Reviews for Spruce Grove Inn
Review 1:The blankets were paper thin so we had to turn furnace up due to the fact we were there on one of the coldest weekend of the winter
Review 2:Room was spacious but dated. Lamps and television were old
Review 3:Bed was uncomfortable. WiFi was basically unusable. Outdated furnishings in the room.
Review 4:The continental breakfast was fairly good. You had to go the the next hotel over (Voyager) to get it, and you had to pay $8 to get hot food (aside from toast), but what they offered as complimentary was fairly good.
Review 5:Looks very nice from the outside with a nice makeover off all the balconies etc with wood, but the inside is just old 70s style and in my opinion not worth the money. Staff was friendly but too strict - patrolled all floors on New Years eve and didnt even allow acoustic guitar music ... come on, was New Years! Didnt neither give any options for a late checkout even though the cleaning staff couldnt do all the rooms at once. Breakfast was not great (toast and jam) and in the Hotel next door. I would look for another Hotel in that price range next time.
Review 6:Pool and Sauna ok
Review 7:The outside does not match the inside, kind of like a superficial model...pretty on the outside but is obsessed with porn (dirty mind). We drove up and it was quaint and looked really nice. When we walked in the door and the worn out carpet and people walking around with alcohol in paper bags was a give away that it was ghetto. I was NYE and I don't judge a little brown bagging but the interior was a let down. When we got to our room my partner had to pull a 3 inch black hair off her pillow. My comforter had long hair wrapped up in it. This is disgusting. I don't mind older hotels but they have to be clean to be acceptable. I think I would rather sleep in my truck than this place.
Review 8:Good location
Review 9:we had a completely unreasonable noise compliant because the walls are paper thin, it's ridiculous that you cannot bring your ski gear in your room and you have to lock it up in the parkade which had a very easy code to crack and the lockers had locks that are very easy to cut, the pillows were flat, the blankets were 100 years old and useless, the door to our patio didn't open, the check out process was painful
Review 10:underground parking
Review 11:Our room was reasonably clean but the halls stairwells and elevators were filthy. Also a child is a child. Funny how they are adults at 16 when it suits financially. Didn't appreciate the extra charge for this.
Review 12:Location
Review 13:No maid service for the full 4 day stay, and was treated poorly on the third day when I finally phoned in (like I did something wrong in waiting to call later in the stay once I was fed up, sister hotels manager was very rude and actually argued about this??). Pool area at sister hotel was disgusting, should be shut down. No pool or anything right in this hotel but access to sister hotel. Corners cut in reno's: cheap paint that shows fingerprints etc from prior guests in our room, lots of dings in walls, old carpet coming apart...
Review 14:The hotel was decent, newly renovated but corners cut, overall the room was satisfactory and the hotel was quiet. The reservation was not entered in the system but they were able to upgrade us to a loft room. The manager handled it well
Review 15:The mattresses were lumpy uncomfortable the springs poked you in the back They had zero support just a terrible nights sleep my suggestion is to spend some money on some new mattresses
Review 16:No signs for direction to pool or breakfast. Both of these things are advertised yet you're not told they are in the next hotel over. That didn't bother us- it was the fact that it was hard to find and there were literally zero signs saying "pool or breakfast this way" in Spruce Grove.
Review 17:Great ski lockers, lots of underground parking, a decent room at a good (Banff) price to crash for the night - especially if you're just going for a quick ski weekend. Staff were nice and helpful.
Review 18:Room was not clean when we arrived, floor hadn't been vacuumed. There was a great view of the other hotel rooms across from us...Not to mention the TV was super outdated. It's the middle of winter and the room didn't heat up not to mention the blankets on the beds were super thin. The staff at the Voyager Inn where we had breakfast were rude. The breakfast was quite average as well. This hotel was way over priced for the money we spent.
Review 19:Not much at all.
Review 20:We were put by the door that connects to the underground tunnel and it was very loud all night because the main doors to the hotel close during the night so everyone had to use the entrance at the other hotel and use the tunnel. Woken up several times from loud talking, slamming door, etc. very annoying.
Review 21:Very friendly
Review 22:Looks a lot nicer on the outside than the interior does. This place has not been updated in at least 20 years. Booked the king suite - waste of money. Tiny bathroom, no microwave or fridge. Housekeeping came at 5:30 pm when we had just gotten back from skiing. Continental breakfast was disappointing, want you to pay extra for hot breakfast. Would not stay here again, location is too far from downtown to make up for poor facilities.
