Reviews for Fairmont Château Lake Louise
Review 1:Overcharging for food, drinks, parking and wifi. Very strange that large dogs were welcome in a five star hotel - not within the hotel guidelines of under 20lbs!!
Review 2:Beautiful location on the lake with very impressive ice sculptures. Disappointed to be charged for parking and wifi as free in all other locations around the village
Review 3:None
Review 4:The staff was second to none. They anticipated any need we may have had and were very professional. Of course the location is stunning, but without the fabulous service it would have been just a great view. It was so much more that we extended our stay.
Review 5:very busy period of the year, holidays seasons. A lot of people in the corridor of the rooms. Noise sometimes, children screaming or running.
Review 6:special mention to the exceptional staff, very friendly and sincere.
Review 7:Rooms were small and the resort is on the pricier end however the views and location make it a memorable experience.
Review 8:The staff accommodated special requests, the location is unbelievable and awesome. There were a variety of winter activities that one could choose from. This resort is perfect for a 3-4 day stay to experience Winter in Banff.
Review 9:There is no quiet place to sit and read, no fireplace. And the food is OK, not great like everythingelse, our Christmas dinner came out luke warm.
Review 10:Stunning views, amazing staff, lots of things to do offered
Review 11:We were there to celebrate our honeymoon and the hotel supervisor was nice and welcome. Got a room updated and welcome drink voucher from hotel too. Room has awesome view and spacious. Although the fairview restaurant not open on the night we stayed, you still have other choice for your dinner.
Review 12:It is a little expensive (I was there off season so only a little) but the lake view room, the helpful staff, the great facilities more than make up for it. I took advantage of free shuttle to the ski area, it was very convenient going up/down every 30 min. There are free guided tours avaible for the local area. In short, you are not only paying for the room, you are paying for the whole experience.
Review 13:On our honeymoon, we were treated to a fabulous last night of our trip at the Fairmont. Staff was very friendly and accomodating and we had the best time!
Review 14:Fairview restaurant scores a 3/10 and Lakeview restaurant 6/10, you should expect better quality food for a hotel this standard. Also people seem to be in a rush to get you out of the restaurant asap, minutes between courses and the bill on the table seconds after finishing your meal.
Review 15:Location; just great!
Review 16:If I had to be painfully picky, the bathroom was very small, the extractor fan didn't work and some meal prices were a bit over the top. But absolutely minor issues in an overwhelmingly positive experience. Blissful. I plan to return soon.
Review 17:Pretty much everything. Unbeatable location with breathtaking views. The staff were the friendliest, warmest, most competent and accommodating I have ever experienced at any hotel .... I wouldn't rate any of them less than 10 out of 10. The room was incredibly comfortable, especially the bed. Excellent wifi coverage throughout.
Review 18:It's disappointing therefore that you feel more like an exhibit than a guest. The hotel is almost fully open to non residents and there is a steady stream of coachloads of visitors, happily snapping away everywhere. For example, we were trying to enjoy lunch by the restaurant window through which there was a constant barrage of photographs of the lake being taken, with no respect of our privacy. Our stay was to be one of the highlights of our Canadian visit, but turned out to be a frustrating and not what we expected of a hotel in this price range.
Review 19:The Fairmont is as you would expect a great hotel with a stunning location, great service and wonderful food.
Review 20:1.ridiculous charge of $15 per day for internet 2.charging for parking these are both free in every other hotel we stay in. When you pay the prices this hotel charges these services should be included.
Review 21:Great location. iconic hotel Great view from our room
Review 22:No free WIFI and 33$ parking per day? it's should be kidding if hotel claims 4 star service, no need to mention room fee so expensive.
Review 23:Very professional and friendly staff and great facility/location, it's necessary to have hot bathtub(free bath salt) after hiking.
Review 24:Disappointing that we had to pay daily for internet. Given that it was free in all other hotels on my holiday, seems a shame that the most expensive hotel charged for Internet.
Review 25:Excellent location and room quality
Review 26:Being expected to fill in forms, in order to use wi-fi Being expected to pay for car parking when already paying as their guest
Review 27:The natural surroundings - stunning scenery The history & character of the building Good boutiques Walks etc
Review 28:Pretentious, overrated. The social areas are beautiful, but the room is a shoebox. Minuscule. You pay so much for something that you can barely walk inside. And be prepared for buses and more buses of tourists arriving in large groups and most of them have no respect for other guests, and are simply very loud. To walk through the foyer with walls of excursion tourists idolizing the fact that they are in the Chateau Lake Louise. Restaurants are expensive and food is tasteless. Went to the Brasserie and had a steak - no taste at all. Besides, 2 people are expected to tip 18% for the privilege - deducted from your bill. Horrible experience.
