Reviews for Banana City

Review 1:It's a four star hotel all rooms should have air conditioning, my room didn't and the night was stuffy so I open the window to let cool air in and then can't sleep because the trains go past.

Review 2:The hotel is beside a railway station. No central air condition in rooms. Breakfast room not clean Staff is hardly acheavable in breakfast room Poor breakfast

Review 3:Internet access Parking

Review 4:-on the first morning, the breakfast was very crowded and they ran out of food - no juice, no yoghurt, no fruit. Tables were not cleared so people had a hard time trying to find a free table. on the second morning I was there very early, and the food was actually nice. -the bed was comfortable but the pillow was a pathetic limp lump

Review 5:the place was well located, the room spacious for just one person, and probably the cleanest hotel room I've ever been to. Enough cupboard space, an for once at a hotel, enough hangers.

Review 6:The room was for 4 persons but there was no door in the bathroom. Even the door of the toilet did not have bolt/lock and was difficult to manage among four persons. Since our stay was for one night only so we could manage somehow.

Review 7:The hotel complex is good. Staff is nice and friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 8:I had a small poor equipped room. No breakfast on the room available. No air condition. If it is warm you need to chose between sweating or opening the window- on 2nd floor I was above terrace restaurant. street lantern shining directly into the bed and it was so loud. I could not sleep for hours. Their facilities do not justify the price. I paid way over CHF 450.- ish for 2 sleepless hot nights.

Review 9:Friendly staff, good location, great food, quick checkin and checkout even though it was fully booked. Clean facilities.

Review 10:Location near train line intersection does not allow proper rest. Hotel is not prepared for hot days as it does not have AC, which obliges to sleep with windows open and pass all night counting passing trains...

Review 11:I didn't read the reviews telling you to ask for a room facing the road, not the railway line! However, it was quite fascinating as its a very busy line. No air con, and it was boiling so we had to have windows open and trains finish late and start early!

Review 12:Roof top terrace dinner. Expensive but lovely. Mind you we had brilliant weather.

Review 13:The room had no air-conditioning, it was hot as hell. When you open the window the noise from the trains is extremely loud - the hotel is located directly beside the train station. I would not recommend staying here during summer...

Review 14:The hotel is close to city center and extremely close to the railways so it's always noisy if you keep the windows open. If you close them you won't hear a thing. Thank God it wasn't one of those hot days. Other than that, the staff was nice, wi-fi was great and the facilities were nice.

Review 15:No air conditioning, right next to train station which had good points and bad. Could hear the train- didn't bother us but a guest who was sensitive to noise may not love.

Review 16:Great breakfast included, excellent fitness facility - most extensive I have seen at a hotel, very clean, welcoming

Review 17:default booking always goes to the noisy side of the hotel (railway side). Quite side is 20chf more expensive per night Even so, Quite side is under work and it is noisy from 8 morning till 5pm Very hot room (No AC)

Review 18:Services cleanness location

Review 19:Though we had reserved for two people, our room had only been prepared for one and we had to request towels, pillows and a duvet. The room was intolerably hot - not even the supplied electric ventilator helped much - and opening the windows for fresh air was not an option because of the nerve racking screeching of the trains constantly going in and out of the Winterthur train station just below. Twice we arrived in the breakfast room to find that basics were missing - coffee cups, no more juice, no more eggs, no tables prepared, etc. The service staff seemed constantly in stress and consistently in a bad mood - also at lunchtime. I'm guessing there is a management problem here that needs to be fixed. One of the service staff apologized for the sad state of affairs at breakfast by telling us "We just had 120 Indians in here." A hotel that charges CHF 250.00 or more per night needs to be able to deal with 120 well paying guests, no matter what their nationality, in my opinion. The situation at the terrace bar was not much better. We waited for 15 minutes before seeing a waitress and she only showed up after I complained at the hotel desk. The seminar room was also sub-standard from my perspective: a very spacious, but unattractive all purpose facility in the -3rd floor basement - no windows, only artificial light, giving one a sense of insufficient ventilation - not a nice place to stay in for 3 days.

Review 20:We attended a 3-day seminar in June 2015 being held at the hotel and wanted to stay close. The rooms are modern, well furnished and clean. The desk staff are helpful and friendly and the food is excellent.

Review 21:The rooms on the side away from the train tracks was not clearly advertised as costing about 30 Cfr more than the standard room . We paid the extra for the city side and had a nice view as well as quiet.