Review 23:Staff were nice and helpful.
Review 24:The continental breakfast was disappointing! $8 to upgrade to the hot breakfast option is pricey considering it's already $20 per extra person in the room
Review 25:Loved the spacious room and soft beds. Very friendly staff, loves the access to the outdoor pool.
Review 26:We booked this room, in part, because of the included breakfast. We were dismayed when we found out that we had to travel to a neighbouring hotel for the breakfast (in 30 below weather). When we got there we were told that we would have to pay more in order to have any of the hot breakfast items. We did, and when we got over to the hot buffet...everything was cold and shriveled from sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long. The waffles were hard as rocks. We did not get to eat any of the "free" breakfast that we ended up having to pay for. We are so put off by this, we will not be staying in this hotel again.
Review 27:The rooms, though outdated, where very clean.
Review 28:Housekeeping didn't bother dropping by until 6 pm, by which time Ihad already made the beds myself and cleaned the room. The sheets aretoo short to cover the whole bed so there is about 10" of nastymattress stuck out either at the foot, or up by your head. The freecontinental breakfast is in another hotel, and was worth every penny ofzero. The hot tub, and pool are also in another hotel, and I am not surethey had been cleaned in 2015....oh well maybe in 2016!
Review 29:1. Since we used Booking.com we were not able to change the number of people booked in when one of our family members couldn't come due to illness that day. 2. No refrigerator for the picnic items we brought for the ski hill.
Review 30:Comfortable beds. Spacious rooms
Review 31:Complimentary breakfast is through a tunnel to the hotel next door. It is a sad set up for breakfast. The room is like entering a prison cafeteria. The selection was poor and not very fresh. The rooms are basic and clean but noise carries through the hallways to the rooms. Be sure to ask for rooms away from elevators and vending machines. There is also a mandatory $100 deposit per room.
Review 32:Price
Review 33:Breakfast, toilet didn't work half the time, shower let out a piercing sound that was highly irritating, no mini fridge, elevator was ridiculously slow, vending machines didn't work.
Review 34:Heated underground parking, king size bed.
Review 35:Very old, musky smell throughout hotel, hard beds, old yellowing aheets that didnt fit bed (looked like maybe twin sheets on queen bed by accident?), room had hole in wall behind the curtain, heating/air unit was falling off wall.
Review 36:Location, heated outdoor pool
Review 37:Everything about this property was run Dow. Taking luggage in was very poor ( ramps) etc Parking was the worst ever! If you could even find parking !!! The whole place was without a doubt a huge disappointment and to end it .... Option to pay $8 extra in the morning for the " hot food" at the continental breakfast !
Review 38:The pool was cold therefore the whirl pool was overly crowded.the restaurant staff should b replaced. Over charged for buffet that was empty or over cooked food.
Review 39:The internet is pretty slow - granted if you're in banff you're probably not going to be using it a whole lot anyway so not the biggest deal. My only real complaint was the "complimentary" breakfast...it was very basic with a small selection of pastries and cereals ect. They had hot breakfasts for $8 each which we paid the first morning we were there because we were in a rush to get to the mountains, and although it was an average hot meal....after paying $120 a night I don't think I should have had to pay an additional $16 for a breakfast. We didn't bother going back for breakfast again..id rather pay an extra $4 and get an amazing breakfast in one of the restaurants and cafes in the town...which is what we did.
Review 40:The bed was the comfiest bed i've ever slept in! I wish I knew what kind of mattress it was so I could buy one! Awesome location... 5 mins walk from loads of restaurants, shops etc...we walked to and from all our meals with no issue. Staff were friendly, rooms were spotless..and stunning views of the mountains from our balcony...
Review 41:They said breakfast included, there was only fruit included you had to pay for a hot breakfast. Wasn't happy with the breakfast at all or the staff. Beds were hard, beer caps laying inside the room. Drain in bathtub was plugged.
Review 42:Pretty fair price for what it was.
Review 43:We forgot toothpaste and there's no store in the hotel. The temperature was always a little too hot or a little too cold.
Review 44:Our room was huge. It was clean and well maintained.
Review 45:Too far from downtown Banff.
Review 46:The breakfast was not even in the hotel, it was next door in another hotel and had very limited selection unless you wanted to pay extra to have hot food. Beds were ok. Entire hotel needs renovation and updates. Will never stay there again.
