Reviews for Blue Mountain Lodge Banff

Review 1:Excelent location, walking distance from all restaurants and shopping area. The staff is super kind and helpful, the house is a nice historical place, the room was a bit small but cozy and very clean.

Review 2:value for price: I understand that New Year's is a peak season, but $860 for 3 nights, when there is no pool, no table in a room, and only breakfast (cheese and ham were a new year treat...) included, very tiny rooms, it really feels way too expensive.

Review 3:friendly staff

Review 4:The building is 102 years old and looks and sounds like it. No sound proofing throughout the house - you can hear everything that happens throughout the house from your room. There are gaps between the room doors and the door frames big enough that you can see through them. Extremely tiny and old bathroom

Review 5:Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Love the atmosphere at the lodge during the day. One minute walk from downtown. A close drive to hot springs and many hikes

Review 6:My room was very small, similar to what we get in Japan. I had heard about it from other people. I also found the price a bit much for the amenities compared to other hotels in Banff.

Review 7:I liked the charm of the building. The hosts were very kind. The location is very convenient. No need to use the car to go to restaurants or to the Banff Centre.

Review 8:NO air conditioning, very cold in room during night time. Slow internet connection.

Review 9:Good location (actually anywhere inside Banff is good since it's a very small town)

Review 10:Room was tiny. Had to climb over husband to get in and out of bed. Husband comment "it was like living in a matchbox"

Review 11:Very friendly staff thanks Matteja

Review 12:great welcome and home made biscuits. Helpful activity suggestions emailed to us prior to leaving England. Room and ensuite were small and no hair dryer but one was lent from reception.

Review 13:Room given at checking was a real joke,10 feet by 8 feet a double room!!!!! This was more like hostel standard.we were given a better room ,but still not much space.will never return

Review 14:Staff were very helpful

Review 15:The room and bathroom were extremely small. Because we were away for a month we had a large case each, but with some movement of the furniture we managed to get both in. The hanging space was very small so we lived out of our cases while we were there. It was a bit like being back at college again with shared facilities, but that was okay.

Review 16:The staff were lovely and helpful, and the breakfasts were good. There is access to a small, shared kitchen, which is good. The lodge is in a really good location, in a quiet street not far from a lovely walk by the river and a very short walk to the main street in Banff.

Review 17:Room was a filled in porch. Bed had approx 10 inches on each side for movement. Shower recess was the smallest I've ever seen, so small you couldn't bend over and wash your feet. Bathroom would have been 1.5 metres x 1.5 metres squared and I'm being generous, this included shower, toilet and vanity. This place is more like a hostel than a lodge. I stayed somewhere else in Banff which was $54.00 cheaper with 4 times as much room and a much better breakfast. This place has tried to squeeze as many people as they can for more money.

Review 18:Location, staff were friendly, breakfast was ok

Review 19:Attic style room with no place to really sit and relax although in Banff should be outside anyhow. Bed was very squeaky so whenever someone moved it made lots of noise. Wifi not working.

Review 20:Quaint and fantastic breakfast and eating area, staff were very pleasant and personable as well.

Review 21:The pillows were a little hard.

Review 22:The room was quirky but certainly roomy. The breakfast was great and the staff was wonderfully helpful. The location couldn't have been better.

Review 23:Room 3 was tiny - not suitable as a double - and very cramped. Stuffy so had to keep window open at night. Noisy til 4 in the morning from people in the street returning from bars. Window wouldn't stay open properly

Review 24:Helpful staff Freshly baked muffins, croissants and cookies

Review 25:Rooms are small and in some need of modernisation.

Review 26:Location excellent, the cookies are a lovely touch. The guest kitchen works really well staff friendly and keen to help.It would have been helpful to know, before a long climb up the back road to sulphur mountain that the cafe at the top was closed!

Review 27:Slow wifi

Review 28:This a cosy little b&b in a great location. The staff are lovely - thanks Mataya for your travel advice. Freshly baked croissants each morning for breakfast were amazing.

Review 29:Room and bathroom a bit cramped. Wifi intermittent.

