Reviews for Half Moon Resort

Review 1:Not too many options to enjoy the place presented by hotel's staff

Review 2:Food was good People was nice and friendly Room was clean Housekeeping services good and on time Overall location Excellent

Review 3:Rustic means very old, basic inside amenities like an old cabin up North. But the bed was comfortable.

Review 4:you. Can snorkel 20' from shore in awesome reef.

Review 5:The air conditioner was very loud and had to be turned off at night, as it was too loud to sleep with. Gentle breeze from the outside at night was enough to be comfortable on most nights unless it rained and was very humid.

Review 6:The location is beautiful, right on the bay, basically over a small reef with great snorkeling. Amazing to wake up to such a gorgeous view every day. The staff is very friendly, attentive and sweet. The owners are a wonderful family, who are there to make your stay as nice as possible. Thank you guys! I practice yoga, so they gave me a yoga mat, and extra towels for my practice, always smiling and being helpful with any sightseeing arrangements and suggestions, also invited me to try a variety of local fruit that was exotic and delicious! Food in the restaurant is very good and coffee that comes free with the room is really delicious! I would stay there again!

Review 7:What is there not to like? An ideal romantic place. Very quiet, a 5 min walk to the main drag of West End. The staff was friendly, food was awesome, coffee (free refills!) was really good, local Honduran coffee. The beach was small, but the water clear, and perfect. Make use of the free snorkeling gear.

Review 8:Every single one of the staff were absolutely great, from the taxi driver picking us up at the airport, to the wait staff, to the maid, to the manager. Every cottage has a great location, only a few feet from the ocean. Rooms are comfortable allowing you to have the ocean breeze or the a/c if it's too warm for you.

Review 9:Alot of people (not tourists)hanging around my front porch everyday so no privacy on my front porch. I was in cabin 2 right off the water and by the beach chairs which turned out to be a busier area than I preferred. Coffee wasn't ready until 730 am so had to wait everyday, I'm an early riser when the sun comes up that early (5:20am)

Review 10:Snorkeling was good and steps from the cabins -turtles come into feed every morning on the far side of the sailboat in the grassy area.Breakfast and ceviche was delicious. Location is great for restaurants and bars and it's easy to catch a water taxi to West Bay beach which has awesome sand and snorkeling. Best snorkeling I found on the island.

Review 11:Cold showers and being told breakfast was over just to watch (over coffee) someone who arrived after us being served breakfast...?

Review 12:Friendly staff and good location.

Review 13:No bad experiences, but wish I got a better WiFi connection in the cabin so I could check my email as soon as I wake up.

Review 14:Personal service, friendly staff, next to the shoreline for snorkeling, wonderful people!! Thanks so much to Mattie, Ivan, Sean, Jennie, Sherry, Sue and to all the staff behind the scenes. We had an absolutely beautiful vacation and we look forward to returning in the near fire. Highly recommend Half Moon Resort!!!

Review 15:The cabin was a bit dark. You couldn't close the windows without closing the blinds.

Review 16:I loved the location for snorkeling! I enjoyed being away from the busyness so it was not loud at night, but it was still within walking distance of all the restaurants.

Review 17:The walls are really thin, basically like staying in a little cabin so noises outside wake you up easily. Not so bad though because we didn't want to sleep in too much.

Review 18:We liked the location right on half moon bay close to west end. Nice trees and good restaurant at the resort. Friendly staff and comfortable bed with AC and private bathroom. All we needed.

Review 19:They could spend just few dollards and improve much better the room.but didn't. Many ants and insects in the room.....but we will return to this place

Review 20:location is one of the best you can have

Review 21:Access to water down a tricky staircase....not for the feeble. Drinks were 5 star pricey at "camp". Windows didn't open in room -- no fresh air. No screens On doors-- so buggy.

Review 22:Friendly "camp" atmosphere. Comfortable lounging, delicious dinner.

Review 23:Don't rent a scooter very deadly. Don't travel late at night no street lights very dark.

Review 24:Close to eating, diving, snorkeling, great tanning. Many places close to eat or party fun time.

Review 25:Half Moon was amazing! Our room was about 10 steps from the water with beautiful snorkeling. Close to downtown West End but very quiet at night. Beds were very comfortable! Hot water and AC worked great. The staff were so accommodating!! Can't wait for my return visit!

Review 26:Limited wifi in the guest rooms was the only issue.

