Reviews for Hôtel Le Germain Charlevoix

Review 1:This is a very special property with a really terrific staff. Our room was incredibly comfortable and cool, the thermal pools delighted my 9 year old son, the food is wonderful, and the concierge team is so helpful. The effect of the atmosphere is immediate and we knew we'd be returning almost as soon as we arrived.

Review 2:The set-up is just perfect. The bed was truly comfortable. We dined at the bistro, we both had tartare and it was excellent. One thing I appreciated in the room was the hair dryer, it might sound strange, but compared to the small and not so powerfull dryers usually found in hotel rooms, it made a difference.

Review 3:Le Labors - awesome. Our room was lovely but the platform on which the bed sits is narrow and I had a fall off the platform when I got up in the middle of the night..... this could have resulted in a bad injury but luckily I was able to catch my fall..... please this is a potential risk.

Review 4:The service is not as you would expect for a hotel that price. The carpet in front of the main desk in the loby was in terrible shape. The room was much too small with no desk to work on or comfortable chair. There was virtually no wardorve (just a small section in which you cannot hang long pants or a dresses). There was no refrigirator or iron in the room.

Review 5:This is a modern hotel with a unique architecture. It is clean and everything was functional. The bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet. There is a very nice trail that leads to the St-Lawrence seaway. It is at walking distance from Baie-Saint-Paul's stores and souvenir shops.

Review 6:We loved the rocking chair but would have liked about ten more square feet to accommodate a second one... Breakfast service in the Marche was slow and careless, and we would have preferred free breakfast. We were irked that Les Labours restaurant couldn't take us--as hotel guests--taking us for dinner before 9:30. Granted, it's popular, boy there ought to a way to accommodate hotel guests.

Review 7:The hotel's contemporary flair, it's brilliant design, use of natural materials, extraordinary attention to aesthetic and functional detail. Our room--423--felt cramped at first, but it worked. We loved the patio, which expanded the sense of the room.

Review 8:Very cool spot and surrounding countryside and St Lawrence just beautiful. Mouton noir and the hotel restaurant are great. Room with a balcony really nice.

Review 9:I guess there was supposed to be an iPad in our room, something we only learned the day we left. Tons of spiders, including inside and across windows. Could use more storage in our room.

Review 10:The architecture, grounds, farm culture, dinner at the main dining room

Review 11:First time for all of us which that we could of eaten in the dining room was full to bad. Should keep place for people staying at the hotel.

Review 12:Beautiful place very comfortable bed, like that we had a balcony.

Review 13:The over-rated and over-priced restaurant with extremely poor service. The room was very stylish but there were no reading lights and no place to put a large suitcase. The cushions on the only chair in the room slid out of position whenever I sat on them.

Review 14:Design. The hotel is very stylish.

Review 15:The gym is really too small and has barely no equipment. Stayed 2 nights, 1 1/2 days of rain. I would have liked to have a decent gym facility available. At breakfast on our last day. I asked for 1 pancake (agreed with the extra charge) instead of the 3 pancakes offered on the menu. The waitress says she will have to ask permission to the chef, but never did and just forgot about it I guess. It's breakfast!! Not rocket science.

Review 16:Staff really nice and helpful. Really nice design. Very clean room and facility.

Review 17:I stayed in Le Clos (which was great) but...I am in my early 80's and found it difficult to get into the bed!! It is way too high. I had to devise a way of doing this or sleep on the chaise-longue! Once in the bed, it was extremely comfortable. Perhaps you could put a small stool or little step-ladder by the bed which is what I do at home since I have the same problem. Why are mattresses so deep now?

Review 18:The location is great. Style and design of the hotel are way up there!

Review 19:In our room there was a constant noise of the hotel ventilation in the background. Fortunately, it was switched off at night.

Review 20:Huge, modern, eco-friendly hotel complex with five different buildings. Well located in the Charlevoix region. The design of the hotel and the rooms is very nice. The rooms are large, clean and modern. Excellent shower. The food is fantastic as well.

Review 21:The spa was wonderful except for the fact that they accept small children. The children use the outdoor hot bath as a pool and make lots of noise, in an area that is usually quiet and peaceful and reserved for adults only in every other spa worldwide.

