Reviews for Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Review 1:Our shower didn't drain so we had to turn off water half way through each shower so it could drain a little. **** There was no salt or sand on steps**** I would suggest salting or sanding all the steps and platforms going up to the rooms. We took a terrible fall and came out with goose eggs and massive bruises. I had a bruise the size of a baseball that was purple black and blue. And jarred my hip. My hubby hurt his elbow and lower back. So to cover your own butts and save yourselves from someone who may not take falling as graciously as we did, you may want to take care of the steps and landings/platforms. :)

Review 2:The rooms are lovely, the staff are some of the friendliest I have met, the fireplace is wonderful, outdoor hot tub is awesome and the food was OUTSTANDING! Thank you!!

Review 3:Great location, cosy fireplace to sit in front of at night. It was on the mountain, but you can't snow board/ski on this mountain, you still need to travel to do that. The food was amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a short drive from the city centre, far enough away to feel like you are away from it all but close enough to get something from the shops if you need to.

Review 4:For the price and the type of accommodation we would have appreciated a mini fridge and possibly a microwave. Also considering the distance to the pool and poor access to the change rooms robes in the room would have been a nice option.

Review 5:Enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and the outdoor hot tub. The room service was great and the meal from the Sleeping Buffalo restaurant was exceptional.

Review 6:The area around the hot tub needed cleaning (still dead leaves in December) The steps from inside to the hot tub need raised rubber mats, you feet get muddy and sandy when going between the change room and the hot tub. More kindling in the rooms for the fire as well as non-feather pillows and another extra blanket (there was 1 blanket on a chair by the fireplace, but not big enough for 2 people). Service in the dining room was nice. Kitchen staff were painfully slow. It took 40 minutes - after I ordered to tell me they were out of an ingredient for my breakfast. I picked again. When the food finally came - after another 35 minutes, my husbands food was hard and dry from obviously sitting under a heat lamp waiting for mine. Breakfast in all took 2.5 hrs. They bought my breakfast. The lamp that illuminates their outdoor sign aimed direclty into our room. It was really bright to sleep through.

Review 7:Stone Fireplaces in Suites Comfortable bed and blankets Front Desk is 24hr Beautiful and cozy checkin area and restaraunt

Review 8:The room was exceptional we especially loved the fireplace that added a nice cabin feel. We found the staff to be incredibly friendly and very helpful. Above and Beyond!

Review 9:No really bad experiences. There was ice on the path just outside our room and my wife took a tumble but to be expected in a mountain locale. Overall we rate this resort highly

Review 10:Best overall was the food In the Sleeping Buffalo restaurant. Both food and service were very good. Having a fire-place in the room was also very nice. A fine view from the view also helped. we had a thoroughly good weekend here.

Review 11:The parking was a nightmare, we had to park so far from our room and carry our one and a half year old across all the ice. And the wine list for the room, nothing was reasonably priced.

Review 12:The wood burning fireplace was lovely! I liked how they didn't charge you for wood like a lot of other hotels do.

Review 13:Upping the quality of some of the details, like the wine glasses, would complete the experience.

Review 14:We were in a Lodge room and loved the fireplace in the bedroom. So cozy. Really created a nice atmosphere.

Review 15:The personal fireplace in each room is a nice touch and kept us cozy in the cold weather. The hotel staff even started the fire for us when we ran out of kindling.

Review 16:Young couple having a romantic night. Location was gorgeous. Had a spectacular view of the mountains from our room. Room itself was fantastic, peaked ceilings, wood burning fire (that we got much use out of), and those glorious heated floors in the bathroom!! Staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Review 17:The hot tub was not warm and the steam room what not in working conditions.

Review 18:Loved the area that the lodge is located. Fireplace in rooms is very comforting

Review 19:Not exactly a bad experience but the servers in the dining room were a little slow. Perhaps they were new?

Review 20:The room was very nice. Enjoyed the fireplace. Excellent meal.

Review 21:The adjoining walls were extremely thin and we could hear our neighbour's clearly. More sound proofing is needed. The hot tub was very dirty and we only went in for 5 min because of this and did not go in the second night.

