Reviews for YHA Manchester
Review 1:Didn't sleep very well, however this was not because of the hostel itself but because of other guests on the floor, slamming doors and shouting.
Review 2:Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Among the best I have had at a hotel. Location was central.
Review 3:Would have loved a long mirror for us girls when we were getting ready, some more plugs as we only had one between 3 of us plus the lighting wasnt very good, the green walls made it too dark even with the main light on plus no wifi would work in the room but other than that it was great for one night.
Review 4:It was right near where we wanted to go, it was clean and the beds were really comfortable. The staff were really friendly and we felt really welcomed.
Review 5:room very basic bit noisy people coming and going and slamming doors all night
Review 6:location was brilliant for us as walking distance from corrie tour and shopping centre
Review 7:- Great location in Castlefield, very close to Deansgate, their pubs and nightclubs - Friendly staff - Room was clean and quiet We've been very happy with YHA and we'll definitely come back there
Review 8:Location was poor. Taxi required for most journeys. No towels included. Can't drink the tap water.
Review 9:Can't complain for the price. Simple and clean. Friendly staff.
Review 10:It is quite inconvenient to go to the University of Manchester and quite far from Manchester Piccadily station.
Review 11:The staffs were really nice and friendly.
Review 12:Stayed over for a gig, great location (down the road from the museum of science and industry!). Room was clean (bedding etc) bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, but that's me being picky! Overall friendly staff, quiet room and great location...would recommend.
Review 13:This is a personal statement and nothing to do with the property itself. I think I am too old to share rooms, it feels little awkward. Especially when you have different schedule from the other occupants. But I would definitely recommend it for one night short stay.
Review 14:The price and the 24 h reception. Also the fact that I could check in whenever I wanted.
Review 15:One the Sunday morning one of the ladies kept putting her alarm on snooze for an hour starting from 7.15 and didn't get up in the end!!! Very annoying lol lol!! Joking apart, the only downside is that a visitor had his car back window smashed in and something stolen. That's off putting.
Review 16:That style hasn't been spared just because it's a YHA. That incredibly you don't charge for parking! (Please don't charge now I've said that lol!) The views of the bridges, canals, buildings as I eat my breakfast is astonishing!
Review 17:Location is ideal to enjoy the Manchester nightlife, rooms very clean and beds very comfy. If your travelling on a budget then this place won't disappoint you
Review 18:The beds weren't the most comfortable and the mattresses had a kind of plasticky feel. Would have been OK for 1 night but I stayed 4 nights and never found it super comfortable.
Review 19:I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, the room had an entry room with shower/toilet/locker facility which was fantastic. It meant very little disturbance during sleep without the fear of having to wait ages for a shower as it was shared between 3. Each bed had its own charger and lamp which which was great.
Review 20:A. Suggestion: ask for your age when booking? Because I would prefer my age group i.e. not young adults. (i'm male, almost 55 years old). I had ear plugs and black eyes shade, but due to the incredible inconsiderateness of all the other room mates I was woken up twice- I will not bore you...I find this a real problem in most of your YHA, even in rural locations.B. Suggestion: advise on booking if a school party or any large party over a dozen people have already booked-in. eg. a party of over a dozen cyclists of young men booked in to "Snowdon Ranger YHA" about 25 years ago and ...but I wouldn't bore you. There were fortunately no large parties booked at manchester YHA on the night -I was lucky. I could have asked by telephoning YHA CentraI Booking I suppose.C. Suggestion: put a notice by the security corridor door, "Please do not let anyone in!"I was a bit slow once using my plastic key and a woman inside opened this door for me- I could be an intruder.D. Suggestion: I had to ask for the loud background music to be turned down in the foyer/ bar area around 8pm (even wearing ear plugs it was torture after a while) and this was promptly done.E. Suggestion: confortable seating in foyer area with partitions as it is "dead space" at the moment with an "airport arrivals area feel". In the evenings residents need to find a cosy nook- but with disceet spot lights to enable you to read a book.F. Put plastic or rubber bungs at bottom of stool legs in bar area to prevent screeching sound.G. Cold plate for cooked breakfast. Barely luke warm srambled egg. I pointed both these things out (after first saying how much i enjoyed everything else and appreciating how difficult it is to keep food hot standing for a length of time to serve) and the young counter woman said in a friendly way, "I will pass it on to them".
