Reviews for The Gananoque Inn & Spa

Review 1:this hotel is a motel not hotel and they need some upgrade. there was very low water pressure in the shower, there was a smell of smoke like it was a smocking room before. the staff give my parents a better price per night then BOOKING. Staff did not want to give me the cheaper price after i mentionned it.

Review 2:the location is great but at the time of our visit (November) the city was deserted and there was not much to explore. Breakfast is good.

Review 3:The response from reception during a 9 hour power cut. Everything had shut for the season before the end of October (after the power was restored)

Review 4:Sensational view

Review 5:The staff were OK - could have been friendlier - breakfast room staff could have been more welcoming for sure

Review 6:The location of our room on the water was wonderful

Review 7:Location, location....on the water, walking distance to the thousand island cruises, restaurants, downtown and liquor stores. I had requested no feather pillows and my wishes were met

Review 8:didn't like ground floor room, but i live with that since i had a beautiful view, no complaints.

Review 9:The entire atmosphere very good, staff was there to assist with any questions ask, room walk out to the lake and patio very nice setting!

Review 10:The rooms are a bit dated.

Review 11:Outstanding location on the river's edge with views of the islands from our room. Excellent dinner and breakfast at the Inn's restaurant. Comfortable motel-style accommodation.

Review 12:I could not get the internet from my room but its not the end of the world.

Review 13:the people were friendly, i enjoy the view on the lake from my room and the full coarse breakfast was so good.

Review 14:The experience was very nice but I was disappointed to find out we were not staying in the main lodge but instead in a motel like area out back. Probably would not have stayed here if I'd known that upfront as I wanted the inn experience and not the motel experience. I blame Booking.com for this and not the inn, or at least both should be up front about what you are getting. Pictures misleading in ad from Booking.com

Review 15:As per the notice posted on the wall, the water temperature of the water in the shower fluctuated a lot and it took a long time to warm up - this would be my only complaint.

Review 16:Beautiful facilities, great staff

Review 17:Hair dryer was old and didn't work that well

Review 18:The room was comfortable, the fireplace was excellent view was great. The lady at the front desk was so friendly and made you feel welcome

Review 19:Unfortunately, we went a little too late in the season and the weather was damp, cold and windy. Since it was ugly outside, we went to the casino one night and to the mall in Kingston the next day so it wasn't entirely a wash.

Review 20:Second trip back to Gananoque Inn. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite which was gorgeous. Gas fireplace, jacuzzi tub with heated floor in the bathroom! Big comfy king bed. Breakfast was fantastic in the dining room and we had dinner one night at Jakes right there at the inn which was delicious. Already planning another trip in June 2015!

Review 21:having to check out & drive back to Toronto - wanted to stay & stay & stay.

Review 22:We got end of season rates 50% off. Excellent value, great accommodations Lots of fun.... saw a play & did a little gambling as well - all within a short drive or walk. Suggest this experience for anyone.... will be going back next year.

Review 23:Food was mediocre, particularly for the price. Had dinner Sunday night, pickeral not well prepared and bland...salmon overdone with "mushy" risotto...was told chef has Sunday off...NO EXCUSE!

Review 24:LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! While charming the decor could use a little"sprucing up". Staff/Personnel welcoming. Housekeeping to a good standard. Would we return??? Probably but book room only and eat all meals elsewhere.

Review 25:Our room was not in the main building. We cannot comment on the rooms in the main building. Our room had a disinfectant smell. The 'fireplace' was a hot air blower.

Review 26:The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful.

Review 27:This did not bother us too much, but the waterfront rooms did not form part of the main hotel building and there was a walk up a fairly steep hill to reach the hotel restaurants. They did, however, provide room service which would get round this problem for people with less mobility. They also provided an umbrella, for rainy days.

Review 28:We had a waterfront room which had its own dedicated parking space nearby. We ate in both the bar type restaurant and the more upmarket restaurant and the food was excellent in both. Staff throughout the hotel were all very helpful.

Review 29:Expensive Motel. Dingy and dirty. Outrageously loud a d hundred year olx airconditioner. Cobwebs of dust in the bathroom. Regret my booking Payed the same for Sofitel in Montreal 3 days ago.

Review 30:Restaurant was excellent

Review 31:Parking for shore side rooms difficult to back out of as we have a van. Air conditioner very noisy. No night light in bathroom. Uphill Walk to main entrance of inn very difficult for seniors.

Review 32:Our room was shore side and we liked back and front doors, lawn chairs and table at front and the lovely lawn.

