Reviews for Black Rooster Guesthouse
Review 1:Booked two separate rooms and was asked if we wanted the apartment instead. Glad we took the latter, as this was modern, clean and comfortable. A few hairs in the tub were a little bit off-putting, but otherwise a spacious and relaxing space.
Review 2:Very slow Wifi, as soon as many people are using it you can forget it (between 5pm ans 10pm). The shared kitchen is ok, but the towels are awful. Once they lay on the floor, once they are humid all together lysomeweher - and you have to wash and dry the dishes. Not hygienic!
Review 3:When they were there, the staff was very helpful. But most of the time you have to call, then they will appear.
Review 4:silly quirks like medicine cabinet forward over sink so you cant lean forward to wash, microwave too low over the stove. No srceen in front window. Obviously a home built suite. No elevator
Review 5:Good value for guys on a fishing trip, not fancy
Review 6:Went to plug into the power outlet and wiring looked very dodgy
Review 7:Late check in after ferry from Port Hardy. Good check out time. Room suited our needs for a one night, late arrival. Price was good.
Review 8:The first family room allocated was on the basement level. We arrived to discover a burst water pipe in the adjacent room with water leaking under the floor carpets but at 11PM there wasn't much could be done. We were quickly allocated a new room in the adjacent appartment building which was of a very good standard and saved the day/night!
Review 9:we arrived late after a few delays en route from Hyder/Stewart. It wasnt a problem, the staff member on duty was polite and helpful. The rooms we had werent exactly spaceous but comfortable and clean and fitted the bill.
Review 10:it is a wooden building and had to put up with people stomping across the floor repeatedly above me which is particularly annoying in the early hours of the morning. Also had to listen to the noise of water going through the pipes every time someone above or next door flushed the loo or used the shower. Irritating!
Review 11:Very clean and comfortable room. Secure. Kitchen facilities available and tea and coffee. Easy walking distance to town and cow bay.
Review 12:Error at checkin. Our room was actually allocated to someone else and our sleep was disturbed at midnight when the night clerk opened our door without knocking.
Review 13:The stairs...carrying luggage~ The lady at the front desk was hard to understand and she seemed confused...
Review 14:The view~The balcony~ Our room was awesome and we were pleased to share the common area with friends..however it would have been awkward if we had to share with strangers~
Review 15:Our room was upstairs in the old house. The stairs were challenging with our bags. I found the room too small for two people. We were rather crowded.
Review 16:The bed was clean and comfortable enough and the windows opened to let in the cooler night air.
Review 17:we had a 2 bedroom apartment, very nicely set up, very clean. We had a truck and 24' boat with us and they made sure the parking along side of the building was available for us every night. Very helpful staff.
Review 18:Very nicely decorated place. Very clean. Great idea to have a fully equipped kitchen at the disposal of the guests. Welcoming staff. Very close to downtown.
Review 19:If I had a complaint, I'd say the road was a bit noisy, but quieted down as the night went on. I don't think the room had air-conditioning, but a fan was supplied. I know PR doesn't get many hot days, but we were on the edge of one. Can't really blame them for not having air though in this environment....
Review 20:I was looking for something other than the usual main street hotels, and found this place. It is kind of like an old time hotel, modernized. (I believe there are some shared bathrooms, but we had a room with a private bath). Pleasantly surprised with the modern appointments in our room and bath. Staff was very friendly/helpful. As southeast Alaskans, we travel through Prince Rupert often. I have told friends and family to try this place out when passing through. I'll book it again.
Review 21:The woman in the room beside mine was loud. There either needs to be a rigidly enforced 11pm -7am quiet hours policy or the walls need better sound-proofing.
Review 22:I arrived late after a delayed flight and had no trouble checking in after 10pm. The staff was courteous and the facilities were clean and cozy. The bed was comfortable and the location was nice and quiet.
Review 23:Would have liked my own bathmat. Even after vaccuming carpet in room not always clean had to ask for a redo. Noisy other guests that hogged the kitchen for hours on end.
Review 24:Kitchen facilities very good, shared bathrooms were cleaned every day. On request received my own cleaning materials to clean shower before use. Generally very clean. Quiet but central. Beautiful views all around.
Review 25:If Prince Rupert has a rare sunny warm summer day, lack of a/c or at least a fan could be a problem
Review 26:room and bathroom clean; bed comfortable. utilized kitchen for a quick supper thus avoiding another restaurant bill. opening sliding door gave quick cool down for stuffy room--no outside noise caused any problem. Better option than another motel!!
Review 27:we really enjoyed the camaraderie of joining with other people who were staying there from all over the world. There is a common kitchen and living room. We could make our own meal and it was close enough to restaurants as well if you wanted to go out. We could walk from there all over the city of Prince Rupert. It was also clean and well looked after.
Review 28:Expected room to be larger since it was a "family suite"
Review 29:Very clean; great facility for those wanting a full kitchen for cooking meals or an extended stay...large & cozy lobby area for chess, board games, or conversation.
Review 30:Because the building is old, there is a musty smell. My husband has a BIPAP machine & he breathed that in.
Review 31:It was easy to find. The price was within my budget. The room was comfortable & the kitchen user friendly.
Review 32:Had a gross smell, decor was cheap, mismatched and ugly
Review 33:Price was good, clean
Review 34:very tiny shower

Review 37:Queen room with private bathroom was great!!

