Reviews for Hotel Cumbres San Pedro de Atacama
Review 1:The hotel is in a calm, quiet location out of the village which allows it to have extensive grounds giving a feeling of space. Our room was also spacious, private and had an outdoor shower attached to the bathroom which was fun. The tour up to the Tatio geysers was organised with ease and efficiency by the hotel staf fand the guide, Nicolas, was knowledgeable, helpful and had a good sense of humour. A thoughtful touch is on the table in the foyer: a jug of fresh water and jars of 'trail mix'; there are even coca mate leaves for tea there early in the morning before a higher altitude outing. Our stay was a delight.
Review 2:Location of hotel is outside the town and therefore you need to use the shuttle to get to town. But this was okay for us as the shuttle was frequent and comfortable. Food choices on site were a bit limited and we had to settle a few meals in town
Review 3:Wonderful resort in the desert! Good staff, especially those at the excursion centre. Our guide for a few trips, Nicholas, was very knowledgeable and took such good care of my young girl. Although the excursions are more expensive than the operators in San Pedro town, but we recommend going with the hotel because the guides are really passionate about their jobs and they speak good English, and are able to answer a lot of questions you may have. Each tour is very private with about 8 people or so. The room was huge and very comfortable.
Review 4:Unfortunately the sauna was not functioning. Would have loved to use even though it was so hot! Breakfast buffet could cater better to restricted diets such as gluten free and vegan.
Review 5:Very friendly and helpful staff. Health spa: massages were wonderful and pools refreshing. Rooms were beautifully appointed and relaxing.
Review 6:All the staff was attentive and very personal. The facility is lovely. The food was excellent! The rooms were very very nice. The spa was also very nice. We started calling it "the cocoon", because in spite of all the great things to see and do in the Atacama, it was hard to leave the hotel! A rave!
Review 7:We absolutely loved this hotel. It's as stunning as the pictures suggest and the staff are friendly and helpful. It's a little way out of the town centre but the hotel offers a regular free shuttle service into and out of San Pedro which was great. The tours offered by the hotel were also really enjoyable-knowledgeable guides, well- translated and designed for maximum comfort as you explore. Really recommend this place!
Review 8:Meals are not in the same level of luxury of hotel. Breakfast is more a 3,5 star type. We gave feedback to manager and observed immediate actions taken to improve. Another day, we chose to have dinner in the hotel (it was Barbecue/asado night). Meat was just ok. We exected better beef steaks.
Review 9:Very nice room, comfortable and clean, excellent bed sheets, a/c and wi fi working well. Tours arranged by hotel are the best! great guide staff, infra and logistics (meals in the desert) Another plus is the free shuttle from hotel to Atacama downtown village (near by car but far to go walking)
Review 10:Location, just outside San Pedro, was great; the room was very comfortable, local materials, deck, and garden. The hotel offered excursions to the main sites of interest. Mountains were beautiful.
Review 11:Incredible service, spoke perfect English, amazing breakfast complete with a cheese board and desserts, along with everything else you would expect. Clean, fluffy towels everyday and dressing gowns.
Review 12:Have a couple days to get acclimatized tot he altitude before doing the major tours. They only have certain tours each day.
Review 13:People were really helpful and friendly. Excursions were great. Great rooms.. all around a 'win'.
Review 14:The hotel is a lit far from the dowtown, but there are transfer ever 40 min from the hotel to the dowtown.
Review 15:The hotel is excellent. The staff are amazing and the concept of hotel is an experience!!!
Review 16:Staff organizing excursions ought to be more fluent in foreign languages, at least in English; drinking water should be sold more cheaply.
Review 17:Great location, swimming pools, bedroom, friendly staff at reception, excellent kitchen in the restaurant.
