Reviews for Royal Hotel

Review 1:- Special touches like the hot chocolate cups complete with marsh mellows and candy canes made my night there. Ribbon wrapped extra pillows as well was an added touch for our Christmas eve stay. - I quite enjoyed the old wood look in the hotel. The creak of the stairs brought me back to childhood. Reminded me of the 'ole days' - All three front desk clerks we saw were very helpful and welcoming.

Review 2:Lack of coffee in the room, resturant attached the to hotel wasn't good at all. And for the price was expecting a lot more.

Review 3:Staff were incredible, nice size room, great vibe. Just a pleasureable stay.Theres an amazing 50's resturant just down the street.

Review 4:I found the bed uncomfortable, it was too hard for me.

Review 5:The staff were so friendly, and the room was beautiful. The whole hotel has an amazing character feel to it, my husband and I loved how it was decorated. The cafe has delicious food at great prices.

Review 6:Scary!We arrived late and street was scary! We were told car may be broken into if parked far away.Kids were scared staying there! We only stayed because was last room available.Nice people work there. But i do not recommend.

Review 7:One night of our 9 night stay the A/C wasn't working. The stairs!!!

Review 8:Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Hotel was very clean. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 9:The room doors could be a little more air tight and not allow so much light in under the doors.

Review 10:Mostly everything older style decor and 1900's style.Great restaurant and friendly staff.

Review 11:Our room had a window above our door that let in light from the hallway, which interfered with our sleep a little. This could be easily dealt with.

Review 12:Beautiful heritage building. Perfect location in old Chilliwack. Great bookstore, record store, coffee shops nearby.

Review 13:No table to put my laptop on or to just sit at the table having a drink looking outside. Instead I had to put the laptop onto 2 pillows which heated up the laptop, made it very difficult to work on as well as uncomfortable to sit. Couldn't enjoy the view unless you stand there so the view I missed.

Review 14:EVERTHING Staff was friendly, polite & cheerful Manager brought up my tote to my room (inside) As sick as I was, it was very quiet, pleasant to be there. Yes, I would recommend it to every one.

Review 15:no dislikes

Review 16:Eileen and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and beds comfortable.Enjoyed staying in a classic hotel with so much history. The restauraunt has good home cooked food.If you Like taking a little walk into the past,I highly recommend staying at the royal hotel.

Review 17:Kitchen fan was left on all night and door rattling sounded like a sewing machine loudly running. Bathroom was dirty. Only a small window that I couldn't open and had to stand on bed to look out. It was very similar to camp accommodations in the oil patch.

Review 18:Front desk lady was very friendly and apologetic. She immediately identified the noise that kept me awake as the kitchen fan that was supposed to be shut off at night. I apparently booked a "comfort room" although I was unaware of that when I booked because the photos only showed the lovely antique rooms. They should be a bit more clear on on what you are getting when you book.

Review 19:Poor location is a factor of the city's historical geography. Modernized hotel choices closer to the Trans Canada; hotel's location remains in the old core and is perhaps not as safe an area by comparison.

Review 20:Historic building - could be a unique boutique hotel.

Review 21:I would say because of the age of the hotel there is a musty smell as you enter the hotel and also in our room. Otherwise it was all clean and I check. I pull back the sheets and I lift up the fitted bottom sheet and check the seams for bed bugs before I start to unpack. I didn't enjoy the view from my bedroom window and I think it could be improved with a big flower box or basket outside that window.

Review 22:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and our room was comfortable. Breakfast is not included but we had it at the hotel restaurant and it was fairly priced and very good. Overall it was good and we asked for a quiet room and we got one.

Review 23:Three flights of stairs carrying suitcases! TINY room, tiny bathrm, tiny uncomfortable bed, tiny desk, no screen on the window, no breakfast included. We wouldn't go there again.

Review 24:The area. We had an enjoyable walk after dinner among all the older homes with big trees and well-kept gardens.

Review 25:away from highway noise very comfortable bed and spotless room food not gourmet but every day good

Review 26:Wide old wooden staircase leads up to clean rooms furnished with antique furniture.I've wanted to stay in the Royal Hotel for years

Review 27:We enjoyed our short stay, A big red Christmas bow on the pillow greeted us !

Review 28:Shower literally in the room

Review 29:Nice place

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:Quaint living history

Review 32:The staff was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the authenticity of the building.

Review 33:We love the ANITQUE rooms and the old charm of the hotel ...we have stayed here before.

Review 34:Old but nice. Good price, friendly staff, location was good and best coffee shop (Harvest) nearby. Great overall value.

Review 35:Very friendly staff, entering the hotel is like a step back in time or history come alive, nice little restaurant for dinner & breakfast

Review 36:Breakfast wasn't included

Review 37:Basic room and facilities but comfortable. The hotel is dated but full of character

Review 38:An older hotel with lots of ambiance.

