Reviews for Hotel Alpenrose Wengen
Review 1:Staff were fantastic ! Good food and nothing was a hassle at all. Would highly recommend. Free taxi service whenever you wanted dropped off at the ski lift or collected from the train. Five course evening dinner ! Lovely and well presented.
Review 2:Lovely hotel, typical Swiss mountain style with lots of wood, a nice common area on the ground floor with a fireplace and a bar. The breakfast and evening meals were included with our reservation and the food was quite good. Every member of staff was lovely. An altogether fantastic hotel.
Review 3:Wonderful family run hotel with the most amazing views! They made us feel right at home. The service was great, we felt like part of the family. We enjoyed the half board plan with breakfast and dinner. The food was delisous and the views from the dinning room were breathtaking. We cannot wait to return to Wengen and The Alpenrose!
Review 4:Very nice service! We stayed in the apartment with two rooms and one living room it was amazing to have such beautiful balcony view and just feel like staying at home! And they served different menu every night for the dinner. It worth the money staying in such comfortable hotel.
Review 5:Rooms are just OK, bed is hard, bath is rooms best feature. Quality of food is below average. This property is not a good value.
Review 6:Great location and grounds.
Review 7:Very comfortable. Five course meal for CHF 20. We ate right in town the first night, food was just ok, waiter was surly and we paid CHF 90! Staff is very professional. (There in one waiter who sounds like Lawrence Welk and you can hear him all over the dining room.)
Review 8:Nothing. Except I had to leave
Review 9:Everything. The room was very comfortable and clean and I opened my window to the majestic Swiss Alps. The food was excellent. Believe me you did not go away hungry. I loved the family dog and the fact they were there at any moment to transfer you to where you needed to be. They called my next hotel for me Nd arrange everything online for me. I did nothing but eat a great breakfast and dinner and hiked an amazingly beautiful land of green and white mountains. Listening to cows with bells. Yes. True fairy tale place is the Alpenrose. I will be returning next year for sure !!
Review 10:The host family were very welcoming and looked after us very well. The meals, although set menus, were of a high standard and excellent value for money.
Review 11:nothing
Review 12:We were greeted by a gracious, friendly hostess who made us feel right at home. The hotel had the feeling of an Alpine Inn nestled in the heart of the alps. The view from our balcony was unbelievable! The half-board,(means a five course dinner is included in the price) was wonderfully prepared and a nice touch to a busy day in the Alps.
Review 13:Location a bit far from the train station, but the hotel offered a small pick up van which was really helpful. There's no kettle/tea facility in the room.
Review 14:The staffs were really nice.
Review 15:No fans or a/c, which was only a challenge due to extremely hot weather when we visited in August (30C+)
Review 16:Great hotel in a beautiful town in the Alps. Staff are very friendly, breakfast and dinner (for only SF20 for 5 courses!) are excellent and the views are amazing. Sitting at the tables and chairs outside the hotel and watching the sunset colours on the snow-covered mountains was incredible. South facing balconies also provide the same views.
Review 17:Poor wine selection & expensive. One waiter pushed a bottle of local wine over my objection that I only wanted a small glass.
Review 18:Stunning location: view & quiet. Excellent staff, especially Ursula. Really good, fresh, close-to-the-earth food. Great breakfasts & dinners. Comfortable room & cozy sitting areas for after dinner conversation or card games. Also wonderful outdoor garden area under trees overlooking Lauterbrunnen for reclining with tea or drinks before dinner.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:Charming uniquely Swiss hotel. The half board option is FANTASTIC. All the meals were very good. The ladies on reception wonderfully helpful with suggesting walks, train timetables etc. The staff are all keen to make sure that you are well looked after and that you have a happy stay. Thanks to the men who cheerfully drove us up to the station in the shuttle bus each morning. Wengen is set amongst some breath-takingly beautiful scenery. Staying at the Alpenrose really made for a wonderful holiday.
Review 21:Stayed during a heat wave and room without AC was uncomfortable.
Review 22:Spectacular view from front lawn. Dinner at 20 SF a great value. Breakfast veery good.
