Reviews for Best Western Plus Gatineau-Ottawa
Review 1:major renovation hotel building/facade, payed parking at open outside parking lot in front of hotel
Review 2:location, efficiency front desk staff, hotel access and cleanliness room; waitress at breakfast was extremely friendly and efficient, even though she had to serve all customers by herself because colleagues got stuck in snowstorm mess
Review 3:Very noisy rooms. I was hearing everything people next door spoke as if they were in my room. I couldn't even sleep because of all the noises. Horrible hotel. Worst BW I stayed in so far.
Review 4:To be a four stars hotel I'd have expected more. The room was adjacent to another one, separated by just a locked door, and even the slightest and smallest noises could be heard, which is unacceptable. The location is Gatineau, beyond Ottawa's bridges, so if you are on foot you must walk or call a cab up to downtown, no subway entrance nearby. Overall quality of the building is not particularly impressive.
Review 5:It looked clean.
Review 6:The WiFi password did not work. The pool was locked prior to closing time and that would have been fine had the nighttime clerk mentioned anything. Sneaky charge for parking not mentioned in the initial reservation. The hotel was going through renovations, so curb appeal was poor. There was a leak in the room. Will avoid Best Western hotels in the future because of this experience.
Review 7:The location was decent. The daytime desk clerk was nice and efficient.
Review 8:We booked a balcony but all balconies that face the river and under construction and not available. Not told a head of time.
Review 9:The view and location are great.
Review 10:We returned from a days excursion and used the hotel restaurant instead of going out again. Our meal was disappointing. The steak was nicely prepared but the rest of the meal was sadly lacking.
Review 11:I booked a room with a river view. I didn't get it. That was disappointing. It was one of the reasons I booked that hotel. It was not the staffs fault and I was compensated with two nights free parking ($22.00) which does not equate for me. They tried.
Review 12:The walls in the room were paper thin (or lacked insulation) to the point that loud noise and even normal level conversation was shared. The parking facilities for this hotel are totally inadequate. Not enough for guests and even fewer when there are seminar or conference guests. The hotel charges guests for parking, but conference and seminar participants take parking slots for free - hardly satisfactory for anyone checking-in. I paid upon checking-in, but had to park on the street twice in 5 nights because all BW parking stalls were occupied. Elevators are slowest ever. Ice machines and soft drink dispensers are not located conveniently in the hotel - only one location and it's in the basement of the hotel - a long journey from the 9th (top) floor. To operate the TV in the room one needs extreme patience. There are no instructions and the on-scene pop-ups in French are difficult and frustrating. Nothing to do with the TV was intuitive.
Review 13:Extremely close proximity and easy access to the heart of the city of Ottawa and the Parliament buildings are pluses. The staff was great, well informed and helpful in English and French.
Review 14:!st night noise awakened me twice...11:30 and 2am. I reporte4d both and slept little. Being placed in a " communication room " meant both neighbours were sounding like we were all in the same room for example, the fan used for showering at 2am sounded like a muffled fire alarm... NO sleep!
Review 15:Staff were very pleasant but after two such interruptions as noted I believe I should have been offered a quieter room . The location is superb for visiting our Capital Region.
Review 16:Small complaint of noisy guests waiting for or exiting elevator that our room was beside, especially later at night
Review 17:Good location across the river from parliament in Gatineau, very close to the museum of history. Staff were very helpful. Family suite worked really well as there were 3 of us.
Review 18:Service in the restaurant in the morning. One server was amazing, however, the other one was not. The server who was my actual server was not on top of us, however, the server that was great came to top up my coffee (on top of watching her own tables), and took my payment after I was waiting for a long time. As well, my server did not clear any of our dishes.
Review 19:The front desk staff was great and very helpful. I was surprised with an upgrade to my room to have a "river" view, which was fantastic. The toilet in the washroom was broken and did not flush when we first arrived. The front desk was very accommodating at getting it fixed promptly. As well, I was travelling with my daughter who forgot her toothbrush. Although the hotel was out of toothbrushes, the front desk staff pleasantly gave me directions to the closest store to buy one.
Review 20:Staff gave wrong directions to a restaurant; sheet had to be replaced (wasn't clean). But I liked that they comp'd the parking without me having to ask due to the sheet issue.
Review 21:Value for money
Review 22:City-view room was small with small (unwashed) windows. One of two elevators wasn't working and the security swipe card in the working elevator wasn't working.