Review 22:We stayed at this hotel for our anniversary and wanted to be somewhere close to town but still in the moutains. We also wanted a rustic room and enjoyed the use of the fireplace. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The front house staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 23:noisy, thin walls, and/or loud guests in adjoining room wood does not burn well in fireplace stayed two nights and did not get a housecleaning visit as they came just as I returned to my room

Review 24:location, staff, fireplace in room, dining room food is delicious

Review 25:The room was spacious and clean. Beds comfortable. We particularly loved the wood-burning fireplace and cozy chairs set up by the hearth. The claw-foot tub and in floor heating in the bathroom were also great additions.

Review 26:Both the reception staff and anyone we bumped into were friendly and helpful. The room was spectacular and the views, breathtaking. Will definitely be back!!!

Review 27:The bathroom was very dirty and out dated. The tub was yellow all around the tiles and the sink had yellow rings all around it. I tried to spend as least time as possible in there. The flue also didn't work in the fireplace so once you lit it up the room was very smokey

Review 28:The friendly staff. Free parking and wifi was excellent. They had a free shuttle that would pick us up and drop us off I'm downtown whenever we wanted and take us back to the room as well. There was tons of firewood always available for the fire place.

Review 29:difficult to find empty outlets to charge out devices. the rooms were overheated - hard to turn the heat down so we could enjoy a fire

Review 30:fireplaces and rockymountain charm. food was delicious

Review 31:For how much the full hot breakfast buffet cost, it could have been a bit better.

Review 32:Everything was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. The huge soaker tub in the bathroom was amazing. Added bonus was the shuttle driver. Since the hotel is around a 30 minute walk from downtown Banff, it was nice to have someone drive us to and from. He knew where everything was and was able to give great advice on shops and various restaurants.

Review 33:We had to move the rooms and pay a bit extra due to noise from pipes inside the wall in our originally booked older unit.

Review 34:Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The newer units are better and larger, more light than the older ones. More upgrades too.

Review 35:We've been going to this lovely place for probably 7 or 8 years now and this is the first time we have been disappointed both with the cleanliness of the room and the room we were put in. I think the most disappointing part of this is that we booked at least 6 weeks in advance with the request of where we would like to stay so this should not have been a problem

Review 36:Wood burning fire place with all the wood you need and friendly staff will come and start it for you if necessary. The ambience of the room is rustic but romantic, it's always been our favourite place to stay as long as we are in the right section!

Review 37:We were given already burnt logs, no kindling, little paper, and only two matches to start a fire.....horrible. Had to call for robes, which should have been in the room, so that we could go down to the hot tub.

Review 38:The fact that it is private with a fireplace and balcony.

Review 39:Check in could have been more professional. As I sat waiting, the girl was looking at us, looking at thier coworkers at the bar and then looking back at us. Not sure if they were mocking, but it felt like it. However, everyone else was very nice.

Review 40:People were very nice and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 41:Everything else. Food took over 90 min and had to be redone, room was dirty in spots, wait staff was inexplicably horrible

Review 42:The room was rustic I guess

Review 43:The rooms where very dark with low wattage light bulbs everywhere ..ambiance nice but reading or doing makeup not so much! Breakfast buffet definitely not worth the money, lacking in variety, quantity and warmth!

Review 44:The fire place in our room was wonderful! The staff where amazingly friendly and helpful.

Review 45:Reception said we had a great view - not the case and while being immersed in the trees adds to the sense of being in the wild, taking a couple down to allow sunlight to penetrate would be great too.

Review 46:Great comfortable room, open fireplace and a big tub. Made a great change from standard hotel rooms. Even had a patio to sit out on!

Review 47:Each suite had a wood burning fireplace and the smell from the unit was really, really strong. No bar fridge in the room was also a let down at this price point.

Review 48:Location was nice, and room was tidy.

Review 49:Staff were neutral at best. The room was outdated and very tired. They should pay their photographer a bonus! Restaurant food was very average. Overall, a four star price for a two star experience.

Review 50:Location was fine.

Review 51:I have never thought that anywhere I have stayed was as disappointing as this was. I do not mind paying a premium for special places but this was not worth half of the price. I was sick that we had to end a lovely trip here.

