Reviews for The Fairmont Palliser

Review 1:Some guest rooms are very tired and need updating, especially considering the price for even a basic room

Review 2:Being moved to a superior room after expressing my dissatisfaction with the room I was originally given. Excellent breakfast and very handy having a Starbucks in the basement!

Review 3:Nothing not to like, it's pricy, but worth the treat!

Review 4:The Palliser staff are the best. They go out of their way to make sure every need is met during your stay. I really enjoyed the comforts of the room like a kettle with a tea selection. The bathroom was a good size for a historic hotel. The pool and hot tub were open late and we took advantage of that.

Review 5:great service staff very helpful merman dollentas from house keeping looked after my husband and i very well with great service, tarvis from thr oakroom dinning gave us wonderful service.

Review 6:Rude maid service... Small room when they told me I had a bigger room. The beds are toooooooo small for a double. The view was another window and a wall. It was horrible stay. I will never stay there again. Liarrrrrs and false advertising room. Make sure u call and u kno wat you'll be getting.

Review 7:We love the staffs greeting us upon entrance. The receptionist could of more specfic review the type of room upon checking in. We got to our room it was two queen beds which we were hoping for a king size bed.we phone down to the receptionist she reply back she will let me know. By 10 pm we decided to stayed because we didn't hear back from her. The room we stayed in is 1142 it's so noise from the heating unit we can't sleep. It's hard for the next day travel when we weren't rested.

Review 8:The staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were immaculate. The building itself was gorgeous, and the location was great. It was worth every penny!

Review 9:The room was extremely unclean. One of the robes had been worn and had a stain which looked like blood. As well as two used bars of soap in the shower, used towels, chocolates had been eated, bottle of water had been drank. The add had said "Free-parking" but that was false, it costed $12 for the night. For the price I had paid I was not satisfied in the least.

Review 10:Comfortable bed, nice fu. That's about it.

Review 11:Another guest charged a drink to our room, but the hotel refunded us. Parking is tough at this location. And construction was going on, reducing the traffic.

Review 12:Penthouse and Gold rooms, and friendly staff. Great food on penthouse.

Review 13:$15 per day internet charge!!! this hotel has hidden extras that I feel are a little bit of a rip off!

Review 14:Beautiful hotel, decor and ambiance was to the fairmont standard,

Review 15:The only thing that was a little hectic and confusing here was the parking/loading up situation. The front of the hotel seemed a bit busy on the street since something was filming there. I'd suggest going with valet parking (we parked ourselves this time).

Review 16:The gold room package was fantastic! Awesome lounge, comfiest bed, & turndown service! A+ breakfast too.

Review 17:We stayed here for our wedding night and it was amazing. A beautiful hotel and the staff is so friendly and helpful. We even got complimentary sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries on our wedding night! Very helpful staff and very prompt luggage and valet service. Fantastic stay!

Review 18:Ease for check in/check out. Location, lounge and restaurant. Covered parking. view from our room over the Rocky Mountains. Everything was in the room. Breakfast buffet

Review 19:Worst place to stay. Parking is messed up with no clear directions. it takes forever to walk from parking to the hotel. Staff doesn't know what they were doing. We were double charged on our rooms in the end and staff was very rude and not helpful at all. Stay away.

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:Beautiful hotel right in the middle of Calgary. Excellent staff and service. Made our visit a wonderful experience. Will definitely book with the Fairmont when we return to Calgary.

Review 22:Smokers clse to the hotel entrance. High charge for wifi. Cold food served at breakfast and coffee warm not hot.

Review 23:Room size, friendly staff. General ambiance.

Review 24:Had to wait with the water running for at least 10 minutes before hot water arrived in the shower. This happened at night and in the morning. The maintenance man said you will just have to let the water run until it gets hot - there is an airlock - we've had this trouble a lot. Not five star I am afraid.

Review 25:Location - lovely old building.

Review 26:The first room was a little cramped, difficult to open suit cases.

Review 27:Upgrade to gold floor to include complimentary breakfast, following a scare involving pepper spray filtering through the ventilation ducts.

Review 28:Some of the people that stay here have a high opinion of themselves!!

Review 29:Booked an upgraded room with queen bed asked for a king and was given one no problem. The reception staff are friendly. The pool & steam room are great. Rooms are soundproofed very well. Amazing bathroom & comfy beds.

Review 30:Valet parking requests go to front desk. All calls get routed there so you can be on hold for 30-45 minutes. WiFi info hard to find in room

Review 31:Beautiful historic hotel, updated yet still maintains the charm.

Review 32:How can they ask a guest to pay for wi-fi when I can got to a thousand bars and restaurants nearby and get it for free? Also, no parking, but it cost $42 for valet parking. Rip-off!

Review 33:Central. Very imposing old hotel. Room very comfortable. Bathroom tiny.

