Reviews for Don Raul

Review 1:We missed a fan in the room which was terribly warm until 5 am. It would have been nice to keep the door open to let some fresh air in. But sleeping with an open door - no way.

Review 2:The hotel is close to the active touristic part of the village Although not disturbed by nightlife. The restaurant very good and decently priced. Breakfast good but kind of average.

Review 3:The location is awesome. Staff is helpful, breakfast is included and nice. The restaurant attached serves interesting food. The room is clean, they extra bed for my 4-yr daughter without asking. Bathroom was clean and comfortable.

Review 4:The rooms were very hot and with no circulation, a fan in each room would make a big difference they were also very dark. It was great that there is parking but it would have been nice to know that it was offsite a block and a half away and very small a little tricky to get in and out of with a truck. Some days we received hand towels and a towel for getting out of the shower and sometimes we didn't. Can also be a little loud at night as our room was close to the attached restaurant.

Review 5:This hotel is in a great location and the staff is very friendly. The room was just what we needed and was very clean. It was nice that they left lotions and shampoo as we weren't expecting this. Love that there was WiFi and for the most part it worked well. The breakfast that was included was very good and beats any continental breakfast I've had.

Review 6:The kitchen is very noisy untill very late in the night. People working there talk very loudly and keep the door open, so that if your room is in the area close to the kitchen it is very difficult to get asleep, and that is particularly unconfortable if you have to wake up early for some morning tour. Rearding breakfast, they give you a breakfast bag if you are going on a tour early in the morning (which is positive). Since I have coeliac desease, though, i asked for some simple fruit instead of the regular breakfast, and they assured me they were going to give me that. Then when i received the bag at 6 in the morning it was "full gluten": bread, cereal bars, etc. Nothing i could eat. (luckily i had some backup)

Review 7:The windows were hardly covered so people could easily see into our room if they tried. My shower never got warm on the first night and it ran out of hot water on the second night. We paid for breakfast then found out it was free. No A/C, but that is common in this region and not really a necessity. There seemed to be very little to make this hotel so much more expensive than any other place in town. I doubt I will return with all the other more economical options in town.

Review 8:They had some neat spaces to hang out on the property. Location was good. The room was spacious and clean. It was quiet until the dogs started barking at 0430 each morning. Beds were clean and comfortable.

Review 9:Wifi intermittent in our room.

Review 10:This hotel was lovely! The rooms are not huge, but clean, comfortableand warm! Each room has a wall mounted radiator, the first we havefound on our travels a very welcome sight following 2 extremely coldnights on the Uyuni salt flats. (Bolivia to Chile 'hop') It isat the end of the busiest street and therefore nice and quiet. Thestaff were very helpful and friendly, not to mention patient, as wespeak very little Spanish. The restaurant is fantastic, but very quietdue to the location in town, it is a shame as the food is delicious andvery reasonably priced. Rooms are Slightly more expensive than thehostels, but totally worth it.

Review 11:One of our rooms didn't have any hot water at all for the 3 days and in the others the hot water was intermittent. This was a big downside :(

Review 12:Great central location so need for walking around in the dark (but not noisy). Nice bar, renovated bathrooms, good breakfast, good area outside to relax, helpful staff

Review 13:We liked the convenience of walking just a short distance to the main streets of San Pedro. Don Raul was very helpful in providing sack breakfast for our early excursions. We really liked their outdoor lounging areas (shaded and in the sun) for chatting, playing cards, etc.

Review 14:We have appreciated this small hotel in the rough style of this village where most f the tourists are backpackers, with only few rooms at the ground floor with direct access from the yard. The location is in the centre of the village, in the main street just after the end of the pedestrian part of it. The staff is kind and cooperative, although most of them not fluent in English. The assortment and the quality of the breakfast are of good standard. WiFi is not always available, but also this is part of the rough style of San Pedro!

Review 15:Unstable WiFi

Review 16:We had very good support from Marco Mamani, who picked us up from the airport in Calama, managed our tour bookings, and gave us good advice. Nice and clean hotel, good breakfast.

Review 17:There is no path you can take to the room without walking on dirt. Unfortunately the dirt sticks to the footwear and thus gets tracked to the room. A mat outside the door would've been useful ! Even though the hotel was made to look like other dwellings in the neighborhood, the window "curtain" was not very good. It was sort of translucent. We lacked privacy..

Review 18:Good Location. Right in the heart of town, but relatively quiet. Breakfast is good and they have coffee / Tea available 24 x 7. They packed a "Box" breakfast for us at our request.