Review 33:The room was very small and the blanket on the bed had holes from burns from cigarettes. Very disappointed in dining facilities. Couldn't eat in dining room and only three choices on menu. House salad very poor. Pub food left a lot to be desired.

Review 34:The grounds are very nice.

Review 35:Rooms smelt of mould and mildew. Surfaces of night tables were dirty and dusty. Wine glasses were dirty with smears of previous guests. Carpets were old and appeared to be dirty. Decor was of the 1980's. The restaurant was faded and windows were fogged need to be replaced. Service was poor, ceiling fans were covered in dirt and dust. Overall the inn requires a thorough cleaning and update. Best bet, go to Kingston receive a better hotel rate and service...then drive to Ganaoque for the boat tours and casino.

Review 36:Location on the St Lawrence river

Review 37:The restaurant dinner choices and food were not as excellent as might be, the noise of people sitting outside their rooms and talking late into the night ... we had a 9 hrs. drive the next morning and needed our rest. There should be a curfew on how late people can socialize outside their rooms.

Review 38:The view of the river, the lovely grounds, the comforable room and bed

Review 39:we were not able to dine at the Watermark Restaurant as we did not have a "reservation" when we arrived there about 6:15. The desk should have told us about this when we check-in at 3:30.

Review 40:excellent location with beautiful water front view.

Review 41:This hotels location is perfect but it is old and needs some update. Price of room way too expensive. Rooms should have mini fridge

Review 42:Staff was friendly and helpful, Food was good except for breakfast home fries which were horrible

Review 43:I was surprised to find that we were assigned a 3rd floor room with no elevator. This is not a small detail for me. If this is a concern make sure you ask about it.

Review 44:The room was nice and comfortable, I booked a room for 4 people so we ended up in the main Inn building. The room had a view of the water and was big and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding, served restaurant style, choose from a few options, something for everyone. Juice and Coffee included. Pretty deck and dock by the water. A pretty little town too.

Review 45:Only minor drawback was ice only available on 1st floor,, we were on 3rd.. A small refrigerator would be a nice touch.

Review 46:We found the staff most pleasant and accommodating. The room was lovely and you can't beat the view. We enjoyed the food at Jakes and would not hesitate to recommend the Inn. It would be our first choice if we return to Gananoque.

Review 47:We did feel a little out of place as we are quite young and most of the other guests were in their old age, and the room smelled a bit musty at first but it was fine once we aired it out

Review 48:The area was really nice, and the location on the waterfront was beautiful. Breakfast was really good.

Review 49:Although the power was out in the whole area, the staff greeted us and put us in a lovely room with a fireplace Breakfast was delicious

Review 50:The room was beautiful and the restaurant was excellent!! Staff was great too!!

Review 51:Fireplace & toilet problems

Review 52:Location, excellent staff & breakfast.

Review 53:Room overlooked the waterfront, so nice views.

Review 54:Great location. Room with seaview and a lot of room. Good restaurant and great breakfast.

Review 69:it was peaceful and quiet and very relaxing after the busy Christmas season.

Review 70:Waiting for check in and out

Review 71:Breakfast and live band Very good

Review 72:Hard to say because everything was good.

Review 73:The Views. The Fireplace. Friendly Staff

Review 74:A quiet pleasant place to relax

Review 75:Great location on the lake. Sunset on the deck was fantastic. The restaurant was an unexpected suprise.

Review 76:Location and comfort.

Review 77:Can't think of anything we didn't like. We will be back.

Review 78:Accomodations, food, service wi th beautiful views.

Review 79:Location of the hôtel, close to every thing, staff and ambiance

Review 80:it is hard to find a dislike everything was above average or better and the view is great so nothing negative to say I have stayed there many times and always enjoyed it there and will be back soon

Review 81:location, clean room big room great breakfast great scenery and landscapes

Review 82:Check in took a bit longer than I would have liked. Only one person at the check in desk and she was on a long call with another customer, but all good. A fridge in my room would have been helpful.

Review 83:Lovely location, nice room, Gann is great! Would go back in a heartbeat.

Review 84:The room needed a good dusting. Staff didn't ask if things were OK when I checked out.

Review 85:Loved the location, on the water. Breakfast was excellent and the service in the restaurant was superb.

Review 86:Reserving a window table in the restaurant challenging. Asked for window table at dinner, none available yet couple arriving 15 min after us got one. Finished breakfast and the reserved table by the window empty the entire time. Confusing.

Review 87:Our room was lovely and had a stunning view of the river. Loved sitting out on the deck.Very friendly front desk staff. Great location. Would go back.

Review 88:Would have been nice to have a small fridge in the waterfront rooms; but ice available for the asking.

