Reviews for Hotel Edelweiss

Review 1:Snowy road uphill back to station but managable

Review 2:Friendliness of the staff, views and clean comfy rooms. The downstairs football table and ping pong room was great for the evenings and the sauna was very relaxing especially after skiing!

Review 3:Just beautiful hotel, incredible location, staff was so attentive, great food! Beautiful view from our private balcony? Very close to stores, town. We would definitely go back, just perfect piece of paradise!

Review 4:Daniel speaks English quite well and was very helpful even before our arrival, changing our booking to a triple room at no charge instead of making us book an extra bed. We received a very warm welcome. Our room had a broken bulb, but it was quickly changed without us even asking. We were allowed to leave our bags at the hotel after check-out while we went up to Jungfrau and Daniel even offered to call a taxi for us afterwards. The hotel has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere which I really liked. Our room was simple, but clean and had nice views. Daniel and Susanne did their best to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. All in all, very good value and highly recommended.

Review 5:I had a very bad experience in regard to many matters.1) My sheets were filthy dirty with blood stains under the pillow.2)There was no mattress cover on the mattress - just a single sheet.3) The single room was tiny. The television was stuck in a corner and I could not see it.4) The shower was almost impossible to get into.Apart from all that, I was ill and at risk of bronchitis. I had to cut my trip short and only stayed three days in the hotel, as I had to go to find a hospital. I had planned to stay 13 days.I paid CHF 1300 for my stay, as the terms were that I could not cancel. Of course this is correct, so I accepted this and paid. I was told by Daniel, the owner, that if he would put the room on Booking.com and if he could sell it he would refund me.I saw that he did sell it. I wrote to him and asked him if he would give me a refund. He said no, as the money went to drinks and food that I had consumed.Of course, he was under no obligation to reimburse me, but then he should not have given me that expectation. From the outset, he kept on bargaining with me about food, drinks and it all turned out to be a pot of lies.I went to Zurich to get medical care. I stayed in the Movenpick Hotel in Glattberg. I love that hotel and have been staying there on trips through Europe for the last 10 years. It is just slightly more expensive than Hotel Edelweiss, but they are worlds apart. Not only do I always receive very classy service from Hotel Movenpick, but the staff were genuinely concerned about helping me with my illness. Daniel of Hotel Edelweiss showed no compassion for my plight. He kept on trying to persuade me to stay, offering deals, all of which amounted to nothing. When he saw that I was packing my bags and leaving, he walked away and told me to go to his colleague and pay. I had to ask for a taxi. Nobody helped me with my luggage at the hotel or the train station. I am that ill that I am probably going to be in hospital tomorrow.

Review 6:It is a nice house in a good location. Good food.

Review 7:No proper bar ,public areas quite utilitarian in style of budget hotel so missing a comfortable relaxing après ski environment.Needs more feel good factor.

Review 8:Friendly attentive owner and staff, 2 mins walk from station, quiet location, clean basic warm room ,good shower, reasonable breakfast, excellent wifi and overall good value for money which is hard to find in Wengen. As a solo traveller on a low rate it was ideal as a base.

Review 9:First, Wengen is beautiful! The rooms with balconies provide a panorama view of the Alps. Stunning! The hosts are VERY friendly and helpful. They make you feel very much at home. Great location too and very quiet.

Review 10:Honestly, nothing was wrong with our stay.

Review 11:Daniel, the owner, was always around & got to know us personal. He was very responsive with emails prior to our trip & even gave us a free upgrade to a room with a balcony when it was available. We loved the location, the town of Wengen & loved that we could have a four course dinner at the hotel (which were delicious) if we didn't want to find our own spot. We will definitely be back!

Review 12:Some of the dining staff were a little brusque

Review 13:Good value, good location, beautiful building with views, mostly nice and helpful staff, very organized and well-run hotel

Review 14:Mold on ceiling in shower. Staff constantly pressuring you to eat dinner there. We hadn't even sat down for breakfast yet one day when they were pressuring us about if we were going to have dinner there.

Review 15:Comfortable beds and bedding, would have been nice to have an extra pillow, although I didn't ask for one.

Review 16:It provides an amazing dinner in 25CHF. We feel this price is very low in Switzerland. All staff here are very nice, they give us a lot of advice on travelling and photo taking.

Review 17:Reception desk staff very friendly! He recommended several restaurants when he discovered the hotel's restaurant was booked. Charming village, quiet due to off season.