Review 52:That it was over in 2 days. I made a very expensive mistake. The pictures on the internet were lovely. The room was not

Review 53:We were at the end of the property and the Internet signal was not very strong. Make it clear in the directions that the best approach is via Tunnel Mtn Rd, not Tunnel Mtn Drive.

Review 54:Restaurant was very good and the staff were extremely accommodating. The rooms were very nice along with a comfortable bed.

Review 55:N/a

Review 56:Absolutely loved this lodge, out of the hustle and bustle of town but free shuttle/taxi available and a bus stop right across the road. Not a bad word to say! Would revisit in a heartbeat.

Review 57:Not enough electrical plug outlets. We are deaf so it was so hard on us to drive over to the office frequently for some requests. No communication access. Poor network for my pager.

Review 58:Big, nice room.

Review 59:Too much chlorine in the Hot Tub. This faded all of our swim suits quite badly.

Review 60:Layout of facility was nice Post and Beam construction was very nice. Very large bathroom Wood burning fireplace in unit

Review 61:Nice location, off the main path in Banff, easy to get to. Rustic cabin atmosphere. We had a fireplace in our room, and it was a very cozy, inviting place to stay.

Review 62:We didn't like the fact, have a small child with us, we were suited in a room that was close to the Wapiti (?) room while there was a wedding recption taking place. That's fine that there are weddings in the place,it is rather nice there however if you have a family with or without children you might want to ask if being situated close to the noisey reception is OK??? The parking is less than to be desired. We had to park on the street quite a ways from our room, when we came back from going into town, which was brought to the manager's attention as well as the WiFi connection was rather low in comparison to other hotels we have stayed at in the past. The manager was professional no doubt and seemed generally concerned about our visit. He let me know that he can understand about the noisey wedding receptioned and appologized on their behalf. The parking was limited and I reinstated what my wife had complained about to the rude person who answered the phone the hight before, if a group of people rent a room and they all drive and they all park in front of the building it leaves no room for other guests, in turn the Manager stated that they do ask everyone to be curtious when parking their vehicle but they cannot control everyone. He also mentioned that parking in general in Banff (anywhere in the area) is limited as it is. I can understand that, I think anyone can. Just keep in mind that when you book a room remember about the parking and other functions that may be going on during your relaxing stay.

Review 63:We liked the room, the view, the area and the trails were close by. Some of the staff was friendly and 1 person was slightly rude to my wife. :(

Review 64:Dangerously poor exterior lighting in building....poor fireplace ventilation in room...no housekeeping service during day there...poor bar service.

Review 65:Beautiful lobby...Caitlyn, who tried to right our wrongs.

Review 66:Door had disturbing large scratches. Breakfast buffet service was poor and overpriced. Parking very limited.

Review 67:Most things were fine. Comfy, clean accommodation up on tunnel mountain.

Review 68:The carpet in our room was stained. There was no bar size refrigerator in our room and the only lounge chairs in the room (that were located in front of the fireplace) were unfortunately extremely uncomfortable.

Review 69:The location was wonderful. The rooms have a rustic feel and the open fire was a perfect way to end the day and unwind with a glass of wine. Overall our 2 night stay was pleasant.

Review 70:Pathetic lighting (bulb broken and otherwise gloomy); noisy heating; cleaners left their carts directly in guest parking spots; breakfast not included with $300+ room! Motel 6 quality for Beverly Hilton price.

Review 71:Fireplace

Review 72:The hot tub was a little too hot in my opinion. It was a little overwhelming.

Review 73:The staff was great, Tony took good care of us. The room service was great, and the food was excellent.

Review 74:Hot tub wasn't working, rooms were below average , ie stained carpet, bathroom not good, but they did move one party to a different room, housekeeping staff were yelling out to each in the morning asking each other if they were still drunk, unfriendly staff at front desk, room service missed a meal took 40min to get it, phone did not work in rooms, didn't receive what they advertised

Review 75:it is close enough to town but not in downtown so the feel of being a little aside. The views in our room were AMAZING. the beds were extra comfy! and the feel of the hotel as a log cabin. The main lodge is TO DIE FOR!

