Reviews for Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa

Review 1:One could argue that it is quite far from town. They provide a shuttle service and bikes as it is quite a walk.

Review 2:The hotel has nice grounds. the guides are very good and they offer some really nice hikes.

Review 3:The best experience ever! From the excursions, stunning and well organized, with a broad selection for sporty and less sporty; to the restaurant serving delicious dishes and flexible to accommodate any of your special request, to the kindness of the staff, the beautiful location and comfortable rooms, the stunning view on the desert when you wake up in the morning, the spa...it was one of the most beautiful trips I did, the landscape, the nature are simply breathtaking, and the hotel makes you appreciate the whole experience to the fullest! I HIGHLY recommend it!

Review 4:There is nothing that we do not like. Everything was excelente and is excellent.

Review 5:We liked the physical and emotional environment of the Hotel Alto Atacama. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. Our room was espetacular. Web could enjoy the fool moon in the two last nights at our room, as it was only for us. The last day, on saturday we had a barbecue at the pool amazing. We are originally from Brasil, living in USA - Floirda, but the Alto Atacama Hotel barbecue was good as ours in our homeland. The architecture and landscaping of the hotel couldn't be more adequate and beautiful, it is perfect and not invasive in the nature. Mo words to describe the good gastronomy. The guiders and tours were awesome. Love the walk in the Death Valley during the day and at night to admire the full moon. Congrats for the owners and for the staff that runs everyday the Alto Atacama Lodge and Spa. Grazi and Carlos

Review 6:No room service, limited mineral water supply (on request)

Review 7:Everything was great, from facilities, location, amazing food, good wine list, wonderful spa and supportive team in getting tours arranged with knowlegdable local partners

Review 8:This is a humble yet luxurious oasis in Atacama. The staff did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and special. We were looking for a place to experience adventures but also to relax. Alto Atacama gave us both. Thank you for everything!

Review 9:The spa is designed beautifully and the massages were wonderful and very professional, but there was not really much else to enjoy in the spa. I arrived a bit early to use the steam and sauna, but the steam was not working and I did not realize I needed to notify them before to turn on the sauna. This was kind of a bummer because one of the reasons I chose the all inclusive was to use the spa facilities. My only improvement would be fix the steam room and have the sauna ready!

Review 10:I spend 4 months in Buenos Aires during their summer and need to leave the country and come back to renew my visa. Usually I go to Uruguay, but I saw this lodge in a travel magazine and decided to try it.....and I am so glad I did.Everything was highly organized which made it very easy to come for only 3 nights/4 days. They pick you up at the airport and when you arrive they explain all the different excursion options and coordinate everything for you. I advise to also give yourself some down time to enjoy the hotel grounds, pools and wonderful massages at the spa!The setting of the lodge is SPECTACULAR as is the architecture and landscaping. Exactly like all the photos on the website. Lying by the pool looking at the beautiful red mountains is delightful.I had 3 massage treatments at the spa. All three were amazing, but my favorite was the Subay-with the pouches of herbs. The spa is designed beautifully and the massages were wonderful and very professional, but there was not really much else to enjoy in the spa. I arrived a bit early to use the steam and sauna, but the steam was not working and I did not realize I needed to notify them before to turn on the sauna. This was kind of a bummer because one of the reasons I chose the all inclusive was to use the spa facilities. The food is out of this world. Amazing breakfast with hot options like scrambled eggs, even fresh mashed avocado. It really had everything, not just a few cold cuts and fruit like many places. The lunches and dinners were fresh, gourmet and delicious, with daily specials. The staff was wonderful. From reception to the wait staff (especially Monica) to the amazing guides. The guides were so organized, enthusiastic and seemed like they truly loved their jobs.I did 3 excursions: 1-The trek through the gorge with cactus-so beautiful, not super vigorous, but some mild climbing involved. 2-Moon valley with sunset- espectacular! 3-Geysers-so glad I did it.

Review 11:The spa, even though beautiful, the treatment was really poor. Had a leg massage and she didn't do the front of my legs...

Review 12:I loved Everything!!!! Food, service, comfort, tour bookings, recommendations, EVERYTHING WAS FANTASTIC!!! Though expensive, so worth every penny!!!

Review 13:There's nothing I didn't like

Review 14:Fantastic excursions, local knowledge. Luxury accommodations and inspired decor. Friendly staff who were very helpful. Amazing landscape and fascinating history of atacama.

Review 15:Food was awful - you can't cook avant garde french cuisine in that remote a place - keep it simple. The rooms should have a tv for down time

Review 16:Tour staff were excellent and other guests interesting

Review 17:Loved everything

Review 18:Perfect hotel for our honeymoon - amazing service, delicious food, great wine, beautiful furnishings, great excursions

Review 19:The poor quality of cooking of the restaurant There is no television in the room

Review 20:The staff's service The well planned excursion

Review 21:Views are spectacular and facilities are excellent. Make sure to leave a day just to enjoy the Lodge.

Review 22:Very expensive.

Review 24:Fabulous

Review 25:Reavaliar sistema de transfer entre o povoado e o hotel

Review 26:do hotel

Review 27:It is not suitable for young people.