Review 29:I loved the location and the views. Gorgeous Lake views.
Review 30:The only think that we didn't like was having to pay for the wifi! (Which we didn't!) you pay a lot of money to stay in these nice big hotels, you would have thought that it would have been included. All smaller place always include free wifi!!
Review 31:The view was breathtaking!
Review 32:I had trouble controlling the temperature in the room. I couldn't get it to cool down for in the night.
Review 33:Staff was amazing! Very helpful and super friendly. No one took advantage of us having no experience staying in a nice hotel before.
Review 34:This was not necessarily a bad experience but upon our arrival we did not expect to have to make a reservation in the lounge to enjoy a drink at one of the empty tables. We were declined a table and instead had to sit at the bar.
Review 35:The hotel was beautiful and the view from our room fabulous. The restaurants were excellent.
Review 36:Lake View room was special, Postcard pictures from window. To add to our experience it snowed overnight to give us an early white Xmas.Spectacular. Booking was messed up and we had to wait whilst they sorted with booking.com but they threw in free parking due to the wait without and hesitation.
Review 37:Considering the room rates standards are average or even less. Pool area was depressing. While breakfast was decent and fresh the lounge menu did not seem to be freshly prepared, they were not even able to make minor changes.. Premises are huge but interior had hustle bustle of a railway station.
Review 38:Could not be a better location than this at lake Louise.
Review 39:Everything! Absolutely fabulous place, better than it looks on the website (if that is possible)! Couldn't fault the staff, food, and obviously location. Blessed with good weather during our stay too!
Review 40:was a little disappointed with cleanliness... for a 5* hotel, was dirty in certain parts of the hotel
Review 41:loved watching the snow fall over the lake from my bedroom
Review 42:the Swiss restaurant was a little overpriced for the meal we received , just an average restaurant meal nothing spectacular
Review 43:Everything location the view, upgraded to a better room, staff 24 /7 cafe
Review 44:The moveable shower hose was set very high on the wall and a big stream of water ran down from the back of the rose when the shower was running. When I took the hose down from the wall to spray water over my lower body, a jet of cold water shot out over my head and shoulders from where the rose had been resting up high. The shower door would not stay shut and kept opening in to the shower, letting in cold air. A plastic seal down the edge of the panel adjacent to the door had come away. I mentioned the shower problems to the room attendant and he made a note of it.
Review 45:I booked online with booking.com a room described as having a Lake and glacier view. I assumed I would be in the big main building you see when you look from the lake towards the hotel. While the room did have a lake and glacier view, it was in the older part of the hotel and I think this should have been pointed out.
Review 46:wifi expensive. For overseas travellers a national parks pass must be acquired even if just staying in a town as ALL areas are in the park system.
Review 47:Superb olde world charm- & that was in a refurbished suite with air con. Superb position of course & great access to lake & environs. Stay at least 2 days to explore & avoid the day tripper hoardes.
Review 48:Got an upgrade as we walked in the door. Great start to a great day bar staff were very friendly and everybody addressed me by name. Which made it feel likr you are appreciated
Review 49:Small problem with cleanliness in the shower in the room, which was sorted out
Review 50:Location was beautiful. Walks excellent around lake and up to the mountains. Hotel was lovely, expensive, but lovely. View from Room was super. Meals very good.
Review 51:Absolutely not cheap, but staying there was something I had always wanted to do. Maybe will dig deep and do it again someday.
Review 52:It's the Chateau Lake Louise! We had a suite and it was fabulous. Everything is wonderful inside and loved the shops. But all that pales in comparison when you go outside. Even though there during forest fire smoke, the views and walks are breathtaking!
Review 53:The staff was excellent, from Reception to Housekeeping, to Food Service and Preparation. All aspects of our stay were outstanding. I was especially touched when the staff reached out to my wife to make her birthday special. Thank you to the entire Fairmont team.
Review 54:It is pricey. $650 Canadian a night. We thought it was worth it, but others might not.
Review 55:We upgraded to a Fairmont Gold room. Got a corner room with a view of the mountains and the lake. Concierge service on the floor was great, room was great, and the hotel is wonderful. Restaurants and bar are great. Fitness center is okay, though not state of the art.
Review 56:One young blond waitress was very unfriendly at the Lakeview Lounge.