Review 89:Lovely room by the water Breakfasts were outstanding

Review 90:Our room was quite noisy in the night between loud voices from guests outside and water flushing etc.

Review 91:nice clean room overlooking the St. Lawrence River

Review 92:...The breakfast was a bit of a let down. Below diner quality which was too bad because it's an amazing spot and we loved the room.

Review 93:The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and well outfitted. And it has the Food chanel. Breakfast was included in the room price but ...

Review 94:I like the ambiance and location of the Inn, not only in the winter but especially during the summer months. It is suitable for the family functions that we attend.

Review 95:I absolutely loved everything. The cottage that was offered to us wasamazing, spacious, much more than we could have asked for. Thereceptionist was full of information. I participated in the Wine TastingDinner which was absolutely delicious and very well done. I would loveto do it again. The location was beautiful.

Review 96:The staff was exceedingly courteous and welcoming, our accommodations were clean and comfortable, and the breakfasts were delicious. Great value for the money!

Review 97:friendly and helpful staff who all served to please; cleanliness of the inn; quaintness, charm and warmth of the place; choice of either fine dining or pub style dining; great food; lovely location down by the water.

Review 98:Weren't told that the room was in an annex - had to go outside to get to hotel for meals. Taps in shower & tub were older and not working that well and the ceiling in the bathroom needed to be repainted. Would have liked to have a fridge in the room - there was plenty of room for it.

Review 99:We had a room with king bed, fireplace and Jacuzzi tub. Although the room was very comfortable it was not in the main part of the inn. Came with a very good breakfast.

Review 100:We were very disappointed to be located in a back corner of the property looking at the roof of the cottage infront. Having chosen a waterfront hotel, with private patio, and a $250/night price-tab we naturally expected to be looking on the water. We were told booking.com does not have access to any of their waterfront rooms, so only book direct with the hotel! Dozens of waterfront rooms were standing empty so it wasn't as if none were available!

Review 101:Although the buildings are old everywhere was airy and tastefully decorated. Food was excellent. Beautiful riverfront location.

Review 102:Breakfast was terrible. The food was cold, over-cooked and greasy.

Review 103:Staff were very accommodating and exceptionally helpful when we needed to look after medication. The room was lovely. Dinner was fantastic, too.

Review 104:No issues

Review 105:Our room was attractively decorated, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom exceptionally clean and of ample size. Staff was very personable and efficient.

Review 106:bugs in the bathroom -- 2 mornings. We reported to staff that they should probably bugspray the heater in the bathroom. Lack of outdoor carpet to wipe our feet on. Very bad coming in the back-parking lot door with dirt and gravel being tracked in. We mentioned this to cleaning staff. The Mennonites in St.Jacobs sell wonderful outdoor mats made from old car tires. We saw them at the market in St.Jacobs. They are inexpensive and would do the job for you. The air conditioner should be replaced. It is old and tired, and does not do the job. In the middle of the night the room cools down ok, but during the day it just refuses to do the job.

Review 107:Wonderful location, the beauty of the water, flowers, delightful setting. Friendly folks, we even met the owner. Not necessary for us to climb stairs, even though we did twice from the building we were in to the dining area.

Review 108:...having to leave!

Review 109:All of the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. As a surprise our room was upgraded and we were so happy to enjoy the Prime Minister's Suite.

Review 110:Wait times at the Restaurant, (and order was not correct so had toreturn food,) wait times at the front desk.

Review 111:Big Rooms, Waterfront, two Queen Beds, Breakfast Included, Reduced Rateon Booking.com

Review 112:Some of the fixtures (e.g TV and air conditioner) were a little antiquated. Window air conditioner was quite noisy.

Review 113:Charming and comfortable old hotel near river and other tourist sights. Restaurant food and service was fantastic.

Review 114:no minifridge in room, no elevator. (might be a problem for seniors with heavy luggage). Shower ran hot and cold (it's an old building.. to be expected). No major problems.. just these small concerns.

Review 115:Spacious room, clean, quiet, relaxing, restaurat was EXCELLENT and breakfast was included with the room. Staff was great. Very good value.

Review 116:Convenient for the 1000 islands. Clean and well maintained.

Review 117:Maybe because we went through you and didn't pay full price, we got a room with a view of a roof.

Review 118:Room comfortable and especially chairs outside- lovely for reading or watching birds,a.peaceful.bteak

Review 119:Was good only that it was during winter so there wasn't much fun

Review 120:The workers are very friendly.

Review 121:Unfortunately raining but beautiful location on river

Review 122:breakfast

Review 123:location

Review 124:Nothing