Review 18:Two examples of very poor service marred what would otherwise have been a very good stay. The worst of these was the failure to book our airport transfer in spite of being requested twice, and the delay caused to some other travellers trying to catch their plane by trying to make them wait for nearly an hour after their booked departure to accommodate us. Very poor, and no acknowledgement of their error. This hotel also has a problem with a persistent smell which one of the staff claimed to be a nearby lama farm, but which smelt more like a septic tank issue to us.
Review 19:The rooms, the decor, the spa were all lovely. Many of the staff were also great - it was just the reception staff we had a problem with.
Review 20:Coffee service in the mornings was slow. Dinner menu lacked variety.
Review 21:Breakfast was sumptuous. The Eco- friendly expansive grounds including pool, spa and personal space were excellent. Guides and staff almost without exception were a pleasure.
Review 22:The shuttle into town could be more often
Review 23:Nice staff, huge bed, beautifully decorated. They prepared snacks for me to take on the early tours when we could not ger breakfast. Great massage in the spa!
Review 24:At the minuses...well..nothing is perfect so I had 2 days issues with WiFI (and the wifi is slow), the "complementary water " in the room ...actually is "complementary" ONLY for the first day ? never saw such things in other similar hotels, no...ironing machine....no plug adapters at reception.taking into consideration that a lot of Americans , Europeans , Asian are frequently tourists ...I guess that a......100 USD investment to buy 10-20 adapters is means nothing. Also the price is "a little" high compared with other similar hotels around the World.
Review 25:Nice rooms, spacious, all the necessary facilities, garden, Spa and relax area with various facilities like pools, jacuzzi, sauna, gym (all inclusive), massage. The front desk people were very friendly (especially Renato), restaurant guys the same. Food...delicious, breakfast ...well done ! The hotel has also his own travel agency, the guides are very kind but the best was Talia. She seems like she loves her job and she was explaining and pointing out , giving travel tips all the way !
Review 26:A large convention was staying at the same time, and staff had to spend too much time with them, to the detriment of non-conventioneers. Only buffet evening meals available, NOT what we wanted after a long day and evening on tour.
Review 27:Excellent tour staff
Review 28:Rooms and common areas really nicely done. Hotel very peaceful and laid out over large grounds. Wonderful Spa & swimming pool area to relax in after the days touring. Tours organised by hotel very good.
Review 29:Apenas 2 pontos: o colchão é muito macio. O cardápio do restaurante é bastante enxuto.
Super recomendo!
Review 31:i spent 5 days at this hotel and each day i had a problem. Specifically with the reception services. The first day i said that my air condition was not working, and it had been solved only at day 3 with a portable air conditioning. The second day i had a package to be received at night and the receptionist said in a very rude tone that there was no package, only in morning of the another day they apologize and said that my package was there. But since i needed by early morning was useless. The day 3 my travel agency called the hotel to inform me that my tour was 30min earlier, but they didn't advise me and i had to keep my tour waiting. The day 4 i left the hotel for a tour by 6AM and come back at 3 PM, eager to rest but they didn't make my room. I had to call 4 times to the reception to know what was going on. They took 1,5h to make it clean.
Review 32:the room is very comfortable, the spa is amazing, the restaurant is great. The manager was very kindly when we report all the problems that we had
Review 33:The hotel is quite big, so I stay in a room very far from the restaurant and the pools.
Review 34:The staff was great, always willing to help. The room was very spaciou and there was more then enough room for the criddle of my one year old boy.
Review 35:The check-out was very confuse.
Review 36:The design and facilities of the hotel are amazing. The staff is very friend and polite. The support given for the tours were excelent. Good wine with fair price.
Review 37:- Some rooms in the front has a pathway full of dust. I would prefer the ones on the way to the spa.- some staff is kind of arrogant. Funny to pay about 400 USD per night and staff look down on you.
Review 38:- The hotel facilities are great as a 5 star hotel. There are only a few great hotels in San Pedro.- The Van service from/to town is good and essential. - The Breakfast Box is just awesome. Ask for it whenever you need an early tour!!!!