Review 22:This hotel was in an excellent location for what we wanted to do. five min walk to the train station and only a few more mins to the downtown area. we found several very good restuarants in the Altstadt.

Review 23:Although we were two people, there was only one glass in the bathroom. You could see behind the cover of the flushing. No welcoming gift (like a little chocolate or something). Nothing to drink in the room (on arrival).

Review 24:Easy check in, even after 12am (midnight). Comfortable beds, good temperatur ein the room. Very rich breakfast!

Review 25:Directly next to railways, costs more for rooms on the other side.

Review 26:Breakfast is excellent! Good location, 10-15 minutes to foot to city center, depends speed of walking Affordable price for Switzerland level

Review 27:A rather limited food menu in the bar. No wifi in the breakfast room.

Review 28:The wifi was effective all week in the room, bar, Restaurant and reception. Food was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 29:Once I had already booked in booking.com and I had asked for a quiet room, I have been informed buy the hotel that I had booked a room that faced the railways. If I wanted a quite one, I had to pay more. So, I couldn't take back my reservation and was forced to pay a lot to have qhat I consider a normal service (acoustic insulation)

Review 30:the location

Review 31:you can't sleep with a window open, coz you hear the trains; had a room with a shower instead of a bath..

Review 32:design of the interior; quality of the bed; huge mirror; friendly personal, no stressing on paying the room on arrival; offered appetizer; very much appreciated; bottle of water by departure, very much appreciated

Review 33:The hotel is placed exactly ON a multi-track (more than 10) rail line, from which a train (min.) is passing every 1-2 minutes!..... Unless you pay ca. 50% more for getting a room to the opposite side of the building, you are practically "hugging" passing trains..... Combined with the lack of A/C in all rooms, it creates during summer nights a condition of total no sleep!.....

Review 34:Rather simple compared with a 4-star standards May be due to the conferences, not so much value for money No air conditioning

Review 35:Staff very helpful Good location Facility good and clean

Review 36:Breakfast could be improved. Food choice quite poor but acceptable.

Review 37:Very spacious room, comfy bed and larg e shower. Speedy Wi-Fi. Very clean everywhere and staff very helpful and always ready to assist. Free access to the SPA and gym facilities next to the hotel, which were AMAZING, with stunning pools and cutting-edge equipment.

Review 38:No conditioner. Our room was of rail way side and, as follows, there was very noisy if you open windows ore stuffy if windows are close.

Review 39:Big room. Good breakfast.

Review 40:When we checked in, we realized that we made a mistake and had booked a double room, without asking for an extra bed for our daughter. I was extremely surprised by the best possible reaction of the reception staff- they updated us directly, gave us a free voucher for welcoming drinks while they prepared the new triple room for us, even they called the chef, who brought a chocolate as a small present for my daughter. Honestly, I felt so welcomed and special. Thank you! The hotel is very clean, new, the rooms are big and with very comfortable beds, nice bathroom, excellent breakfast. Highly recommended for people traveling by car!

Review 41:The room I had faced the railway tracks. With the windows closed, nothing could be heard. However, it was too warm in the room and there was no way to cool things down except to open the windows. I didn't have earplugs.

Review 42:It was very close to the train station in Winterthur and within walking distance of the downtown area. The room was clean, well-lit, had English TV channels and room amenities.

Review 43:I like every thing about your hotel. Last Monday, my work told me to try another hotel.. I did! Big mistake!!!! I checked out of that hotel, and booked myself a room back at Banana because I know it satisfies my expections of what I want to have in my stay.

Review 44:Noise from train tracks Gym and facilities are not free - mis sold via website Pillows in room are no use. Need more Need more English channels on TV in room

Review 45:Wifi Friendly staff Location Clean

Review 46:Man on reception when we checked in was very very friendly. Dinner was excellent (red snapper) - well presented and delicious

Review 47:Location and hotel

Review 48:Staff very friendly!!

Review 49:No Air Conditioning. Because of this you have to open the windows and you hear the trains... Very little sleep...

Review 50:Location and staff. Clean hotel.

Review 51:No condition air

Review 52:Quiet and breakfast

Review 53:The hotel staff were very kind and helpful

Review 54:Air condition did not work! Never this hotel again...

Review 55:Wellness access brilliant!

Review 56:Extra bed provided for child, good breakfast buffet, clean, Swiss quality

Review 57:after renovation rooms do have hard wooden floors. Not very smart: My upper neighboor left at 6 in the morning...

Review 58:No free parking (apart from seven places)

Review 59:Very comfortable beds, quiet atmosphere

Review 60:Great Location, Superb Breakfast and Polite staff !

