Reviews for Hotel Highland

Review 1:Staff was not very friendly.

Review 2:Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Good location for those looking to go to landmannalauger but not looking to camp. Food at restaurant was very good.

Review 3:Staff were hit and miss - some very good but others really not very polite. Wifi didn't work in our room so we had to sit on the sofas near the restaurant to use it. Meals were expensive (and I'm used to Icelandic prices already). They weren't even that special for the amount either - I had the cod one night and it was very dry so can't have been that fresh.

Review 4:Good location on the road into the highland areas. Comfortable room and beds.

Review 5:The hotel is old and not maintained well. When we arrived there was no one in the reception and it took a few minutes and a lot of ringing until someone showed (although we heard a loud voices from the office nearby. The room (don't be fooled by the word "suite") was cold when we arrived and it took quite a lot of time until it warmed up.

Review 6:The location Breakfast and dinner were fine

Review 7:The evening meals were excellent, the bar/lounge area comfy. Relatively convenient to Landmannalaugar and wonderful to have a good bed at the end of long days. It's not startling, but considering the locality we would stay there again.

Review 8:This was such a pleasant place to stop after an exhausting drive through the lava field deserts of the Sprengisandur. We opted for the slightly more expensive suite, which meant we had masses of room in the very large lounge room if you just wanted to hang out and relax. The furniture was great. The dining facilities were superb and the staff very friendly.

Review 9:The location of this hotel is perfect to visit Landmannalaugar. It's a mountain hotel with all the comfort. We enjoyed very much a bath in the jacuzzi before having a nice dinner in its restaurant.

Review 10:very expensive for such a small room and small bathroom, without wifi in the room. Beds not comfortable. TV hanging aside of the bed. Only a folding table and one chair. But this is probably caused by the very remote location (no competition);

Review 11:Food ok. Bathrobes and slippers available to go to the hot tub (in case you are interested).

Review 12:May be a little expensive. Hot tub a little disappointing.

Review 13:Warm welcome. Ecellent location before or after crossing the highlands (F26). Excelent dinner and breekfast.

Review 14:Nothing to dislike.

Review 15:Quiet location, excellent base for trips into Landmannalaugar if you don't want to stay in the backpackers hostel. Very good meals.

Review 16:Wonderful isolated location, outstanding food, friendly helpful staff and the northern lights too!

Review 17:The hot water supply only 5 minutes but you have to wait for 15-30 minutes to get it reheat.

Review 18:Very basic rooms, breakfast was limited, only cold selection.

Review 19:Great location close to landmannalaugar

Review 20:poor wifi connexion in rooms and slighlty overpriced

Review 21:great location to visit landmannalaugar, nice breakfast, big room, clean

Review 22:nothing

Review 23:The dinner was exceptional. A total surprise. great quality. The breakfast was also very well done.

Review 24:It is far to expensive for what it is. The room was very small.

Review 25:We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious.

Review 26:light on the nearby road (if you happen to be on a look for Aurora Borealis)

Review 27:cleanliness comfort hospitality

Review 28:Location for exploring the highlands, quality bed, excellent food.

Review 29:- Unfriendly staff - For what is offered the price is ridiculous - Water in hot pot dirty

Review 30:missing refurbishment, eg. rumpled carpet, dirty windows, fallen tiles in the bathroom

Review 31:the location, the staff, the chef

Review 32:brilliant cuisine

Review 33:Hotel Highland is really in the middle of nowhere with only one other small hotel at not much else nearby. We stayed here on our way to Landmannalaugar and are glad we chose this hotel. The apartment that we had was very big, with a separate living room and bedroom and large bathroom. The living room was slightly dated but this was not a problem at all as everything was clean and they provided more amenities than most of the other places we stayed on our 2 week trek around Iceland. We had a VERY GOOD dinner in the restaurant (one of the best on our trip) and the hotel manager gave us great advice on what to stop and see on the way to Landmannalaugar. He was very friendly and helpful! There is also a sauna and a hot tub (which we got to use all by ourselves).

Review 34:It was very pricey for the rooms what you got. But it is remote, everything has to be trucked in, and its the only game in town, so no competition to keep prices low. We stayed there so we could visit Landmannalauger and hike in the area.

Review 35:Mr Thor who manages the twin properties Hrauneyjar and HIghland Hotel was wonderful. He went to a great deal of effort to help us correct a mistake we had made putting regular gasoline in a diesel engine car we had rented by consulting with other knowledgeable people and giving us hands on help with the car. The food in the restaurant was very tasty and well prepared. And I noticed Mr. Thor making the rounds of the dining room , going to each table, during the evening meal, asking each family what their plans were the next day and making suggestions for hikes and activities the next day, adjusted for the weather. Also we are a family of five and they put in an extra bed in the living area so our two bedroom with full kitchen (including small fridge) accommodated all of us easily. Could easily bring in sandwich materials or cook a meal there since there is a fridge and stove in the family room.

Review 36:Room smelt damp and was somewhat tired with damp through the windows. Overall very expensive

Review 37:Dinner was good although expensive. Location was excellent if you have driven the F208 route.

Review 38:No really it was good

Review 39:The staff, very nice, helpful, friendly The silence... In the surrounding and inside the room The food at the restaurant, excellent, breakfast and dinner The location, gorgeous for who like wild The room well equipped

Review 40:Really comfy and quiet rooms.

Review 41:Not too stilish but you can't expect more in that locations

Review 42:the location

Review 43:Was expensive

Review 44:Good hotel in a location with few hotels

Review 45:Hotel is situated near to many beautiful places, great staff.