Review 34:internet is paid (in the lobby you could get 3 hours for free) I got stuck one time in the bathroom because the door got stuck for 10 to 15 minutes , but I managed to open it, i did not report it because overall I was happy although the value for price might be an issue specially if you are on a budget

Review 35:the location is perfect, the hotel is very clean and staff are very very friendly, Overall I am very happy with my experience there the hotel is exactly in the middle of the city , I think if you measure it you will find it in the exact middle by a centimeter

Review 36:This hotel is old and worn and it really shows. Our bathroom door lock was missing and a ragged hole where it should have been. The magnifying mirror was broken. The bathroom floor and sink needed cleaning. Room lamps were barely operable; one not even plugged in. At nearly $500 (CAD) we were very disappointed. This property did not measure up to the usual Fairmont standards.

Review 37:The cocktail lounge/bar was quite nice but a bit pricey. The front desk person and doorman were very nice as we were leaving.

Review 38:Expensive with extra charges for basics like wifi, water, coffee/tea in the room. No in room fridge. Other chain hotels provide these small amenities for free. We would not stay again.

Review 39:Great downtown location. Beautiful historic building.

Review 40:main entrance without ramp for strollers and wheelchair users

Review 41:Amazing! The Gold area is once in a lifetime experience. The common area eg. Lobby area huge and welcoming. A 4-star hotel much better than many 5-stars.

Review 42:The hotel is located right next to the train tracks, and also an extremely busy road to the south where you can hear very loud cars rev-ving at all hours if you have a south facing room. Had a prime rib supper in the lounge and the staff was slow in taking drink and food orders. The prime rib was very chewy - by the time it arrived I was so hungry I ate it anyway!! Bar tender was slow in making drinks. Expected better from such an expensive hotel.

Review 43:The hotel is beautiful, and the rooms are very clean and modern. Decor in the hotel is lovely.

Review 44:Too much air conditioning in the gold breskfast room!!!!!!! Very unconfortable to the extend that could not eat there. Staff was good at turning down on my last visit.

Review 45:Tradition. Classec

Review 46:The only issue was there were no dressers for clothes. We came for a wedding and stayed 1 week. It would have been nice to have drawers. Not everything can be hung up.

Review 47:Excellent service! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Location was perfect. The hotel was beautiful.

Review 48:Did not like parking situation, with it being downtown we assumed the hotel would take care of the price of the parking ticket, but that wasn't the case. Valet parking was offered for 30 dollars but when your already spending 230 dollars a night to stay that seems a little pricey. Another thing that was quite inconvenient is when your checking out, you have to wait approx 15 plus minutes for the maid to check your room before you receive your $100 deposit back. Was standing there waiting while my other was waiting for me in vehicle on the street. Not the most

Review 49:Loved the room. Bed and pillows were most comfortable, the shower was great with lots of towels provided. We were just in for a quick night so did not get to use any of the facilities (pool, gym etc.).

Review 50:This hotel does not offer complimentary wifi. My group stayed threeweeks on Canada and stayed at four different places. Prior to that, westayed three weeks in mt various places. All offered wifi complementary. And Price of buffet

Review 51:Ridiculously priced Buffett

Review 52:Great location. Attractive hotel, very comfortable rooms, clean, bed so comfortable I slept like a baby (usually do not sleep well in hotels). Friendly staff. Only place I would consider if in Calgary. Great value. My opinion shared by my young adult son who was on the trip with me.

Review 53:I had requested extra towels prior to my stay, but there were only three towels provided for the three guests staying.

Review 54:The hotel looked and felt very nice, especially for the price we paid. It's in a very convenient location in downtown Calgary.

Review 55:Good central location, check in procedures as a President's Club Member were excellent. Attached parking garage has reasonable pricing, no need to valet park. Food was excellent

Review 56:We made a reservation when we got there, the room was not availiable all the rooms were taken so we will never stay there again. even with our reservation number it was not honored.

Review 57:Did not mention valet parking is $30 a day, it is also quicker to retrieve your own vehicle (takes valet about 20 mins to pull it around) Kuerig in the room but there was no coffee cups or creamers. There was only one robe in a room set for two

Review 58:Amazing staff, awesome location for exploring downtown, great spa experience

Review 59:The elevators are very slow - there are four elevators and only two appear to be working. It is a very old hotel so I can only assume the elevators are also old. Very dinky closet.

Review 60:Great location. Very nice front desk staff. Great room with lots of space and very nice bathroom, something that is very important to me.

Review 61:The elevators were slow and it seemed only 2 of the 4 were operational.

Review 62:The rooms were great, the people were nice, and the location worked great for our visit. Also, the email check-in and check-out process was very smart.