Review 76:Staff in the restaurant were great, but not great at the main desk. They could use some more mature staff members to balance out all of the transient staff

Review 77:Loved the cabin atmosphere. Slept beautifully every night! Very nice and quiet. Loved the breakfasts.

Review 78:Steam room out of use Changing room to hot tub not in use So at time of our stay poor facilities

Review 79:Comfortable room Breakfast good Lovely location

Review 80:Room was old and very unclean. We even found a pair of dirty socks on the floor that must have been left by the previsous guests. Unworthy of $300.00 + a night

Review 81:Beautiful place to visit. Rooms were very comfortable except the temperature was hot with no air conditioning. Staff we're amazing and the view was alright, we faced the forest and didn't see much!

Review 82:the plumbing in the adjacent room was very noisy - presumably a downside of cabins compared to staying elsewhere in the Rockies I thought the hotel was expensive, but for Banff itself it was reasonable.

Review 83:the hotel was a little outside the main town area of Banff (so ideally need a car) but in a scenic setting - we saw a bear drivng up to it! rooms were in cabins with plenty of parking. Went to the bar for a meal and had an extremely friendly waiter who was lovely

Review 84:No AC which would have been ok except the room had no cross ventilation. A ceiling fan would probably helped but they did not have one

Review 85:Beautiful scenic view out our door of the mountains

Review 86:Restaurant was great food, but very pricey. Rooms have no A/C, frig. or microwave.

Review 87:Our room felt like we were in a cabin in the woods by ourselves. Loved it! We hope to come back here & stay a week, hopefully in cooler weather, although we were comfortable after opening doors & windows before we went to bed.

Review 88:Hot tub wasn't working when we left so wanted one last dip....was really hot....hot....so couldn't go in..... was about it...all staff outstanding.....

Review 89:fireplace in the room....fell asleep within 1/2 hour of lighting it....wow soooooo relaxing....

Review 90:The bed was uncomfortable and the room was very hot in comparison to the outside temperature

Review 91:I liked the location and the character and charm of the hotel

Review 92:The rooms weren't at all what I paid for, the room was not vacuumed well, and scuffs all over the wall, very unappetizing to look at, it also needs to be dusted. I mentioned it to the staff, they said they will write it down and they were sorry.

Review 93:The bed and duvet was the best part,

Review 94:Way to expensive for what you get , hot tub was not working and no parking , take my advice rent something cheaper , this hotel screams a room is just a room

Review 95:Our breakfast in the dining room was very disappointing. We opted to order ala carte instead of the buffet. Our food did not come for at least 45 min. and when it did, several items were cold. The server did not offer to reheat our food. The dining room supervisor did come over when we were done with our meals and offered juice. The price of the beverages was taken off of our bill. Apparently the kitchen is only prepared to cook for the buffet. Guess we really threw them a curve by ordering off the menu. Perhaps that should not be an option. All other parts of our stay were wonderful...too bad this was the last experience we had before checking out.

Review 96:Nicely decorated rooms and beautiful grounds.

Review 97:I liked the location, but I thought the cost of the room was more than what it would have cost anywhere else for that same type of property. It was nice but way expensive.

Review 98:There were not enough chairs and we didnt have any cushions for our bench on the balcony. There was no fridge in the room and the ice machine was broken so we had to buy ice to fill our bathtub to keep our drinks cool. For the price we paid per night we expected a view.

Review 99:The rooms were a good size. We loved how big the bathroom was and the fireplace. The balcony was great for relaxing with drinks after a long day of sightseeing. The facilities were well maintained and the hottub was huge! Overall it was a great, relaxing and beautiful stay.

Review 100:Everything except the waitress at the patio. She was slow and didnt seem to know anything about the resort. We ended up getting engaged in banff and consittering getting married at this resort.

Review 101:Wifi spotty. Facilities either substandard or not working at all. Uninformed staff as they sent us to the wrong place. Outside deck smokers in a non-smoking lodge

Review 102:Staff were friendly

Review 103:Room was not ready for check in at 4 pm. Hot tub was not working. WiFi was poor and kept cutting out. No continental breakfast. Unacceptable when your paying 300 a night for a room.

