Reviews for Gudvangen Fjordtell & Apartments

Review 1:We visited out of season, so the food options were a little limited.

Review 2:The location was simply amazing, with a great view down the fjord. And when it rained, we sat by the big log fire, drinking coffee and just chatting. It felt like a home from home, except our house doesn't have a glass roof with a view of the falls!

Review 3:I reserved a Viking Room more than two months in advance. There was some festival while we were there and all the Viking Rooms were taken. I understand that things happen, but they tried to give me another room without explaining the situation to me. It wasn't until I got to the new room that I realized it was not what I had reserved. Only then did they explain the situation and offered a discount, but I feel they should have been up front about it.

Review 4:The location is good, even if it is the only place in Gudvangen. The breakfast is great as well.

Review 5:Wifi did not work in the room. We had to go to the main lobby in order to use the wifi. The staff was hospitable, but nobody smiled.

Review 6:The location was amazing. The viking room we stayed in had a view of waterfalls.

Review 7:Too expensive for the services offered Th restaurant Hotel is very expensive and not veru good. My advice is to take advantage of the supermarket fuel station

Review 8:Good location for take a ferry Staff friendly Tranquility of the area, very beautiful

Review 9:Really nice place in the middle of "nowhere", beautiful nature, friendly staff, great place for relax for few days, have nothing bad to say.

Review 10:Lack of hiking ways along the road, so at one point one can´t walk into the nature anymore and has to walk in the road. Lack of line bus on Sundays.

Review 11:The landscape around the hotel is amazingly beautiful!! The personal is very friendly; the breakfast buffet, despite not inclused in the price, is really nice and not expensive. It worths! Gudvangen is a piece of paradise!

Review 12:The wifi wasn't the best but good for basics (simple browsing, checking emails)

Review 13:The view was amazing! It was a perfect spot for an overnight stop during our Norway in a Nutshell tour. The food was fantastic!

Review 14:The 3 different people of the staff I spoke with were quite stressed, brusque and terse all the time. All single rooms just have view on the street and not on the waterfall. Prices are quite high and I think it's overrated just because of its wonderful location.

Review 15:The location is really wonderful, and the restaurant has an amazing view on the fjord as well as a delicious menu. Facilities are also good.

Review 16:No wifi un the bedroom

Review 17:Location + we were upgraded to a viking luxury room.rooms are very Nice and cosy with a sky view from the bed. Restaurant is good

Review 18:Staff helped us upgrade our room. The original room was not suitable because of the steep steps down to the shared showers and my wife's temporary incapacity.

Review 19:Next to ferry parking lot, restaurant not good beyond breakfast, and need to travel through tunnels to get to other restaurants, towns

Review 20:Close to naerofjord for kayaking or cruise, good breakfast, quiet comfortable but basic rooms

Review 21:There is nothing to do in Gudvangen. We ended up taking a bus to another location to hike. The food was very expensive. We could not get wifi in our room.

Review 22:It was a pretty location.

Review 23:Kind of a hostel experience; bathroom was down the hall, there were no amenities and the wifi didn't work.

Review 24:Location was beautiful though bus dropped us off at end of road.

Review 25:The price is a bit high for what it is but they are the only hotel overthere so I guess there is nothing much to do.

Review 26:Everything is perfect, the landscape, the rooms, food, even the service was perfect thanks to "Rene" from Spain who made our stay a great experience. Don't forget to eat the salmon is so so good.

Review 27:It is very expensive, but based on location that is to be expected.

Review 28:It is right in Gudvangen, right by the fjord. After all the tourists leave in the evening, it is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the fjord. The room was small, but comfortable. The wifi worked well.

Review 29:Bad wifi

Review 30:We were upgraded, so it is difficult to say anything about value-for-money. But the hotel is as central and close to the waterfront as you can possibly get in Gudvangen, with all the advantages and disadvantages of that (look out the window in the morning and you stare right into the faces of fifteen (other) tourists.) Friendly staff.

Review 31:The personel was not welcoming at all, quite rude attitud when we asked for information about buses to bergen. (We didnt get the info at all) thy said we would have to look in internet. BUT... Wifi didn't work in our room. We where in the "low budget building": there was two toilets and 2 showers for about 10 rooms. Toilets were not clean in the morning. Door and windows didn't close well so you get all the trafic noise of big tracks going to the ferry. When you are treated well it doesn't hurt much to pay anythig but it really hurt spendig 80 euros for that room. I would have rather stayed in the camping or back in flam. Gudvangen is a place for lots of groups of turist, it is Not a town itself. There is only the restaurant of the hotel and a grossery store in gas station. No other options. No cooking facilities either. Anyway, i would never go back there or recommend anyone to go to this hotel unless you can pay for the expensive rooms in the nice building.