Review 18:Cutest coziest little lodge set in the adorable town of Wengen! Incredible views of the JungFrau and surrounding mountains for sunrise and sunset. The staff was excellent; so kind and accommodating. The set dinner menu was delicious! I didn't want to leave :)

Review 19:The balcony was stunning but the room was quite small. Catching trains in and out of Wengen got a little bit expensive and it was hard to make it home on time for dinner some days!

Review 20:The most breathtaking view from our balcony and the nice staff we interacted with when making the booking.

Review 21:Actially the place is pretty far from city centre. 40 minutes from interaken ost. But if you stay there for goimg to Jungfrauyogh, it will be good choice. It is on the way to get there.

Review 22:I arrived late so I couldn't see the view on the first day. The next day morning just after I woke up, I was really surprised. View was perfect, the best one I've ever seen. Also brrakfast was good enough.

Review 23:Great staff. Great value. Very comfortable place to stay. Excellent choice for a good reasonably priced dinner. Manager was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. Spectacular view from our room.

Review 24:Nothing - I highly recommend!

Review 25:Very friendly and warm environment. Daniel made a special effort to help make sure that we had information we needed for a great trip. Good advice to take in the town of Thun and the Thunersee

Review 26:there is no blower in toilet which is inconvinent. for the rest, everything is fine.

Review 27:service and location are perfect. I came back with different friends every year sine 2013. Junfrang is just in front of the hotel, you have beautiful view from platfrom, room window, cantin. It is really a enjoyness.

Review 28:Tables are assigned to your room and you will eat breakfast at the same table every morning and dinner at the same table at night. So if you aren't happy with your table let them know so they can move you when someone checks out. It didn't bother me, I found it comforting, but saw some other guests fussing them up about when they had the same table in the morning as they did the night before. Or thinking if they were first up in the morning, they could choose any table they wanted.

Review 29:The quality of the hospitality was excellent without being overwhelming. The main host we dealt with was Daniel and he was helpful, enchanting, and a wealth of knowledge that he dispenses without drama even though everyone wants his time. The restaurant staff is lovely and attentive and we enjoyed the ability to eat in there at night and the food was good and good value for money.

Review 30:Just be aware that it's a bit of an uphill climb back to the train station, but we went to Switzerland to walk and breathe in the air :) We did see some guests take a ride up instead of walking like we did, so it should be no issue. I'm sure the staff would be very helpful in that regard as they are with everything else.

Review 31:Spectacular views, immaculately clean rooms, and super (really super) nice people! These alone would have made us happy, but then there was also delicious buffet breakfast every day, free tea, coffee and munchies in a nice lounge, another spacious lounge with free use of PC and good in-room wifi to boot! We also highly recommend opting for dinner - YUM! We did not get to try the sauna but they have it as well. Even the outdoor areas are so nice. We LOVE this hotel!

Review 32:We had to leave the place :(

Review 33:Fantastic location and facility. Great base to explore the region. During our stay we had all our meals here they were very delicious and were very reasonably priced. The Chef prepared vegetarian meal for us specially which was a great service. Would highly recommend staying here.

Review 34:Wonderful stay! The hosts were friendly and showed great hospitality. The view from the balcony was amazing. Dinner was wonderful and great value as compared to the prices in the region.

Review 35:Pillow is too soft. The disadvantage is to walk uphill back to the train station with a luggage even though the hotel is located very near the train station. Not good for a heavy luggage.

Review 36:Lovely property with very nice view over mountains. I travel alone and make me feel safe to stay here. If I have a chance to come to Wengen, I would stay here again

Review 37:Nothing at all would go back without hesitation

Review 38:Friendly staff who do everything to make your stay memorable good breakfast and excellent value for money dinner with a varied choice daily

Review 39:There was some mold on the ceiling of our bathroom which was surprising because the place was very clean overall.

Review 40:Very friendly owner, very helpful with what to do, location was great with a small playground right out the front door. Basic, but good overall.

Review 41:If I had to point out something, it would be the high cost, and that the rooms are a bit on the small side.

Review 42:Incredible location, breathtaking scenery, friendly hosts, everything clean & sparkling, free breakfast included.

Review 43:We truly enjoyed our stay. The view from our balcony was stunning. The couple who own the hotel were very gracious hosts and went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay. They had a great breakfast every morning, also. I highly recommend this hotel!