Review 23:Friendly helpful staff. Good location for city sites and for getting to Gatineau Parkway.
Review 24:Service at breakfast Was slow and the food came cold and the room was way too loud you need to put up something in muffle the sound. Lots if echo!!!
Review 25:Rooms where large and clean
Review 26:The hotel is clearly quite dated, you can hear hallway noise easily in the room, and the ventilation system is also fairly loud. The wifi feels like dial up.
Review 27:The location is nice and quiet, with a 20min walk across the bridge to Ottawa. Staff was quite friendly and helpfull
Review 28:We were not impressed by the parking lot and the charges. Another thing is that the hotel added my email address on their mailing list for future mail subscription. I unscribed it twice already, and still got one more email to confirming my subscription with, which i never consent to.
Review 29:We definitely liked the location, staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 30:I use to work in the hotel business and I understand the important a of a credit card. What I don't understand is how you can turn someone away that has the cash for deposit and room stay. In my hotel we never did! We had to drive all the way back home because of this hotel denying my prepaid credit card and my cash.
Review 31:They charge 11$ for parking and there is no security in their parking, meaning they claim being not responsible for theft. Bed was too soft for me, I felt like sitting while lying down on my back. Pillows are really soft too with no neck support. Would not recommand for people with back problems. Pillows were made of feathers, so I woke up during the night with allergies. Would not recommand for people with allergies to dust or mites. Toilet was clogged when we arrived but at least they sent someone to unclog it right away. No breakfast included.
Review 32:We got a low rate for the room. Staff was polite and gave us a room even if we checked in early. Wifi. Tv was a nice wide screen Tv with a lot of channels. Nice view from top floor.
Review 33:The location is not well planned with a severe lack of parking. We had to park at least a block away in the midst of work trucks. The coffee in the room should not be offered. It's aweful. And it is in poor taste to not include a continental breakfast. Other guests were complaining about this as well.
Review 34:The room was sufficient and cozy
Review 35:During checkout we received a bill from restaurant which was not ours at all and took awhile to get it clarified. Also elevators are very slow and hallways are very narrow. Beds could have been more comfortable and I don't know why lots of hotels use old throw pillows and sheets to dress up the room should just have clean sheets and a comforter that gets changed every checkout. Only received 2 towels in room while four of us were staying in it
Review 36:Location was good and room had fridge staff was good
Review 37:well the room that they gave us was verry small and the only parking was a block away and the sidewalk to get to the hotel was very narrow. in the ad it had showed a view of the parliment buildings from the room. We did not get that view that was advertised
Review 38:the staff were great very friendly and accomidating
Review 39:The room was damp and odourous. The bedding was nasty, I questioned whether it was even changed. Wish I could've opened a window. Old building and rooms. Won't stay there again.
Review 40:Wish it had free breakfast and free parking.
Review 41:The location of the hotel was awesome. Staff was friendly and very helpful. So close to all the attractions. Walking distance to Parliament Hill, Sparks Street, Bytown Market, and was right at the biking trail we explored.
Review 42:River view room was promised in the booking, but was not provided. The bathroom sink was almost completely clogged up, barely draining.
Review 43:Great staff, excellent service.
Review 44:Food portions were very small compared to the cost. I had breakfast at another hotel because they had better portion sizes
Review 45:Overall staff were friendly. It would have been nice to have breakfast included especially for kids.
Review 46:I'v been many times at this location for business in Ottawa. Usuallyfor 5 - 7 days in a row. Now I may change where I will stay because ofthe following: - The so called "river view" room does NOT make sense if the room is located at a lower floor than 5th floor. - The room cleaning service should not knock at the BATHROOM door before 10 AM ! - The 2 queen size bed room is very small for 2 adults and a child. The bathroom supplies were not refilled. - The breakfast is expensive in a restaurant style now, no more buffet. I had to wait 30 minutes for an omlet. Way too long.
Review 47:Location
Review 48:Rooms would have been better if the bathrooms and beds were bigger. Also there was not enough shampoo and conditioner in the rooms.
Review 49:Location, cleanliness, quality of food, and the pool!
Review 50:Paid for a river view and were put on second floor where we could not see the river and our window view was minimal due to part of the building being in the way.
Review 51:Loved location and staff were very friendly.
