Reviews for Hôtel Le Grand Chalet

Review 1:That we couldn't stay for ever

Review 2:2nd visit after 5 yrs and can't wait for next visit. The family and staff have worked hard on improving what was already perfect.

Review 3:I want this to be seen as a helpful comment. New duvet covers are required. Mattress not that comfy. Hair dryer did not work

Review 4:Staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Good breakfast selection Good location with stunning views

Review 5:The staff were outstanding and very helpful. I was travelling with my parents and 2 children aged 8 & 12. The children were made to feel so welcome and the food was outstanding.

Review 6:A little far up the mountain, if you don't actually know Leysin and want to go there, you may find this a bit out of the way. Also, be careful with booking on booking.com, because the rooms aren't accurately described which made for a bit of a tough welcome for us. Once we accepted the error, though, we loved our accommodations.

Review 7:Absolutely gorgeous hillside retreat. Staff was attentive and friendly. Great breakfast with the most amazing views.

Review 8:The description of the room wasn't clear. Don't book a room unless you ask them about it by email and they contact you back, which they didn't do and the room was nonrefundable. The way to the hotel was difficult since it's up the mountain.

Review 9:The breakfast was great and the view from the balcony was amazing.

Review 10:We love the uniqueness of the Grand, it's slightly quirky character is enjoyable. The views are stunning, the balconies well situated and the lounge area and bar are comfortable and friendly. Great staff too!

Review 11:The location. Hotel is on top of a big hill and it is a long and hard walk up from the village/bottom of the lifts. It's not too bad on the way out as you can cut accross a bit off piste and join the baby slope. On the way back, if you are early enough, you can get the magic carpet to the top of the baby slope but even from that it is a significant up hill slog.

Review 12:Nice, chalet-style decor. Restaurant, with fondue and raclette. Good breakfast spread. Outdoor hot tub with lovely views over the mountain and town.

Review 13:Very excessive price for a small room - noisy children (we asked for a quiet space but had children running around the corridors making lots of noise) - overlooking the jacuzzi!!!

Review 14:Staff acceptance of pet - original welcome

Review 15:Wonderful room with a beautiful view. The staff went out of their way to make our stay special. The food was amazing and we believe the best place for cheese fondue and raclette!

Review 16:Bed was a little small and toilet old, but they told us is going to be renovated soon.

Review 17:Overall experience was really good. Service was execellent. The staff was really friendly and helpfull. Food was good.

Review 18:Bathroom was functional, although shower in bath was a bit hard to use --> i.e. hand shower with wall fixing... a little bit out of the way - near the american school, rather than in the thick of it... if Leycin has a thick of it!?

Review 19:amazingly helpful staff - we got there late and they asked the chef to make us food; it was really great. In the morning different staff were really friendly and told us all about where to go that day and the next. Great views - we had a room with a balcony (which was better than what we paid for, I think). Which looks out over the Leycin village below you and has awesome views of the snowy mountains and just a peak of Mont Blanc Warm & Comfy room with cute decor and nice table, chairs and desk.

Review 20:Beds and towels

Review 21:Ubication

Review 22:Great location, amazing view

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:Splendid view

Review 25:Location not very central, limited facilities, bed linen and towels need updating, breakfast room cramped

Review 26:Nice classic chalet feel

Review 27:Our child attends LAS, this is the closest hoteL. The breakfast is wonderful!

Review 28:Small family rooms

Review 29:Great location, fantastic view, very good restaurant

Review 30:Great breakfast

Review 31:A bit hard to find.

Review 32:Staff were fantastic. Food was excellent. View was great (apart from a couple of ugly buildings in the town below).

Review 33:Our room which was the North room was horrible. We do not whyBooking.com recommended this category of room when better rooms wereavailable. We definitely blame Booking. Com for their wrong guidance.

Review 34:The location of the hotel is superb, so is the staff.

Review 35:Room 17 at the end of the hall has a very weak wifi connection that might bother some guests who prefer to have online access in their room. However, wifi was strong in the common areas, restaurant and lobby. Breakfast is a standard Swiss buffet and a bit expensive (25 CHF per person) for what would normally be free at most Swiss hotels. The bed was comfortable but the pillows lacked any firmness.