Review 29:Mosquitos in room made for restless last night especially my partner she was awake constantly with the buzzing

Review 30:Staff very very customer focused

Review 31:Waiking up at 5 AM for the trip to the Geyzers

Review 32:The service was outstanding

Review 33:Transportation is poor, service is not always attentive

Review 34:The location was great, the facility is very nice, the pool areas are beautiful

Review 35:Beautiful location, exceptional pools, spas and facilities. Once in a lifetime experience.

Review 36:TV sets in the rooms should be a standard. The quality of the food is unstable. Sometimes very good, sometimes below the standard of the rest.

Review 37:The property is fantastic and well located. Staff is very friendly.

Review 38:This place is magical! The excursions are organized in the most excellent manner, the hotel staff is just lovely and the interior design and gardens allow to experience the beauty of the Atacama in a profound way!

Review 39:The extremely welcoming environment of the hotel and the concern for the comfort of the guests on the part of the staff made for an excellent stay. The beauty and quiet of the location, the outstanding food (including a daily vegetarian entree) and wine, the fascinating tours with excellent guides and drivers and the opportunity to get to know the other guests were all delightful.

Review 40:Nothing

Review 41:Staff is very friendly. The location is great and the architecture of the resort matches so perfectly the landscape, you can hardly see it before you are right there. Food was also very fresh and good. I just wished the cook was not so very fond of coriander. The excursions were also very well organised. All the guides we had, especially Arturo and Martin, knew a lot about plants, history and everything we wanted to know about the Atacama. The whole package (5 nights) was well worth the money.

Review 42:To little shady areas at the 5 pools. The spa partner massage we did was from the pure massage treatment pretty much ok, but it wasn't an extraordinary experience. Nobody welcomed us with a few explanatory words, we weren't asked if the pressure is ok, at the end of the massage the two massage guys (women and men) just left the room and let us alone with no word of good bey or question if we liked it... As the whole spa area is really nice therefore we think if the staff would be more trained towards making the massage "an super positive 360 degree experience" this would add a lot of value. But again the massage by itself was ok.

Review 43:The whole design of the facility, the extreme friendly hotel staff, the super well organized excursions.

Review 44:Our stay at Alto Atacama was unforgettable! The hotel has great facilities, is environment friendly and really blends in with the incredible landscape it is surrounded by. The excursions were well designed and executed, with friendly, knowledgable guides and drivers. The food was exquisite too - we stayed full board for five days and were taken by the variety and quality. Definitely recommend to any visiting he Atacama desert.

Review 45:A little too far out from San Pedro

Review 46:The hotel is in a lovely spot. Quiet and peaceful. The staff were knowledgable and kind. The swimming pool area was wonderful with 6 pools. Rooms good. Wif Fi good. The gardens around the hotel were amazing.

Review 47:No tourist information for bed and breakfast customers. Disinterest inus by staff as we did not do all inclusive package. Limited menu optionsand food quality mixed. Not always easy to get into town. Poor roomlighting. Poor quality mountain bikes.

Review 48:Beautiful views. Large bedrooms. Well landscaped. Quiet. We enjoyed theoutdoor shower in Tilo room.

Review 49:The rooms were a bit dusty, but probably the best they can do given thelocation. This is probably still the best, most comfortable hotel in thearea and it is truly a fantastic experience. There was a screw up withour check out date (they had us checking out a day earlier thanplanned), which could have been either the hotel or booking.com'sfault, but either way they promptly addressed the issue and workedeverything out. There is free wifi, though it is slow and spotty. Butunless you're planning to spend your days online, you trulycan't go wrong with this place!

Review 50:An amazing hotel in an amazing place. The staff is helpful and friendly.Macarena, the "activity supervisor", welcomes you withinminutes of your arrival to answer all your questions and tell you abouttours and excurions, and checks in with you in person every day. Tons ofexcursions available every day -- or you if you prefer, you can justrelax on the breathtaking grounds or the spa. The food was the biggestsurprise. It was worthy of a top notch restaurant, with a variety ofcreative and delicious dishes.

Review 51:The hotel charges for everything!! And the prices of the trips andothers are abusive!!they charge to use jacuzzi, sauna etc ... the food at the hotel is very expensive and is not good, very little food and tasteless! bikes hotel has no maintenance ... the wheel of my bike broke 20 km from the hotel! not recommend!!

Review 52:The hotel is far away, but the view is wonderful!!!

Review 53:Spa experience was just OK, nothing great. Staff that serviced the hotel room was not that good, did not replace wash (face) clothes daily for example, removed loose change from side of bed on table (not right to do). One tour guide we had spent more time texting on his Blackberry than talking to the guests in the van.

Review 54:Setting of facility was excellent, views from hotel room very good and quality of rooms (size and decor) were top notch. The alpaca and llamas on site were a very nice touch. Meals were good (choice and quality) and restaurant staff very attentive. Some tour guides excellent.

Review 55:Spa experience was just OK, nothing great. Some of the tour guides were not very informative, one guide we had spent more time playing with his Blackberry texting than talking to the guests in the van.

Review 56:Meals were excellent, good choices each day for all meals. Restaurant staff very good and attentive. Location is excellent, views to mountains from rooms excellent, quality of rooms also very good. Some of the tour guides were also very informative and made the tours an enjoyable experience.

Review 57:Great location, excellent facilities especially pools and spa, interesting and informative excursions.

Review 58:The place is hard to find. We had to cross the river to get there.

Review 59:The pools, the food, the helpful staff and the great atmosphere.

Review 60:Food was good, excursions very well organized and guides were excellent.