Review 52:No breakfast like in all the others Best Western Hotels. The hotel is old, the maintenance is poor, the pool in very bad condition, no jacuzzi. It's not a "plus" hotel.
Review 53:The location of the hotel.
Review 54:Hotel needs some updating. The balcony doors needed to be cleaned.
Review 55:The location, view and staff were all excellent. Beds were very comfy and everything that we needed or requested was quickly provided.
Review 56:all staff were courteous, helpful and professional. The room clean and the bed was the best we had in a hotel. Our 8 years old appreciated the attention and the welcoming gifts.
Review 57:My room was 626 however it was the wrong room, the staff at the front desk gave the same key to other guests. We were frighten to find someone else trying to get into what we thought was our room. There is more, if you really care to know.
Review 58:Pool and location.
Review 59:Il y a eu des erreurs le samedi et le dimanche sur la commande des déjeuners et le service etait très long (1 heure pour déjeuner). Bruyant, on entend les conversations de corridor.
Review 60:La proximité avec Ottawa.
Review 61:there was no access to our balcony... But we booked last minute and were happy to have gotten a room at all.
Review 62:Booked our room at 1am in a field at a rock festival in montebello QC! Checked in at 3 am to a very polite and helpful front desk. The room was nice and clean with all expected amenities. The bed and bedding were exceptionally comfortable. Their was a late checkout option (nescesity), and friendly polite staff to check us out when we wer good and ready to leave.
Review 63:Nothing Disappointed!
Review 64:The view across the river to Ottawa at night is sublimely romantic! Quite frankly this is your average / normal hotel, but it's location is 10/10...seriously. I wanted to stay at The Fairmont at Ottawa, but liked the view better from The Best Western at Gatineau! Bridge access to downtown Ottawa was easy and the "Hop On-Hop Off" Bus picks you up, just across the road. The Front Desk staff were all terrific and extremely helpful. Definitely book a room with a balcony, to really enjoy sitting back with a drink soaking up the city vista/ the rowers on the lake in the evening etc!
Review 65:Hotel needs a major upgrade as rooms were probably last renovated in the early 90s. Layout of room was terrible - not one piece of furniture faced the TV, bathroom door skims toilet so you have to walk in sideways, gigantic closets unusable because there are no sleeves or poles, etc. Facilities were lacking.
Review 66:Prime location to visit Ottawa. About a 15 minute walk to Parliament. Staff was very kind and helpful.
Review 67:The windows were not to open, so air only through the fan which made the room a bit smelly. Elevators very slow. The room had a connection door to the next room, which caused to hear everything through very well.
Review 68:The room was quite big and the bed very comfortable. Enough place to store things if you stay for a longer period of time as i did. Big flat screen.
Review 69:Good location for Ottawa, just a short walk across Alexandra bridge and probably better value than staying in the centre. Good rooms, especially those with the view across the river, worth the small additional cost. Bike friendly, a locked room just off the lobby for storage. Some restaurants etc close by in Gatineau.
Review 70:Right up street from history museum. Children's museum is awesome. Bridge is beautiful. Park is nice, especially for biking. Getting to downtown Ottawa is five minutes of driving past landmarks. Hotel is nice, not fancy but very comfortable. Staff great, restaurant good.
Review 71:the room and elevator is a little bit crowded.
Review 72:the location is very good, walking distance to parliament Hill and byward market. along Ottawa river, the park is very beautiful with tulips.
Review 73:Minor smell in hallway from carpet?
Review 74:proximity to Ottawa, for a fit person who doesn't mind a 15 min. Walk. Clean, comfortable with corner store nearby. Great view.
Review 75:The fridge in the room was noisy so I had a difficult time falling asleep. The rooms were a bit expensive for what you got. Really $150.00 a room and you still need to pay additional for parking!
Review 76:We stayed one night and for that it was ok, the staff was fabulous.
Review 77:The heat in my room didn't work. Told the staff at the front desk, and had to ask again to get something done. Finally it was fixed. Water in shower also on the cool side
Review 78:Beautiful location.. short walk across the bridge to Ottawa and attractions. Not a lot of places to eat though
Review 79:Hotel is tired. Hallways and rooms very old and cramped. Not sure what the "plus" includes, but overall, barely a 3 star.
Review 80:location, walking distance to the museum of history.
Review 81:Had no Hot water first morning not the way I like to start my day.