Review 57:Location was beautiful. Food and room were excellent. Staff were really helpful and polite.
Review 58:booked under king bed with lake view, but assigned us to two queen beds at the secondary building (not in the main building). The view was not as good as introduced on the website as the main building blocking the view of the lake! I requested to change the room but refused as the rooms with lake view were fully booked.
Review 59:Paying extra for internet! No air conditioning and it was hot, but kinda liked the peace and quiet of no machine whirring.
Review 60:Incredible location! We had a small suite and it was fantastic! We are mid range travellers who celebrated a special occasion here - it was so worth it!
Review 61:Workers had been working on the wiring in the hallway, and they left a big mess on the hallway floor. They had been working on an opening in the ceiling. The mess stayed that way for the entire morning before we checked out.
Review 62:The views were spectacular! We enjoyed how well the landscaping was kept. The front desk employees were very welcoming.
Review 63:They charge for WiFi approx $25 per day which I find pathetic considering the room costs $600 plus!!!!
Review 64:Setting is stunning. Restaurants Walliser Stube and The Fairview were both excellent
Review 65:Unfortunately because the hotel is a heritage property very few room have air conditioning for hot days, however the staff did offer a portable a/c unit if needed.
Review 66:Beautiful location with plenty of activities.very spacious room that was beautifully decorated. Having a lake view room is a must when visiting Lake Louise. Staff at the hotel are extremely helpful.
Review 67:Room rates are expensive and staff were not the most helpful at times. No bookings in some restaurants not helpful. Had to wait for a table for just a cocktail while tables remained uncleared.
Review 68:The view from the room of course! Decent and well priced food and wine. Nice pool.
Review 69:Didn't like paying over $400 per room per night and not even getting internet or air conditioning. (or chocolates on my pillow as our other friends did). our room was small with only one bedside table and no arm chair.
Review 70:The location next to Lake Louise and terrific hiking, is wonderful.
Review 71:Hot tub, it was very basic but clean and hot.
Review 72:Location is amazing!!! The hotel is great! Make reservations for dinner early. If you have been looking at the photos forever - go!
Review 73:We booked a lake view room, but actually we ca only see 2/3 of the lake because the only window is small and does not faces the lake straightly. Try to avoid these kind of a few rooms when you check in.
Review 74:Location is awesome! Excellent food and service in all restaurants.
Review 75:The fact that Internet usage wasn't included in the room rate; we stayed in fantastic hotels on our Rockies trip which were a third of the price and all included fast wifi.
Review 76:Stunning location, quality, comfort and style of room, fantastic staff.
Review 77:The hotel is a magnet for non-guest tourists with selfie sticks and iPhones, so it is not serene but rather crowded and frenetic, which was what we came to Banff to get away from.
Review 78:The view and surroundings were magnificent and awe-inspiring.
Review 79:overrun with bus loads of tour groups and visitors. A high end restaurant with no dress code. Friday dinner with people in shorts and jeans. Disappointing
Review 80:Great food
Review 81:There is nowhere to sit if you are staying and want to relax. Cant get away from the crowds. There should be an area outside where guests can sit and relax. Need to be able to open the windows
Review 82:Views were fantastic
Review 83:Rooms as booked were not available, we had to have a lower standard room and one of our party had to sleep on the floor. A disaster all round.
Review 84:The view
Review 85:Front desk clerk didn't give us information we needed for wifi, portable a/c, etc. The manager, however, apologized and made it right. Restaurant Service was very good everywhere except the French restaurant. Much of the hotel is old, though well maintained. So, in summer you may need to ask for the portable air conditioning to stay comfortable in your room. The bed was not very comfortable.
Review 86:Beautiful location and facility; many restaurants and onsite shopping. Good hikes around the lake. Lake canoeing, especially the guided canoe trip; the Tea House; tasty food; live singer in the lounge was excellent.
Review 87:The hotel is too expensive for what they offer. for 700 canadian dollars per night you expect a premium service. This is not the case: the room was long and narrow, very uncomfortable, and looking back to a parking lot. The furniture, old. The bathroom small and uncomfortable. The hotel is huge and gives you the feeling of being in a bus station. There is no place to stay, except for some chairs in the lobby. We tried the french restaurant in the hotel and the food was expensive and old fashioned.
Review 88:Lake Louise is a very pretty place!