Review 63:The hotel is a Calgary landmark that has been well-maintained, and well-upgraded throughout the years to keep it modern. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, while the accommodations themselves are comfortable and clean.

Review 64:My only complaint would be the parking fees, which were very expensive for a one night stay. However, I anticipated it somewhat as downtown city parking is always expensive.

Review 65:The staff was very helpful, and the room was much more spacious than we had expected. We were also put on the top floor, so the views were fantastic. Great place.

Review 66:Unable to regulate heat in room and the price we paid for having an uncomfortable room

Review 67:Thermostat didn't work, very hot in the room - disappointed in my stay as I usually love my time at the Palliser

Review 68:Everything was amazing. We came for a wedding and the reception was also held there, the staff were excellent. We got in late and we were given a bit of an upgrade with a beautiful view of the Calgary Tower. If we come back to Calgary we will definitely look at staying here again.

Review 69:Had the breakfast buffet for $30.00 per person. Food was cold and waitress cleared our table while we were up getting our food. She seemed rushed even though it wasn't busy.

Review 70:Upgraded our room for an extra $20 per night. Room and hotel beautiful.

Review 71:I didn't spend much time at the hotel, I was mainly there to sleep.

Review 72:The staff were friendly and the surroundings and amenities were superb. I didn't eat at the hotel so I can't tell you about the food.

Review 73:Parking was supposed to be free we ended up paying 19$ and lobby bar drinks were quite expensive 36$ for two drinks.

Review 74:We loved our room, got a free upgrade Which was great.easy check out didn't even have to get out of bed to do it.

Review 75:The Fairmont Palliser is a beautifully appointed hotel. Our room, recently renovated in 2014, was, tastefully decorated with high quality furniture and finishes. The description of the room lived up to every detail, and was even grander that expected!

Review 76:I had a gift card to use and there was some confusion in redeeming it's full value, it got sorted out but took a while. The bathroom was quite crowded and the door was very squeaky which surprised me because I was told the room was recently renovated.

Review 77:Little hard to drive there with all the one ways, but it's downtown. Central to everything so you can walk everywhere. The pool was nice and it was quiet there.

Review 78:As always there were no negatives

Review 79:When we were leaving the valet Parker noticed we had a cooler. He asked if he could fill it with ice. He got us a big bag of ice and the asked if we wanted some more. Thank you so much Neil !!. It was such a genuine gesture and such a polite and friendly staff. Thank you once again . See you soon

Review 80:Everything was really over priced, we ordered two beers and one Mojito it cost $38, Valet parking is $42 a day, wifi is a extra $15-$25 a day. At least wifi should be included for how much a room is per night.

Review 81:Loved the hotel it was gorgeous, the pool was great to relax in, all the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Review 82:The staff at the Presidents Check In desk are incredibly helpful and thorough. Which is lovely.. But if you are waiting to check in with kids in tow and they are having an in depth conversation about itineraries.. Not so ideal.

Review 83:The level of personalized service is amazing. Everyone remembers your name. No request is too much.

Review 84:I loved that my needs were anticipated and catered to, even at 1:00 am! Chocolate strawberries ( the best I've ever tasted) and champagne awaited us upon arrival on our wedding night. We were also told upon arriving that our room had been upgraded and we also got late check out for free.

Review 85:Heat/cooling fan to bring HVAC to the room was far from silent. Being in a renovated room thought they would have had a quiet one.

Review 86:Staff is great, location fantastic and facilities quite good.

Review 87:A/C in room didn't work. Even though our room was on the 11th floor the noise from the train was bothersome. No make-up removal wipes in the bathroom

Review 88:Big room. Comfortable bed, with good quality linen.

Review 89:Lack of provisions in the room. At this standard of hotel would not normally expect to have to keep ringing housekeeping in this respect.

Review 90:Luxury accommodation at an idyllic location. The views are magnificent.

Review 91:The car parking was difficult expensive and out of the way

Review 92:The hotel was well located in business district. Everything close by really enjoyed the stay

Review 93:My only complaints are the room was a little chilly for my taste and there was no way to turn up the heat. It was locked on a specific temperature. The blow dryer was quite outdated and didn't work well. I had forgotten to bring my own.

Review 94:Food was delicious, fresh and hot. (Breakfast, dinner, late snacks). All from room service Staff were courteous, helpful, and fun. The rooms were very clean and the BED was amazing We had no problems getting directions, or help with anything.

Review 95:Valets do a wonderful job but loading area isn't large enough and parking is impossible.

Review 96:every staff member I dealt with was amazingly helpful and friendly (valet, front desk and housekeeping).

Review 97:We had a stroller and it was a pain in the butt to get on street level. The access to the ramp was confusing and inconvenient - but the staff were helpful.

Review 98:Very luxurious and the staff were incredibly helpful and courteous. They placed a crib in the room for free and that was great.

