Reviews for Ashlea House B&B
Review 1:The breakfast was excellent and we met some great folks from all over North America. The owners were friendly and very helpful at recommending places to eat and things to see.
Review 2:We are farmers & loved staying at a Farm B & B. Esp. appreciated the tip about the Townhouse Pub. What a special evening....ending our celebration of our 53rd Wedding Anniv. Nova Scotia is about the BEST country we have visited....for scenery, hospitality, weather, special attn!! we are recommending it to ALL our friends!!
Review 3:Great breakfast of blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, and other stuff. You won't go hungry. Can't say enough good about this place. Nothing to complain about. The only thing worth even mentioning is that the pillows were not to the liking of myself or wife, but we realise that pillows and beds are a very personal choice and impossible to have a good fit for everybody. I can't and won't say that's a negative about this place. Gotta love the dogs, Schooner and Jib.
Review 4:Location, elegance, breakfast, new puppy available on request, view from widow's watch, very gracious hosts. Hot day but cool room with ceiling fan, didn't even need air conditioner in the room. Exceptional stay.
Review 5:Great breakfast, helpful recommendations about where to eat - including on the way to Halifax airport (Edible Matters on the 213 about 20 mins from Halifax airport). Plus the resident dogs were great!
Review 6:Our very large room (great) was on the 3rd floor. Too many steps.
Review 7:The most fabulous, friendly, and helpful hosts! Exceptional homemade breakfast. Beautiful Victorian home painted a berry color with a really beautiful front garden.
Review 8:The Ashlea home is a beautiful historical home, the home has wonderful decor, the hosts Lynn and John are great hosts with adorable pets, and delightful breakfast.
Review 9:When our front door key didn't work returning to our room before 9 pm, the owner seemed upset that we rang the doorbell for assistance. A very strange encounter, but all was well in the end.
Review 10:Nice location just a couple of blocks from the main strip of restaurants and shops, connected by a walking path. Breakfast was good, served family style, and owner John regaled us with stories at breakfast, suggested things to do and places to eat, and was friendly and gracious throughout.
Review 11:Bathroom small; hot/cold water hard to control in shower; bath towels a bit skimpy.
Review 12:Beautiful home; well-decorated in Victorian theme; personable and interesting hosts who made each guest feel welcomed and important; tremendous food.
Review 13:Bed was not very comfortable.
Review 14:Friendly staff who gave us a lot of great information about the area. Delicious breakfasts prepared by people who love to cook.
Review 15:The innkeepers were lovely, very helpful and hospitable. They went above and beyond with helping us plan our activities, and the breakfast was more like dinner, so many dishes, everything delicious! The bonus, the other guests were delightful as well.
Review 16:Only issue was the water temperature in the shower very difficult to regulate. Also the TV's in the room and common room could be updated.
Review 17:Our hosts were very engaging, informative and had some great stories to share. Breakfast was first rate, delicious and plenty of it.
Review 18:Perfect location and the owners/innkeepers went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. Very knowledgeable about the town and very sharing with their info.
Review 19:Ashlea House is an outstanding inn - John and Lyn were friendly, fun, and knowledgeable. The breakfast was amazing - homemade and delicious! The Victorian home is beautifully furnished, but not the least bit stuffy - comfortable and elegant. One of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in.
Review 20:Nothing
Review 21:We stayed for just one night. Very comfortable and lovely room. Quick walk into town. Fantastic breakfast. Wish we had time to stay another day and relax in the gazebo or on the porch. Great value. Wonderful hosts.
Review 22:Very welcoming and very clean century old home. John and Lynn were the ultimate hosts. Every morning we were treated to a superb breakfast. A 10+ environment!
Review 23:Nothing...
Review 24:The ashlea house is beautiful, our room was so nice and clean, you could eat off the floors, beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious. John and Lynn's stories were awesome. :)
Review 25:Everything was great.
Review 26:The gracious elegant house. Friendly, helpful and considerate hosts. Excellent breakfast. Excellent choice of restaurants nearby. Helpful and practical tips for exploring the area.
Review 27:the shower was difficult to regulate. boiling hot then cold. I did not love having to share the food around a large table.
Review 28:the friendliness of staff and the breakfasts
Review 29:Comfortable accommodation with a great full breakfast. John and Lynn went out of their way to give information on the town - where to eat, places to visit and history of the area.
Review 30:That we couldn't stay longer
Review 31:Such a beautiful Heritage home! Definately the nicest looking on the block. The inn keepers/owners arw outgoing, friendly and exceptionally helpful. I strongly suggest you make this "a must" during your stay in Lunenburg
Review 32:..just the climb upstairs but the staircase was lovely.