Review 22:Loved the room, bed are super comfy, room was bright, not too small and not too large. The bathroom could be bigger in the family rooms, I was with my 16 year old son and had there been the 4 of us it would have been way too small. The spa was wonderful except for the fact that they accept small children. The children use the exterior hot bath as a pool and make lots of noise in an area that is usually quiet and peac

Review 23:The hotel was beautiful, and we loved tha there was an outdoor skating rink, wonderful way to spend time at the hotel. The room was so comfortable, although quite small, but if rooming solo or with one other person, you will be fine as long as you didn't pack very heavily. Location was fairly close to Le Massif and the drive is beautiful. The staff was a little slow at the restaurant but were otherwise very polite. This was overall a wonderful experience.

Review 24:Difficult access to the public bar if you don't want to eat! Pool/SPA not included and not cheap. Was difficult to get the room serviced and to get the gym temperature below 80F!

Review 25:Large rooms, showers separated from WC, good beddings.

Review 26:That we had to leave.

Review 27:The entire facility (it's much more than a hotel), staff and services were excellent. As seasoned travelers - we rate this amongst our top places to stay/visit. We'll return to the region just to enjoy La Ferme again.

Review 28:The staff of the hotel is nice and gentle. The circumstances of sleeping is clean and calm, and the hotel is near the beach. There are also the animals, the sheeps and the cows, in the farm around. The garden behind the building is so beautiful.

Review 29:High price compared to other hotels in the area. Extra fee charged to use swimming pool.

Review 30:"Environmentally Conscious" facility with nice hiking trail to the beach. Family-Friendly rooms.

Review 31:We have now stayed a La Ferme on two occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. This time we used the spa which was extraordinary. We only hope we can stay again for a longer time.

Review 32:waiting 1h for the main course at the diner... and waiting 25' for the breakfast the next morning.. organisation needs to be improved at the restaurant

Review 33:beautiful hotel lounge, design, facilities, landscape... commercial gesture from the management following our troubles at the restaurant

Review 34:The 31/2 hour return train trip from Baie-St-Paul to la Malbaie (optional) was hugely expensive--$476.71 for two seniors -- and is something I do not recommend. Although the wine was good and flowing, and the staff most attentive, I expected much more food than a few appetizers given the price and the length of the trip.

Review 35:Everything - from the in-room coffee machines to the spa, the swimming pool, and the exercise program to a great staff. Also, all salads etc. come directly from their on site organic garden.

Review 36:The rooms are furnished in an wierd decor. Bath in the room, no chairs or arm chairs in the room where to sit. TV at the foot of the bed(your feet touch the TV) and very low. Miniscule closet to hang your garmets. The restaurant is over priced and not much varity.

Review 37:The location was good, walking distance to city center. The room was quiet although you could hear your neighbor cough.

Review 38:Fantastic rooms ,excelent food , spa area A1. We really enjoyed our stay more then expected ...

Review 39:Coat hangers in closet that you only see in motels in them 1960s. Why?

Review 40:A hotel with soul. The surroundings make you feel alive!

Review 41:Loved the room as well as the location. Wake up looking at fields..very peaceful.

Review 42:In the middle of nowhere in a field lies Hotel La Ferme. No elevator, High prices, not really worth your time and money.

Review 43:room too small. room ventilation not sufficient. room facilities Worn-Ikea-ish. beds too small in not comfortable.

Review 44:Service needs to be standardized.

Review 45:Perfect location and high quality facilities.

Review 46:Room position / view, hotel layout

Review 47:Amazing balance between a country escape and epicurean luxuries. Will definitely return!

Review 48:You had to pay extra to use the pool, this was not advised prior to or during check-in.

Review 49:Nice looking property, nice fixtures, rooms small

Review 50:breakfast staff lack of attention to clients

Review 51:A perfect combination of design. comfort and nature that brings superbly relaxing vacation

Review 52:Location and dinning and great help from the front house staff

Review 53:Great facility

Review 54:Loved the hotel, location, and especially the food!!

Review 55:Restaurants were just ok

Review 56:The design, room, train to ski hill

Review 57:The modern architecture and attention to detail in the design

Review 58:- Service - Restaurants

Review 59:- Location - Spa - Rooms

Review 60:Bedroom Friendly staff Delicious food Gardens growing much of the food for the hotsl

Review 61:Should give more towels and a better place to hang them. Water glasses in Le Labours smelled like dish soap.

Review 62:Food, location and service

Review 63:Beautiful setting, lovely walk to beach, interesting architecture

Review 64:This is a good area for cycling. Bikes were available for rent but they were in bad condition.