Review 32:That you go out of te hotel and you are in a beautifull place.

Review 33:Internet was not working. Owner didn't care too much. Everyone was complaining. There was an unexpected fire in the tunnel connecting Flam which messed up everyone's plan and people needed internet to figure out the options. Staff was not very helpful when asked questions about the area/routes Breakfast was very very mediocre

Review 34:location is decent

Review 35:it is in the perfect location - right at the front of the water in the stunning fjord. our viking themed room was really cosy and loved the skyline window - we could see a clifftop waterfall from our pillow. Helpful staff and lovely food for both dinner and breakfast.

Review 36:Wi-fi was only in the hall, not in the rooms. Most of people couldn't connect to it and they couldn't figure out why.

Review 37:It is a Motel with essential rooms but clean and cozy. Breakfast was good with a fair variety of food. The position is very beautiful and convenient.

Review 38:Wi fi didn't work but we didn't care.

Review 39:Magnificent location with a 2000 foot mountain view with four waterfalls. Delicious salmon for dinner and breakfast don't miss the bacon! Wonderful air and water. Charming decor and typically courteous staff as is everywhere in norway. Reasonable cost as well.

Review 40:Poor bathroom with tiny washbasin, no hangers for towels. WiFi not functioned even in the restaurant.

Review 41:Amazing location, waterfalls everywhere. Good starting point for further activities. Helpful staff, nice view from restaurant.

Review 42:There was no wifi in the room and the wifi in the common area never worked. The breakfast was OK except that the scrambled eggs were way too salty and there was only one waffle maker that was in constant use. Also, a mini refrigerator and microwave in the room would be nice.

Review 43:The location was nice and the scenery was amazing.

Review 44:the wifi was only available at the reception and not in the room, which was a bit inconvenient.

Review 45:the location was great, just near the fjord and the roof of the lovely cottage was glass through which you can see the stars.. it was a very lovely and comfortable hotel..

Review 46:Kitchen wasn't clean when we arrived but they took car of itimmediately when notified.

Review 47:Location, in the middle of nowhere so bring your own snacks/liquoretc but beautiful!

Review 48:Wifi - not available in the bedrooms but only in the restaurant/bar. Even in these areas the connection was poor and the staff seemed to know about the problems. Other reviewers have commented on this for a few months so it isn't acceptable that the wifi still doesn't work. Something else that others have commented on is the skylight windows in the Viking rooms. As it doesn't get fully dark in early July these windows could be a problem for some people - it would be good if there was a blind that could be pulled over the skylight. Not a problem for us but some people will find this a problem.

Review 49:The skylight windows!

Review 50:If there is wifi in the room, it will be much better, on the other hand you are closer to the nature

Review 51:It is a quite nice place in the middle of nowhere.

Review 52:1.

Review 54:For the price they charge per night, some carpets could be added near beds, shampoo in the bathroom, and richer breakfast. Also, wi-fi should be improved.ì

Review 55:The hotel has a very good location: it is near the quay, our room was facing the river and the rock with waterfalls. The room was spacious, clean, all in wood. The beds were very comfortable. Generally, little to complain of.

Review 56:It is basic, no frills. Given the location, our hut could have benefited from more inspiring decor. Interior was slightly dated.

Review 57:Location is amazing. Beds are large and comfortable. Hut is big and has a lovely patio and easy parking.

Review 58:The Viking rooms have a skylight window, which is not good for sleeping during the summer. It is dark for only 4 hours of the night, so you need an eye mask.

Review 59:This is a great place to stay as an alternative to touristy Flam. It. Is in a beautiful location with a great restaurant that offers outstanding view of the fjord. The Viking dinner was very good.; I had the venison stew and my husband had the reindeer. The breakfast is also very good. The rooms were basic, but comfortable, the WIFI was not working during our 2 night stay.

Review 60:Tourist trap. Buses loaded with tourists coming and going. Fake Viking attire of the premises. The restaurant has glass windows that clearly need to be replaced. The wi-fi did not work at all.

Review 61:The place is located exactly where we needed to go

Review 62:WiFi is available only in public areas and sometimes does't work.