Review 33:the architecture and decor, the thoughtful food offered that made us feel at home, the hospitality of the owner...even her dog! Lunnenburg, NS is also a fine city and the local restaurant was excellent.
Review 34:Having to leave.
Review 35:Stunning architecture, breathtaking restoration. We had the "Cottage Room" on the third floor. Dead quiet, very spacious, and beautifully appointed. These folks have spared no expense and it's reflected everywhere. Come for the location, the warmth of the hosts and the comfy beds, but stay for the mind-blowing breakfast. We were bowled over by the grilled vegetable, feta and goat cheese omelettes, blueberry pancakes, sausages, baked beans, baked peaches with cinnamon and raisins, home fries, juice and coffee. Almost had to go back to bed! Walk to any one of a dozen or more restaurants and dozens of shops within 10 minutes of the house. The wharf (where Bluenose II is docked) is about a five minute walk. You will not beat Ashleigh House for comfort, location, warm welcome or the thoroughly outstanding breakfast. They book up fast, so book well ahead of time.
Review 36:A minor point was the lack of any enclosed hanging space for clothes. This was not a problem for a one night stay but could be a missing feature if staying several days.
Review 37:The warm welcome given by owner's. The way they inquired whether we liked dogs before allowing their very nice dog to make contact. The fantastic breakfast which is unlikely to be bettered. We were initially uncertain about having a fixed time communal breakfast but it worked well with the hosts providing just the right amount of input to maintain the conversation interest. The location within easy walking distance of town centre and harbour.
Review 38:There was nothing that we didn't like. Only wish that we had another couple of days to explore the surrounding area more.
Review 39:Lovely room, excellent location, excellent breakfasts (at a big communal table) - a perfect B&B. Very friendly innkeepers who gave us good advice about the area & restaurants. They even carried our big suitcases to the third floor! They gave us a good travel tip for staying at B&B’s in old houses - even though you may have a large suitcase, pack an overnight bag in case you are on the third floor (as we were, including a spiral staircase) so that you don't have to lug a large suitcase up several flights of stairs. Although we weren’t able to follow this advice initially, we did get some collapsible tote bags and followed it for the rest of our trip.
Review 40:John and Lynne were such welcoming and friendly people. They discussed our travel plans, recommended routes and restaurants and were interested in sharing our lives and theirs. They made our holiday experience in Lunenberg special by their warm personalities. They are well suited for a bed and breakfast business. The house is beautiful as well.
Review 41:Can't think of anything I didn't like; except wish we could've stayed longer!
Review 42:Everything exceeded expectations; lived up to reviews and recommendations on website. Great background of town and history of home provided by hosts; attractions they suggested such as the Fisheries Museum were worth the time and money. Rooms very comfortable and clean; linens and mattress of high quality; slept as if I were home in my own bed. Even though the weather wasn't the greatest, felt the trip to see Lunenberg and staying at Ashlea House was well worth it.

Review 77:Beautiful home. Great Innkeepers; warm and friendly. Delicious breakfasts...the best in our fifteen day trip!! Such pride they take. Very helpful, informative, and proud of their home and this quaint town. Felt like coming home and sharing with friends, John and Lynn the Innkeepers.
Review 78:The house was beautiful and charming and in a perfect location! The hosts were friendly, helpful, and so fun to chat with. Breakfast was delightful and one of the best I've had at a B&B. Overall, one of the best B&B experiences I've had.
Review 79:The house was very cold at night. Blankets were a bit thin and there was only 1 spare in the closet. Was end of season - so it's understandable, but bigger blankets as the weather dips would be great.
Review 80:Friendly staff, amazing food, and an incredible home. This place was overbooked- but our host accommodated us by putting us in a nicer room at no extra cost. Will def. be recommending.
Review 81:Nothing!
Review 82:Everything! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, the food was great, and the house is amazingly beautiful and located very conveniently in a quiet area just a short walk from the waterfront and restaurants.
Review 83:Only a very short walkto the old town. Owner gave us some good advice where to go. Tasty breakfast , freshly prepared. Wonderful house, cute dog. What else could I say: Perfect . A lot of space, DVDs, books ... Room was very quiet . Til next time.
Review 84:Leaving!
Review 85:Lynn and John are the perfect hosts. Short walking distance to Old Town Lunenburg and its galleries, restaurants and harbour views. The Inn is beauifully restored Victorian Manor House and our hosts stocked the palour with books on Lunenburg's history and amazing architecture.
Review 86:Everything! The hospitality was great, and breakfast was one of the best we've ever had. The house itself is beautifully restored and decorated.