Review 30:Staff member we dealt with was exceptional. Have lots of ideas and advice on what to do in area. Very friendly. Freshly baked cookies and breakfast was very good. Good location close to town centre, but quite and easy parking. Lovely building.

Review 31:Extremely helpful young lady who checked us in and provided information on the things we wanted to see and do. Breakfast was great. Location excellent

Review 32:the rooms are quite small.

Review 33:The hosts of Blue Mountain Lodge were super nice. The location is perfect. 2minute walk to downtown banff but calm at night. We had the beaver lodge and had to lay down the stuffed beaver because it scared us;) but that was no problem. the breakfast ist good plus extra cookies in the afternoon - Awesome!

Review 34:The Blue Moutain Lodge was the worst place we have ever stayed. It deserves 1 star at the most. The room was shoddy and we wonder how it passed a building inspection. The construction was obviously done by an amateur, evident in unfinished moldings, holes in the wall and a floor that was lower at one end of the room. The toilet seat was dangerously loose, there was the smell of sewage coming out of shower drain, the bathroom vanity, made of fiberboard was falling apart with fiberglass wall insulation exposed under the sink. It was obvious that this room was an add-on from a porch leaving 8" between the bed and wall on one side and 14" on the other which was also the side of the bed used for entry into the bathroom. There were windows on the outside that were walled up on the inside with cheap panelling. There was black mold along the top of the controls in the very small (30"x30") fiberglass shower. The bed was hard and towels were thread bare and frayed. House rules require that you remove your shoes at entry. And all this "charm" was $210 Canadian per night. See attached photos demonstrating our objections.

Review 35:The lodge had wifi and was nonsmoking. The location was good but there was not enough parking.

Review 36:My room was up 2 flights of stairs, so carrying bags was more than I expected, but I managed.

Review 37:Cozy, relaxed lodging conveniently located in downtown Banff, Alberta, Canada. The owners are very accommodating.

Review 38:The hotel is a house that has been converted to accomodate guests. This makes the rooms somewhat cramped.

Review 39:The staff was super friendly and very helpful in helping us plan our trips and finding good sights to see.

Review 40:Rooms were very small although we were just there to sleep so it didn't detract from our expereiene.

Review 41:The location was great. Right downtown-close to restaurants and things to do. Staff was great - giving us good advice as to what we should see while on Banff.

Review 42:Room was on 3rd floor in the attic with a queen bed and twin bed stuffed in. Shower was so small my husband couldn't turn around once in it! Don't know if B&B's typically make beds, but ours weren't made the 2nd day. No matter how he lay on the queen bed,my husband's toes hit the slant in the ceiling. On the twin bed, I couldn't raise my head raise my head too much because of the slant. Very dissatisfied!

Review 43:Location.

Review 44:The guest kitchen was not too well fit for cooking, especially if multiple guests decide to cook, and it is only allowed up to 8 o'clock.

Review 45:The location was very nice. Loved that the croissants and cookies and muffins and such for breakfast were made in the lodge, waking up with the smell of something baking in the oven.

Review 46:The beds were very stiff and hard to maintain comfort. Some fans in the room for the warmer days would help too.

Review 47:Just about everything. Banff is a great place and the location is perfectly located. Hiking with Pascal was great as well.

Review 48:The room was even smaller than I expected and the bathroom was the smallest ever seen. However, As long as you are not a large person the size is manageable.

Review 49:Location

Review 50:The whole experience, was made so special by our hosts Emily, Radkar and Pascal. I highly recommend staying here!! The atmosphere, the great breakfast and afternoon tea, the help we were given in planning out activities was fantastic!

Review 51:Noise from adjacent rooms - esp from the top room - and noise from the street if window open. No power point in bathroom. No blackout blind in room so too bright in the mornings. Plus wifi not reliable.

Review 52:Excellent location. Excellent staff - esp Aussie Jess - with endless advice for places to visit. The general ambience - feels like a home from home rather than an impersonal hotel. The friendliness here more than makes up for the basic rooms.

Review 53:Weather was very warm in June with no air-conditioning. Breakfast was a bit disappointibg. Room was too small for the large furniture. two people could not pass each other between the bed and the dresser.