Review 21:1. bargain £10 single bed in a dorm of four males staying for one night. 2 .very well signed for me to find on foot through Manchester's back streets. 3. extroardinary historic location, the canal basin, the Roman Fort. Brilliant poster in the YHA canteen, quoting George Orwell, "Manchester is the belly & guts of the nation". 4. ensuite fantastic hot shower. I'm 6'4" and I found the beds surprisingly long. I liked the side lights, Even though the others kept their side lights on until too late I found I could still sleep. 5. I really liked the security, yet it didn't impose on you. The plastic key cards for the corridor door was effective. 6. the large lockers in the dorm. 7. could open the window. 8. all staff v professional, friendly and helpful. 9. real home made nutritious tasty dinner. Quick table service sitting in the bar area. Dinner served until 9pm! no need to starve or snack, nor try to find somewhere to eat out. 10. YHA breakfast is always great. I liked the vegetarian sausage. Quiet, friendly efficiency of staff.
Review 22:Not a typical hostel atmosphere. Not many people hanging out in the common room and those that did, were using the wifi because there is no wifi in the rooms. Not an ideal place for meeting other travelers.
Review 23:Beds and room were comfortable. Very nice located
Review 24:Having tea / coffee sachets for one night use would have been perfect
Review 25:Well planned rooms, simple yet built with modern facilities and have taken care of details
Review 26:Noisy roommates, wi-fi was only available in the common area. Be careful: it takes 2 hours to dry clothes in the dryer.
Review 27:Everything you need, friendly staff, fitness center with swimming pool in the nearest building for only 3 or 4 pounds per day.
Review 28:Sharing with people who have to leave early! Puts a question when people booking. What time do you intend to depart? You could then room those not travelling in a the same dorm & Those intending early traveling their own, as they put the big light on.. . or you add curtains to beds ,which cuts down on light & sound disturbances for each traveller...
Review 29:Always like the friendliness location send rooms
Review 30:nothing!
Review 31:we had an en suite in the room and I only payed £10, the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional, when they're usually horrible and rude in other hostels lol. there was a bar and restaurant, outside seating area right next to the canal, very clean and spacious lockers. would definitely stay again.
Review 32:I didn't like the fact that i had to share a room with 2 old men. I mean, come on, it's supposed to be a youth hostel, not a hotel where everybody could stay regardless of their age. Youth hostels should only be for those 25 and below in my opinion.
Review 33:The location, over looking the wharf. That, in my personal opinion was very heartfelt and the people who worked there were very, very nice. They helped get around Manchester perfectly and efficiently. Also, shout out the volunteer receptionist girl from Japan that i met who's really cute and super nice. Go ahead and keep up the good job.
Review 34:No tea/coffee facilities in 4 bunk room or TV.
Review 35:Hostel was well presented in a good setting right next to the canal. Staff were helpful and food was available until the early hours.
Review 36:The access to wifi is provided but it's only practical in the reception area and it does not work properly upstairs. However, they are going to manage this problem soon.
Review 37:Friendly staff, very nice area, easy access
Review 38:since all shower was in each room and the fan was quite noisy, i had to be careful when someone was spleeping. also i had to pay for luggage.....
Review 39:this hostel kept clean all the time. i felt very comfortable to sleep in the bed and use bathroom.
Review 40:The only bad thing about the room was that if you went turned the light on in the bathroom or flushed the chain or went in the shower the whole wall vibrated really loudly, it did stop after about 5 mins though.
Review 41:This is the second time image stayed as a group of friends it is the perfect location for the city centre and the 24 hour reception is good because we didn't have to be in by a certain time. Also you can buy pizza from reception on weekends when you get in!
Review 42:The staff , there's A lady I don't want to give the name , but she was very rude because I didn't had my ID with me , so I was tilling here can I email you my passport? She wasn't accepting even she was rude :( but finally o found my driving license so she accepted. I hope they don't put this kind of staff in the front desk or reception, and I advice everyone to take the ID , because if she be the one serving you , you will be in big trouble :)
Review 43:Location & Free Carpark
Review 44:wifi not working in rooms , but the lounge is so nice that I did not mind to be there using the intyernet
Review 45:Very nice localisation- calm and clean. The hostel is clean and tidy, warm and with access to warm water. Every single bed has access to socket, little shelf and a lamp. I felt safe thanks to the locker and thanks to the doors opened only by customers using a card as a key. The bed was really comfy. The radiator was ON so I could dry my shoes after heavy rain :) Bathroom in the room very important to me. I like the access to the kitchen and that there is so much things available to use. I haven't use the washing room but I think it is excellent idea (haven't seen washing room in other hostels). Thanks to the bar I could feel like in a high standard hotel where the hot beverages and hot meal is always available. I tried breakfast once - the food was ok, fresh juice was a nice surprise. I like that the staff in the kitchen wears appropriate clothes (again I could feel like in a good hotel where cleanliness is on very high level). I felt welcome there, the staff was smiling and always happy to help me.