Review 47:One of the managers pointed her finger at me while the door was closing on the elevator and told me to watch my behaviour "or else" I was very confused and told her she had the wrong person. She carried on to point her finger in my face in front of a full elevator and refused to listen to me when I told her I had NO idea what she was on about. Very embarrassing and very unproffessional. This lady had hugely mistaken me for someone else and really ruined my experience during my stay.
Review 48:Location and Value for Money
Review 49:Wifi did not work in the room. Staff at desk was unhelpful. Mattress was ancient. Breakfast is in hotel next door and they charge 8 cad extra for a few low quality hot items
Review 50:I was supposed to stay at Spruce Grove Inn, which seems to be a nice hotel, but they didnt accept my dog. It was a surprise because prioro to booking the hotel I only looked for pet friendly hotels.
Review 51:The rooms smelled like smoke. Very outdated, the whole hotel inside needs renovated. Had to go next door to eat and for pool services.
Review 52:The outside appearance makes the place look nice. Underground parking tight for big trucks.
Review 53:They took100 cad from our debit card for potential room damage and it took 4 days for them to put it back into our account although we were assured it was cancelled at check out. They never replied to any emails and no apologises.
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:the room the receptionist gave us wasn't even nearly the same of what we booked. For family traveling with baby is not the good option. Very poor internet connection.
Review 56:It's a quiet place.
Review 57:For the price of room, there should at least be hair dryers in bathroom. Continental breakfast was toast..or fruit salad. Was the worst hotel I stayed in on my trip and cost the most!
Review 58:We came to get my father who just had a quadruple bypass at the hopital. We got a discount and the room was a lot for the price, as well as good service.
Review 59:The room is very outdated. Mattress and pillows are old smelly and uncomfortable. Breakfast in the other building (the voyager inn) was basic
Review 60:Location. Underground parking lot.
Review 61:The included breakfast is at the hotel next door and is terrible (only plastic dishes and plastic food). We left and ate downtown instead. They should either offer no breakfast at all or charge 5 bucks more and offer a decent breakfast.
Review 62:Okay for a one-night stay
Review 63:Breakfast was boring, no hot food, not a lot to choose from. The pool was hard to find and not as nice as we were expecting.
Review 64:The location was very close to downtown, only a 10-15 minute walk which was nice.
Review 65:No hairdryer in the room.No fridge.Bad surprise when I discover bundle of hairs on the inner side of shower curtain.
Review 66:Good location.Under ground garage.Price.
Review 67:The need to "upgrade" the "free" breakfast was a bit disappointing.
Review 68:We appreciated the friendly efficient staff, the cost effective price for a king room, the view from our room and the secure underground parking, Thank you!
Review 69:Paying over $450 for 2 nights while not having hot breakfast, no fridge in room. WiFi was poor. There wasn't room service if you wanted to order food. I get better service in hotels that are cheaper. Being away from everything sucks due to the colder weather. The phone in room didn't work to make calls outside of hotel. The TV was poor and remote didn't work. Very poor lighting in room as well. I expected more.
Review 70:The bed is comfy. The balcony. Spacious room. Nice bathroom.
Review 71:The hotel beds are uncomfortable. If you're a price sensitive customer then go for this hotel otherwise just upgrade to a nicer place.
Review 72:Rooms were clean and the location was great.
Review 73:We asked for a cot for my son who has Special needs and were refused a cot:/ He did not sleep all night and tried to escape the room multiple times..A cot would have been safer than having him sleeping on the floor..
Review 74:Overpriced! Inside the hotel is a run down, worn out 70's stylemotel. For $180 dollars a night you do not even get a mini fridge, hairdryer or flat screen tv. This place is worth no more than $60 per night. We have never felt so ripped off with any other accommodations. We willnever stay here ever again.
Review 75:The hotel exterior looks nice.
Review 76:The room was plain. No fridge and microwave. Not even to offer for any guest to heat any thing up. All parking, swimming pools, breakfast or any meals at a different hotel across the parking lot.
Review 77:Bath tub was a good size.
Review 78:Room wasn't ready, when returned to check in there was a huge lineup. Breakfast is mediocre, served in a conference room in a separate hotel.
Review 79:Good location about 15 minute walk from downtown Banff
Review 80:The bathroom was VERY dirty....complete with red wine all over the ceiling and long black hair all over the floor. Gross. The beds are very old and well used...also gross. Breakfast was free, but nobody would have paid for that.
Review 81:The price was reasonable for the location.
Review 82:No staff at reception desk, obliged to to check out in the hotel nearby. Breakfast served in a conference room in the hotel nearby, looking like a poor school refectory but certainly not a dining room Filthy carpets in corridors.
