Reviews for Domos Los Abuelos
Review 1:We really recommend this hotel. Mary, the recepcionist, was really kindful and helped us in the first days. The room was big and clean as well as the bathroom. The hotel is not far from downtown. It was an awesome atacama experience!
Review 2:+ very poor breakfast quality compared to the price of the accomodation + poor english speaking staff + pool wasnt ready to use during first day
Review 3:+ nice rooms but without a/c! + close to city center and nice restaurants and bars
Review 4:One minor hint for improvement: some shadow near the pool area at the Domos would be nice, e.g. a pavillon etc
Review 5:Comfortable bed, great/spacious shower (warm water), breakfast buffet (with scrambled eggs if wished), clean pools, nice terrace with hammock, less than a 10min walk to city center (recommend to bring along a little torch for the way home at night)
Review 6:in the night it is very dark to walk from the city centre to the hotel, WiFi only works around the reception area, breakfast starts quite late so you cannot enjoy it when you go on tours, not very helpful staff ( I had to extend my stay through booking.com to get the same price in stead of at the reception desk)
Review 7:very good bed, nice bathroom with a good shower, original design of the rooms in the small domes, you can leave your luggage on the day of departure without any issue
Review 8:Need more shades at the pool and hammocks area! A fan in the bunk bed room would be great for summer months。 During the day time it is better to open the windows otherwise at early evening it can be still very hot。no wifi in the domos but can use at the dining room and pool area
Review 9:It is special. The breakfast is the best during our visit in chile! The staff work really hard to maintain the property! Room is made up every day。 and it is only 10 min walk to the main street! We are in the shared bathroom, shower is strong and hot water early day and night!
Review 10:No wifi in the dome and not a comfortable place with wifi outside of the office. Our dome was in a windy, dusty area so it was also difficult to sit outside. The pool area needs some shadey seating. The noise from building additional domes grew old fast. The idea is great, but the management is not keeping up.
Review 11:The domes inside are quite comfortable, clean and roomy. The bed is very comfortable and firm. Great shower with hot water. The office staff were very nice.
Review 12:The hot water stopped working a couple of times. The staff were very prompt at fixing the problem each time.
Review 13:The domes were a good size, with a huge bed, and good size private bathroom. Each dome had its own outdoor terrace, with chairs and table - lovely for sitting outside. There is also a tiny pool (too small to swim, really) but it's a nice spot to sit and relax. We used the common bathroom facilities (in the camping area) after checkout, and they were super clean. The location is slightly out of town, but not far. Maybe 5mins walk, which is nice. The staff were helpful, and the breakfast was very good. If it's a sunny morning, you can take a tray back to your terrace and have breakfast outdoors.
Review 14:in our hut (2+3) there was no wifi (but available next to reception and breakfast hut)
Review 15:Nice idea with the small personal huts incl a terrace and hammock, silent and safe surrounding, friendly staff made it possible to switch hut to one with double bed :) easy short walk to "town"
Review 16:Loved our stay here. It is great value for money. The Domes/rooms are not large but are more than adequate. Everything was new and clean. Very comfortable pillows and beds. Excellent heating. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is about 10 minutes walk from the centre of town. We liked this as it was nice and quiet at night. There is a dark section of road so take a torch with you. We did not feel unsafe though (2 women in our 50's). The wifi was good but was only available in reception or the breakfast room. I highly recommend this place and would not hesitate to stay here again.
Review 17:No wi-fi in bedroom, however the Breakfast room is open for you to chill out and use the wifi in peace/meet other travellers. I would 100% stay here next San Pedro visit
Review 18:Staff were very friendly and helpful despite not speaking a single word of English! This place is amazing for relaxing in a hammock and watching the milky-way! The huts are so kool and have awesome powerful HOT showers! Location is oout the way of noise and light pollution- making an awesome view of the night sky!! Breakfast is amazing! Very good value!
Review 19:Shame the pool was being re-painted
Review 20:The warmth (in May and June the ability of the building to warm you in the evening purely from its own retained sun light heat, really comes into its own). Staff are super friendly and really happy to help.
Review 21:Nice room. Good beds. Clean. Pool. Parking. Be aware - 1.5km from center, so if you do not have car, be ready to walk. By car it's just couple minutes.
Review 22:From the city to Domos by night there is no public illumination at all for 250meters. Remember to bring some light with you.
Review 23:+ Staff + Big apartments + Great shower
Review 24:We had a fantastic time at Domos Los Abuelos, the rooms were great, its so hot in the desert but in the day the rooms were cool and at night they were warm. The facilities there are great, 2 pools, an area you can use for BBQ's which we did and had such a great day doing this with some friends, we were able to use the cuttlery and crockery from the kitchen and also the fridge etc. There are 2 wifi options which mean you have excellent signal everywhere which I needed for work. There are previous comments about the lane being dark and not great at night, we were 2 young women travellers and we had no issue, the road is sfae and there are some lights along the way, it is a 3 minute walk to the main street, location was great. I will be going back here one day!!!!