Review 46:Wi-Fi was only available in the common area and would have liked to have it in the room but this was told while check-in so you're prepared for this.
Review 47:Was here to watch a Manchester United game so just needed a place to crash. So if you're here for a couple of nights, then it's absolutely worth it. Location is good, it's a 10-12 minute walk from Deansgate station and accessibility to Old Trafford is great.
Review 48:wifi was poor, I was not able to connect during my stay.
Review 49:Location is very good, staff are very nice and helpful, the hotel restaurant is good as an option. clean hotel and good facilities.
Review 50:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The free parking until 7pm on day of leaving was a bonus. The hearty breakfast was great and all day cafe served a good selection of food.
Review 51:Phone signals were poor there and Internet was not working I asked the staff and they said computers in the lobby are also not working
Review 52:Location and price were excellent
Review 53:My room stunk of feet......... But it was being used by 4 young adults, hahaha.
Review 54:I was very dubious about staying at a hostel (it was my first time). But it was fantastic, I couldn't reccomend it more. The staff where polite and very helpful, the facilities where fine for my needs. I mean, what do you want for £15?
Review 55:The number of plug sockets (one) in my room was insufficient to charge my son and I's devices simultaneously. I was also unhappy that two individuals were knocking loudly at the doors surrounding mine at 06:55 for a wake-up call. This disturbed and distressed my eight-year-old son. Though I would happily return as a solo traveler, I will not consider staying in this hostel with my family.
Review 56:Our room was very well presented and the hostel staff were very welcoming.
Review 57:People slamming doors at gone 3am right by the room.
Review 58:Friendly atmosphere ? staff were welcoming ? its a very inviting place. My room view was facing the railway lol and I'm a keen rail enthusiast.
Review 59:The lockers cost 2-3 pound. I think luggage storage should be free.
Review 60:I was impressed by the cleanlyness and the very helpful staff! It is definitely one of the best hostels I've ever been! I can totally recommend it and would stay there again!
Review 61:Nothing like hotel standard, the beds sheets was stained and the rooms was not messy but dirty. The shower room was very small. It had a strange odour throughout the building. Not suitable for babies to stay as washing area is limited. You can hear constant slamming of doors. Bunkbed makes nosies as you turn due to metal frame.....
Review 62:The location and window view was nice. Staff was friendly and informative. Heating took long to warm up the room but was warm throughout the night. Was happy to only stay one night.
Review 63:corridor smelled of feet, noisy neighbours crashing around in middle of night.
Review 64:friendly staff, amazing central location next to the canal, swimming pool next door, free car parking both days, lovely breakfast.
Review 65:Somewhat overpriced for a hostel, at £30 per night. Breakfast was extra on top of this, tea or coffee had to be paid for as well. The majority of hostels have these things included. There is even a charge for left luggage. It's also £2 to hire a towel, plus £5 deposit. £1.50 for a bottle of water! Long walk to the centre of Manchester, probably require taxi home, which means more expenditure.
Review 66:Clean and well run, if a bit soulless. Nice location on canals, with couple of (up market) restaurants and pubs close by.
Review 67:No chalk or tips for the pool cue, I made loads of foul shots and lost! I recon also TV's in the private rooms are a must, I'm currently typing this in a hostle in Newcastle called sleeperdormz. Is the same format but this 4 person bunked room has a Tv. It's a nice addition and as we're a band it may get thrown out the window.
Review 68:Beds are great the location is fantastic everything is great.
Review 69:Food, the chef really made an effort to cook vegan food which was of the highest of standard.Excellent over night staff on 23/24/10/15. The conference room had a very high standard and we weren't interrupted.I would definitely recommend it.
Review 70:Since the rooms are spacious enough, it would be nice if the beds could be a bit wider for more comfort. Unfortunately only WiFi on ground level, but this is advertised.
Review 71:Close to Deansgate, and city center is reasonably close. I didn't use any taxi for the 4 days I was there.
Review 72:The toilet in the room is extremely dirty, with lots of brown stains at the water level inside the toilet bowl; no wonder my room mates all use the shared toilet outside of the room. Shower area also worn and the knob for turning the shower on was very stiff so not suitable for anyone with a poor grip or with poor hand coordination.
Review 73:Cheap. Got the bed for half price, so wanted to try it out as the reviews seem good and I only need a bed to sleep for overnight and a shower in the morning.