Review 104:Location was quiet as it was away from the downtown

Review 105:It just looks a little dated. I remember only 10 years ago it was beautiful. Needs a face lift for sure. It's time.

Review 106:Loved the location and being outside of Banff is less noise.

Review 107:Noise from main road. Could hear tenants upstairs moving around. View from room was pine trees and main road. No mountains.

Review 108:Friendly staff. Good restaurant.

Review 109:We enjoyed everything about our stay. The rooms were fantastic with individual balconies and a wood burning fireplace in our room. The staff were amazing and you could tell that they really cared about us and making sure we enjoyed our stay.

Review 110:Rooms a little small for the price you pay. Wood provided for cabins burns too quickly and makes popping sounds and dissapointed that there was no fridge in the room!

Review 111:Log fire, comfortable cabin, lovely balcony and view. restaurant for dinner was a little expensive but amazing food. Try the elk platter, Buffalo duo & apple salad.

Review 112:Was hoping to have a view of the mountains but mainly stared at the other buildings from the balcony.

Review 113:The food was delicious and the outdoor hot tub was great.

Review 114:Room was too warm, no air conditioning. Found out there was a fan in the room when we checked out, a little late by then. It was on the top shelf in the cupboard. I'm short. Couldn't see it. Sigh.

Review 115:Sadly, apart from the dining room lodge, the units are quite old and in need of updating. The wash basin in the bathroom had a 10- inch crack running through it. The bathroom was poorly laid out and definitely the worst for wear overall. The toilet was old and stained. The door could only partially open up due to the overhead shower rail protruding out. The bathroom lighting was very outdated and not conducive to women putting on makeup. Finally, safety-wise, accessing the unit up a steep flight of stairs carrying heavy suitcases was tricky, and made even more risky insofar as there was no handrail to hold on to, only a very thick round log which one couldn't possibly grip.

Review 116:Great location at the mountain. Dining room food, service and charm lovely.

Review 117:Too dark in rooms No cross ventilation Breakfast service poor on patio Very overpriced No mini bar, frig

Review 118:Trees and mountain views Evening bartender excellent

Review 119:We were booked for a room with a balcony but given one on the main floor. We had someone above us on the second night. We heard them every time they walked across the floor as the floors creaked. The price we were quoted was not the price we had to pay due to extra surcharges ect. Most places give a total price upon booking. I spoke to staff at the main desk but not resolved. I would not recommend this place to anyone as we have stayed at other places all over North America and never ran into extra charges as we did at this motel, entering Banff Park and at the car rental places. Travellers beware of extra charges as you travel in this part of Alberta

Review 120:The only thing that I wasn't happy about was how loud the pipes were. When the guests above me were using water it was incredibly loud. I know this sounds whinny but it was truly quite shocking how loud it was especially at 11:30 at night when they decided to take long showers.

Review 121:Great setting, close to trails and to the downtown area of Banff. Restaurant was amazing!

Review 122:The rooms are pretty small, at least the premiere rooms are. Smaller than I expected. Also we didn't eat at the restaurant. Felt it was a bit pricy.

Review 123:We liked the fireplace! We used it twice. And upgrading to the premiere room with the claw foot tub was a nice addition.

Review 124:The view is undeniably the best part. We woke up every morning and had coffee on the balcony that looked out onto the mountains! You can't get better than that.

Review 125:Location is decent but have to drive into downtown. Very clean. Nice to have a real fireplace on a cool evening (thought I now remember that wood fires take constant tending).

Review 126:Hot tub could have been hotter!

Review 127:The location was great. Relaxing atmosphere. Restaurant was good, hot tub was salt water which is a huge plus in my books!

Review 128:The debris on the deck from fallen pine needles and chairs on outdoor balcony were plastic. Too far to go for ice. Should have ice machine in upper valley view.

Review 129:Fireplace, large bathroom with tub and shower, felt like we were in a cabin rather than a hotel

Review 130:Paper thin walls, could here neighbours conversation. The heater made loud noises, kept us awake. The bed was a double, not a queen. Bathtub was gross, stained. Parking was terrible, had to find a new stall when ever we came back to room. Fire place set off smoke alarm both nights. When complained, was advised to open window more

Review 131:The customer service was above and beyond