Review 61:Very Good Place Close The Train station. Nice room

Review 62:no air condition, and the noise of railway station

Review 63:cleaning, kindness

Review 64:No 'european' plugs in the room

Review 65:Good breakfast, clean rooms.

Review 66:Location is very far from Zurich.

Review 67:There is a railway station behind the hotel instantly

Review 68:If staying there in summer, rooms are hot and only a noisy fan isprovided. Air conditioned room was an extra 45 euro

Review 69:ALL OF IT!!!!

Review 70:It was noisy because near the train railway .

Review 71:Everything was good. Breakfast was very delicious. Clean room, Location very easy.

Review 72:No complaints

Review 73:Big spacious roomm with good wi-fi nice cool a/c. Breakfast was also delicious

Review 74:Nothing

Review 75:Big room and very comfortable bed. The breakfast buffet was also very good, one of the best I've had for some time.

Review 76:Did not clean the room of my friend that I booked (H.Spyri). Had to ask reception to send household

Review 77:Situated near station

Review 78:noise from Railway meant unable to open windows for long

Review 79:Location friendly staff fast breakfast

Review 80:I have stayed in this hotel for 10days.1. Breakfast :1.1. It serves till 10AM. Hotel staffs don't refill foods after hotel guests ate it. If you come down to restaurant after 8:30AM, you may have limited food(It depends on your luck. If they don't have many guests you can have if not you can't). Hotel staff starts to clean food and table around 9:30AM, so you are forced to hurry up.1.2. At the first morning, there was a gruop travellers from company and they booked several tables in the restaurant for breakfast. So many guests couldn't find their table but none of hotel staff tried to help. It looks like they were not interested in this situation.2. NoiseAs you may aware from many other reviews of this hotel, this hotel is just beside of rail way and it is even curve!! They insisted they have noise proof windows but it is not. I am not very sensitive for sleeping atmosphere but I waked up during sleeping several times.(Windows were closed.) Train doesn't run during night but there was construction work time to time and it makes lots of noise. Finally I asked hotel staff to change my room to the other side of the hotel. When I asked it to evening, hotel staff told me to tell it to their staff in morning time. When I asked it morning time, they told 1. They are full booked in some days till my departure 2. The other side is more expensive. I asked hotel is full booked in whole next week because I will stay around a week more. And they said it is not. I also asked I checked booking.com but there is no option to avoid railway side and they said I may ask it "request section" of the wabsite. Still I don't understand what they are talking about or something wrong in booking.com.3. House KeepingI have used same bed clothes and pillow cover for 10 days.(This is total days I have stayed there) Number of guest(2 persons) never changed during my stay but they often supplied different numbers of towel.

Review 81:1. Location is not bad. Close from train station. 2. Facility is new.

Review 82:noise from train station, even at night, very hot rooms, no air conditioning, not enough towels after having room cleaned, simply too expensive for accommodiation

Review 83:clean

Review 84:Shut the windows if you are at the back of hotel by the train tracks

Review 85:Clean room, great location, good breakfast, free WiFi... perfect for an FC euro away !!!

Review 86:Plastic undersheets on mattress, need to get rooms on front side of hotel, rear-side backs onto railway tracks although the rooms and windows insulate well

Review 87:Big rooms, good quality beds, good breakfast, convenient location

Review 88:I came one evening to have dinner with a workmate. She has her car withher, so we went to park it in the hotel park house. They charge me 10bucks and gave us a parking card for her to get out of the hotelparking. I am your guest ! that was a bummer!it was very warm in my room. No aircon. There was an electric fan, personally, i don't like fans, but i had to use it, as i was not able to sleep the fist night.. apart from that, if I have to work late again, and too tired to come home to Basel, I will use your hotel again. I pay it out of my own pocket, not Zimmer, so I hope, next week, I can avail of that great price I saw on the internet, when I booked my stay last thursday.

Review 89:It was near my office, I got a good rate when I booked the same day.Staffs were heaps friendly, accomodating...I asked for extra pillow as I cannot sleep wiht just one, and voila, I came back from the office, and it was there! I also got to have an ironing board!

Review 90:Bar & restaurant are not a warm welcome. Actually, too sad to describe. Nobody to welcome you in the bar, no music, no nice ambiance. I stayed in my room with a bottle of wine which I bought outside.

Review 91:Rooms are large, clean, no luxury. Food and breakfast are good.

Review 92:If you are a light sleeper ask for a room at the front as there is noise from the station tracks at the back that start pretty early. It did not bother us but might be a problem for some.