Review 39:The rooms are large and luxurious. The staff are wonderful and there to take care of you. Their tours of the breath-taking surrounding sites are first class.
Review 40:A 6-star property with staff who are there to provide you with the best possible experience.
Review 41:The hotel's tours and guides (Gustavo, Tomas, Hegel) were excellent, and they made the entire experience in the Atacama Desert worthwhile. Having a tour office on-site at the hotel and only for the hotel guests ensured a fairly small group experience customized to the hotel guests' interests. Overall, a very pleasant and comfortable stay at the hotel.
Review 42:we had huge eletric problems in the room. Light dropped 5-6 times during our stay, but only solved in the last day. Bad smell in the toilet completed the problems with the room. In the restaurant that is beautiful, the waiting staff need more training. Need to be more polite at all. As a 5 star hotel I presume this fails just couldn't happen
Review 43:The hotel is beautiful, very good swiming pool, and wonderful rooms. Free bikes to rent very nice as well
Review 44:Perhaps the restaurant - from its architecture - gives a slightly cold impression - as a contrast we had a wonderful barbecue-experience outside under the moon and the stars
Review 45:The room, the setup of the whole hotel, the excellent restaurant (which is underrated in other websites) the friendly staff and the pool/spa area that helps to relax after the long excursions on dirt roads to the local attractions
Review 46:Excursion prices are higher than market average. I went to the hotel from Calama on a rental car. It was hard to find it at first, but it got easy after the second time. There are no signs to lead the way.
Review 47:Great breakfast. Spacious rooms. Gigantic and comfortable bed. Nice restaurant (Kunza Restaurant). Spa. Collective hot water Jacuzzi in the gardens. Well trained staff. Tourism agency inside the hotel, what makes very easy to go on excursions. I would recommend it for a romantic getaway!
Review 48:The hotel is away from the town which is nice because it's quiet, but you have to take a shuttle bus which only runs until 11:30 PM.
Review 49:Great pool area, spa, nice free mountain bikes, good breakfast and optional bag breakfast for early morning expeditions, comfy bed, cool rooms, I could go on and on.
Review 50:I didn't stay long enoug
Review 51:Staff were very attentive to every detail. Rooms large and very well set 2 showers, one indoors and one outdoors Pools with different water temperature Good quality breakfasts and meals
Review 52:My room had problems with the bathroom, the water stayed in. The hours of the breakfast were unadequate for a town where a lot of the trips are really early. Not a good value for money, the hotel didn't really offered a lot of leisure options for the price.
Review 53:The breakfast, and the offer of a complimentary one if you go out early.
Review 54:Great room , friendly staff.
Review 55:error en un cobro
Review 56:The facilities are beautiful, the breakfast buffet has lots of variety
Review 57:Unreliable schedule of hotel van taking guests to/from town
Review 58:Beautiful furniture, woodwork, piecefull setting
Review 59:Service at the restaurant is slow and makes mistakes all the time.
Review 60:Architecture, rooms, spa, location.
Review 61:I have ordered Gluten free breas and they didnt have but as son they realized it, they went to town to get me some for the next morning
Review 62:Lovely hotel for a few days of luxury relaxation.
Review 63:They have bikes you can use for free, this is great to go to town and is a very easy route The pool and spa is great
Review 64:Hotel has nice tours to visit attractions in Atacama. They also have bikes and van service to Atacama town.
Review 65:Beautiful location and great amenities.
Review 66:Perfect
Review 67:dusty walk or slow drive into centre of town (hotels shuttle or own car)
Review 68:outdoor shower in room and excellent wi-fi
Review 69:Exception staff. Great facilities. Activities. Pool .
Review 70:Too expensive. Central San Pedro not within walking distance.
Review 71:Nice pool area. Very good breakfast.
Review 72:The maintenance is terrible; as the service at the restaurant.
Review 73:Excellent rooms and facilities.
Review 74:Not enough space in the shade. And the pool was a bit too dirty.