Review 54:Location is great. off the main street but easy walking distance into town. Lady who worked there and seemed to do almost e erything was very pleasant and knowledgable. Gi rl

Review 55:We were asked for payment almost before the word 'hello' was spoken and so not a great welcome. All b&bs that we stayed in had free tea and coffee so that is really nothing special. The breakfast was anything but the 'deluxe' advertised. The milk was watery ultra skimmed non-tastIng liquid, the coffee was cold, the croissants were like frisbees, and the fruit selection was an apple or a banana. 'Continental' breakfast should include cheese and cold meat but neither of these was to be seen. The room was minuscule with the bed being a single bed base with a double bed mattress thrown on top. There was a bizarre stuffed animal with sticks around it gathering dust at the base of the bed under the eaves of the roof. The sink drain in the bathroom smelt. I have visited about 45 countries and stayed in a wide range of accommodations and the Blue Mountain Lodge takes the top slot for the worst value for money I have ever encountered.

Review 56:The location was pretty much the only thing to like

Review 57:Very cramped room and 'tiny' en-suite shower room. Double bed on accessible from one side or bottom. Extra single bed cramps any available space. Rooms are only serviced once every few days. More like a hostel than a guest house B&B. Room rate reflected the fact that it was the Banff Marathon that weekend. Property needs some investment to bring it up to a satisfactory standard.

Review 58:Friendly staff. Breakfast. Away from the hustle of town.

Review 59:VERY VERY POOR Wi-Fi. Changing towels ans making up the bed each day.

Review 60:Make bed every day. Replace Towels everyday since the towels cannot be dried. More hangers in the Lilliput bathroom. Good Wi-Fi

Review 61:One of our bedrooms was very small ; the price for this room was not appropriate to its size.

Review 62:Banff is a beautiful location. The lodge is in a quiet area. Staff is vert helpful and friendly.

Review 63:Poor wifi on the top up stairs rooms very slow if it connected at all

Review 64:Great location central for visiting most of Banff. Staff were all very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area.

Review 65:Wood sticking out from bed frame and cramped space.

Review 66:Pascal was very nice and full of great sightseeing suggestions. The breakfast was a good traditional continental breakfast though it gets quite crowded in the small room and it was hard to keep the one coffee pot full. We had the back so called "miners bunk house" which is cleverly decorated in old West motifs but is quite cramped. The bed has wood sticking out the side frame, easy to catch a shin. No desk to plan your day but we used the stacked bunk beds for that. It lacks power outlets so you have to be clever in routing power from behind the TV on the wall. Great location in town!

Review 67:I was travelling with my brother so we needed a room with 2 beds. We are quite short people but found it hard to stand upright. We did the standard rooms and they all looked lovely.

Review 68:Everyone was very friendly and there was a happy atmosphere. A kitchen was available for guests use with free tea and coffee and even homemade cookies in the afternoon.

Review 69:As in town centre it can be noisy when windows left open. House is from around 1910 so room and bathroom are very compact and fixtures and fittings are quite dated. May not appeal to all. Room is clean and comfortable though.

Review 70:Staff were incredibly helpful. Fresh cookies in afternoon, fresh croissants and muffins as part of breakfast selection. Very close to Banff centre so many shops and restaurants a short walk away. Convenient parking outside. Guest kitchen available for use.

Review 71:Tips from owner on 'what to do in Banff in one day' were bang on, and made for a very enjoyable (and full!) day. Kudos to Pascal - he recommended the Slush Cup which was a highlight of the day, and even lent a novelty hat for the occasion!

Review 72:At this B&B you can find everything you can think about a great stay. Location, facilities and staff are great and ensure you the best experience in Banff.

Review 73:Had to climb three floors up to room. Room like a cubby hole. Could only stand upright in parts of room. Quilt on bed unclean. Found bug in bathroom. Only room for one chair, second person had to sit on bed. Blinds too small for windows so sun very bright early in morning.

Review 74:Breakfast

Review 75:The flip side of great location is too close to Centre of town. Noisy at night if you keep windows open. Get a room not facing street.