Review 65:Restaurant in the hotel was excellent for dinner

Review 66:Additional fees for the spa , can't understand such a financial model for a humble traveler

Review 67:Location and room

Review 68:We found the room a bit stuffy and warm during the night, and the aircon seemed to shut off automatically. Fortunately, the windows can be opened and we enjoyed the fresh air instead to cool the room.

Review 69:Check-in process was friendly, smooth and informative! Hotel location is fantastic, with the walk down to the river and also proximity to town. Room was extremely well appointed and comfortable!

Review 70:There wasn't a pool. What we thought was a pool was a huge hot tub and you had to pay to use it.

Review 71:The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Dining was on premises with excellent wait staff. Rooms were very clean.

Review 72:Great food experience in the Bistro. The pizza "pomme et lardons" suggested by the bartender was delicious. The Spa staff we're attentive and professional. Thank you,

Review 73:The hotel Restaurant, at night. Our dinner took us 3 hours for a simple meal and service was awful.

Review 74:The location is perfect within the small town of Baie St-Paul It is easily accessible and has a nice view of St-Lawrence River The rooms are very comfortable and we didn't miss anything. The hotel breakfast is perfect. A la carte offers interesting alternatives to the buffet, which is already complete with everything you wood expect.

Review 75:The portions at the bar were monstrous, and the food was SO-so.

Review 76:Excellent dinner and breakfast at restaurant. Outstanding waiter at dinner: Pierrot Nice spa. Very nice room. Smart design (we stayed in la Bergerie), conveniently located next to spa.

Review 77:The staff at the Spa were not welcoming and not helpful. In the hotel book yoga classes are offered and when I called I was told there were no classes because they were too busy and there was no place where I could practice on my own. No solution was offered when she could have suggested I go to the fitness room which I found on my own.

Review 78:The restaurant was wonderful- even better than our last visit. Excellent service and an interesting and well prepared menu.

Review 79:Add-ons such as the use of the spa(steam and sauna). Raised bed platforms were interesting design concept(visually cool), but was a safety issue when the power went out. My wife stumbled off the edge and bruised her ribs badly on table/stool.

Review 80:Loved the design and feeling of the place. Great atmosphere and amenities on-site. Restaurant and Bistro were excellent and reasonably priced. Close to town and Le Massif.

Review 81:Incredible staff, but occasionally they seemed like they could have benefitted from a bit more bodies when things got busy. This said, everyone was incredibly courteous. One had the impression they really, really cared about you having a special experience. Would go back, would bring friends, would highly recommend to sophisticated travelers who care about aesthetics, food, the outdoors, and want to hang out with like-minded travelers.

Review 82:We had an amazing stay at La Ferme over the Xmas holiday. This is a special place, beautiful, modern, but warm. Every detail has been taken care of, and the staff was incredible. We got red-letter treatment. The vibe is relaxed, but sophisticated and there was an eclectic mix of young hipsters, artsy 50-somethings, and families with kids. The town is beautiful and the spa was beyond relaxing. We arrived shortly before dinner, to a relaxed crowd having après-ski drinks, there were a few ice skaters on the rink outside the main lodge. We settled at the bar, and had incredibly delicious pizzas. We skied one day at le massif, gorgeous, then spent another day hanging around the hotel, hitting the spa, and taking a lovely walk to town. The new train to la massif is very cool and the views gorgeous. Our meals were excellent and we really liked the way kids were welcome, but expected to behave, nice break from hotels where the kids run the joint!

Review 83:The room was very small. The breakfast was poor. The location of the hotel in a field without trees too close from the village.

Review 84:The food was good at the bistro

Review 85:The design of the in-room bath. With the soap and shampoo containers attached to the wall, it was impossible to stop water from falling on the floor during a shower. As a result, mold was beginning to form on the floor under the bath.

Review 86:The restaurant. The Scandinavian design. The layout of the property. The gardens used to raise their own flowers and produce.

Review 87:needs a small fridge, especially as a family room, needed to store milk, etc...

Review 88:Loved the family room: queen bed for us and bunk beds for 7 year old to sleep and play in (top bunk). had enough room for a baby playpen too. liked the split shower and toilet/sink, never needing to wait to use it for either function.

Review 89:A train with diesel engines runing for quite long time had been parked just besides the hotel. That is not compatible with a hotel of this quality. It was unacceptably loud and the exhausts were significant. It is welcomed to have a train station so close, but the diesel engines should be stopped for the parking period (it was not just a stopping of the train).

Review 90:Very nice hotel infrastrucure and matrerials.

Review 91:The room and access corridors are not quite as depicted on the website. 23$ per person charge to access the spa area. Room pricing is about 30% overstated.