Review 49:Had to ask for bedding for thr futon which we were paying extra for.
Review 50:Was a comfortable suite for the price
Review 51:The roller blind in my bedroom was a little too small. So people could see in at night.
Review 52:The facilities and room were very nice and comfortable
Review 53:Convenient location. Kitchen facilities. Plenty of space.
Review 54:Strange smell in the building.
Review 55:the front desk clerk spoke very poor english and did not know the area
Review 56:Very comfortable room, once we received the room we booked
Review 57:The security is comforting and the excellent condition of the property suggests that the owners care very much about the comfort of their guests.
Review 58:a little bit problem with second bed - no so cozy

Review 79:My bed looked like someone had slept in it before me.
Review 80:Washer and dry are available
Review 81:The building us a bit tired but overall very comfortable
Review 82:Great kitchen facilities. Let us check in after arriving on ferry at 5am
Review 83:Thin walls - toilet needed repair
Review 84:Clean - nothing fancy but serviceable for a short night stay to catch and early ferry.
Review 85:I arrived late on the ferry from Port Hardy and everything was set up to make things easy. The room was comfortable, good value for price.
Review 86:Nothing.
Review 87:On our arrival front desk upgraded our room which actually costs us less. Nice of them to suggest that and take a cut in their profit. Highly amazing!
Review 88:The property is clean and well maintained, although some of the neighbouring properties are not as well maintained and could use some TLC.
Review 89:The property was clean and spacious, also well maintained. Provided a baby cot at no extra charge. Could not complain about our suite. Close to amenities downtown.
Review 90:The location is a bit off the downtown in a residential area for those that like to be in the centre. But less than a 5 minute walk away, I quite enjoyed being able to see a bit more of the city!
Review 91:Great room and common spaces. A place that felt like home for the days I was there. Highly recommend if you are visiting Prince Rupert.
Review 92:Price in off-season for twin room/shared bathroom too high. Is 60, should be 50.
Review 93:Overall good accomodations, clean. 10 minute walk from city center. Good location. Nice free phone use if needed taxi or contact owners.
Review 94:Was up a hill so as I had bad knees & there was no bus was a bit inconvenient . Otherwise a nice spot .
Review 95:Was quiet & almost had place to ourselves. Was great cooking meals in an oven for a change
Review 96:Price was a little high for what it was...
Review 97:Relatively close to stores and main strip of town but just far enough up the hill to be away from the downtown centre traffic/noise.
Review 98:paper thin walls - having to hear my neighbours at night and then during the afternoon when I tried to nap there was construction being done on the premises that was very loud - the paper thin walls is my greatest complaint - in hotels you pay a BIT more but they are more sound proof. Also, while the price was less than a hotel, it was not much less at all. So next time, I will prefer to stay at a hotel. Other than this problem which is a major flaw, everything else was OK.
Review 99:room with private bath, TV in room, wifi, comfortable bed, opening window.
Review 100:The location is very convenient. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. And the price is very wallet friendly.
Review 101:My husband and I and two boys (aged 3 and 6) stayed in a family room and it was perfect. Bunk beds for the kids, queen for us. We were catching the ferry early the next morning and had no difficulties. Clean. Could walk downtown. Everything we needed. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good, clean, reasonably priced place to stay, who isn't looking for a lot of extra frills.
Review 102:In suite needs to be more sound proof. The bed in the 2nd bedrom was not comfy at all!
Review 103:We like the idea of having BBQ outside and to play ping pong at rainy days
Review 104:The room with 2 single beds was very simple, still clean and comfortable but just a basic room with beds. The part of the family that got that room had to use a washroom down the hall, which they weren't used to.
Review 105:The staff was very friendly even though we checked in late after the ferry came in. The family room was excellent with bunk beds and a queen size bed. Nice decor, great shower, super clean and very comfortable. The building lobby is very tidy, with a nice sitting area. There's a great garden outfront with some small tables to sit at. There is a large kitchen available for people to use, who are staying more that one night.
Review 106:Other people staying were very noisy upon leaving and kept waking us up. Thin walls.
Review 107:The clean room The clean bathroom The security of having a keycode to get into the building The friendly staff
Review 108:The guesthouse is located up a very steep hill from town. It was quite a walk since the town is a little hard to get around in unless you wanted to take taxis. We had to take a taxi back to the train station-no return rides.
Review 109:Guesthouse was very clean, modern and well equipped. We were picked up at the train station after calling upon our arrival.
Review 110:The room was not what we booked on-line (queen bedroom). It was a family room in the basement that had an unpleasant odour. There was no heat in the bathroom. There was also noise from people walking on the floor above the room.
Review 111:Quick check-in.
Review 112:Mini step into bathroom. Deadbolt would not work from inside
Review 113:The sofa, table, flat screen were a great comfort. See thru refer wasnice. Queen bed was fine. Access to kitchen and gardens out frontwe're appreciated
Review 114:Staff was excellent and pleasant to work with. The location was very nice and close enough to food and shopping. I recommend this place and will stay on my next trip to Prince Rupert.
Review 115:no maid service. No coffee in room
Review 116:Loud neighbours. If you wanted to complain you would have to go downstairs to the phone to let the staff know.
Review 117:Quaint environment
Review 118:We liked the apartment we had the last few days of our stay.
Review 119:It is an uphill hike from town. We got our exercise.
Review 120:Computer access was wonderful. Kitchen and laundry facilities great.
Review 121:clean comfortable great kitchen might be a little out of the way if you don't have a vehicle.
Review 122:We had the whole place to ourselves. Great place to stay and cheap. Close to hiking trails and not far from downtown and harbour side.