Review 83:We arrived earlier than 4pm and were not allowed to check in (in the last 12 months whenever I travel with my husband hotels have graciously allowed us to check in early. This time I was not with my husband, but with my daughter).Reception told (without a hint of empathy) us to come back at four. I am 66 years old and we had our 14 months old grandchild with us. So we wandered around Banff until 4. When we arrived there was a check in line-up and the one and only receptionist was on the phone for quite some time. They seriously need more than one receptionist or permit people to check in early to prevent the long registration line-up. We finally got our room, changed and had to go for supper. The lineup for people to check in was still long at 5pm. REALLY? Soured my start to a vacation. My daughter lives in Calgary and we only had one night. So we might as well have driven into Banff for the day.Right after dinner we had to put baby to bed. After breakfast we checked out. So there was no need to stay in Banff. Everything else was good. Perhaps I can't expect more at the price.
Review 84:The breakfast and the breakfast room were fantastic. Free parking was a bonus.
Review 85:The room wasn't the cleanest and our air conditioner was leaking. It was fine for one night for a place to crash, but I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time in there. The Wifi didn't work very well either. Breakfast was a bit of a tease, they had a hot breakfast where you thought you got your free breakfast from but you had to pay extra for it.
Review 86:It was the most affordable hotel I found at the time, it was decently conveniently located and our room was quiet.
Review 87:The facilities were run down and in need of updating, the water was tepid (never actually hot), the room was very dated and not comfortable. Bedding/beds were old and well used.
Review 88:Parking was free and convenient, the staff was also friendly and helpful.
Review 89:This hotel was awful! It smelt funny, looked dirty, was extremely noisy and the beds sagged in the middle! I'm not sure how this website calculated my review as 3.3 as I would only give it a 1!!! We originally booked for 2 nights but at 10pm on the first night we went and cancelled the second night it was that bad!!
Review 90:There was nothing about this hotel that I liked
Review 91:'Complimentary' breakfast was served in the hotel next door(sister hotel). I was extremely unhappy with the food and drinks beingsupplied in polystyrene cups, paper plates and using plastic utensils!!! I use better quality materials at my BBQ's and expect far, farbetter from an hotel establishment. I was infuriated at such lowstandards after staying in the Spruce Grove Hotel. Disappointed. Therating does not give a true reflection.
Review 92:Room was excellent, clean and very spacious.
Review 93:Noisy. Some people still giggling and talking loud on the hallway when in fact it's 3:00 am in the morning. It's hard to go back to sleep.
Review 94:Location is great, close to everything.
Review 95:wifi signals too low. and wifi is too slow. The most ridiculous thing is when I asked the staff for an extra wifi password, she said no. Each person is only allowed to use one device. I need computer to do work, and I need cell phones to do other stuff. I don't understand what's the differences between connecting wifi with one device and two devices? Especially when the wifi is not even working at all.
Review 96:They threw away our water bottles before we checked out. When we came back after a morning walk, the cleaning staff was there already and thought that we had checked out already. But all of our stuff were still inside the room!
Review 97:nothing that we can think of
Review 98:Because you could not check in before 4 pm we had to come back and stand in line. Also a mini fridge and a microwave would be useful.
Review 99:Although we had to wait in line and some rooms were not ready by 4 pm the young girl at the desk and apologetic and very friendly.
Review 100:No wifi in the room, even the reception area had poor wifi. Really onlyworked in the breakfast areas. Also, breakfast was really utility. Notinviting. You could pay $8.00 to upgrade to the dining room and haveeggs and bacon, but when we did that the second day, it honestlywasn't worth it. Also, the pool was in the basement and mostly scarylooking. I thought it was hilarious that they had to put up a sign forpeople to not be naked in the pool.
Review 101:The hotel is nicer on the outside than inside. The free parking wasunderground and clean. You could get a daily $5.00 bus pass that ranfrom the hotel all the way from the gondola.
Review 102:Wifi was nil, staff was rude and only one person working counter waiting forever to check in . Line up out the door . No fridge in room or microwave . Travel 2 floors to get to ice .
Review 103:Outside was beautiful but it needs an update inside ,
Review 104:A bit shabby. Breakfast in sister hotel next door. Very basic breakfast and served in a massive room with no atmosphere. Rooms noisy.