Review 89:Bus load after bus load of tourists being dropped off throughout the day made the experience more like a crowded theme park than a luxury hotel. After paying $799 per night you expect somewhat of an exclusive experience yet you were forced to share it with thousands of tourist who were not guests at the hotel. One morning I had to wait in line for 20 minutes just to get a coffee at the deli. Also you have to compete with these 1000's of tourists for all of the hotel activities. Guest room were small and not set up in such a way that you could enjoy room service to escape the tourists. Terrible terrible experience
Review 90:Beautiful location at the edge of Lake Louise however I felt like I was ripped off of what should have been an awesome experience. I will never stay here again.
Review 91:Low standrad for a high level hotel. No free wifi provided in whole hotel and you can not get LTE signal inside room.
Review 92:Perfect location, one and only. Good services for you needs.
Review 93:The hotel itself is not as polished as we expected, especially for the price. Food was very expensive and not particularly great. Also, the deli was chaotic in the morning.
Review 94:The location is outstanding, and the view from our room (685) was absolutely stunning. There are lots of trails to walk and plenty of other activities. Staff is polite and helpful.
Review 95:everything was perfect. Thank you for an enjoyable, relaxing stay.
Review 96:The hotel setting was so beautiful. Our room facing the lake with the snow capped mountains in the background were breath taking.
Review 97:The hotel decor, friendly staff and incredible views of the mountains and Lake Louise! We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunrise Canoe outing and the horseback riding. The Poppy buffet breakfast was outstanding!
Review 98:For $800 a night I was expecting a lot more omph and special treatment. The hotel is busy lobby is always crowded not with guests but with tourists as this is the only standing structure on Lake Louise. It felt like a 3-4 star check in experience. Also this was my first time with Fairmont and the service doesnt even compare with Shangrila, Four Seasons or the same higher bracket luxury chains.
Review 99:The location.
Review 100:Excessive resort fees, parking fees and taxes. Amounted to more than $100 per night. Bus loads of tourists arriving to "check the place out", not actual hotel guests. Hotel concierge messed up our dinner reservations (booked 2 places same night).
Review 101:Resort food was excellent and premises were immaculate. Many places in hotel to shop and several restaurants.
Review 102:We were in room 243. We did have air-conditioning but it was VERY small. I did think it was overpriced for the size of the room. The view however was perfect.
Review 103:The location was perfect.
Review 104:The location was incomparable. The room was very standard and lacked a view and any air-conditioning ---at $800/ night for the 4 of us in one room.
Review 105:The cost is ridiculous and the place is teeming with bus tour groups. Because of this the hotel is not a good value for the money. There are other places that have excellent locations, less swarming crowds of bus tourists and a much better value.
Review 106:The locations is great, right at the trailheads for the Plain of Six Glaciers and Lake Agnes.
Review 107:30-40min wait for breakfast. You couldn't reserve a table for a specific time.Bathroom too small.
Review 108:Bedroom superbly located with fabulous view of the mountain and glacier.Stunningly beautiful chateau.Very comfortable bed.Staff courteous, very helpful.
Review 109:I could enjoy the lake view at room & during my stay at the hotel. Convenience for canoeing, jogging with good dining. An unexpected upgrade to a suit!
Review 110:Expensive rooms to only have to pay more for Parking, Internet, Breakfast Etc, Plus no airconditioning.
Review 111:The Beds were comfy, the staff were helpful and the location was brilliant.
Review 112:Bit rich that you have to pay for Wifi, given the cost of the rooms.
Review 113:The view from many parts of the hotel over Lake Louise and surrounds is simply breath taking.
Review 114:Room was very warm. Portable A/C makes to much noise to have in room.
Review 115:View and staff. Staff were always willing to help with any situation. Excellent!!
Review 116:Not applicable!
Review 117:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Extremely knowledgable concierge team. Great choice of restaurants. Stunning walks around lake Louise, one of the most beautiful places in the world. We recieved complimentary drinks as a result of a minor complaint. The in room dining service is phenomenal!
Review 118:When we checked-in, we didn't have a lake view room. This trip was part of my Mom's bucket list so I called down to reception to see what was available. Geoff Cotton quickly gave us a couple options and moved us immediately into a room with a spectacular view. Made my Mom's trip extra special.
Review 119:It would be helpful if complimentary Internet was offered to guests, especially given the luxury nature of the hotel.
Review 120:The mountain view rooms offered comfortable accommodation with good views. Views of the lake were a short walk away - either outside or at the restuarants, which offered great food & beverage options.
Review 121:Breakfast. For this standard of hotel, the breakfast buffet was disappointing to say the least. This lets the hotel down. It simply does not match the high standards elsewhere with the hotel.