Review 39:Loved the jacuzzi suite, so big and spacious. The breakfast was lovely too.

Review 40:Bed was not very comfortable.

Review 41:Nice room and great restaurant.

Review 42:I liked the old fashion feel with the building, and the overall service

Review 43:Location is great for downtown Chilliwack and a short walk to a number of restaurants and pubs.

Review 44:I booked the two bedroom and they gave us one bedroom and charge us for almost twice.

Review 45:Everything

Review 46:No pop machine.

Review 47:Historical experience.

Review 48:The bathroom was small

Review 49:The room and the bathroom was really clean. Staff was really friendly and helpful.

Review 50:People were helpful and friendly. If you like old house you would love that one.

Review 51:no shower gel , hard time getting wifi .room too small , for the monery . vq

Review 52:Staff , clean , Location .coffee in room .

Review 53:Really appreciated the attention to detail that went into preparing the room for our arrival - very clean!

Review 54:Great staff. Wonderful food in the restaurant.

Review 55:I liked the rusticity of the building plenty of character. The jacuzzi was great beautiful place to stay

Review 56:nothing good

Review 57:Lacked an elevator but as room was on 2nd floor was not a major problem

Review 58:For us it was a good location and the restaurant was very good.

Review 59:I felt very welcome there. Home away from home.

Review 60:Noisy guests in hallway in evening.

Review 61:Location, staff

Review 62:No fridge

Review 63:Excellent food 10 out of 10. Location great as well

Review 64:All was good. Use of the hospitality room, great location to down town.

Review 65:Appointments are very bargain basement

Review 66:Café has great soups

Review 67:Great food at the Cafe! Good coffee in the rooms!

Review 68:very bad smell in the hallway and walkway. very congested bedroom & washroom.

Review 69:I DON'T LIKE NOTHING

Review 70:cafe not open until 8 am for breakfast

Review 71:Old well maintained hotel really comfortable bed and linens Old fashioned tub in the room big room, high ceilings, old wood floors cleanliness

Review 72:Poor sound insulation - consistent with the age of the building however. Not a place for amorous couples seeking privacy!

Review 73:The central location and the charm of the building. The breakfast at the attached restaurant was generous and tasty, and the staff friendly and attentive. For a central location with a nearby pub, it was quite quiet.

Review 74:In my case, there wasn't any hot water in the morning but it was warm enough to get through a quick shower. The morning clerk said the pilot light on the boiler might have gone out. I'd still go back.

Review 75:This is a 108 year old facility with all the charm you'd expect of an older house. The lobby is appointed with unique antiques of that era. The staff is very nice and quite helpful. The room was immaculately clean!! The hotel has refunded my charges due to the cold water shower. That was a bigger surprise than the mornings cool shower! I'd go back again.

Review 76:Was just fine. Definitely old and no creature comforts in room. Only comment was how tiny our room was. My husband is 6ft. 5 inches and it was funny watching him trying to move in our teeny tiny bathroom. Definitely used our room only to sleep

Review 77:price was good. Staff friendly and very helpful. Restaurant food good. Room was clean.

Review 78:The Royal Hotel was amazing. Found it on booking. Com. Loved the smellof the old wood walking into it, creaking of the stairs & thecoolness aspect of 'oldness'. This was by far the best staffwe've ever encountered & easily by far the cleanestaccommodation we have ever experienced! David ( front desk) gaveexcellent & esy directions to the hotel. He also suggested that wetake our bikes off the back of the Jeep & store them inside forsafety sake. Loved that! Our bikes mean lots to us. David also hadgreat suggestion for supper & drinks right down the street! Eileen( morning front desk) was friendly & helpful & appreciative ina very genuine way. Nothing stuffy or put on/ fake about thisplace!! Thank you

Review 79:You never know what you’re going to get by picking a hotel off the internet; I am sooo happy that I picked the Royal Hotel! The staff was excellent, the rooms were always clean, the café was some of the best food we had in Chilliwack and reasonable, especially Friday night prim rib yummy! The hotel built in 1908 and loved the atmosphere. The people there were so friendly; I would recommend this hotel to everyone! Linda & Frank from San Diego, Ca

Review 80:Nothing!

Review 81:The location was perfect, in the old town center. Lots of charm in the hotel, old world country and very comfortable. Quiet, on a one way street. Lots of boutique shops and eating areas very close by. The staff were a treat, super nice and helpful. Very close to other little communities with lovely scenery, mountains, rivers, fields.

Review 82:No lift but what do you expect in such an old hotel!!

Review 83:Upgraded for free to bigger room. Lovely shabby chic room. Staff excellent they were very friendly and helpful. Hotel very old and interesting.