Review 25:Dogs barking all night long are really annoying, but it's still probably more quiet than in town.
Review 26:Close to town, but far enough out to be quiet at night (besides the barking dogs). Free wifi that usually worked ok, slow, but ok. Free breakfast every morning. Room cleaned daily. Each Dome is its own room with a deck. Small pool to play in. Bikes if you would rather ride than walk to town. Free, secure parking if you have a rental car.
Review 27:In a domo for 3, there is a double bed and the third person has to sleep on a matrass on the ground.
Review 28:The 2 pools are well maintained and the domes are a very cool way to spend the night in the desert, the keep cool in the day en warm at night. They are acommodated with a big bathroom and the water is always warm. Service was excellent, the girl at the front desk helped us out so many times, even to avoid tourist traps. The location is only 5min walk to the center, but fun to be a bit out of the tourist area. I recommend !!
Review 29:The Domos is a 10 min or so walk to the town centre, not a problem during the day but slightly scary at night when the town street lights go off early. The walk is interspersed with private properties and free plots so have a torchlight and be alert if you are a solo traveller at night. Reception is not staffed 24 h and the front gate is locked at around 12 am so have this in mind when you are out at night. I really wish the garden lights inside the property turned off for some part of the night so that you can admire the starry Atacama sky from the hammocks outside each domo! There are no kitchen facilities in the rooms (even drinking glasses) and the rooms are very tiny but most of the time in San Pedro will be spent on touring and not indoors.
Review 30:The individual domos are very small and cozy, cool during the day and warm in the cold Atacama nights (also provided is a generous amount of blankets). The rooms are cleaned every day and the bathroom is spotless. The girl at reception was friendly and professional, check-in and check-out was very fast and I had no problems leaving a bag to store for a day after check out. Airport transfer is possible directly to the hotel and most tours pick you up from the hotel as well.
Review 31:The location was superb, nice for star gazing. Furthermore the staff was more than willing to help out. We liked our stay very much!!
Review 32:Very nice Staff
Review 33:Lovely rooms/houses, great breakfast and very friendly staff. The room was very clean and the location was good, about 10 minutes to the center.
Review 34:You have to sit near reception to use the wifi which can be a little annoying.
Review 35:was a nice stay
Review 36:Location is a bit out of town so if walking at night can feel a little unsafe
Review 37:Excellent staff and good rooms
Review 38:wlan doesnt work in the room
Review 39:nice room, great breakfast, good to relax because its a short walk from the center (not many people around),
Review 40:None
Review 41:The bed is so comfortable, nice and warm. The bathroom is large and the show is perfect for me.
Review 42:WLAN does not work with door closed.
Review 43:Lovely "Domos" with big bathroom and refridgerator. Every house has its own area to barbecue and relax.
Review 44:Wifi was slow and room was really hot when returned at night (but fan helped to cool it off)
Review 45:Very friendly staff, clean and convenient to the city
Review 46:the staff were incredible, really helpful boking tours and taxis for us - even after we left and moved on. Incredible value for money 5 mins from the centre of it all. Great rooms really spacious.
Review 47:I think it was overpriced. We had 3 domes in our party, one of which the bathroom was so tiny it was hard to get in and close the door, and you had to bend down to see in the mirror (and I am not very tall!). One of our domes had twin beds and the mattresses were too big for the bases which meant when you sat down on the side it tipped up, and in the other the head of the bed was sloping downhill slightly which makes for not such a great night sleep. There was nowhere to hang towels in the room which doesn´t seem like a problem until you have a shower before you go to bed! The breakfast was pretty terrible for the price we were paying and they were working on the roofings of our domes during our stay as they were unfinished (or possibly damaged by the rain just before our stay - translation issue regarding this). BBQ was tiny and obviously had never been cleaned - probably because there didn´t seem to be any washing up facilities.
Review 48:The lady at reception was excellent - always very helpful and attentive, it was close to town and it had a swimming pool and a dip pool which were quite nice. Tours arranged through the campsite were well organised and priced inline with everything else offered in town. Prompt transfers, also organised through the hostel. Relatively clean.
Review 49:The shower was nice and with an open side. But this design made projected water ran in the room, and the floor was not even making it difficult to clean and wipe.
Review 50:The rooms in domes are very nice The pool for the domes is very nice as well We were very warmly welcome and served by super nice and competent staff. We were also well helped for organizing our tours.
Review 51:The hostel is not good as photo shows but it is economical. the only thing I want to complain is the staff clean my room while they granted we could check out a little bit later. This is hard to accept.