Review 82:Every staff member talked to was very friendly and helpful, from my booking to my departure.a
Review 83:- 8 minutes for hot water to reach sink/shower in my 8th floor room - ice machine and vending machines in basement not each floor meaning a 5-8 minute trip to get ice or snacks - no ATM or banking machine in hotelcc
Review 84:- great view of city from room - staff excellent - rest-bar ok - food ok
Review 85:Breakfast was terrible - Eggs, bacon, sausages and pancakes were all over cooked or burnt. No buffet during the week, ala carte expensive. Never ate there again was better to go to McDonalds.
Review 86:Location and front desk staff friendly. Housekeeping was not.
Review 87:Any quibbles pale really compare to the very high perceived quality of this reasonably priced hotel, but we would appreciate an information sheet on how to best operate the heating/cooling, the TV remote and TV (channel indications on a card)
Review 88:Very friendly and concerned staff. For a mid range Best Western hotel the quality to price ratio is very high and we greatly appreciated the independent kitchen and its very good variety of equipment and supplies. We were next to the elevator, but absolutely no noise whatsoever. Everything in the room was spotless and in fine condition, including cleaned TV remote and other hand service devices
Review 89:The hotel is across from Jacques Cartier park which is where the Snowflake Kingdom part of Winterlude is held. It was also a short walk to the Museum of History/Childrens Museum. It was nice to not have to use our car that day. The hotel is dated, but is very clean with newer beds and TV. The pool was also great for the kids, though it is open every night until 9pm even though their website says it closes earlier.
Review 90:Parking facilities were poor. The parking lot needed to be plowed and they charged for parking which I think should be included in the hotel stay.
Review 91:The bed and the view
Review 92:First thing I noticed was that the rooms are outdated and the carpet is depressing. I had bad experience with room service, I tried to call the restaurant to order dinner for the kids, the staff at the restaurant asked me to come down make my order and make a payment and the food will be delivered to my room, as you requested I had it down made my order and made my payment however the wrong order was delivered to the room.
Review 93:The location of the hotel is excellent. the reception staff was excellent. I like the fact that the hotel is close to the children's museum.
Review 94:The hotel as a whole really needs some updating and I found the hallways to be really tight. I was also disappointed in the level of costumer service at the front desk. We asked for information regarding skating on the canal and received a reply of "I don't know".
Review 95:I liked the proximity of the hotel to all of the attractions and the bed was comfortable.
Review 96:Beds are too soft :) At -25 outside the lobby is freezing. The pool is not well designed and organized - poor water circulation, no change rooms, no whirl-pool.
Review 97:Location and river view are the best! Soundproof rooms, despite of very tight corridors it is quiet inside. Rooms are clean, everything works, adequate air temperature controls. Fair restaurant.
Review 98:Loud other guests with poor supervision, running in hall after midnight. If ever book there again would ask if any teenage groups also booked at same time.
Review 99:- Room was sooooo not what we paid for. Very disappointed! We paid for a king bed with city view, our room was so small we seriously could not even move around!- Staff was very unorganized!!! We had requested a rollaway bed (cot) in our room...when we checked in they didn't have any. Took us over an hour to check in. Nobody knew what they were doing. VERY pricy Did not like having to pay the extra $10 a day parking. Room was already pricy, should have included EVERYTHING. Wifi was iffy...would work one minute but not the next Room attendances did not clean our room.
Review 100:Bed was comfortableBreakfast was good Location was good (convenient as to why we were there)
Review 101:Coffee machine was disgusting!! We ran the room machine for hot water and what came out was black an chunky!
Review 102:Staff was excellent. Breakfast was delicious. Rooms were decently clean.
Review 103:Ce questionnaire et autres documents devraient tous être bilingues au Québec
Review 104:The price is good for what YOU get, restaurant through a bit expensuve, the staff was very kind..
Review 105:No hot water Broken fridge-spoiled food Dirty pool Bed bugs-in one room Noisy hockey team kids at 1am (got relocated to bed bug room)
Review 106:Excellent customer service Location Fridge in room Excellent complaint resolution Prompt action on bed bug situation(exterminators)
Review 107:Lacking a restaurant since there's none close to the hotel.
Review 108:The staff and service staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and nice. The wi-fi was a plus, would recommend this hotel!!