Review 74:For the same price room my teenage daughters would have had a free breakfast in Premier Inn. Lack of sockets in room- too many devices/ hair straighteners to plug in between the 3 of us- and this was a room for 4.
Review 75:Comfort of the beds Great menu and beautifully cooked and presented evening meal and breakfast Lovely position next to canal Great location for city centre. Hot shower Very clean Great staff No need to go out for food/ alcohol/ soft drinks-all reasonably priced.
Review 76:a bit far from the bus station, train station etc.
Review 77:the area seemed safe and the building secure, the room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, staff - extremely nice and accommodating. had vending machines where you could get snacks and drinks.
Review 78:Nothing was awful. But 1. it was a pity i couldnt use a computer to do my emails as there were 3 there but staff said they werent working 2. it was a long walk and outside the keycard area to reach a toilet/bathroom when someone in my dorm was having an endlessly long shower. I prefer the old-style group of toilets/basins in corridor, so one could always find a toilet without waiting for person using shower to vacate.
Review 79:beautiful location, # helpful staff, good self-catering kitchen (though id have liked a minishop to buy a small amount of milk)
Review 80:Too quiet? Very far from shopping, eating places etc and not close to any of the Piccadilly/Oxford Road train stations to get anywhere (eg. airport). Room very small after building a small toilet in room which is worse. Toilet outside allows roomies to both sleep and bath in peace. Common space v little for visitors to mix n hang out together.
Review 81:Functional clean room. Quiet.
Review 82:We're told on a couple of occasions we were far too loud however we were talking really quietly before leaving the venue for a night out.
Review 83:A perfect place for a young group of adults to come and stay for a short trip. Exactly what we needed
Review 84:Little bit noisy as the train goes past the window at times, but it's not a big deal.
Review 85:Great value, great staff & clean enough Perfect if you are just looking for a place to put your head down at night and have a shower in the morning.
Review 86:Wifi is not working without problems
Review 87:Great and friendly stuff, perfect location for city trip to Manchester, clean, modern, cosy, good breakfast, free parking on side
Review 88:The non-breakfast included, when I asked to the staff about things to do(no bar/pub related) no too many options were made.
Review 89:The facilities are ok and the staff is friendly.
Review 90:We stayed here because our stay at YHA Cardiff was great but the rooms in Manchester are no where near the same standard. The bathrooms are seriously bad and the rooms are very cramped and stuffy
Review 91:The location was great. A big group of us were staying here for a night out in Manchester for my birthday. It is also close to the main shopping areas. The reception staff were very helpful and welcoming.
Review 92:Having to pay for lockers after checking out. Having to pay for the car park to collect bags after check out. WiFi isn't in the rooms. Plug socket locations in the rooms.
Review 93:The shower wasn't very powerful. Most staff were friendly and good however one girl spoilt it by being extremely rude in her attitude towards me by asking me to 'move' in a very impolite manner without a please or thank you, when I was placing my laundry back into my suitcase. As a PAYING customer you don't expect to me talked to like that. She should learn how to talk to customers.
Review 94:Large hostel in a quiet central location of Manchester in Castlefield. The beds were comfortable and there was good facilities - kitchen and laundry room.
Review 95:The staff were fabulous and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was so good! Great vegetarian options on all menus and could order alcohol and pizza until 1am.. brilliant!
Review 96:could not have food as no one was there to cook so had no food and the wifi was not a good connection and the on sweet was poor no room to move
Review 97:The friendly staff
Review 98:Breakfast expensive at £5.20.
Review 99:It was quiet, and you could only hear the ducks or geese at night from the canal.Helpful staff also. Also not too far from Manchester's science museum.
Review 100:No curtains or divider so unless everyone goes to sleep at the same time, it's quite annoying with the light on etc... Little privacy
Review 101:En-suite bathroom inside the room!
Review 102:Place was nice and relaxing, staff were good. But if I come again I would get a single room. Slept on the floor of the second room as I am disabled and could not manage on top bunks
Review 103:One of the staff was a little bit rude to us upon returning from a night out, i understand noise levels have to be kept to a minimum but the issue could have been dealt with more politely, especially considering this is a youth hostel and loud young groups should be more tolerated.
Review 104:Great for a young group of friends. Plenty of available facilities. Nice atmosphere in the hostel. Staff upon arrival were helpful and friendly.