Review 27:Casual setting, on the water. Open air restaurant and very friendly staff. Cabins are rustic but clean and comfortable. Wifi is available in the restaurant and lobby area. Intermittent in the rooms, but hey you are on half moon bay who cares about the rest of the world.

Review 28:Nothing it was all good.

Review 29:What was there not to like. Location was awesome literally 30 feet from the water. The Staff Tomas, Jenny, Sean and everyone could not have been friendlier or more honest and trustworthy. Price was great. This is a very genuine place. Sand gets in the room and this is not a boring American hotel room. Do not expect American conveniences. This is why I like to travel it is different. No windows but great wooden storm shutters designed for hurricanes. I loved it.

Review 30:No breakfast included No TV in the rooms

Review 31:Location is perfect.close from bars and restaurants but quiet enough. Excelent breakfast, not included ,and great food in the hotel restsurant . Very rustic and simple instalations but fair enough gor the money payed. Wonderful view. Swimming and snorkel just in front. No beach. Glass botton boat and submarine and svuba clases righ in the hotel..very easy to contact other tours and activities in the island. Ask for Marvin. Free cofee. Free drinking water.

Review 32:Bathroom fixtures are quite shabby but still functional.

Review 33:Great location - right on the waters edge - close to town but far enough away for quietness. Friendly and accommodating staff who always remember your name. Cabin was very rustic but excellent value.

Review 34:I booked by booking.com because I thought that i payed the price for the room, but by checking out they told it was only the desposite and they charged me a considerable extra price for the room,

Review 35:I booked by booking.com because I thought that i payed the price for the room, but by checking out they told it was only the desposite and they charged me an abusive price for the room,

Review 36:Half Moon Resort is located in West End, near the main restaurants, bars and night life. My husband and I stayed in a sea view room, just a few steps from the coral reef, perfect for snorkeling. The room is big. It has two queen comfortable beds and its very clean. There is A/C, private bath with hot water, Wifi, towers and fresh water and coffee to drink. The restaurant is in front of a deck, there is a glass bottom boat and a submarine. There is also a divers shop. the staff is great. So, don't hesite to book a room on this beautiful place.

Review 37:a bit primitive no tv no wi-fi (that works) mi air conditioner almost did not work!.So I get cooked the food is expensive

Review 38:Well situated Clean Quiet Good relation price/quality Kindness of the personal The personal care for you

Review 39:The staff went out of their way to be especially generous. We got engaged on our first night, and they arranged for a bottle of champagne for us. One of us also has a chronic pain problem, and they helped us get in contact with the correct people.

Review 40:Our cabin room was large with comfortable beds, excellent air conditioning, and a porch with hammock that overlooked the reef. Snorkel gear is complimentary with the room, and the best underwater viewing in Half Moon Bay is 10m from your cabin. Although it is not beachfront, the beaches at Half Moon Bay are less than a 5min walk. The staff is very hospitable, coffee and filtered water are complimentary all day long, and the price is just right. I highly recommend Half Moon Resort.

Review 41:Having to leave!!!

Review 42:Location was perfect close to town but far enough to feel secluded. Staff were awesome made us feel like part of there family, so nice.

Review 43:There was a cockroach on the ceiling and water leaking in through the roof. Some of the panels of the windows were broken (not glass, just wood boards). If you are into being in a shack very close to the ocean, it is just fine. If you are use to western standards, this is more like a cabin in a state park rather than a "resort". We were only here for our first night in though so maybe we were jaded from our long flight. If you need a early morning cab ride, don't arrange it with the hotel - they will charge you more and send their friend with a toyota over who wants to make some money on the side.

Review 44:The location was pretty beautiful, cabins right on the beaches edge. It was nice to only share the cabin with one neighbor, two units next to each other. We flew into Roatan and found that Half Moon Bay had cabins right on the beach, which was pretty convenient. The cabins themselves came with filtered water, a nice A/C system, a shower, soap, and two beds.

Review 45:No TV in room (who needs one?!) Sand fleas (Were everywhere on the island though, so bring bug spray) Food in the restaurant was a little pricey (but there were much better places a short walk away)

Review 46:Right next to our dive site Beautiful views and right on the water Comfy beds Cold air condition Hot water Safe and quiet location 2-3 minute walk from restaurants and bars Sweet staff

Review 47:Microscopic jelly fish Which nobody can control So as far as the resort goes nothing in our opinion should ever change

Review 48:The food is great The staff is friendly and remembers us after a year The snorkeling and water activities are incomparable

Review 49:Being disturbed my another guest..knocking on door..