Review 63:Fantastic place to stay on Naeroyfjord. Gudvangen is more quiet than Flam. Viking rooms with glass ceiling put you in unforgettable atmosphere of being one-by-one with nature.

Review 64:Our economy room was located in the apartment building. Shared facilities meant ten rooms shared two toilets and one shower with a working lock. Another toilet had a door that had been torn open by someone/thing. The curtains in the room did not cover the width of the window.

Review 65:The location is breathtaking, but it is also the terminus of the ferry/bus system. Bus and boatloads of tourists arrive and depart regularly. The meals available at the restaurant were a good value for the area.

Review 66:perhaps more hangers or hooks / pegs for hanging up clothes would be helpful as there isn't any wardrobe or clothes rack in the room nor any towel rail in the bathroom

Review 67:location, view, friendliness of staff

Review 68:Accommodations were pricey for the room, but it did slept 6 comfortablyand again, their landscape can't be beat.

Review 69:Location! Not realizing the historical significance of this particulararea, we booked anyway. It is the most beautiful spot in the Fjord. Wecounted 21 waterfalls within our panoramic view. Just incredible! Tolearn the history of this fjord, I recommend the Fjord Safari boat tour.

Review 70:We came off the ferry from Kaupanger, but then struggled to find the hotel as there are no signs to it from that direction. It is right by the ferry dock, but the sign is low and normally obscured by vehicles. Also, most of the apartments are 100 metres away past the 6 lanes for the ferry (a problem in the rain) and there is not very good parking near to them. The entrance to the low, grass-covered hotel reception is via the souvenir shop and bar, which is rather confusing. Finally, we had to sit only at certain tables, due to having to share restaurant with large tour groups.

Review 71:lovely views of fjord and free-fall waterfalls

Review 72:We didn't know in advance that they do a huge tour bus business, especially as a lunch stop. We are quiet, non-tourist types and found the influx of people every day was not enjoyable. Free wifi was not obtainable on our devices, even in the main building. Our room was clean, but very dated.

Review 73:The reason to stay here is the location. On the water and surrounded by mountains and waterfalls. We had a family apartment and it was clean and comfortable. Free breakfast was very good, but dinner we purchased was excellent.

Review 74:Bathroom was cold, unlike other Norwegian hotels, breakfast had the least and worst selection, and food is rarely refilled when empty. A guy at reception told me a wrong car ferry time, so my schedule got screwed. When I tried to rearrange my schedule at reception, an old guy talked in a rude and arrogant manner without an apology. Wi-fi didn't work, even at common area. They said iphone sometimes had connection problems. So I tried with gallaxy, didn't work either.

Review 75:Location was excellent.

Review 76:We started at the Gudvangen Fjordtel because we booked a trip with Nordic Adventures. Location was very convenient - just a walk over the bridge to the outfitter. We stayed in the Viking room which was spacious and clean. Of you're staying during the summer months be site to bring sleeping mask as the room has a skylight but there are no blinds on the skylight. Great customer service.

Review 77:No amenities, air conditioner, not even a chair in the room. Shower water went all over the bathroom floor. Too many tour buses during the day. At least 10 buses in the lot and the restaurant caters to the tours. Once the buses leave, the dinners are good and quiet. Oddly the restaurant doesn't allow you to sit near the window with a view as they pre-set tables. Even though no one is there, you don't get a window seat.

Review 78:Good food and room was clean but very small.

Review 79:No wifi in Viking rooms. Note the hotel restaurant is the only place to eat in the village, but there is a little shop in the service station.

Review 80:First night I stayed the budget rooms with shared bathroom which is in a separate house down the road from the hotel. Lovely room and bathroom facilities were fine ( but you did need to go down a level to get to them). Also a free washer/ dryer in the house which was very handy. Second stay I got a free upgrade to a Viking room, which was very kitsch, but was huge and lovely views out the skylight.

Review 81:There is no small fridges in the rooms and wireless is available only in the restaurant. But all in all it was a great stay and I would go there again.

Review 82:If you go there outside of the peak season, they likely upgrade your room for free to a great room where you can watch the mountains and waterfalls from your bed :)

Review 83:I thought I would get a room in the building shown in the picture fortheir site-but I was about 100m or more down the way in a new groupingof what can only be called as connected cabins. I was in the second fromthe farthest away--with no view whatsoever of anything, as there wasanother row of 'cabins' directly in front of mine on the river. So be sure to get 1-14--they are the cute rooms near the lodge. No tv,no internet in the rooms. Had to walk over to lodge which, had I been inany of #1-14, would have been an easy walk. Small kitchen but only smallrefrigerator and hotplates. No toaster, microwave or oven.