Review 122:The Lobby Liunge with views over the lake and friendly staff. Great for afternoon tea and early evening drinks
Review 123:The bed was too soft - seems to be a common occurrence in our travels around Canada
Review 124:Friendly staff and we were given an upgrade to a suite by the hotel for our 30th wedding anniversary.
Review 125:staff at the concierge need improvement not as friendly as the rest.
Review 126:Location and sommelier seamus in fair view restaurant was great. So lovely and knowledgable
Review 127:Umm I wished there is a microwave in the room to heat my daughter milk at night!
Review 128:We rented the 2 bedroom suite great for big family. Adults enjoy the company in the living room while the kids are sleeping in their rooms! Nearby and cozy!
Review 129:It's always a treat to stay there however the price is not really in our budget and I feel uneasy spending 350.00 plus per night for a place to lay down my head.
Review 130:The scenery is so relaxing and the Lake just captures you. The trails are excellent even for the novice hiker. The service in the hotel is for the elete traveller and there's some real quaint shops to browse through after taking in some of their fine dining.
Review 131:The foggy pool, the room was squeezed to the max (half my closet was too narrow to have hangers, I could not open the doors of the fridge cabinet without wrestling it against the bed, the towel where almost at celling level and had to climb on bath the get them...). Also, it's 30$ min for parking, come-on! It was already 300$ for the tiniest room... Also, impossible the get the room lower than 23C even with the window open and 5c outside...would never go back for that price...
Review 132:The hot tub and the location. The staff was really on the dot.
Review 133:My room was so dusty that I had to spend over an hour cleaning out the drawers, wiping all the surfaces in the room, etc. when I arrived. Three out of the seven restaurants were closed during my stay, reducing the choice of food, and much renovation work was taking place on my floor (8) and the floor below (7). At one point the drilling was so loud I had to stop a telephone conversation with my husband in the UK as I could not hear him properly. The customer services manager kindly deducted $50 per night from my stay in compensation, for which I am grateful, but there was no indication when I booked the room that 8 hours per day of renovation work would be going on. The internet costs over $14 per day, which is a shocking piece of profiteering in an age when much cheaper (and better) hotels routinely offer WiFi for free. I was very annnoyed by this, as one is paying several hundred dollars to stay in the hotel. The food was generally pretty awful and very expensive. It is also overly-complex and frequently culturally inauthentic. For example, I suffered through taglietelle with cured chicken, maple-ish bacon and vinegar-y artichokes in a white sauce. Slightly more successful was the mushroom ravioli in a pumpkin sauce, but does anyone know the name of these hitherto unknown Italian recipes?? Answers on a postcard, please. Or eclairs without chantilly creme??? I felt ill after eating the chicken/bacon/artichoke excrescence. And as for the price of the food...Take food with you from Safeway in Banff...it's the only safe way to stay at Fortress Lake Louise...Oh by the way, the bathrooms are so small (because instead of just having shower rooms, a bath has been squeezed in as well), that my cat Felix would barely be able to squeeze in with me, let alone be swung around, which I wouldn't do anyway, because he's so adorable...I stubbed my toe on the side of the bath whilst climbing over the lavatory to try to get into the shower.
Review 134:The excellent and committed staff that one sees (the front desk team, the Lakeview Lounge waiters, the bell men, the pleasant housekeepers etc.) make up for the staff that you don't see, but who are responsible for all that is wrong with this hotel: ie. the senior management and the owners. The first thing they should do is arrange to deep-clean the bedrooms on a regular basis, as the housekeeping staff have enough to do each day as it is. The second is to clean the stairs. I took the stairs from floor 8 to floor 6 near the Glacier wing, and boy, are they dirty. There are dust balls on each step. The view out of the windows is great of course - being one of the most beautiful natural vistas that most people will see in their entire lives - but as it was God who created Lake Louise, not Fairmont hotels, they're making a profit out of Him as well as the rest of us...
Review 135:Some extra annoying fees like parking. But overall it was a great value for money b
Review 136:Neautiful setting and classic decor. The best view I've ever had. Got a lake view upgrade and while the room as on the small side it was cozy and elegant. My sister had injured herself skiing and the staff went over and above to make her comfortable and help her.
Review 137:24-hour deli within the hotel was a godsend as there were few restaurant choices within 5 km. However it seemed that some of the deli staff had not previously worked in food operations, e.g. not knowing how to dispense coffee.