Review 52:Nothing important, excepted the cold in the shower room soon in themorning, but the water turned on hot quickly, so nothing really wrong.
Review 53:The quiet (june), the originality of the dome room nicely decorated. Noheat but warm and pretty blanquets. Kind and shy staff. Clean.
Review 54:Swimming had like 20 cm of green water with some homegrown fauna inside.Rooms are small which s not sufficiently presented at booking. They look larger at the photos. A little out of centre but if you are not afraid of going five minutes in rather dark conditions, its all right.
Review 55:The staff was quite helpful trying to assist us in finding anotheraccommodation for the next night as we get stuck in San Pedro due toheavy rain (yes you are reading it right :-)We found out that Domos Los Abuelos is fair value for money in comparison with other options. Next day we slept in a hostel room w/o anything for only 15 USD less. Overall we were quite satisfied.
Review 56:We loved every thing, except the wifi was only available in reception and dining area.
Review 57:The staff Paulo, and Maria were excellent, Paulo had good English, which was great. They were very helpful with all our requests. The Domes are interesting, clean and comfortable. Lovely hot showers. Location very good and only a short walk to restaurants and shopping.
Review 58:No hot water one day, next day no water at all. Windows with no insects screens, so room full of mosquitos and flies at night.
Review 59:Great eco-accomodation, very helpful staff. Clean and comfortable. 10 min walk from town, very quiet.
Review 60:Incorrect map location shown Intermittent electricity No windowscreens Dismal breakfast No place to unpack clothes Inappropriate forbusiness travel
Review 61:Unique architecture Reasonably clean Comfortable beds Appropriate forcamping/leisure travel
Review 62:Disappointing: not what it pretends to be. Over priced for what it offers. Pool did not look at all clean. Grounds and dinning room unfinished and messy.
Review 63:Our shower wasn't very reliable when it came to having hot water. Breakfast started quite late, at 8.30. Most excursions start earlier than that. We had to pay by cash and since there is only 1 foreign friendly ATM in San Pedro, this is not ideal. Walking around with a large sum of money neither. Keep in mind that it can be a long walk from town in the burning sun, especially with luggage.
Review 64:The design of the cottages was very innovative. They are situated in very quiet surroundings. Staff was nice and helpful. Also try La Ruca, owned by the same family!
Review 65:Los Abuelos is a camping place (as stated on the invoice). They havecreated a few igloo style bungalows. On the last day, we had 9 bigcampervans who parked just in front of our rooms (and created powershortages). Los Abuelos does anything to make money: the (nice) pool ispacked with local inhabitants who can come and spend the day if they payan entrance fee. A nice camping place but nothing to do with a hotel. The booking description is very misleading.
Review 66:Decent breakfast interesting architecture, but very bad finishing ofthese igloo style rooms
Review 67:This is essentially a camping place and there were nights that therewere just way too many very large campers right up next to the domes. One night they kept tripping the power. They also kept their powerfuloutside lights on which shone into our dome. While I liked Domos notsure I would recommend it unless you are adventurous and deal easilywith problems. The hot water was iffy at best but this happensthroughout the region. Also do not count on using your Credit card here.I ended up just paying in dollars
Review 68:There are presently 4 domes which measure about 12 feet in diameter. There is only a bed and some tree posts to hang a jacket. There is abathroom attached and small window through which you can see the stars. The pool was greatly appreciated after a dusty day. Breakfast was hardboiled egg, juice, bread, ham and cheese and fruit, so fine. Only servedafter 8 am which could be a problem with an early tour. The walk to townwas 10 to 15 minutes and no problem.
Review 69:It looked like the place was not finished - sacks of cement on the waydon't look nice. The sun ombrella was broken. Some staff don'tspeak a word of english. Nothing to accommodate early departure (nobreakfast)
Review 70:The houses are very nice - the decoration is exquisite
Review 71:Pool is not maintained and looks dirty while it could be a great asset.
Review 72:The concept is really nice but the place is unfortunately not managedwell. We were able to have a good time and pleasant stay but the wayit is managed might result in negative feedback from guests in the(near?) future.Walking distance is 5-10 minutes to the plaza. At night there is no streetlight for the last 400 meter to the hotel. Suggestions: - Provide breakfast packets to accommodate your guest that leave early for excursions. - Maintain your domes and the whole side. - Provide a torch for the way back to the hotel in the evening/night.
Review 73:Excellent location, just outside the centre of San Pedro. Friendly staff. Overall a lovely place to stay!
Review 74:Excellent staff
Review 75:Nothing
Review 76:Really nice people, very clean installations, very confortable, good facilities. Absolutely recomended!!!!
Review 77:the facilities within the room are simple
Review 78:drinks and home made snacks always provided, very sweet.