Review 84:The location--steps away from getting off the boat from the Fjordcruise. I saw the weary look on the other travelers who were continuingon to Voss and beyond--and I was very relieved to be done for the day.The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful--and I appreciatedher hospitality. Dining room staff as well. Gas station across thelittle bridge had a mini grocery store for basic items...other thanthat, nothing around. Internet was only available in the lodge area butthey had a roaring fire and comfy chairs. Had refrigerators in the room.

Review 85:The staff was friendly and they upgraded the room since there were better rooms available, without further charge. The location was really good for relaxation.

Review 86:The superbly hand carved Viking furniture, beds, and interior designs of the entire marina, cafe & gift shop, and round yurt style building for the guest rooms was charming, and the views of the Fiords were spectacular. Food was outstanding prepared by the owner himself. I was shuttled from the bus stop to the hotel, and dropped off at the bus stop again when I left because the owner was notified beforehand that I was handicapped and traveling alone and would need transportation and some help with luggage, and especially through the winter snow. I want to stay there again in the springtime or summer. I was the only guest the night I stayed there this winter. The Ferry boat leaving from Gudvangen Fiordtell to Flam was a great cruise, and the Fiords and towns we passed and stopped at briefly were picturesque and beautiful. I recommend staying overnight in both towns if you have the time.

Review 87:wifi is only available in the reception hall and there is no wifi connection in the room.

Review 88:our room has been upgraded without any charges and the room is lovely and clean !

Review 89:Room was basic, twin beds, only one reading lamp, not radio or tv, towels small and thin. Didn't expect place to be so sparten.

Review 90:Not much, place was clean. Breakfast and evening meal was good.

Review 91:Right on the edge of the stunning fjord, next to ferries and buses which will take you anywhere. The views alone make this place worth staying. The viking room is quite striking, very comfortable, and with views of the sky at night. Reception of the hotel is a cafe/restaurant/gift shop where prices are obviously Norwegian levels... The room itself quite cheap. Nice than bigger hotels. Highly recommended.

Review 92:We had room right st entrance to the bridge do during the day there is a lot of foot traffic.

Review 93:I liked the walk ability. Small bridge to little grocery where you can buy reasonable sandwich fixings. We enjoyed the skylight views of the waterfalls.

Review 94:If wifi was available in the room then it would be perfect. That's the only thing.

Review 95:Like the location of the hotel, and the room was nice. Staff were nice. The common area was also very comfortable to stay, and you can use wifi there. Anyway, I like this hotel a lot, Gudvangen was cold at the time when I was there, but it was very warm in the room.

Review 96:bathroom very very simple (but ok and clean) broken bedlamp that caused a total electrical collapse in my room and bathroom. the poor only girl on duty and working at 11pm had to wake up other clients from hotel to get to the mane electrical panel situated in their room (the only way!), and be able to switch back on the mane fuse of my room, so i could have the electricity back on. not ideal to hide main electrical panels in guest rooms!!! didn't take long thow and didn't affect the overall great experience of staying in that fjord "corner"

Review 97:great location very nice and helpfull staff roofwindow allowing to see the cascades (no stars, due to bad weather)

Review 98:the front desk guy , he is not friendly , rush in ending the question we ask , not clear information on the bus , there are different companies ran the buses , he didn't tell clear due to the inpatience . and this is a dog friendly hotel , he told me my little dog can't even enter the recepition and salon area .. but I actually saw others brings their big dog rest in the salon area and it was allowed , beside this is the hotel accept the dog , at least , the lobby salon area should allow. also there is no hair dayer in the room , have to walk out in the cold night to ask for the dyer , i think a hair dyer is the basic equiment that this class of the hotel should have it in the room .

Review 99:the location and the view , and the girl staffs there , they are very nice and thoughtful .

Review 100:This place is a MAJOR coach stop - the rooms are on the edge of a huge ferry/coach parking lot and the restaurant feeds hundreds of tourists. Viking themed room kinda tired, with Formica-paneled bathroom with plastic shower curtain. However, very few alternative places to stay on this route, and this place is OK if you know what to expect. Like all Norway, expensive.

Review 101:Wonderful location but...