Review 105:Only bad point if I had to make one was we were in a room near a party of teenagers and there was a lot of noise when trying to get my children to sleep, however I was aware this was a possibility when I booked and it certainly wouldn't put me off booking again
Review 106:Fab hostel, friendly helpful staff and a couple of minutes walk from where we were going in manchester
Review 107:Free wifi wasn't accessible in the rooms, didn't have a power socket to your bed on in the dorm, which should be standard these days. Place lacked atmosphere
Review 108:If we had to mention anything it would be that there was no wifi in the rooms but thats just a tiny one. Great wifi service in the lobby.
Review 109:Very helpfull staff. We've had tickets delivered for the Manchester United game at the hotel. They we're received and guarded, great service. Great location if you're going to visit Old Trafford. A 20 minutes walk of the Northern Quarter if you would like to go for a night out. Clean room with bulk beds. Great value for money.
Review 110:Although we had our own mini bathroom in the room the communal toilets could have been a little cleaner.
Review 111:The location is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout visit. The room was very clean.
Review 112:It was advertised as a 5 bedroom room but it was a 4 1/2 bedroom as the bottom bunk was not a double bed. The guy on the reception at night (12.00pm) on Friday was rude and took over 20 minutes to check us in and said we couldn't pay separetly when we knew we could as we had stayed on the Monday night (checked in at 4pm) and the day staff said we could and was really nice. Not enough plugs on the wall (only 3), and only wifi downstairs. charging for towels is fine (£1-£2) but to give a £5 deposit to use them I thought was annoying.
Review 113:The room was clean. Good location
Review 114:A bit early to check-out, but got to leave my bag in the lockers, so that was fine.
Review 115:It had a very nice look overall, great location, everything in walking distance. Very helpful staff, clean, ensuite bathroom which was great. Definitely a lot better than I expected a hostel to be.
Review 116:The wifi wasn't strong in any of the floors apart from ground floor. Would get good to have a stronger signal.
Review 117:The yha felt very welcoming and was in a great location
Review 118:Wifi op de kamer was er niet, alleen in de lobby.
Review 119:Zeer vriendelijk personeel. Auto kon gratis geparkeerd worden vrijwel naast de ingang. Eten bij de accommodatie is goed.
Review 120:The staff is kind and helpful. One of them didn't know how to spell my country's name, but I think it was okay since the one who had trouble of spelling my country's name was still under training or sth maybe he was too nervous to do so? however, he was patient, so it was all acceptable, not a big problem. As for the room, everything was clean, bed was great too!Highly recommend!
Review 121:It would be much better to have a power area by every bed. In most 4 people room, there is just one bed that is next to the power area. Mine wasn't, and I have to rely on my personal power bank throughout the stay, which was annoying. The 6 people room is better as not only the bathroom and toilet are separate, but every bed has its own power area.
Review 122:In comparison to other hostels I have been, this one was on the quieter side as it has a good share of older travellers. I was there on a business purpose, so that was important.
Review 123:Lack of toilets outside of the rooms. Distance from Picadilly station.
Review 124:Clean rooms, great spirit. Laundry room, games room, and hot breakfast. The bedroom door opens with a card, reducing the noise. The building is really nice.
Review 125:Wifi was not functioning on the day of our visit. I have a hotspot, so it wasn't an issue for us, but it was clearly a problem for all the other guests
Review 126:Friendly staff, excellent accommodation for a hostel, great value. Awesome location!
Review 127:The room had a really bad view to the trash outside. :(
Review 128:It is a very nice hostel located in a central place. The staff were great and I liked the game room.
Review 129:The wall is a bit thin, so a bit noisy in the night when next doors having chat before sleep... -_-||
Review 130:Quiet but pretty central location. Free parking and a lot of parking spaces. The family room is big and clean. Have all the facilities we need including a comfortable Graco baby travel cot! Staffs are very friendly and helpful. The self-catering kitchen is very useful for us coz we have to prepare feeds for a baby. Very good experience!
Review 131:WiFi didn't work in room
Review 132:Great friendly staff booked a triple room but it was railways so slightly noisy but beds are really comfy and the rest of rooms were really quiet so overall a good stay...oh breakfast is fab.
Review 133:The room was very basic, but then it is a hostel and not a hotel.
Review 134:I liked the location and the bar! Breakfast was very good too and a reasonable price.
Review 135:Facilities as described, comfortable bed and shower. Not very high standard, but clean spacious room, just what we expected for the price. Also friendly welcome by reception!
Review 136:The location was not as ideal as i thought with 10 minute walk the tram. No wifi in the room was inconvenient.
Review 137:Staff were very nice and helpful. And the lift is a plus. Restaurants and bars in the area.
Review 138:the place is quite far away from centre..I'm the first time visitor and didn't know how to get there with shuttle bus.
Review 139:the view is good and the food is yummy.