Review 44:Breakfast would be improved by fresh fruit rather than tinned ( albeit containing the occasional chopped apple). No room safe, which was a concern because keys were kept in a box on the reception table. Not sure travel insurance would cover this.

Review 45:View of mountains, complementary tea and coffee, friendly staff

Review 46:The breakfast choices are very limited but good and freshly served.

Review 47:The staff was very nice, warm and very professional. The room size was very big and comfortable. Bathrooms are very clean and well maintained.

Review 48:We had two rooms, one standard double and one with a balcony. Theone with a balcony was fine, but the more simple one had a verysmall bathroom, the type a large person will probably not fit wellinside. The tables are pre allocated for breakfast time, youcan't choose your own.

Review 49:Very friendly staff, the common halls make up perfectly for the smallrooms. Balcony was nice, although not 100% private. Overall a verypleasant stay!

Review 50:Relatively quiet evenings so if you are looking for any nightlife, it's not here.

Review 51:Location, location, location. I still can't get over the view. Owner/operator onsite with extraordinary staff. Breakfast is excellent and the dinner meals are top notch quality.

Review 52:Need a safe in the room as reception is open 24hrs a day so difficult to get access to valuables at times. Rooms need a fan as they were very warm during our stay. Would have liked a luggage service to and from the train station as other hotels offer because the hill is a real challenge with mobility issues but the taxi service in the village was most welcome.

Review 53:Wonderful views. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable rooms.

Review 54:you need to open the windows for ventilation at night, but be prepared for a moth or two to fly in, otherwise at night it is pretty cool

Review 55:very quaint and cute room, wonderful view of the mountains, speedy wifi, close to Mannliechen cable car and easy access to Jungfraujoch, comfortable room and cosy

Review 56:Everything is Excellent about this. Wooden furnishing all arouns. Cleanliness Etc. They hv few spacious rooms at basement with music instruments, library and kids area. It is amazing experience. Walkable from wengen station. Probably best location to be in wengen.

Review 57:Wonderful, welcoming family-run hotel. Half-board option included a delicious dinner. Will definitely return What better than enjoying sunset over the valley from a room with a view!

Review 58:The pillow was a little too soft. Everything was very packed but extremely clean.

Review 59:The receptionist/former owner Martin is the most hospitable host ever! He let us help him pick beans in the garden. And the chef who shared a drink with us and let us in the kitchen was just as wonderful!

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:The location of the property was excellent..just a few minutes walk from the train station..The staff make u feel comfortable and at home..very very good..will visit again and highly recommend to stay..if u r in Swiss it has to be wengen and Edelweiss.

Review 62:Wonderful hospitality. This is THE place to stay in Wengen if you want a home from home. You will not find better hosts! The food was delicious every night, too. Fantastic location for exploring the region.

Review 63:Upon arrival the hosts were friendly, helpful and very accommodating. Each morning we had a yummy breakfast with food options to suit all and a range of fresh breads. We opted for dinners at the hotel restaurant also. Both nights we were served a great 4 course meal for a price unheard of in Switzerland. Our hosts gave perfect recommendations for our two days hiking.

Review 64:Awesome view from our balcony of the Jungfrau. Incredible buffett breakfast included in the price. Very personable owner with a great attitude, focuses on the needs of his guests rather than just making money.

Review 65:Hi, First of all I ll really appreciate the conduct of staff, they all are very nice, friendly and we'll mannered people. They have done everything possible to make me feel comfortable at there place, informed me about all the facilities properly. Property is very neat and tidy and is maintained properly. Unfortunately I couldn't have dinner there due to being somewhere else, but had breakfast, it's very good. Food provided is very nice and freshly prepared. In short staying there for three nights was good worth of my money. Highly recommended to stay there. Regards Umair

Review 66:Teresa and Daniel were amazing with communication and accommodating with our food allergies. The beds were comfortable, the room quiet and the view was fantastic!! We highly recommend the dinner at the hotel.

Review 67:We liked everything!

Review 68:The care The hosts/owners - Daniel and Suzanne took of us, the way Martin welcomed us, the way our special requests were accommodated, the food, the facilities, the location!

Review 69:I loved the location. The owner/operator was very friendly and accommodating, and very helpful in making recommendations of things to do. We stayed for 8 nights, and would have stayed longer if we had the time. We purchased a dinner package, and the food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Review 70:Rooms could do with air condoning for the summer months

Review 71:Excellent family run accommodation with fantastic friendly service, close to the best service I've come across. Rooms are basic, but the views are amazing. The 4 course dinner (25CFF pp) every night was delicious and great value for money, highly recommended. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 72:The breakfast could have been a bit better with fresh fruit and more variety.