Review 102:Please refund me the duplicated amount of GBP 137.80. Your hotel withthrowed it from my debit card and also one of my credit card. I found it out last week and spoke to your front desk but you haven't retracted it.

Review 103:Good location

Review 104:we spent a night here after riding the flam railway. nice people, and it was good to be able to cook in the room. we travelled with a child and since there's not much to do there we took the bus to Voss the next day.

Review 105:The hotel was split into different buildings, so where I was staying was not what was advertised on the website. My building had free WiFi access while others did not, so it was okay, but not what I was expecting. The walls were very thin so I could hear adjoining rooms' conversations and was woken up early one morning by people getting ready for the day.

Review 106:I absolutely loved the location of this hotel. It was surrounded by towering mountains with cascading waterfalls and was right next to the fjord. It was less than a two minute walk to a kayaking base and there were plenty of trails nearby.

Review 107:The room was shabby, the kitchen can hardly be called a kitchen, it was a real challenge trying to produce some kind of a meal in this place. Reception was 100 meter walk in the rain and internet access was only available there and when we got there it did not work. Breakfast was OK but they literally took the food away at 10:00 (breakfast ends at 10:00) right our of my hand. Comparing the prices we paid in other places this place is totally not worth it. Will not return.

Review 108:After going to the reception to let them know we need more kitchen equipment for cooking they were helpful and provided us with what we need from the restaurant.

Review 109:No drawer/shelf space in room and no place to put anything in bathroom, only one chair. Quite overpriced for what they furnish, but if you want to stay in this area, you have no choice.

Review 110:Location, restaurant, very kind and helpful staff

Review 111:No complaints.

Review 112:I just loved our room; nice warm bedding, easy access to bathroom and showers. It's so nice being in a small village. If you like antiques, you'll like this place. It feels like home.

Review 113:Accommodation not as described (more basic) Heavily stained chairs and curtains Specific room location was overlooking a coach parking area Requested discount but refused as room (with 4 beds although 2 requested) was same price as presumably our booked 2 bed room Highly overpriced

Review 114:Gudvangen itself if a lovely location

Review 115:The family room for 6 people is economical. There isn't a lot of space but it's enough for a couple of nights and the bunk beds are reasonably comfortable. The small hallway is useful for umbrellas, wet coats and bags. It's quiet at night and breakfast is good. Lots of parking space and handy for catching the ferry to Flam. The waterfalls are impressive.

Review 116:We think the space could be used better, but we slept so well there. All six of us. Loved the back porch and the proximity to everything.

Review 117:This was one of our favorite hotels from our entire Norwegian experience. The location is absolutely ideal. There were no frills, but there were none necessary. We slept very well in the cozy family apartment.

Review 118:Ola is so nice and helpful. He offers us a free ride to the other hotel(I booked another one as there is only one left due to peak season) when he is still at work. Highly recommended. My family members who stayed here thought the breakfast is fantastic. Room is very clean and quiet.

Review 119:Not much to do in Gudvangen itself but with the wilderness around you, that's ok!

Review 120:We stayed in a Viking themed room and loved it. The beds were extremely comfortable. There was no TV in the room which made staring at the magnificent fjords that much more inviting. Beautiful wooden artwork in the rooms and an overall feeling of peacefulness made this one of the best nights on our trip.

Review 121:The breakfast meal was a disappointment.

Review 122:We were upgraded to the viking room which was amazing. Had a beautiful view of waterfalls and mountains through our sky window. Though it would be best to have something to cover your eyes during the summer when the sun doesnt go down. We enjoyed the bar with friendly staff and patrons.

Review 123:Good service, hospitable staff. Beautiful and unique place. We enjoyed our stay!

Review 124:Too short a stay.

Review 125:Surroundings.

Review 126:Buffet breakfast was lack luster.

Review 127:Management upgraded us to a room with view of waterfall and en suite bathroom

Review 128:Room could have been cleaned better. Dust on lamps and bed side tables.

Review 129:The location is wonderful at the Nærøyfjord. Beautiful view from restaurant!

Review 130:That I couldn't stay longer

Review 131:Gudvangen...best place on earth. How could you have a crook time there?

Review 132:Wifi didn't work

Review 133:Heating in some rooms was not working.

Review 134:Nice location with beautiful scenery, very spacious family apartment.

Review 135:staff

Review 136:location

Review 137:Few staff members were rude....

Review 138:Location was excellent