Review 50:La vegetacion

Review 51:Beautiful! And amazing staff.

Review 52:room inside not good .

Review 53:Very good

Review 54:The actual water from Honduras.

Review 55:Cabins close to the water.

Review 56:Envasion of people not staying on the property even without cruises ships in dock

Review 57:Complete way to unplug

Review 58:The units overlooked half moon bay and provided easy access to swim, snorkel and play in the water.

Review 59:It was a quiet hotel with friendly staff, located right on the water, I really couldnt as for a better location.

Review 60:No plug in sink!

Review 61:Excellent & accommodating staff;beautiful sea on door step; easy walking distance to town

Review 62:The windows and door are open to open.

Review 63:The proximity of the beach.

Review 64:location so good they brought in cruise people by the van full during the day

Review 65:Location on end of bay with ocean 20 feet away, short walk to town

Review 66:The location, the people (staff), the service....all very good

Review 67:Would of loved frig in room

Review 68:Great staff very relaxing vacation nice beach chairs easy snorkeling

Review 69:Cool staff, superb view from the restaurant, direct access to the water.

Review 70:super chill. close to the water. close to restaurants. quiet.

Review 71:We only stayed one night and everything was okay in this hotel

Review 72:Everything

Review 73:Being asked each day if I wanted a massage.

Review 74:The Dive shop is close, the restaurant attached is handy.

Review 75:Nothing. I really enjoyed my stay

Review 76:The location was absolutely spot on. This hotel got the better deal with the snorkelling position

Review 77:Barbara, the owner went the second and third mile to help and serve us.

Review 78:The staff is very friendly and helpful. Thank you to Marvin for helping us arrange snorkeling and to Shawn for the wonderful service!

Review 79:Nothing

Review 80:Excellent place to stay - the cabin was comfortable, clean and had a great view out on to the sea. Location was great, about 5-10mins from the main strip. Amazing snorkelling directly from the hotel - saw incredible numbers of fish/crabs/cuttlefish/eels/lobster etc. Great staff, super friendly & helpful.

Review 81:It would be great if they had a pool but even so, the sea was right there for a quick cool down when you needed it. The rooms are a little dark. Brighter rooms are always more cheerful but that's just my opinion! Overall, it was great and I would recommend it!

Review 82:Just about everything. The staff was very nice like all people we met in roatan. The location was excellent an close to west end so we could walk but far enough where the noise didn't keep you up.

Review 83:They could have a tv in room.the restaurant there is good, but a little high.

Review 84:The location is great.50 yards from the water.good value for the money.close to restaurants in west end.

Review 85:I would have liked to have a safe in the room, but by the second day Ifelt pretty good about leaving everything in the room.

Review 86:Luckily we didn't experience the cruise ship rush so it was supermellow. The grounds are beautiful and great for snorkeling right outyour door. It is rustic but it is clean and comfortable. The staff isvery friendly and helpful. Marvin, who rents snorkel gear took us outfor a great snorkel trip. I would definitely stay here again!

Review 87:Suff might be a little bit more ready to help. Some people were really nice and friendly - the son of the owner is a really nice guy, but some other people were simply rude.

Review 88:Location is perfect. Nice and quiet area. Close to the nice diving shop - Ecodivers.

Review 89:Beach access there isn't any without a walk but there is a path to get to snorkeling on the property which is great

Review 90:Location is perfect. Staff super friendly and helpful. Great place to learn to dive with ecodivers. Snorkeling super. Good food. Great prices

Review 91:I was truly satisfied here. Only thing I didn't like was that on one very hot night, I DID have to use the Air Conditioning, so I was glad it was there. Not really a complaint - just pointing out it was good to have A/C if you need it, but it was much more enjoyable on all the other nights when I didn't need it, and could fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.

Review 92:I absolutely LOVED how close to the water my cabin was. With the open-air screens & shutters and ceiling fan, I fell asleep every night with a gentle breeze, and the sound of the ocean waves right outside my window. One of the best sleeping experiences I've ever had, and for only $45! It was also nice to NOT have a TV in my room. Apparently, the hotel has a no TV policy, which is excellent, because it forces you to either read, enjoy the beach, or go out and meet people, by taking away the "safety blanket" of a TV. If you really want to "get away" to another country, without just getting a different version of America in another country, I'd HIGHLY suggest staying at a place like this. Best bargain I've ever found.