Review 105:Easy walk into town
Review 106:I had 9 members and booked 2 rooms. Hotel made me book third room for my 3 years old daughter who didn't fit in the room. That made my expenses high. Felt really sad. No good internet as well
Review 107:The bathtub water pressure was very low and took forever to run a bath
Review 108:They overbooked the hotel and upgraded our room to a loft at no extra cost. They also let us come back and look through the room for a lost item. Very accomodating
Review 109:Wifi did not work. Hallways were dirty and in need of repair/updating. Breakfast was very basic, most food trays, muffins and pasteries were empty and we were told they had run out, this at 7:30 am.
Review 110:Room was clean and well appointed. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 111:1. The evening front desk attendant was a bit rude when being asked about their internet connection. 2. The internet connection really was bad. We could'nt even connect! We we're there for leisure but also for business so i have to pay extra aside from what we paid for free wifi just to get a signal....
Review 112:The breakfast was not what we expected and we didn't eat it - cereal and toast is not worth being called a continental breakfast. Additionally as a person who cannot eat dairy or wheat the selection was poor and I went to Starbucks instead. Additionally my room was not ready at 4pm as stipulated in the reservation and I had to wait until 4:40 when the receptionist gave me a different room because the first original still wasn't ready.
Review 113:I liked the cleanliness of the room.
Review 114:Wifi sucks, no use of wifi coupon as night there is no wifi available. The hotel room does not have complimentary drinking water and even for family of 4, we had only 2 bath towels. The breakfast arranged within Voyager Inn is very pathetic, not even a boiled egg, stale croissants and fruit loops. Outdoor swimming pool is not maintained and kids were very disappointed.
Review 115:Location from Banff downtown is 20min by walk
Review 116:Not being able to check in before 4 and then there was a lineup and only one person doing the checkin. The fact one ore books should enhance one's time in the wait libe
Review 117:Beds, breakfast was more than adequate and the walk downtown was beneficial to one's well being
Review 118:The room we had was cozy. We only stayed one night so unfortunately didn't get to use any of the other facilities (e.g. Pool). The rooms were clean and beds comfy.
Review 119:Not enough towels for bathroom. Unfriendly staff. Needed to go to other building for pool and breakfast. Staff were hanging out and smoking in between buildings.
Review 120:Rude staff, had issues with washroom tub and told the front desk and her answer was SO what can I do? Cheap and stale breakfast. Will never stay there again.
Review 121:No fridge in room. Breakfast was good for continental, but lots of high sugar items - would have liked plain yogurt as well as fruit flavoured. Luggage stands would have been useful. Bed nearest air conditioner was in the path of major draft - cool night so we didn't need AC.
Review 122:Two comfortable queen beds. Balcony with chairs. Two sinks. Walking distance from downtown. Included underground parking. Comfortable stay for hikers needing a hot shower & a restful bed before the next day's hike.
Review 123:What I observed is there fillow is old no ref.and micro wave oven there hair dryer not working there WiFi was too slow we cannot uopload on Facebook, I am not satisfied with there breakfast
Review 124:I like is the way they treat us and the room
Review 125:that I had to go to another location for breakfast
Review 126:Everything else. The room was fantastic. Loved the fireplace. The bed was super comfortable. Super clean bathroom.
Review 127:The front desk service was terrible....they booked us in a room in the Voyageur Hotel when our reservation was clearly made for the Spruce Grove Inn. Our card said #112...the rooms at Spruce start in 400's. She ended up putting us in the very last available room there and it was horrible! We were on main floor right beside front desk...street side! Beds were brutal (ready for dump), room was filthy, very noisy...overall terrible experience and the worst $200 ever spent! We had requested a late checkout but @ 11 our phone kept ringing asking if we were checking out yet and a staff member also knocked on our door about it. We will never, ever go back! The worst hotel we've ever stayed at...
Review 128:Nothing....it was horriblefrom the beginning. Over charged and very under delivered!!!
Review 129:The only good thing is underground parking and the room is large. Rest is poor from desk staff attitude to bed discomfort and room cleanliness. Should have read All the reviews. The top one was extremely misleading making me wonder if it is genuine.
Review 130:Parking.
Review 131:The room looked dirty, and it had poor facilities. It didn't have a fridge. It's reception was very bad, and there was no wifi at all. There was many difficulties signing in the hotel.
Review 132:Location of breakfast , in huge conference room up stairs ,no table cloths , no atmosphere ,paper cups ,paper plater , plastic knives , terrible !! Felt that breakfast was an after thought !
Review 133:Staff were friendly and helpful