Review 23:The hotel was perfect in every way, located in one of the most beautiful tranquil places I have ever been. Heaven on earth. The food was outstanding and the owners & staff were lovely people and made our stay so very special.
Review 24:A micro wave oven and self laundering facilities will be great pluses
Review 25:The breathtaking view greeting us each morning. Excellent breakfast - loved the croissant and breads. Comfortable apartment especially the bed! Excellent base from which to travel out to the various attractions. Excellent host - thank you to Ursula and her team of dedicated staff.
Review 26:Lovely hiking & relaxing stay, we enjoyed the facilities in our room (balcony and the view) and the beds were comfortable. We opted for half-board and the food was very good quality with lots of options. There is a shuttle to take you to/from the train station if needed.
Review 27:Nothing!
Review 28:Great welcome, so kind on arrival - picked up at Wengen station. Food lovely, staff in restaurant helpful and friendly - and funny. Owners so keen to ensure we were comfortable. We'll be back.
Review 29:If I had to pick a negative would just be pillows and low ceilings but may not be like this in entire hotel. Also forgot to ask for a change of pillows as I know they would have been happy to help me.
Review 30:Loved receiving such a warm welcome and the place felt like home my whole four days. So much to do in the area and coming back to a five course meal with silver service was wonderful . So affordable. From snow on my arrival to beautiful sunshine the rest of my stay made for a magical trip that gave me best of both worlds . Wengen and its area are gorgeous and I believe I choose the best it had to offer. Also loved the history of the hotel and that it is still in same hands generations later.
Review 31:Uphill walk to station okay in summer, less so in winter, though transport is available. Lack of Tea and coffee making in room. Bar area a bit dull. Breakfast lacked variety, especially cooked and cold meats(ham only). Lovely breads though.
Review 32:Helpful, friendly staff. Evening meal 5 sometimes 6 courses, excellent quality, so limited choice for main was never a problem. Quiet location with great view, especially with a valley facing room. Good size rooms.
Review 33:It was a beautiful experience to stay at the Alpenrose. The staff is delightful and caring, the cozy hotel rooms and common spaces are beautiful. The view from our balcony was stunning. Everything was exactly as advertised and in the images online. You won't be disappointed!
Review 34:Shower pressure turns weaker when turning water to higher temperature.
Review 35:Great hospitality; nice and calm location away from main street with a panoramic view to the mountains and falls; cleaniness; half board option; transfer to/from train station; and a taste of wooden alpine chalet!
Review 36:The hosts are the nicest and most accommodating. We had an early departure by train before breakfast was open the last day and the chef prepared breakfast boxes for the train for all of us the night before, with sandwiches, fruit, juice & chocolate. It was perfect on our ride to Italy. Comfortable rooms, great showers compared to most in Europe. Wonderful lounge area with couches for reading.
Review 37:The 5 course dinners were delicious and very reasonably priced. We finally felt we got value for money in Switzerland. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.
Review 38:Their coffee was not great. I am not sure if it was the brand or their coffee machine but the coffee could have definitely been of better quality (I am a coffee lover). Also, the wine by the glass was only Swiss and I much prefer french or italian wines.
Review 39:The hotel is at a great location, away from the main street and the crowd with absolutely splendid views. I cannot imagine a better location in Wengen. The hotel is furnished in typical Alpen style, extremely clean and our room was an average size. The room, the staff, the service and the food were excellent. We had the half board package, which I highly recommend. They had a 5 course dinner, which was a well thought menu with some local and international dishes.
Review 40:Nothing.
Review 41:Everything. From the location to the staff to the food to the room the Alpenrose is wonderful. It is not inexpensive but this is Switzerland and quality comes at a premium. We certainly recommend a room with the south view of the Alps and the waterfalls above Lauterbrunnen. Stunning. Guests will not be disappointed here. We will go back.
Review 42:If we anything to add, it would be the hike uphill to get to the main street of the town and the train station but the hotel will drive you there if you want/need that transportation. We just chose to walk most of the time.