Review 93:The restaurant had great food but if you're looking for rice and beans for dinner, hit the street taco places since Half Moon serves delicious seafood, etc. but no beans...

Review 94:The cabins are right on the water and have a comfortable hammock on the porch. The staff were some of the most friendly people I met on the island! The snorkel gear was free to use and the bay was calm for swimming. The shower had hot water and a good showerhead. I recommend this to all travelers who enjoy their solitude and a rustic place to stay.

Review 95:Expensive restaurant, bugs in the toilets.

Review 96:Close to the beach. Marvin-snorkeling instructor was extremely helpful, showed us amazing coral reef spots. Snorkeling equipment is free ofcharge, whilst elsewhere it costs about $5-$10 per day to rent. Theyhave their own power generator - whis is a big plus, as there was nopower in the island good few times during our stay.

Review 97:The hotel bathrooms...they could be updated a bit

Review 98:Loved the location. Bar and resteraunt right on site...great ambiance. The rooms are not the nicest..but who really plans on spending time in the room when on vacation. Great staff! Loved the tranquility and beautiful ocean! We had a great time and would go back again. Thanks!

Review 99:The cruise ship people had a way of sometimes spoiling the peace and quiet that this place has to offer. But they are usually only there from about 10am-2pm and only on certain days of the week. Overall, it did not take away from our positive experience here at HMB. The Wi-Fi didn't reach our room. But looking back, that was probably for best!

Review 100:We stayed for a week during March break at HMB along with our 14 and 12 yr old kids. We had room 9 which has 3 double beds, a bathroom with shower, a/c and its own private deck with hammock. Rustic..yes, but clean, comfortable, quiet and very affordable! The people working at this resort are all super nice and friendly and extremely helpful when planning any day trips or excursions on the island. Food was good but a bit cheaper in town. In my opinion, HMB offers the best bang for your buck overall and it is withing walking distance to everything you need. Its location is perfect...right on the water, snorkeling right off its shores, just a short walk from town which has tons of food options as well as taxi cabs, diving centers, shops, atm, local vendors, and a slightly bigger sandy beach from where to view a beautiful sunset every evening. I highly recommend this place!

Review 101:Sewage smell1 out of 7 days seemed to get fixed but we know can beproblem when travelling central america, otherwise excellent.

Review 102:Super location snorkling right out front, extremely good helpful staffespecially Marvin who took us on a great snorking trip.Good resturant onsite and lots of excursions can be arranged on site.We took advantage offishing trip also. For the price you can't beat this place.

Review 103:it was my 11yr old son and I and he would've liked a TV in the room but we had no complaints.

Review 104:loved the view! awesome snorkeling with lots of coral and sea life right off the dock! staff was very cool and the bed was comfy. they also offered free coffee and had a thermos fill of ice water in the room every morning which we really appreciated. ** fyi - room number 5 is close enough to use the free wifi on the patio ; )

Review 105:Bedbugs! When I addressed this issue with the front desk I was told it was "ants" and the Caribbean doesn't have bed bug problems. Well I found a big on the first morning and second night. Each morning I woke with bites similar to bed bugs. Not cool at all.

Review 106:Loved the location, the access to snorkeling and the hammocks.

Review 107:When the cruise ships came in every day, some of the people from the cruise ships would come and snorkel at the hotel and take up the snorkeling equipment and the beach chairs. If you want to snorkel without a dozen other people, then go earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon when the cruises are gone. They don´t have any televisions which would have been nice. However, the price appropriately reflected that it was not a luxury hotel.

Review 108:Given the price of other comparable hotels in the area, I thought the hotel was a good deal. The staff really helped me out with all of my questions regarding taxis, the public bus, and exchanging money. Always friendly and respectful. The property is nicely located away from the loud bars and restaurants, but everything is still within a 3 minute walk. There is a nice coral reef located at the hotel where you can snorkel and see some decent fish and other marine life. The snorkel equip. is free for guests. VERY IMPORTANT - ask for cabin 6, 7, or 8, as the other cabins are by where the snorkeling is done and the restaurant, both of which can get loud and busy. The beds were excellent and the mattresses very comfortable. It also has airconditioning which is nice.

Review 109:Nothing occurs to me!

Review 110:Very well positioned and very friendly staff. Excellent value for money - many other places we looked at were much more expensive for somewhere similar.

Review 111:The prices at the restaurant were pretty high. In addition, on top of the high price they add tax and something they call a "service fee".