Review 84:Smells old but I guess it is. The standard queen room is very small. Only had one bedside table, we used a chair for the other. Basic decor, nowhere to set anything. Very small shower. Recommend booking delux room if staying here

Review 85:Good location, great shops close by.

Review 86:We didn't like the horrible view of the old roof and the sound of some sort of fan on the roof going off and on constantly during the night.

Review 87:We loved the very friendly staff (David and Eileen and the wonderful lady in the lounge who welcomed us in for last call). The building is gorgeous in it's heritage state. Our 3 rooms we booked were very tiny but the high ceilings and tall window made it bright and welcoming.

Review 88:It took a along time to have breakfast in the restaurant. One of the waitress completely ignored my son and I and helped and served people who came in after us. Yes she knew we were there, she look right at us. We had to wait till another waitress came on shift to be helped.

Review 89:The staff at the hotel were so nice and helpful and the hotel itself was spotless. It was also interesting to stay in a landmark hotel.

Review 90:the brightness of hall lights is triggered with movement; for light-sensitive sleepers this is very annoying (there are lightly-covered windows above room doors). no sound absorption for noise in the hall or other rooms.

Review 91:very clean & very comfortable beds this particular room and bathroom were also very roomy. Others can be extremely small nice to have a restaurant so close with excellent service and great food

Review 92:Really liked the heritage factor We seek out boutique style places to stay. Room was really cute with the claw foot tub in the bedroom. Bed was very comfortable Room was the quietest place we have ever stayed in We have tols all our friends and we will be back

Review 93:the rooms could have stayed more with the heritage theme. we have a heritage hotel in Kamloops ( the Plaza) and the interior of the rooms follows the theme eg: the taps, headboards lighting. I was a little disappointed that the rooms did not reflect the beautiful entrance décor.

Review 94:We liked the heritage feel we also thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. nice to have a café for breakfast and dinner

Review 95:Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They upgraded us to the vintage room, which was remodeled to be sparkling and new but still had the feel of this historic building (over 100 years old). Nice breakfast (costs extra) in the cafe downstairs. Excellent value--the place was gorgeous but very inexpensive for what you get.

Review 96:Made reservation for two rooms for two nights. Upon checking in I was informed that my CAA discount was not applicable and lost $7.00 per night per room or $28. Booking.com cost me that amount and it makes me skeptical to use this service again. Looking forward to response from Booking.com

Review 97:Very rustic and downtown. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 98:I can't think of anything that needed improvement!

Review 99:The staff in the hotel as well as in the cafe were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean, we were initially a little surprised and unsure of the bath/shower in the main bedroom but were entertaining the idea of having the bath in the bedroom at home. Location was very good for us...very little driving! A wonderful stay...looking forward to the next time!

Review 100:No elevator - difficult for those with mobility issues. This is clearly stated in the materials so should not be a surprise.

Review 101:Historic, small-town friendly feel. Loved the feeling of being in a renovated historic building.

Review 102:On the Saturday night we heard everything from the floor above including people walking around, someone vomiting in the toilet, etc. Sunday night was an improvement. Also there is no elevator! ! ! The bags needed to be carried up the stairs. No iron / ironing board but we could get one if we asked - a table one only. No blow dryers plus bathroom was extremely small. No tub but only a shower which was too small.

Review 103:This hotel was old but quaint if you like quaint.

Review 104:Navigating to the parking at the fromt of the hotel is tricky until you get the hang of the one way street. I don't mind the stairs only access to the rooms but don't pack too heavy

Review 105:This was the second year that I stayed at the Royal and this 5 day visit was equal to my good experience from the previous year. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel has the historic charm of the early days of Chilliwack with the ammenties that a modern day traveller needs. You can't beat the location with ample good restaurants (including the one attached to the hotel), shopping and the great District Pub at the corner. Nature is just a short drive away. I plan to stay there again.

Review 106:But very small rooms and out dated. I know it's old but get with the program a little bit :)

Review 107:Very nice staff and good location for what I was there for.

Review 108:Table is quite small if you have any amount of work to do.

Review 109:Old hotel but nicely restored makes it a pleasant change from the standard generic hotel/hotel room. Price is very reasonable.

Review 110:Not a bad thing to say about the place!

Review 111:right downtown, free parking in front of hotel, comfortable bed and I got a quite room as requested.

Review 112:The room had a shower only and no bath tub

Review 113:I liked the location the history of the building and it's rustic flair

Review 114:Wonderfful, preserved hotel with great staff and restaurant. A pleasure to walk around immediate area.

Review 115:Morning breakfast, staff were VERY friendly and accomadating

Review 116:The ensuite was very cramped!

Review 117:Our room was clean, functional and serviceable if a little on the small side.

Review 118:Size of room for 2 people , not told at check in that there was a choice .

Review 119:Location, cleanliness, price