Review 19:I stayed at Don Raul for 2 nights in a small room with private bath and it was extremely expensive. I paid $260 US and during my second night a local creek flooded and fill the entire property and all the rooms with muddy water. I woke up to an inch of muddy water in my room. Many of my clothes and my boots were a soggy mess. Management did move other patrons to a different hotel but I was checking out and when I asked for a discount based upon the huge inconvenience of the flood I was told no. I think the whole of San Pedro is overrated and way too expensive for what you get.

Review 20:no aircon, a bit cold at night

Review 21:Really good location, on the main road CARACOL. With private bathroom and hot water almost 24 hrs.

Review 22:The hotel is comfortable; we appreciated having an updated bathroom. It is centrally located and only a few minutes walk to restaurants and tour agencies. Breakfast was more than adequate and provided a good start to the day. The people at the hotel were excellant and were very generous with their time and their patience (with non-Spanish speakers). The hotel stands out a little as it is not a hostel.

Review 23:Our spartan room and tiny bath had peeling and cracked walls. No place to hang clothing. Walls were thin and could hear every noise in the adjacent rooms. The window in our room had been painted shut, so we could not open it. This was an unfinished room that did not meet the standard of a true hotel room.

Review 24:The location was good and the hotel's breakfast was good.

Review 25:Hot water was not working properly and, for the season we went (December), the rooms are quite hot at night.

Review 26:It had a very good breakfast, and the staff was very friendly. The staff prepare a small lunch or breakfast bag when your tours leave very early on the morning.

Review 27:Nothing.

Review 28:Location is perfect, right at the entrance of San Pedro and by the main street. Breakfast was really good, with continuous replenishments of food. Even when the tour picks you up early in the morning (say, 4am-6am) and they're not serving breakfast yes, they will prepare you a snack bag if you let them know in advance. They even have satellite TV in the rooms.

Review 29:- room was very small - no heating available - WIFI only in the reception area - several electrical power outages in the evening (each lasting less than 15 seconds) which were not forced by the general power supply because any other place around the hotel still had light --> so it is a hotel issue

Review 30:+ top location in the heart of S.P.d.A. and still quite + free parking + very good breakfast + the shower was always hot and you could fine-tune the temperature by adding cold water (standard in developed countries but unfortunately not in other hotels in Chile)

Review 31:When we arrived for a 4 night stay, we had been given a twin room despite having booked a double room (matrimonial). We were initially told there was nothing they could do but then they decided to move us to room number 11. After a 1 hour wait (we were told we would be waiting 15mins), we were moved to a room with a gaping hole in the bathroom ceiling, mould up the wall and with most of the wall plaster fallen off. When we complained about the state of the room the receptionist laughed and said this was the only room left so we had to take it or leave it. The staff generally seemed disinterested. Breakfast was meant to be served from 6:30-10:00but in actual fact the staff arrived at 6:30am which meant than on our last day when we had to leave early, we arrived for breakfast at 6:30 and there was nothing ready so we had to go without. Contrary to them advertising that wifi is available in all areas, it isn't. It's only available in reception. One of the most irritating things about this "hotel" is that you have to inform the staff if you want a hot shower so they can turn on the water. You only get 5 minutes of hot water which was annoying because one of us would get a hot shower and then the other would have to go and tell them to turn the hot water on again!

Review 32:Location was good.

Review 33:not stabil connection for credit card payment, need of cash

Review 34:nice staff booking of tours in the hotel (no need to go to the agency; pick up for tours mostly in hotel)

Review 35:there are far cheaper places to stay in the same location for at least $60 US less. Hostel katarpe is the best alternative.

Review 36:Great breakfast with a endless variety of foods. Room was simple but clean.

Review 37:The owner is a not frendly woman.

Review 38:Localization is excellent

Review 39:overpriced for what it offers

Review 40:No fan or aircon, very small rooms and no public area to sit

Review 41:Good breakfast

Review 42:Helpful staff. Great location. Acceptable breakfast.

Review 43:I dind't like the bread of the breakfast. :)

Review 44:The staff was very nice and the price was perfect for the serviceoffered.

Review 45:Rooms are a bit on the small side.

Review 46:In main street of San Pedro. Helpful staff, good breakfast.

Review 47:Noise

Review 48:Friendly

Review 49:Very poor Internet throughout the property. Very little difference between this place and a hostal.

Review 50:The cleaning staff did an amazing job in keeping our room clean and sanitary.