Review 36:The hotel is just a short walk from the Leysin Grand Hotel train station. We requested a double bed and received a complementary chalet room upgrade with beautiful views of Leysin village and the Alps. The staff was courteous and helpful with all our requests including loaning us a power adapter and storing our bags after we checked out.

Review 37:Wifi in room 3 is almost nonexistence.

Review 38:Flew in from UK landed in Geneva and took a train to Leysin. A very easy and inexpensive way of getting to the hotel, was traveling with a Ski Bike in a large bag and carry on luggage. The train stops at the Grand Hotel, just asked the driver to point me in the rite direction to the hotel (The Swiss are always so friendly) Arrived and was given room 11 when entering the room noticed a large double bed that didn't split into two (as wanted 2 twins) so was given the option of another room 3 this room is MASSIVE and had it set up with an extra bed- was more like an apartment with 2 bedrooms! perfect .. but the wifi in the room is almost nonexistent but was very quick in room 11. The hotel was VERY CLEAN, food was excellent and ALL staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.. Excellent value for money! Will be coming back.

Review 39:Had trouble getting the Wi-Fi to work consistently in our room, but we were on the end, so may have been further from the router. It would be helpful if they gave directions for people arriving by train: go uphill from Feydey to the Swiss Hotel Management School, then look on the left for a path between two buildings that leads directly to the hotel.

Review 40:The room was large, decorated in chalet style without being kitsch, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the view was good. Plentiful breakfast options.

Review 41:Aside from Leysin magnificent view and surroundings, Hotel Grand Chalet truly captivates me in its every aspects, from the service provided by its staff & the incredible minimalistic design. I really had the best of everything the hotel has to offer. Thank you

Review 42:The staff was friendly and upgraded our rooms to the front with breathtaking views on the Alps. You cant ask for better views. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and can definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 43:The whole place need and up great have a look at the menu box it need new menus

Review 44:For the money it was ok for one night , maybe wrong time off the year to come in June Only one staff ,but he work hard

Review 45:It's a long walk up a steep hill from the village - but that's why the view is so good!

Review 46:The staff could not have been more helpful. The view is stunning.

Review 47:sheets not changed during our stay of 12 days, no kettle in the room, not enough staff to maintain bar / cafe and respond in timely fashion, Uk exchange rates made it rather expensive - a general problem.

Review 48:location, view, access, ambience, food quality and selection, staff friendly

Review 49:Nothing that I did not like there.

Review 50:Location is simply perfect. Perhaps the best in Leysin. Le Grand Chalet is run by a family and therefore one feels like at home.

Review 51:I am use to a softer bed. For a shorter stay it was fine but for a week or longer I would need to bring something softer for a more cushioned sleep.

Review 52:The location was great, within walking distance of the ski slopes. We pre-ordered our ski passes from the hotel (great service) so the first day we could walk to the slopes and ski. The Grand chalet is precisely that. A large cozy chalet. We were welcomed with a roaring fire in the lobby and woke to amazing views of the mountain. There is a wonderful large hot tub off the deck where you can relax your muscles and perhaps enjoy a glass of Prosecco. Very romantic. All of our requests were immediately taken care of whether it was a bath robe for the hot tub, the internet code (great wi-fi) or an adapter. We had half board which we thoroughly enjoyed. The hotel is located in a quiet area with nature and hiking trails opposite the hotel. Great for our dog too! This is definitely the best value for the money we have ever experienced. We will be back.

Review 53:Didn't dislike anything!

Review 54:The staff were absolutely excellent; great service, cheerful and friendly. Great room, amazing view, lovely bar / lounge, excellent food...can't rate it too highly!

Review 55:Everything they actually do by themselves. Very, very basic room (and we've stayed in "Junior Suite"). Beds hard as rock. Shower barely works. Bed linen wasn't changed for all our stay of 4 nights. Their wi-fi it's just lie - it appears everyone in Leysin knows Grand Chalet have no working wi-fi, but they still put it into their feature list. Staff is rude and ignorant, when we comlplained about wi-fi, they didn't even try to help or do something, instead they said "it's provided for free, so if you're not happy with it, you can go and find some paid solution". For free, really?! We wouldn't book this overpriced shack if we knew they don't have internet there. Resume: it only works for you if you return to hotel and fall to sleep without taking off your skis. And even in this case you're better off with Central Residence, which is 2 times cheaper.