Review 43:We enjoyed everything at the Hotel Alpenrose! It is located somewhat on the outskirts of the town and we had a room with a little balcony so enjoyed the wonderful views. The Staff were welcoming and always available to answer questions. We were upgraded to a larger room which we enjoyed for the 3 days we were there. They served a great breakfast every morning as part of the fare with bacon, eggs, yogurt, muesli, fruit, cheese and variety of breads and pastries. There was a delicious 4-course meal with a limited menu available each night for 25 Swiss francs if you didn't feel like going back into town. My husband enjoyed it so much we ate there every night. They will drive you up into the town if you prefer not to make the hike up the hill. We were greeted on our last morning by the melody of cow bells as the cows were led right in front of the hotel from the Alps down to the lower meadows for the winter.
Review 44:Everything!! Especially a beatiful view around the hotel. Really kind and professional staff, the perfect location, good food, and clean and comfortable facilities.
Review 45:Staff very helpful. Owners know the area well. 5-course dinner in the hotel after long mountain walks. Package with half-board and Jungfraubahn pass is good value
Review 46:Nothing that I would change.
Review 47:Great family run place with history. The owners are on hand to attend to every little detail. That's what makes this place special and just like coming home every evening after a hike or trail or excursion. Wish I had stayed longer. Dinner fabulous. And the chef's festival was an added bonus. Am coming back
Review 48:Everything was wonderful. You feel at home the moment you check in. Staff, food, cozy room and a fantastic view make this a perfect vacation spot. Can't wait until we can return..
Review 49:1. The bed. I've requested one large double bed prior to my arrival. They replied that all their southfacing double rooms had two single beds put together like one double bed. But still, there were a bit of gaps between the beds and we tried to push them closed together but still they were not closed enough. Could still feel the gap if we lied on the middle of the bed. And the gap was movable. So we gave up in the end and just sleep on one each side of the bed. (Quite a downer for honeymoon couple)2. No iron in the room. They said that they provided an iron service for all the guests, in which we had to give them the clothes and they would iron them for us. But they said it might took them two days to iron everything. We didn't have two days. Only knew about the service the morning that I want to wear the unironed clothes. Ended up wearing that for the rest of my stay. But no one noticed, except for myself..so no big of a deal.
Review 50:1. Communicated with Alpenrose staffs through e-mails prior to my arrival on how to get to Wengen (which airport, trains etc) and always received instant replies from them. Thumbs up for that!2. Most beautiful view of the mountain (room with balcony). The view was beyond my expectation and so breathtaking. Definitely one of the best view I've encountered. 3. During breakfast, they always served this one croissant which I think was one of best that I've tasted in Europe. So crispy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. (Definitely need to include this point in my review lol) 4. Most of the guests were elderly couples. So it felt nice and quite. Suitable for honeymooners. 5. The hotel location was exactly like in the description. Car free resort village. Close to train station and Wengen town. Very convenient. 6. Friendly and helpful staffs. Especially the owner or the one of the owner's daughter/granddaughter. Walked me out of the hotel herself on my departure day. 7. Overall- BEAUTIFUL STAY.
Review 51:Nothing much, except that he room we were first assigned, while on the 4th floor, with really lovely views on mountains and valley, was far too small, and it was difficult to get around in there without bumping into something. But I asked for a bigger room and liked the one they found for us. Room 101, a nice corner room, still with beautiful views. But I think we would have been unhappy in the first room if a change had not been possible.
Review 52:This family owned and operated hotel is a very welcoming place. The views from the balcony rooms of the mountains and the Lauterbrunnen valley are superb. The included breakfast is excellent, and you can get the evening 5-course dinner for CHF 25-, a bargain in Wengen. They have a very good chef, so the food is consistently good, and the service from the well-trained staff in the restaurant is genteel, quietly efficient and friendly. The hotel has 5 lounges, well furnished with comfortable chairs and settees and tables, so that guests have somewhere outside of their rooms to congregate, get to know each other and/or just enjoy a good book. The location , down a steep hill from the railway station, could have been a liability, but they solve that by always being willing to shuttle guests up and down. That helped us a lot. We loved our 11-day stay at the Alpenrose, and would come back again.
Review 53:Excellent staff and nice hotel for a 3 star rating. You can feel the warmth of the place and people are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it very very much.