Review 109:The hotel feels like a 2-star, dark corridors, clunky elevator, scruffy carpets... outdated. And it claims to be a 'Best Western Plus' ? Instead of doing all that advertising on TV, Best Western should upgrade the hotels first.
Review 110:the bed, amazing.
Review 111:Dining room only open for b'fast. B'fast buffet mediocre for the price.
Review 112:Convenient to both Gatineau and Ottawa. Comfortable bed and nice sized room. Friendly, bi-lingual staff.
Review 113:The restaurant was closed in the evening. Since there are not many restaurants where to walk in the area, particularly in bad weather, I had to order pizza and eat it in the room.
Review 114:The location near where I had business to do, the staff very helpful, the hotel in general, the comfort, the room, the view from the room.
Review 115:1: the bedding is too narrow for the wide bed and deep mattress, it doesn't even come all the way down to be tucked under. 2: there was a high-pitched noise coming from the fridge's motor, I think; very unpleasant 3: I really don't like the coffee whitener. You can do better than that, at that price! 4: breakfast is far too expensive. 5: the prices of the rooms were too high for what the hotel offers.
Review 116:Excellent and helpful staff.
Review 117:The only thing I did not like was the parking lot. It had a very large and sharp drop to get out and if you have a low car, drive extremely slow or you may hit.
Review 118:Arrived late. Waited to check in as only person working was occupied on phone. Parking lot out front full, relegated to dark partly lit dingy alternate lot and still had to pay. Breakfast additional fee not complimentary.
Review 119:Room was okay. King bed.
Review 120:Plastic instead of glass cups. Dirty windows.
Review 121:Breakfast is available onsite. Salt water pool. Comfortable bed. View of Ottawa. Less expensive parking compared to Ottawa. Late check out was available.
Review 122:Location of the hotel is perfect. Great view of Ottawa while at the same time allowing walking distance from the city bustle. Friendly helpful staff, making all feel welcome.
Review 123:1 of our 2 rooms was much smaller for the same price. View was of a parking lot. Plumbing is quite noisy. We needed one of the rooms cleaned up before 1pm and housekeeper promised "to do it next". We went out for a walk to accommodate this, yet when we came back an hour+ later it was still not done. The pool was not available as staff had not shown up, so a disappointment for the children with us.
Review 124:Hotel was very well located to the Museum where we attended a wedding reception. Had 2 adjoining rooms and staff were able to accommodate an added night on one of these rooms with only a weeks notice during a very busy time. This hotel is easily accessible to riverfront parks and bridges to downtown Ottawa. Beds were very comfortable
Review 125:Great position - just over the river and a short walk to all the tourist spots. Good value breakfast and on-site parking. Very helpful and polite staff.
Review 126:Had a balcony with patio doors Windows with both features were Filthy - notified front desk - staff Came and cleaned patio door - However, I cleaned balcony myself. Rooms overall showing their age.. At most hotels we gave stayed at Continental breakfast is provide free of charge with coffee machines running all day. Small fruit baskets are available in lobby with fresh fruit. At your hotel we had to pay for two coffees in the morning at $2.50 each.. Little things go a long way ... Since your hotel does not provide anything extra I would not book there again .. You have to remember that there is a lot of competition out there!
Review 127:Beds were nice and clean Towels white and fluffy
Review 128:Parking need to pay for $10 per night. Should be free for parking
Review 129:River view . Walking distance to Parlianmrny hill, Musuems, park and trails. Great experience
Review 130:Although they have their own parking, it was not free and it was not mention.
Review 131:Well located in Old Hull, a short walk from museums, restaurants, the freeway and bike paths. The room although small for two, fairly comfortable.
Review 132:Windows did not open: no fresh air Stuffy No continental breakfast available Need more parking
Review 133:Very close to the Byward Market Really nice area with the Museum of Civilisation close by. Comfortable beds Pool Quiet
Review 134:Wifi was a little hit & miss.breakfast a bit pricey for quality but quite a few options.
Review 135:We booked last minute & enjoyed our stay. Pool was a nice temp. & nice as salt water. Breakfast was okay. Staff was friendly & positive.
Review 136:It took quite a while for the hot water to flow in our room.
Review 137:Room was available before the predicted check in time of 4:00pm. This suited our schedule. Thank you
Review 138:We have traveled across Canada and never had to pay parking fees for staying at the hotel it is disappointing.
Review 139:We liked the location and the view and the staff were good.