Review 112:I liked that the hotel was located in a Bay. The bay had a lot of marine life and it was easily accessible. In addition it was far from the hustle and bustle of the town but close enough to walk.

Review 113:my only complaint is the bottom sheets on the bed were not fitted and loose so they came off the mattress during the night.

Review 114:Staff were excellent. very helpful and friendly. Owners live on site and were very friendly. Great location. Snorkel right off the deck. price was very fair. I will be returning to Half Moon resort in the future

Review 115:I felt right at home here. It's a bit of a rustic feel, but for the price, I would do it again in a heartbeat! It's great access to the bay, and has a lovely patio to eat breakfast on. And the hammocks are really nice!

Review 116:This is a great spot and would come here again. It's close to West End but a tad bit away to give you a break from the crowds, etc. The staff is great. This is not fancy - it's rustic. But the mattresses were very comfortable and it was a great value.

Review 117:Half Moon Resort provided just the right type of relaxing and convenient accommodations I was looking for. Being able to walk right out my room and into the bay for snorkeling whenever I wanted was a great bonus. The rooms were simple but clean and comfortable. Another great convenience was a newly opened dive shop right on the property. Ecodivers, though fairly new, offered great prices and much appreciated flexibility. I would highly recommend both Half Moon Resort and Ecodivers for travellers looking to head to Roatan.

Review 118:A small fridge would be great in the cabins to store some basic foodstuff.

Review 119:Nice cabins with superb location only a few steps from the sea. Nice restaurant with great staff, free Wi-Fi and a terrace over water. We really had a great time at Half Moon Resort.

Review 120:The food in the restaurant was always over-salted and burnt. There are many good restaurants in town (try the Coconut Tree). Cabins were a bit too rustic for our tastes, but we would stay here again.

Review 121:Beautiful location. Best snorkeling of my life, right off the beach! Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 122:My cabin was in desperate need of paint and heavy cleaning and new toilet seat . Many vendors hanging out around the cabins all day repeatedly offering massages, jewelry, etc. Restaurant was mediocre, but it was an easy walk to better restaurants.

Review 123:Location is good, staff were very attentive. Good snorkeling right in front of the cabins.

Review 124:The rooms could be updated a bit and they could use some soundproofing.

Review 125:The staff was very friendly and accommodating and we loved getting the chance to meet such excellent people. The resort's access to Half Moon Bay and Roatan's West End is unbeatable. With the ocean being right outside your door, getting out and snorkeling was effortless.

Review 126:We felt like our privacy was utterly invaded and non-existent at this resort! We had the last cabin on the end, farthest from town. In addition to a "massage therapist" permanently parking her table under the window on the side of our cabin and badgering us regarding having a massage every time we saw her, the guy who rents the snorkel gear to non-resort-guests was on the other side of the double cabin setup! Additionally, bus loads of cruise ship tourists would park behind our cabin, with 30 people at a time strolling from the parking lot past our double cabin to get to the glass bottom boat dock, as well as hang out on the lawn chairs directly in front of our cabin (and several of the other cabins). Very annoying. We also felt that "rustic" didn't adequately convey how poorly maintained these cabins were. Certainly a fresh coat of paint inside would help immensely! As would coordinating bedspreads and curtains.

Review 127:Staff was very nice and helpful. Always friendly. Went out of their way to help us resolve a travel-related issue. Being able to walk down a few steps to go snorkeling was nice. And the location was close enough to town, but also far enough away from the busy-ness. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced everyday.

Review 128:The only negative comment would be that the walls between the cabins (ours was a double) is quite thin and if you are next to noisy people you may need to wear ear plugs :)

Review 129:Before we arrived, the staff arranged transportation for us from the airport to the resort and from the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and comfortable. The staff was laid back and the setting is gorgeous. Our cabin was slightly rustic with no TV or alarm clock. The cabin had no glass windows, just screens and fencing- that really connected us to the sounds of the sounds of nature and the ocean just steps from out door. The Restaurant was always busy and the food looked great. We ate a few appetizers but never got the chance to try their seafood which looked amazing. The walk into West End took about 5 minutes so the location could not be better. The snorkeling out front was not as good compared to the other amazing spots on the reef but it was still good. We stayed here only one night but came back several times to visit throughout our week on Roatan and next time we would like to stay here for our entire trip. Great location, staff, price and restaurant! Thumbs Up!

Review 130:The water pressure in the showers was a little weak.

Review 131:The close access to West End and the local bay. The staff were amazing - friendly and eager to serve.