Review 75:Excellent staff.
Review 76:Everything! Outdoor shower, the tasteful way everything was designed. The staff were so attentive and helpful. A gem of a place.
Review 77:The town of San Pedro de Atacama: unpaved streets with clouds of dust everywhere; few good restaurants and shops; roads to the tourist attractions poorly maintained.
Review 78:Good facilities; helpful and attentive staff Excellent restaurant
Review 79:Considering that the Hotel is far from downtown, they must improve transportation service from the hotel to downtown and vice-versa. Currently a van drop you off or pick you up two blocks from the main street.
Review 80:Our room was outstanding.
Review 81:Peaceful location, stunning setting. Rooms amazing and so comfortable, all facilities blend into the natural environment of the desert, yet are very modern and spacious. Didn't want to leave this desert oasis.
Review 82:In short: the take over of the hotel by new owners is still rough at the edges. The staff is new and needs refining. Room service is lacking and inexcusable for the price. In the restaurant a waitress crossed in front of a guest to put a glass of water on her right instead of going to the right side of the person to deposit the glass. The waiters and waitresses did not know where to place water, wine and pisco sour glasses or coffee or tea cups. They did not know that you serve a plate on the left side and retrive the empty plate on the right side of the guest. Food service at the spa bar was extremely slow and laborous as the waiter had to go to the kitchens to fetch orders. It was not clear that the hotel is so far from the town. It was not explained that the hotel offers a shuttle service from Calma airport - or that tours could be booked before coming and should be booked in advance if coming in February. The whole excursion list offered by the hotel should be provided before arriving in order to book them and or alter dates to be able to go on preferred tours. The lay out of the hotel was not explained. This guest has severe back problems. Being put in one of the rooms furthest away from the main compound was a torment for her. The location was not explained either. It was too far from the village and the shuttle bus left guests too far from the Pza de Armas for guests with walking problems. The preparation of the beds and leaving chocolates was a little late for foreign guests or guests exhausted from excursions/ traveling. The dinner was a bit ordinary for the price. The sandwiches were twice as big as they should be and overpriced. They should be reduced to half and french fried potatoes should be an option not an obligation.
Review 83:The staff was very servile and wanted to do their best. The two tour guides used were excellent. It is very nice to have the beds prepared and chocolate provided every night. The breakfast was excellent for my gringo guest as there was something for every breakfast customs guests from all over the world might have, which makes them feel at home. The beds and furnishings were comfortable. The swimming pools and spas were nice.
Review 84:Problems with the service, with good moments and others not that much -- example: not finding water in the room or in the restaurant!
Review 85:Amazing facilities, very good spa
Review 86:Be sure to eat breakfast early or you'll just get remains. Slow service at the pool.
Review 87:Great location, friendly staff, transport to-from San Pedro is efficient. Do spend some time chilling at the spa
Review 88:Both the room and the bathroom were kind of dark at night.
Review 89:The room was very spacious and had a private veranda leading to the backyard. From the bathroom one could go into an adjacent space without roof, but secluded, where we could have a nice shower. The Kunza restaurant was also very good.
Review 90:Just a little too far from the town if you don't have a car. The shuttle service seemed okay.
Review 91:The property was well taken care of and definitely value for money compared to the other hotels around.
Review 92:Weak wifi throughout; the restaurant has its flaws (poor menu choices, paper napkins don't fit in the category that is "apparent")
Review 93:Very attractive facilities, wonderful staff (Eduardo the concierge in particular, was very helpful), pleasant spa and good excursion options
Review 94:The level of service is not what you would expect from a hotel that is supposed to be a 5 Star hotel. The second night there we could not find a table for all of us to sit in the restaurant, there was no staff member available to help us get a table; when we did sit down, couldn't get silverware to eat with nor drinks when we ordered from the bar. Finally left after finishing what we could get from the buffet. The food was either good or extremely bad. Similar experience for New Years Eve. On the day of departure, could not get anyone to help with our bags even though we called the front desk 3 times. Car the hotel arranged for to take us to the airport never showed up even thought the manager assured us repeatedly it was on it's way; we finally had to demand the hotel use their shuttle to take us to the airport. I would not stay in this hotel again until they improve service, especially at the rates they charge.