Review 73:The rooms are spartan but very clean and comfortable. The hotel has a wonderful outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy the view of the Jungfrau. There's a patio with a couch and love seat, garden with table and chairs, and and a deck with lawn chairs. Right next door is a playground for children and the hotel has a playroom with a doll house, trains and lots of toys. Perfect for little kids.

Review 74:On the pricey side, but then what isn't expensive in Switzerland? I thought it was good value for the money considering the location, but it's still expensive.

Review 75:Wow what a place! Everything was just perfect, from our check-in experience, to the breakfast, to the wonderful staff. I would highly recommend this hotel. We didn't get to try the dinner, as we returned too late every evening, but at 25 francs it seemed like an outstanding value.

Review 76:Nothing, 100% recommended your stay here

Review 77:Staff made you feel very welcome, rooms were clean & the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was fresh every morning, dinner was mouthwatering! As I was traveling alone, I had many questions which the staff went out of their way to answer. There's not one bad thing I could think off about this place, fantastic!

Review 78:Nothing.

Review 79:The hotel staff were excellent. They couldn't do enough to helpful and welcoming. They prioritised even the little things to make your stay comfortable.

Review 80:Nothing to unlike... Everything is awesome

Review 81:Awesome Place... its like dreamland. And too good staff n too co operative. Very helpful.. will visit here everytime... best place

Review 82:The staff of Edelweiss are very nice. It's about 5-10 mins walk from the railway station. Breakfast has a great variety of choices and the yogurt is quite a surprise. We did enjoy the stay @ Edelweiss

Review 83:Balcony View. Perfect service, we had 2 seniors and 1 patient, and requested 2 vegi and 1 smaller portion of the meal, and a lot of hot water, all perfectly served with kind attitude, and very very delicious at a good price. Very clean.

Review 84:Bathroom in our room was very small

Review 85:A personal approach with the overall experience of guests, not economic considerations, being empasised by the owner.

Review 86:not found

Review 87:reception staff is so sweet.she gave very great suggestion of hiking and we made it next day.it is a wonderful experience in such beautiful mountains.when we missed our breakfast she helped us getting bread & coffee.very kind girl.bed is big, nice &clean.i will be very pleased to choose there again. besides, hiking stick is free to lend at the front door.very nice.

Review 88:Location. 15 minutes uphill walking to the Railway station, when I am with my luggage, it's a little difficult .

Review 89:Nice staff, clean room, delicious food

Review 90:We lucked out with the weather, but if it had been foggy and rainy for days on end (as is possible) it would have been hard to find things to do.

Review 91:We booked this place on the basis of reviews and were delighted. Daniel and Susanne were personable hosts and have a winning model of value for money. We didn't commit to half board, but ate every dinner in the hotel after tasting Hannes' first four course dinner. Daniel keeps the meal price low as a way to fill the hotel, and it worked with us. We ended up extending our stay. It helped the the weather stayed nice during our early June visit. Our goal was to take walks and hikes in a spectacular setting, and we averaged six hours on the trails each day. Switzerland is expensive, but for us it was worth it to get the perfect relaxed experience we were seeking.

Review 92:All good. Most of the negative comments I've read are regarding the uphill walk to the village. It's the Swiss Alps.

Review 93:Hotels in spots as beautiful as Wengen can often coast on the back of that but Daniel, Susanne and the staff go out of their way to help you make the most of your stay. Great hotel.

Review 94:The steep hill from the town and train station to the hotel.

Review 95:We liked the owners and their warm personal service. The food was very good, including both breakfast and dinner. The views from our balcony of the Jungfrau were wonderful!

Review 96:In a beautiful area of town very near the train station. Both hotel owners seem to care very much about our comfort and the quality of our first day. The breakfast was delicious.

Review 97:Location not ideal for a pensioner. Quite downhill from the HBF and the town andof course a hike up. No safe in the room (nor mini-bar to chill your own beverages) which annoyed me as I don't like to have to carry my passport and wallet on holiday and using the reception safe a pain in my experience. Uneven dinner meal (seems all (?) restaurants are hotel connected and hard to "eat out".). First night quite tasty. Second night, very poor.

Review 98:Great views of the Alps and balcony to see them from.