Review 54:The chief was not the most friendly and made us feel uncomfortable at times.
Review 55:Our room was small but had an incredible view. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and kind.
Review 56:Shower curtain didn't contain water from shower resulting in water all over the place each time I showered.
Review 57:Lovely family hotel. Excellent dinners in restaurant. Nice and quiet location.
Review 58:As I'm not a bed-wetter, I didn't appreciate the plastic mattress-protector. Every night I would wake up about 0130 sweaty from the heat of my body captured and reflected by the plastic. Light bulbs were dim. Energy and cost saving would be helped much more by usIng LED light bulbs than dim filament bulbs. The algorithm for assigning tables in the dining room: I spent the first few days in the dimmest region of a none too light dining room. Other tables in this area had lamps on them. I'm not sure what contribution travelling alone makes in the algorithm. When I asked for a lamp on the table and/or to be moved I was met by what appeared to be incomprehension. Management appeared to me to be uninterested, until after I paid. A real contrast with the staff! The rigmarole needed to get connected to the wifi network.
Review 59:Staff were great: friendly, happy to be helpful. Balcony and chairs on it. The room. View - mountain and valley. The fact that after some days I did get promoted in the dining room to a table closer to the windows (see 'cons'). That the wifi was free! The location within Wengen was a very good one.
Review 60:Nothing at all!!
Review 61:The hotel is close enough to the train station but remains peaceful and quiet. Although the walk to the station is slightly uphill, it is manageable. They also provide free shuttle service to and fro for check-in/out. The hotel has been beautifuly refurnished bit by bit and we were lucky to get a relatively newly refurnished room which was comfortable and facing the amazing mountains. After a long day of hiking, we could still enjoy tea and biscuits on the balcony while taking in the amazing view. Alternatively, sit at the well-decorated lounge. The half board package was an excellent deal. I loved the wide variety of bread at breakfast. The dinner menu changes everyday and the quality is excellent! Every staff is friendly and offers great service.
Review 62:None
Review 63:- Very friendly and helpful staff- Excellent location if you want to visit top of Europe - Breathtaking views - Perfect place if you want to chill out
Review 64:During check out the elderly gentlemen at the reception (was he the owner?) came out very rude and literally shouted while I wanted to clarify the additional charges to my bill. Some of his remarks were made in very bad taste. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to those with children.
Review 65:Location, the staff at the dining room.
Review 66:Accommodations in the room are OK...but we didn't need anything superior because we were out and about from 8 AM to 6 PM.
Review 67:The breakfast is included and excellent. A double bonus is the wonderful five-course meal for $25 francs a person. We never went out for dinner. And the views around the hotel are beathtaking.
Review 68:Our last night we couldn't sleep because the people above us stomped around all night and were very loud. Not hotel's fault but we could really hear every footstep.
Review 69:Location was beautiful. Room was clean and comfortable. Views from room were amazing. Restaurant was very good.
Review 70:First class hotel - the room, the view, the dining experience. A great location for seeing some of the most spectactular ALPs mountain areas and doing a wide range of day hikes.
Review 71:A team of amazing staff, warm welcome and served with heart. Breakfast is good that makes a good start of the day. Dinner is not to be missed, far exceed the value of CF25, very impressed of the quality and service. View is good. We set our camera at the balcony and took spectacular time lapse for the movement of clouds along the valley, truly stunning indeed. Surely you will not regret to spend the extra for a balcony room. Even without a balcony, you can enjoy the spectacular view at the garden.
Review 72:Location stunning, owners and staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner very evening very good, perhaps five courses too many but then you don't have to eat them all.
Review 73:Too far down the hill from train station. There is a car that can take you up the hill if desired..
Review 74:Owners really care! Food excellent! Worth eating dinner at the hotel. Great chef.
Review 75:i love this hotel so much. the price is very reasonal.the breakfast and dinner is so good!room is clean and big.

Review 98:Spectacular views. The price is high but from our 2 bedroom apartment the view was unbelievable.
Review 99:The service from reception is a bit too slow...
Review 100:The supplementary 5-course dinner is provided at a low charge but high quality.