Review 93:All the staff were really helpful and friendly. We had various things we needed help with and they were great at solving anything we requested. The reception staff in particular had great patience and a sense of humour. The breakfast were lovely and the restaurant meals were good but pricy-but then Swiss restaurants are pricy! Easy walking distance of the city centre and station-about 10 mins.

Review 94:If you go there and like a (very) quite room, take a room on the 'garden side', not the train station side.

Review 95:very friendly staff, good room (I was on the train track side, but would not mind), I have stayed in various hotels in Switzerland and this is probably the best 'value for money' option I encountered so far.

Review 96:No airconditioning, and noisy. Hotel is beside the train tracks so open windows meant hearing every train go by. Did provide a fan but I expect more from a 4 star hotel.

Review 97:Proximity to railway line in some rooms. The first room had no ac, but upgrade did.

Review 98:The staff were very helpful and when we asked to change rooms away from the railway they found us a room and upgraded our booking free of charge.

Review 99:The toilet door can not be locked. Only some rooms with AC, sometimes they don't switch the AC on.

Review 100:Very good specially for Arabian families. good location , good breakfast, clean and tidy. Staff are very helpful in all meanings. We got also free upgrade.

Review 101:There was no air conditioner in the room. We also had some trouble plugging in our notebook chargers because the holes on the outlets were too tight (of course that's probably standard in Switzerland, so we should have thought of bringing adapters instead of complaining here :)

Review 102:Our room was spacious and clean, equipped with more than what's usually in a hotel room (e.g. sewing kit, mini-kitchen in the cupboard, etc.). The breakfast was of very high quality and had a rich selection. Location is OK - about 30 minutes from Zürich by car - as long as you keep the windows closed, since the train tracks are right next to the hotel.

Review 103:Way over priced ! Most European hotels do not have Airconditioners inthe rooms. This hotel cost me over 300 chf for a family of 4. At nightyou want to sleep and you can not keep the windows open to allow in thecooler air because Trains are constantly passing by.

Review 104:Was close to Technorama - children's Science museum. Would stay inZurich next time for less Money. Hotel is located directly on hugeTrain yard. There must be over 30 different tracks. A train would passevery few minutes. My children loved sitting in the window watching thetrains go by.

Review 105:No airconditioning however I believe this is standard throughout Europe.

Review 106:Easy access from the centre and train station, room size was good, breakfast and the fan.

Review 107:Location is next to rail road and no ac basically you cannot openwindows at night to sleep . it is miserable at night

Review 108:The city is quite and nice and close to zurich except for the rail roadnext to the hotel

Review 109:There were only six places for free parking. We paid to parl our car into hotel's parking. It was a little far from Zurich.

Review 110:The room was very large and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. The stuff was very kind and helpful.

Review 111:The Heat of Business room 203 on the 2nd floor.

Review 112:Excellent staff always very helpful, especially in the dining room at Breakfast. Rooms were excellent size and as clean as one would want. Over our three night stay we occupied 2 different rooms. The first night we had a three bed family room on the 3rd floor which was superb. For the next two nights we were in a double Buisness room on the 2nd floor which was also large and clean but it was far, far too hot and without reason that we could see. Opening the windows was a definite No, No because of the train track but the windows were 4 panes thick so no train noise to complain about.

Review 113:On the website, it said that parking was free on-site. However, there were about only 7 free spaces. Otherwise, guests have to pay CHF 10 per night to park in the garage. Fortunately, management responded splendidly when I reported my ticket lost.

Review 114:Friendly staff, good location, excellent breakfast choice, large room. When I lost my garage ticket, management kindly gave me a free ticket worth CHF 10. That was 'going the extra mile' as the management could have charged me the cost of the ticket. Many thanks! Now see my (-) comment about the garage.

Review 115:Proximity to train station is ideal, however some trains passing by were very loud as was to be expected from looking at the location map.

Review 116:Staff was very friendly. Room was very spacious.

Review 117:Facilities for wheelchair guests should be improved.Choice of menu in the restaurant limited.

Review 118:Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 119:Parking underneath convenient compared to the other city centre hotels.

Review 120:No restaurant after 10pm, not even a sandwitch was available and no suggestions available.

Review 121:Location. Quite rooms, clean.

Review 122:It was perfect.

Review 123:Very nice staff, very clean, had a very quiet sleep, will staydef. Again.

Review 124:spacious rooms

Review 125:No complaints!

Review 126:Very clean room and friendly staff