Review 76:Location, easy access. Clean. Great host who gave us a 15 min run-down on what to do.

Review 77:Room was extremely small. Breakfast was ok but limited as was the lounge area.

Review 78:Location re centre of Banff and proximity to ski bus stop. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 79:They have a very busy kitchen that should only be used for light food prep not complete meals as it needs to be shared by a number of the guests.

Review 80:Host was very hospitable and the breakfast was great in the AM.

Review 81:Its more a upmarket hostel than hotel. Double bed wasnt very comfy, and absolutely tiny room and bathroom. Downstairs kitchen needs repair (only 2/4 elements worked). You can get queen beds in rooms 3 times the size at other local hotels for cheaper. As much as we loved the staff, we wont stay again.

Review 82:Seriously the nicest staff of any hotel/hostel ive stayed at in years. Excellent continental breakfasts (OMG croissants)

Review 83:Bed on wheels - shifted away from wall

Review 84:Breakfast choice and quality - esp croissants Warm and clean. Convenient location. Available off road parking. Heritage building. Friendly & knowledgeable staff Well stocked kitchen for guests

Review 85:The rooms are quite small and the shower is very small. But none if this bothered me, just thought I'd note it for other peoples sake.

Review 86:This is a very quaint little place to stay in the best location possible. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It's very homely and lovely

Review 87:The bathroom smelled strongly of urine and we had to rig the bathroom door closed so it would stop making our room smell. The plumbing was not the greatest.

Review 88:Great location, cozy atmosphere

Review 89:Bathroom to small. Second bed in room made it extremely tight. If removed, the room would have been way more comfortable. Small table and chairs like Room 2 looked very appealing and quaint.

Review 90:Friendly staff. Comfortable room.

Review 91:asked for a blanket as our room was so cold, german lady refused and told us to turn on the portable heater. she was very rude.

Review 92:Girl from Slovenia was so nice and helpful. Breakfast was nice

Review 93:Nothing at all.

Review 94:The age and history of the building was appealing. It felt warm and welcoming from the minute we were greeted at the front door. The staff were wonderful, full of information and hospitality and yet we were given privacy to relax.

Review 95:The walls are a bit thin! Easy to be disturbed by occasionally noisy guest(s)

Review 96:Very friendly & hospitable hosts. Went the extra mile to help with information and local knowledge. The lodge owner is also a very experienced guide and organised a very challenging but ultimately very rewarding day trekking in the high mountains.

Review 97:Our room #10 could have used a comfy chair instead of the extra bed. Size of the room was adequate, but just.

Review 98:Excellent location, walk to downtown in 2 blocks. Only blue roof in town so from the Sandon summit of you can find your house. Pascal is a host with many adventure tales.

Review 99:The only negative thing I would say is that wifi in the room area didnt work very well, so to get better signal I used the living area.

Review 100:The manager was extremely helpful is giving recommendations as to what to do and where to go on both days I spent there. He even gave me a map and highlighted the trails. He also shared his experiences and interesting stories about the town. The location of the property was great, just two blocks away from the center of Banff Ave and two blocks from the river. Breakfast was just right: boiled eggs, homemade croissants and muffins, and coffee. They also had cookies in the evening. The room was not very spacious, but it was clean and cozy.

Review 101:The attic room I had the pleasure of staying in was breath taking in it's decor and view of the Rockies. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud! The hosts were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Fresh from their own oven croissants for breakfast and biscuits for snack were delicious. The stay here was the highlight of my entire stay in Canada.

Review 102:The rustic theme of the cowboy room was a little bit rougher condition than we expected.

Review 103:The staff was courteous and the breakfast environment was friendly. The location of blue mountain lodge was a perfect setting for what we wanted to do in Banff.

Review 104:Tiny room, no headboard so bed pushes away from wall when trying to sit up in bed to read. No seating other than the bed. ...Bathroom difficult to manoeuvre d/t clever placement of toilet and sink. No entrance from parking area; you have to enter from public sidewalk up one stair thru main door. Very awkward with luggage or parcels because door is extremely heavy and requires use of a key. Parking area too small No shoes in house rule

Review 105:Location excellent, close to main shopping area. Staff friendly and helpful. Bathroom cleverly designed to fit a tiny space but.....see right...>

Review 106:The rooms are small and basic with poor bathrooms. Access to the beds and bathrooms was poor and light switches and power outlets were not conveniently placed and/or didn't work. We also had to change rooms, as did other guests.