Review 92:The bed and bedding were excellent. The modern shower very efficient.

Review 93:Mainly problem was no boiler for hot water in the room. 120Cad for 3persons for a poor breakfast . Really a shame . 2 small pieces of bread. Their swimming pull is not free for the guest . You need to pay . Itis a giant bah tub no a swimming pull . a mini room for gym smaller thanthe bedroom . No activities when it is raining . Too many people fromthe train coming to visit the hotel . Certain hour u cannot have peace .

Review 94:I must say very nice hotel , clean , good view , great area . Good bar ,good cocktail

Review 95:Very innovative. Fresh and TERROIR oriented. Amazing design and focus on local fresh produces. Unique built-in train terminal and Sunday market. It will be a real spa one day.

Review 96:- Did have to wait a little bit too long on the pizza in the café.

Review 97:- Hotel with a vision (both on the ecological front as in the way customers are treated). - Very friendly staff. You feel immediately welcome.

Review 98:I would think that a new hotel would have elevators for its customers. We were travelling with older people and we all realize that the accommodations are not planned for the clientele. I would think that this is a big mistake. It is overpriced for the services they offer. Thanks.

Review 99:I really like the location, the proximity of the train station.

Review 100:the separate pavillions; you have to go out of your building to go to the dining room in the main pavillion. You must know that the hotel is on a sight of an old farm... so the landscape is as...; to reach the mountain if you go for skiing, the train station is at the foot of the hotel and take short time to be at the bottom of slopes.

Review 101:the scandinavian design et concept; room; dining.

Review 102:All people are very friendly. Execellent room srevice, restaurant meals, spectacles... I wonder if the hotel rent biclycles in summer or offer some outdoor activities

Review 103:that we couldn't stay longer:(

Review 104:Design and decor is fantastic, great customer service, attention to little details, friendly and attentive staff. outstanding food be it quality or presentation.we didn't even consider going to a restaurant outside the hotel. great spa and relaxation facilities. looking forward to the train stopping at the hotel on a regular schedule.

Review 105:Excellent service with great attention to our needs combined withbeautiful decor ,relaxing environment and great dinning experience atthe right price.

Review 106:there was no bath tub in the room. After skiing on a cold day I like to soak in a tub. I do not like going outdoors to the spa.

Review 107:the shower, sink, heated floor in the bathroom, the bed, the view, the pleasant and helpful staff, the room temperature, the dining room

Review 108:- Value for money: for 200 $ a night you would expect a higher quality rooms, services and amenities- Room: The heating system in the room didn't seem to work properly, we woke up in the middle of the night freezing and the heating would just work - No elevator in the section where our room was and we were at the 2nd floor so we had to carry our luggage and stuff on the stairs, and there was no baggage assistance offered to us, I don;t know if that exists in that hotel anyway - I understand that Quebec is a French speaking province however the hotel welcomes tourists from all over North America and the world and not all those tourists speak French, so you would expect the staff of the hotel to be cooperative and communicate in a language other than English but we we spoke English to them they got offended and gave us attitude and only spoke to us in French - Amenities: the hotel booklet mentions that if you forgot to bring some items you can ask the hotel stuff and they can bring them to you, so when we asked for toothbrushes and toothpaste they said they didn't have any and didn't even bother to get us any the next day when they re-stocked - One day we got back to the room and we found that the housekeeping team left the cleaning detergents in our room and didn't change our towels, they took the dirty ones but didn't replace them, so when we tried to contact the reception staff nobody ever picked up the phone, luckily we came across a housekeeping staff in the hallway and we asked her to bring us towels

Review 109:Location was the only thing that was good about this hotel as it is avery short driving distance from Le Massif

Review 110:Great place!

Review 111:Nothing! Well, perhaps that we didn't stay longer!

Review 112:Everything! The food, the ambience, the rooms and furnishing, the shower, the hot tub!

Review 113:The architecture

Review 114:Great place to enjoy the winter! Merveilleux! As soon as you get there you feel great!

Review 115:The design and overall ambience.

Review 116:The no conexion from the loby to the rooms. With no room service with-24 dégrée ....

Review 117:The modern style

Review 118:Not a thing.

Review 119:It combined both a country and an upscale environment in a very interesting way.

Review 120:No full length mirror in room, no bathrobe

Review 121:Modern, comfortable with a touch of luxury

Review 122:Nothing!

Review 123:We loved everything about the hotel. It is new, clean, restaurants very good, etc...