Review 99:Comfortable memory foam beds. Charming and helpful staff with a genuine desire to help you enjoy your stay. The views are to die for and the peace unbeatable. Breakfast very good and included. You must eat dinner there and try the fondue with cheese made on the premises. By far the best value in Wengen.

Review 100:From the moment you check-in you are made to feel at home by the warm reception of Daniel and his team and that warmth lasted the entire duration of our stay. To add to the friendly staff, the hotel served the most delicious 4 course dinners using locally sourced ingredients, but the star of the show is the magnificent view of Jungfrau, which in my opinion is one of the best in the town. To wake up to that spectacular view every day was truly priceless. Thank you Daniel and staff of Hotel Edelweiss for a truly unforgettable experience!

Review 101:It is downhill from Wengen station to the hotel about 10min, but really hard when you leave with luggage, but Denial will arrange the taxi to the station, so it's ok. I lived in a bunked beds room, and if there is a hook on the wall besides the upper bed, it would be better for me to hang some little things. And hope the breakfast more rich.

Review 102:A little worried since the cheapest hotel during my stay in Swiss, but full mark recommended, good quality and good value. The bunked beds room is small, but have everything you need, lovely wooden house style, super clean, and quilt is really comfort. You can play table tennis, play music (piano and guitar), social with others in the living room (with free hot drink), furthermore, you can reserve private sauna. We really made friends during the stay. We have four meals in the hotel, worth to try the four courses dishes, different every day, and they have good wine. Save the time to find something to eat, it was delicious. Also every room will have its own table in the dining room, really like it, feel I am home. Denial couple are so lovely, humorous and very helpful, will give your instructions, and also they arrange some activities during the dinner and rainy days, the 40 year old toy made us surprised and laughed, we really have fun. Recommend to everyone who has a plan to stay in Wengen, and I think I will be back here again.

Review 103:Beautiful location. Direct contact with the owner on check in and check out, great guy. Super comfy bed. Great breakfast. Would have stayed another night but they were booked.

Review 104:I liked it all but if you want a bigger town, lots of shops and restaurants, do not go to Wengen.

Review 105:The staff was terrific. I felt I was visiting my family's home. If you like outdoor activities this spot is great with lots to do. Clean and comfortable

Review 106:wi-fi could be better, but to be honest I start thinking that that is s general problem in Switzerland and i should reduce my standards:) what was not on my taste was the juice offered at breakfast... But that would be a small detail in s very pleasent stay:)

Review 107:Very customer friendly, free depot of ski equipment at central station, solves totally the problem of the distance from the station to the hotel (if somebody could have a problem with the 5 min walk. Room was very nice, breakfast was very good

Review 108:Food For Indian vegetarian food is a problem in Swiss but one can find Indian restaurants in Interlaken

Review 109:Nice location not far from bahn station very friendly staff

Review 110:the walk up to the resort centre might be offputting for some.

Review 111:Good location, friendly, helpful staff, great view from bedroom. The breakfast was plentiful,

Review 112:The staff were extremely friendly, cheerful, and helpful. Views are spectacular. The snow was great and unlike most Swiss resorts the bars on the slopes were reasonably priced.

Review 113:My wife complained that bed was little bit too hard.

Review 114:Great and very friendly staff. Excellent 4-course dinner for a superb price. Balcony with an excellent view. Very convenient depot voucher to leave your ski and boots in Central Sport.

Review 115:Daniel and Susan are the new owners (although they have been managing the hotel for a while). Their friendliness and enthusiasm is what makes this place special. The previous owner (Martin) is still helping out in the hotel, which says a lot.

Review 116:The pillows were a little flat; maybe fine for some but just not what we (North Americans) are accustomed to.

Review 117:The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

Review 118:Although close to the train station, the hotel is at the bottom of a steep hill. Hard to walkabout in Winter.

Review 119:Very friendly and accommodating staff. Hotel is very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good as was the WiFi.

Review 120:The personnel are all excellent and very welcoming. helpful in all matters. we really appreciated the quiet location and slept well. The Gluhwein in front of an outside fire was really great.

Review 121:I would return and stay again. Great ownership. Real friendly and helpful staff. My daughter has a peanut allergy and they went out of their way to ensure she was taken care of with regard to their food preparation. Excellent place to stay.

Review 122:Difficult to reach the hotel from railway station through the steep road with heavy luggage and baby stroller.

Review 123:Friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, scenic surroundings, comfortable room.