Review 99:No complaints! Love this hotel!

Review 100:We went to the fairmont for my husbands bday. We had reserved a deluxe room but was upgraded to a gold room. The room was amazing! Desperate living area. Music was on when we got to the room which was a nice touch. High ceilings were beautiful! Room service the next morning was very good as well! We live in Chestermere but wanted a date night away and the fairmont defiantly was what we were looking for!

Review 101:The parking next door is very expensive and takes for ever to walk back to the hotel, it is very inconvenient. We double parked and waited front of the hotel entrance to someone park our car, no one came.

Review 102:The bathroom floor wasn't clean. Room service at 3am was a bit slow but that was just because the concert band that played in Calgary that evening was staying there and they must have been hungry!

Review 103:Super friendly staff, especially Pam at the front desk! Got an upgrade to a bigger room. Asked for an extra set of bath supplies and they were delivered within 5 minutes. Beds were so comfortable. Valet guys were so nice.

Review 104:As the rooms are so expensive, it was a shame that just about everything was extra including water. They didn't even manage milk for the coffee/tea.

Review 105:Staff were very helpful. Beautiful old bulding.

Review 106:I just wished that the treatment of the attendants around the hotel should be all the same. I noticed that some of the service provider seemed to be arrogant. A- for the service!!!

Review 107:I am very pleased with the outcome of our stay in Fairmont. We already expected the service to be amazing and the facility to be stunning. The comfort and the feeling of being a royalty is surely believable. AAA+ for our experience rate!!!

Review 108:Need better parking optiOns. If you come on Saturday and plan to leave Sunday your better off paying for street parking as it is free on Sunday and after 6pm on Saturday.

Review 109:I liked the lobby nicw places to relax and the Starbucks at the Boulevard level.

Review 110:No free Wifi! Come on. This is 2015. It should be free in an upscale hotel

Review 111:Great location for Stephen avenue. Easy trip to and from airport. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice enough spa facility.

Review 112:I ordered breakfast in the room and found it to be warm and not quite as ordered.

Review 113:Very friendly staff , wonderful yesteryear charm. Very clean, extremely comfortable bed.

Review 114:Tiny room that cost a fortune. You can stay 10 minutes away for half the price and twice the size of room. With fees, taxes and parking your stay ends up being quite a lot more than you bargain for.

Review 115:Service in the bar was excellent but the room music was a terrible match for the Palliser. early rock and R and B in that space is not conducive to good conversation or the type of clientele I saw in the space

Review 116:We were completely comfortable in our elegant room at the Pallisar! The staff were so friendly, the valet service was great and we loved the whole environment! We spontaneously booked it for the night of out wedding and we wouldn't have changed a thing!

Review 117:Phone in the room did not seem to work properly. It dialed the numbers ( for room service etc.), but only returned a busy signal. The maid forgot to put clean coffee cups in the room after cleaning and we had to go to the lobby for more, as we could not phone down.

Review 118:Classic architecture Great location Friendly staff Excellent (but pricey) restaurant Weekend rates for rooms very reasonable

Review 119:The tub is very shallow and for a bath person it isn't great. The bed was comfortable for a night but if it was a pocket coil with the same pillow top it would have been more comfortable for more than one nights sleep.

Review 120:The room and the amenities were wonderful! The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and comfortable! The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful! We will be back!

Review 121:Too cold and it woldnt get warmer no matter how high I would set the temperature. The toilet got clogged and the dirty water came up in the bathtub. The staff were very nice and professional to refund the money without any hesitation!:)

Review 122:The main lobby and the lotion they provided

Review 123:The bathroom in our delux room was a bit small but for a 100 year old hotel is quite expected. The renovations are amazing.

Review 124:The staff at the entrance is very friendly and helpfull. From the moment you arive you feel very important to them and are treated with great respect. Well done!!

Review 125:Managed to find an amazing deal on the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. Them they gave us a free upgrade; it was gorgeous. We forgot our bag and they comped us toothbrushes. The wait staff in the restaurant were also impeccable. All around lovely experience.

Review 126:We loved the professionalism of the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. Our room was very comfortable - especially the bed! The decor at this hotel is beautiful! We are getting married this year and plan to book our wedding night at this hotel. Highly recommended!

Review 127:We're sorry to hear the Owl's Nest dining room is closing. We understand change and progress but hope the lobby does not become the boutiqued shopping mall the Hotel Vancouver has become. We hope the brautiful lobby and wonderful public spaces of the Palliser will remain, along with some great dining options for guests.

Review 128:Great hotel, we always enjoy our stay here. Employees are all welcoming and friendly. We particularly enjoyed the Oak Room staff on Friday night.

Review 129:The view of the room could have been better.

Review 130:The food, the cocktails, the staff were all excellent. We will definitely stay there again and recommend to friends and family.