Review 56:Amazing view. It's the only thing that thankfully doesn't depend of their efforts.

Review 57:The rooms do not appear to have been updated since the 1970's. It was expensive for what you get. The food in the restaurant is adequate, but pricey for what you get.

Review 58:The view was fantastic. It was very relaxing to enjoy a drink on the terrace and watch the sunset over the mountains. The staff was helpful and polite.

Review 59:Hard to find at first, few signs --- but go to the top of the town and you are there.

Review 60:The facility and staff were all first rate. We really enjoyed our stay at the Chalet. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The restaurant had a great menu and the food was delicious. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area.

Review 61:The Hotel is bit difficult to reach with a lot of baggage! And the information on the train schedules is French! Not every one can understand French!

Review 62:The place and scenery was beautiful! The fresh mountain air was so good!

Review 63:Food is a bit basic, and I took a long route to get to the hotel from station, and it is a looog walk by following the sign! But once I checked in, I was told a short cut.

Review 64:the view is fantastic can see far reaching mountains, take cable car to top the mountain for a hiking is amzing. Free wifi works fine, and enjoy reading my book from balcony.

Review 65:The trip up the mountain by tram was a spectacular entrance to our 2 days in Switzerland. From our 2nd floor room the view of The Alps was breathtaking. Our room was comfortable and quite large , quiet at night. We ate in the restaurant and Steffan was most attentive to our needs. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others. From the village this hotel can be seen from most aspects. We travelled the local bus to get around as well as walking. The public sitting rooms and bar areas were comfortably decorated in alpine character. We would definitely stay again.

Review 66:The room was small, stuffy, dark and old fashioned. Bed rock hard, bedding very unusual and uncomfortable to sleep in. Noise from other patrons a big problem.

Review 67:The staff were welcoming and spoke reasonable English, lobby area pleasing on the eye too, but you're really going to want to stay here for the view, which is fantastic. Quite easy to locate once you get your bearings (it's closer to Leysin d'Hotel station than Feydey).

Review 68:This, clean, well run hotel is in a spectacular location well worth the half hour climb up the mountain. The highlight for us was a soak in the warm spa looking out over a ring of mountain peaks. We did not eat at the restaurant, as it seemed rather pricey and we ate on the trip down Lake Geneva. It was a perfect place to rest on our drive from France to Germany.

Review 69:It was a lovely quiet hotel and the views from the room, the outsideseating area of the bar and the hot tub were stunning. The hotel staffwere very friendly and helpful. The ski lift was about a 15 minute walkaway (longer if carrying skis annd boots!). However, the manager told usabout the free village shuttle bus which we took advantage of on ourlast day to transport our skis back to the hotel.

Review 70:Nothing to dislike!

Review 71:Lovely views of the mountains while sitting in the hot tub on the balcony. Very nice chalet, our room was very large with a lovely view. Nice area to sit in the evenings inside or out. Short walk down to the station but no good for people with poor mobility as there are lots of steps and it is steep. Food is very expensive in this area.

Review 72:The best in this hotel is the view from a balcony! You can see mauntains every time. Very paitient and relax plase. You not see or hear nobody. Good for relax and skying. Very

Review 73:bathroom bit small and door touching toilet when closing door. Also the washbasin stand got sharp edges very close to toilet on which you can hurt yourself trying to sit down on toilet. this is a hotel for active people who enjoying being in the moutains an wintersports as its location is high up the mountain with lots of stairs.

Review 74:good location, no nonesense athmospheric hotel with great services

Review 75:the great view and the jacuzzi on the terrace

Review 76:€25 per person for breakfast is excessive

Review 77:Wonderful views Good food

Review 78:Difficulty in getting to hotel without transport

Review 79:Helpful staff Good food

Review 80:The room and balcon good but small, the en suite tiny and door didn't shut

Review 81:Staff really nice people. Great location. Good public spaces