Review 107:This place has friendly staff and a good breakfast. It's within walking distance of the city centre and restaurants. The staff are knowledgable about the local area.

Review 108:Rooms very small, poorly laid out. Booked 4 nights and had to change rooms 3 times. Poor seating in rooms. Breakfast very poor.

Review 109:Excellent location. Good car parking

Review 110:Shower knob panel indicated opposite; when shower knob turned to hot, cold water was coming... And I couldn't take a shower one night since I wasn't told that.

Review 111:Staff is good and friendly. Good breakfast

Review 112:The bed in the cowboy bunk house was on a bit of an unstable base. That apart there was nothing to dislike especially if you accept that this B and B dates back to 1900's and is full of character rather than top class modern facilities.

Review 113:The location was fantastic. Just along the street from town yet not a busy thoroughfare . Mt Rundle can be viewed just behind the stunning blue building. We stayed in the cowboy annexe which was quirky but had a cosy feel, like stepping back in time! Our friends had a room in the main building which was comfortable. We liked the idea of a communal kitchen and sitting area with tea and coffee always available. Staff were very helpful and friendly and breakfast was a great continental buffet. Would recommend this place even if a little pricey, you are buying into the heritage!

Review 114:friendly and helpful staff with many helpful insider tips, perfect location in the heart of Banff, possibility to book personalised tours, cosy rooms and community kitchen that feel more like coming to a warm home than to an artificial standard-room.

Review 115:Thin walls - could hear people in next room parking when trying to sleep - at the price thought would be quieter The top floor room had unusual ceiling line and at the base of the bed there was a stuffed beaver and branches simulating a beaver den - weird - it watched you while you slept!

Review 116:Location Parking

Review 117:Although clean the facilities need updating & the double bed we had one night was very small. If you don't mind noise at night it's fine.otherwise you might find it difficult to sleep.

Review 118:Proximity to the town.Welcoming , helpful staff. Great homemade cookies!!I If your stay is more than overnight ,Pascal has excellent in depth local knowledge. We had to change rooms & staff were most obliging even providing us with complementary champagne!!

Review 119:There's no wifi's signal in room, but when you come out to the stairs you will get it, and you can use it in room now. It's really strange!

Review 120:We arrived at the hotel very late in the evening, well pass the check-in time. The host placed a welcome note on the front door, and put the key in the mail box for us. We were pleasantly surprised by the gesture. The breakfast is good, muffin, crossiant are all made by host himself! the host is very nice and you can get a lot of information about scene from him!

Review 121:Great staff, cute and clean place. Stayed in the beaver lodge room - love their interior! The girls in the reception were so friendly. Highly recommended!

Review 122:The room was not good. No aircon so trying to sleep with windows open was a real problem due to noise. En suite was too small and quite shabby

Review 123:Great location for town Staff were great Breakfast was good

Review 124:This is the second time I've filled out this survey! Lots of noise on the street late at night and into the early morning.

Review 125:Had to fix your own breakfast, food was basic. Felt for the price we should have gotten a hot cooked breakfast.

Review 126:It was a neat old house, very clean, lots of character. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. Room was small, but enjoyed my private bath and view of Rundle Mountain

Review 127:Room was a little small.

Review 128:Excellent location and friendly staff.

Review 129:Great owners. They care that you have a great trip.

Review 130:The best part of my experience was the friendly staff and amazing breakfast service.

Review 131:The fresh baked pastries and cookies served for breakfast and during the afternoon were a wonderful touch.

Review 132:Nothing

Review 133:The decoration of RCMP room is really impressive and cute! Feel like back to an old time.

Review 134:Everything was perfect.

Review 135:The room is on the roof it not a room at all. Only 3 feet height in the entire room except at the entering place and the wash room area