Review 95:The hotel itself was nice, clean, good ambience. I like how it fit in with the surrounding environment. Guides for the excursion we took were great and they made a point to speak in Spanish and English. The staff were friendly.
Review 96:A little bit far from center of San Pedro
Review 97:Design of the whole hotel with all natural materials, beautiful spa, beutiful location of rooms with view of Atacama desert and garden.
Review 98:Bikes are good for going into town and north into Pukara de Quitor - ona paved road. Dont miss that. All other roads are dirt and then they goto sand. For younger and experienced off road bicycle people yes, for>50 yo bike enthusiast no. The maps given for Laguna Cejar just suck.Skip that bike ride south. But thats all the criticism I got for Kunza!
Review 99:This is an elegant oasis in the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama. It is ashort bike trip from the center of the "town" and thisseparates from the noises of the evening action. The rooms are totallycharming with flagstone floors, lots of wood, bamboo ceilings that hidethe ac outlets and lights, great bathroom with an additional open airshower. Each room has a spacious porch with all views of nature and muchprivacy. Kunzu has about 2 acres with the rooms all laid out in oneribbon spanning the campus. Nice lobby. Nice breakfast. Shuttle serviceto town on frequent schedule. Good events and excursion service. Bikerental right there. I would recommend.
Review 100:Too expensive for what it offers. Customer service could be a little better as well. 20 to 30 min walk to the city center, but they offer a shuttle;
Review 101:Nice accomodations, very confortable room.
Review 102:Breakfast at 07:30? Not if you want toast or bread or eggs or pancakes etc. All those arrive at a leisurely pace throughout the morning. . Simply not good enough for a hotel of this quality.
Review 103:Wonderful looking place, fabulous rooms and other facilities. The organized trips are excellent too, as is the food.
Review 104:Having said staff were quick to respond to issues sorting out thecomplexity of the bill took ages but was done amicably. The nature ofthe paths between the rooms and the central complex is not smooth but inkeeping with the style. The pools in the spa a bit less than warm
Review 105:We thought the setting, layout, ambiance to be outstanding. The staffwere excellent, English speaking but helped our almost non existentSpanish! Tours were well organised with excellent knowledgeableguides. Food well presented and well cooked. Staff were quick torespond to issues.
Review 106:Nothing really, but the breakfast was a little disappointing, not a veryhealthy choice (much like the rest of South America).
Review 107:Location was just out of town which meant it was quite, but not aproblem as regular free taxi to and from San Pedro. Facilities were verygood (as you would expect at the price) and the staff were very helpful.Tours were slightly more than in the town, but the quality of staff wasexceptional and usually only 2-4 people on a tour. .
Review 108:Distance from the town of San Pedro de Atacama; not-entirely-reliabletransfer service. The price was also very high for a business travelerlike myself, as I had no time to use amenities such as the spa.
Review 109:The relaxed atmospheren beautiful scenery, lovely public spaces
Review 110:Inflexibility of check in and out, overpriced for $389 per night, room bill had several overcharges and the shuttle zoomed past my colleague and I who were waiting at the pick up spot abandoning us in a dark scary neighborhood
Review 111:Setting and design of the resort
Review 112:My email to the managerRe: our stay at Kunza Hotel January 2013As you know we had hoped to raise our concerns about our stay at the hotel while still in San Pedro. Unfortunately because you did not have the courtesy to get back to us when our first requests for a meeting were made, we were unable to do so. I did, as you suggested, raise just some of our dissatisfaction with your front of house manager, … at check-out but she was, quite frankly, disinterested and unhelpful. This is the first opportunity we have had to get in touch since our return. We had high expectations of the hotel, partly because of the cost and partly because of the reviews we had read. However, overall we found the level of facilities poor for a hotel of this standard. We found the following shortcomings:• No hairdryer in the room, supplied on request but too late for the first day• One pair of slippers provided had clearly been used• No shower gel, tissues, cotton wool• The shower was never more than lukewarm• The light on the magnifying mirror did not work• We reported that the TV was not working the day after our arrival. A technician was sent. He could not fix it but, as we found in the middle of the night, he had left the screen on and we could not turn it off. So we had an unwelcome ‘nightlight’ for two nights. It was only on the third day that we were told, when we asked, that there was a problem with the satellite in that wing of the hotel. If we had learned that sooner we would not have wasted time trying to get it fixed.• Every time we went into the room there was a loud screetching sound coming from somewhere. It only went off after some time.• Breakfast buffet was adequate but not as good as buffets we had at cheaper hotels in both Puerto Varas and Santiago. The hot food was never hot, it was lukewarm even when service opened. Breakfast service does not start until 7.30 even though many guests have early morning starts on tours.
Review 113:Superficially good design did not work in practice.
Review 114:The quality of the reception staff, not willing to go the extra mile forthe customer ( work by the rule book ), did not speak English the wasthe impression from all the guests with whom I travelled...
Review 115:The design of the hotel, the menues although the quality was 70%good,the Croation bar keeper,
Review 116:Don't even know where to start...- Not just unfriendly - hostile service. Only Daniela at front desk and Alexandro at the bar were good. The rest of the staff was terrible. We felt not just unwelcome - an annoyance to their existence. Complete disregard to any and all requests - even for some small attention at the bar or for food... Terrible. Don't think we've even been treated like this. - If your Spanish is not good, forget it. The staff does not speak English and takes pride just in that. One guy in our group spoke OK Spanish, but that wasn't enough: the staff held us in great contempt for not being able to express ourselves in Spanish that's perfect for their ears. - Uncomfortable beds. - Swimming pool - half-full with some sewage-looking liquid. Obviously, we never saw anyone swimming there. The water in the jacuzzi was filthy and smelled sewage. - The hotel is a hike from the town, and the shuttle that the hotel provides is not practical in terms of its schedule. We ended up walking back and forth on dusty and dark roads. The first time, it was fun. After that - an annoyance. All in all, we hated this hotel. For $350 a night, in the middle of nowhere - come on! Stay away at all cost possible.
Review 117:Really beautiful room - lots of wood, nice patio, great outdoor shower. Also, the food at the restaurant was very tasty (but you have to have alot of patience and perseverance to get it!). The nice things about thishotel end here...
Review 118:De outdoor shower was not working properly: created a dyke which wentall the way inside the bathroom. The attitude from some personnel at the front-desk was kind of snobbish, making us feel quite unwelcome. We expected to be greeted with a smile since we are arriving to a spa, not a third world hostel. The mini bar was poorly equipped making the experience at night a nightmare if you were hungry due to the fact that there is no room service at night. 1 peanut, 2 coca cola's and 1 bottle of water were available. No chocolates or other kind of food & candies. The swimming pool was not working properly: people were using it while it was been cleaned/repaired without any sign expressing the fact that it was out of order. The water was green and people were swimming without knowing that it was not working properly. The whirlpool should be fixed: the ejection pump was above the water level.
Review 119:Spa! Specially the massage service from theEcuatorian/Colombian girl.Swimming pools.
Review 120:service sometimes was no so good
Review 121:bed was so hudge and shower at the outside is just amazing
Review 122:the cleanliness was fair, but not excellent.
Review 123:the staff was really nice and breakfast was great.
Review 124:Don´t get the full stay, is so expensive
Review 125:It´s a very good hotel, if you have time to enjoy, so don´t do tours all day long!!!
Review 126:a very good Place to stay With good service
Review 127:Comfortable, good and typical hotel. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff
