Reviews for Hostal Ovejero

Review 1:Our room was noisy. We could hear other people walking around in the hotel. The location is quite a walk from the center but you can always take a taxi that is very cheap.

Review 2:The staff was very helpful. The room was nice and with a kingsize bed.

Review 3:The room was very close to the reception area and walls are quite thin so you can hear talking, music, people in the halls, etc. That being said, we weren't woken up by any noise.

Review 4:Very friendly and helpful staff - they arranged a tour for us to see the penguins on Isla Magdalena and also called our room to check on us when we weren't there to meet our early morning taxi to the airport (which they had likewise arranged at our request). We had actually not heard our alarm, so they saved us from missing our taxi and flight. Really appreciate that! Location was good - about a 20 minute walk from the Bus Sur terminal on Avenida Colon. The walk was through a safe and pleasant neighborhood and took us past the famous municipal cemetery. There aren't many places to eat immediately close by except for El Arriero (which was excellent) but the main downtown area is about 15-20 minutes walking and is an enjoyable walk. Also, there was TV with a lot of channels - perhaps worth mentioning b/c that was unusual for hostels in this price range.

Review 5:Nothing ...

Review 6:*Very friendly welcome by the personnel, that is always available to help you, even though the communication is somertimes difficult (they only speak spanish but understand most of requests said in english)... *Good and copious breakfast (even at 4 AM, they prepared something for our breakfast, before our departure for the airport). *Cheap and comfortable rooms.

Review 7:It is a bit out of the city center but the taxi are cheap.

Review 8:We could arrive at 2 in the morning with no problem. The room was small but comfortable, and the bathroom was huge. It was quiet. The breakfast was ok.

Review 9:Clean and comfortable, with very helpful and friendly staff. One of best in Chile we've stayed in. Consistent hot water - rare in Chile. A bit out of town but short walk or collectivo ride to centre.

Review 10:The room was spotless, the staff was terrific! Everyone was welcoming and helpful and made terrific dining suggestions as well as offered to help in any way. High speed wifi, quiet location. Two thumbs up!

Review 11:The staff does not speak english and did not help us with directions in Punta Arenas. Moreover, the Hostal location is 20 minutes walking from the city center.

Review 12:The rooms are really confortable and clean. Moreover, the hostal has a private parking.

Review 13:Out of the properties control, but there was a dog out back of a neighboring property that barked incessantly each night. Made sleeping difficult at times.

Review 14:Safe environment and cozy rooms. A nice breakfast spread each morning. Friendly staff. Great value for the money. Easy walk to city center.

Review 15:Neighborhood is fine but it is a pretty long walk to town.

Review 16:The bus to Puerto Natales will pick you up right outside the hotel if you request the stop when you purchase your bus ticket.

Review 17:There isn't much to do directly around the hostel, however the downtown area is only about 10 - 15 minutes away (walking). The hostel asks guests to leave their room keys at the front desk when they leave for the day in order to avoid losing keys. This usually isn't a problem since there is a staff person present 24 hours a day to answer the door and tend to guests. However, we came back to the hostel late at night, and had to wait outside for a while because the staff person who usually opens the door for guests had fallen asleep. Luckily we were eventually able to rouse her and get back in to our room. I'm sure this situation doesn't happen often though.

Review 18:The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, and the staff was helpful. The staff also cleans the room and bathroom each day. The breakfast is simple, but filling (typical continental breakfast- toast, yogurt, ham, cheese, coffee).

Review 19:No fresh fruit at breakfast. No tea or coffee available during the day. Tiny shower cubicle with low water pressure.

Review 20:Our room was spacious, bright, well furnished and comfortably warm. Staff friendly.

Review 21:We got rooms on the ground floor which had basic isolation and woke up really early because of all the noise. Communication with the stuff was was very difficult as they didi not speak any english.

Review 22:Clean little hotel with friendly stuff.Located a 15min walk from the city center made an excellent base for us..

Review 23:Perhaps a bit far from the centre (15-20 mins walk) but next to important monument and also next to Cementery, well visited by tourists.

Review 24:Everything. The room and bathroom, the service and friendliness of the staff, the generous buffet breakfast. Very good wifi, nice lounge. Everything was perfect. Lots of collectivos will take you there.

Review 25:No complaints. However the place is outside of the center and therefore we had to use the taxi to get around. It didn't matter much to us as it was on the eve of your flight and we drove to the place + taxis rates were fairly cheap.

Review 26:Helpful staff and spacious parking area.

Review 27:Location was 30 minute walk to main restaurant area downtown however, a cheap taxi ride (1,300 pesos) would solve that problem. Did not test pet friendliness on this visit.

Review 28:Bed was large and comfortable. Bathroom was small but modern and clean. All areas were brightly painted and welcoming. Staff tried to help despite limited English and my poor Spanish.

Review 29:Everything was good.

Review 30:Marta was fantastic in organising bus tickets for me to Torres del Paine and all connections worked brilliantly. They stored my other luggage for ten days. Staff were very helpful trying to communicate with me having zero Spanish. My rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean. Thank you.

Review 31:the staff didn't know any foreign language.

Review 32:As we travelled to Puerto Natales and returned once again to Punta Arena,we could leave our heavy luggage . There was possibilty to eat breakfast before early flight ( at 4,30 am ).

Review 33:The prices are in General expensive in Punta Arenas. The Hostel is located a bit away from the center (appr 15 min walk)

Review 34:Room was clean and ok, heading worked in the evening, breakfast was great compared to other hostels, it was quiet there overnight. We also used the kitchen for cooking. Wifi was ok.

Review 35:The rooms were of good size and the bed comfortable. Linen was of good quality and room ver warm. Breakfast was very good value and the señora tried hard to help us

Review 36:When we walked in the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming and smelt very nice and clean. The lady at reception was very friendly even though she didn't speak English. This was the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in and very good value for money. 10 / 10

Review 37:Hostal was a bit sterile, breakfast was unimaginative, but typical for Chile.

Review 38:Quiet street, near Cemetery. Friendly staff, clean rooms, plenty of hot water and comfortable accommodations. Good wifi, and tele if you want it.

Review 39:The room was a little too warm.

Review 40:Great hostel, which was very homely. Friendly staff organised our trip to see the penguins, and recommended excellent restaurants. Fast WIFI. A solid 15 minute walk from the main plaza in town, but flat, and nothing to really worry about. Wide selection of things for breakfast.

Review 41:our room was on the ground floor so we could clearly hear the loud footsteps of folks on the 2nd floor. ear plugs are a must if you are easily bothered by this.

Review 42:nice place to stay when you're on a budget. the room and bathroom was fairly clean.

Review 43:It's a bit far from the centre, but still within walking distance. There is some wear and tear on the furniture, but as everything is kept very clean and tidy, didn't bother us at all.

Review 44:Everything was perfect. Cancelled my other bookings in this city to stay here instead. The staff doesn't speak any English, but are super helpful and nice. The place feels very cozy and is kept perfectly clean. The breakfast is great.

Review 45:Great nights Stay. Clean and the staff was very helpful

Review 46:Very nice staff; always willing to help. A cosy setting: a little mirandor for relaxing. A bit out of the city centre but only a short walk anyway

Review 47:very good hot shower

Review 48:Very clean and friendly! Would stay there again.

Review 49:Maybe to bright into the rooms... should had blinds

Review 50:Very clean with good breakfast.

Review 51:the staff did amazing communicating with my limited knowledge of Spanish, very friendly.

Review 52:The staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Very clean and cared for hostal.

Review 53:Very nice and clean hotel, coasy atmosphere. Very friendly and helpfull staff. Only positive impression. Definetly would stay there again.

Review 54:Only few parking lots available.

Review 55:Breakfast available from early morning

Review 56:Helpful friendly staff, huge comfortable bed, great shower, good breakfast, use of kitchen, luggage storage.

Review 57:Other customers were a bit noisy.

Review 58:Nice place to stay for a modest price.

Review 59:The guesthouse is difficult to find, although the location is good. The room was a little small. The breakfast was good, but not much variety.

Review 60:This is a guesthouse, not a hotel. It is comfortable and clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The bathroom was large and the shower and toilet worked well.

Review 61:This is my second time in a row. Been there in 2013 and I am back one year later. Everything is fine: delciious breakfast, helpful staff plenty of useful tips, well kept facilities, reliable wifi, etc.

Review 62:+/-: Not a nice environment, but efficiently run. Everything works, everything clean, safe, like in a hospital - even hand desinfectant at the reception.

Review 63:15 mn walking from the center

Review 64:Hotel comfort, great beds, great shower, very clean, simple buffet breakfast, the price is high but at the end really worth it

Review 65:Location is a little bit away from the centre.

Review 66:The staff person who welcomed us in the night was extremely helpful. Breakfast was good. Room was very spacious

Review 67:Thin walls.

Review 68:Good breakfast spread. Friendly staff who spoke only Spanish. They were willing to book penguin tours for us. Large room with double bed and attached private bath. Walls a bit thin, but that seems to be common in Chile. Good location, about a 12 minute walk to the central square, down a main street.

Review 69:The building seemed to be quite old and every single step bothers the ones staying downstairs.

Review 70:Staffs were so nice and very helpful to the travellers. Price was very good. Nice and hot shower. Plenty of room everywhere.

Review 71:Not very close to the town center, but that is easily rectified.

Review 72:My expectations from a Hostal weren't very high, but this one is almost a Hotel in every way. Very friendly staff that tries to communicate with you even if you don't speak Spanish, you can arrange some of your tours from there, but I advise to stick to the well known travel agencies. Close, but not very, to the town center; walk for 20 minutes or take a taxi for the minimum fare. Recommended.

Review 73:The wi-fi connection failed almost all the 4 days I've been there. The front desk people had to rester the modem over and over till we get connected.

Review 74:The hostal is cozy, clean, has a great staff and all amenities you find in a hotel (e.g. cable TV, private bathrooms). The breakfast is great. Even it is not so close to downtown, you can reach the city by a 15 minutes walk or taking one of the "colectivos", a share taxi that cost peanuts.

Review 75:The first staff member we encountered (night worker) was very rude andnot helpful. We booked a tour through the hostel and they messed up thepayment method which made the tour guide mad. Don't get your laundrydone through the hostel! It was a rip-off! They (over)charge by theitem. Wi-fi was not really working while we were staying there.

Review 76:Super clean rooms and bathrooms. One of few hostels that actually caresabout building maintenance and aesthetics. Nicest hostel we stayed in inChile (of 5). Within walking distance to the downtown area.

Review 77:The shower cubicle was very small and you had to be careful not to knock the tap handle as this would affect the temperature and flow of water. Wi-Fi was available but had to keep asking the staff to turn on the modem.

Review 78:The room was very comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure. The shared kitchen facilities were excellent and the area was spotlessly clean. Buffet breakfast was adequate of juice, cereal, yoghurt, bread, cheese, ham, pastries and tea & coffee. The hostel is located in a quiet area and about a 15min walk from town centre. The staff were very helpful even with their limited English and our limited Spanish. Overall very satisfactory.

Review 79:We stayed one night and we came back... the lady in de reception is amazing, helped us with everything even after our stay! Very comfortable and clean, nice simple breakfast, and Just a small walk from the city center... Perfect!!!

Review 80:The Hostal is located in what looks like a non-residential street and is about a 20 minutes walk from the center of Punta Arenas.

Review 81:For the money, a nice room and fully functioning bathroom.

Review 82:This small business in Punta Arenas city has been providibg service for about 8 years. Her manager Martita and owner are great people, service oriented. The rest of the staff very nice and providing an excellent job, keeping the hostal in a great shape. I'm very sure I'll stay in this place in my next visit.

Review 83:The lady working at the front desk was very nice even though she barely speaks English. But she tried her best to point out places for us to go see. The provided breakfast was fantastic given the price.

Review 84:Seemed like an older building. With the high winds, we listened to the walls & roof creaking most of the night. Checked in late & the person at reception was friendly but not very helpful at giving information about the city & were to go.

Review 85:Huge triple room. Private parking was available off-street. Pretty easy to find off of a major road.

Review 86:Absolutely nothing to complain!

Review 87:First of all, I am really thankful for the relentless support on thepart of Marta, manager of the hotel, who really made me everything andespecially the necessary arrangements I needed prior to my arrival andduring my stay. On behalf of myself, she deserves a standing ovation Myroom was cleaned on a daily basis and was really confortable. Despitethe fact that I stayed at the ground floor, the location was quietenough and I had a great time during my stay. Marta also helped me bookseveral tours in the surroundings, including the wonderful Torres delPaine Park at eleventh hour. Not an easy task, however, she made itproperly! Breakfast was also awesome and delicious. Finallly, they offerfree wifi which failed sometimes, but it is not an issue, because theirhospitality. Besides, it was repaired in no time, whenever I took noticeof this problem. To sum up, I will be beack and stay there once more.Highly recommended accommodation!

Review 88:Far from city centre. We came back at 11 pm one night and were nearly locked out as there was no one to let us in. Only a kind guest helped let us in.

Review 89:Clean rooms.

Review 90:Neigborhood looks a bit suspicious but is okay. Not so centrallylocated, if you want to go downtown you need to drive or takebus/ cab.

Review 91:Nice little hostal not too far from the airport. Very friendly staff.Good value for this prize. Private parking in the backyard of neded.

Review 92:15 min. walk to downtown (knew this in advance; no surprise)

Review 93:--Good value --Helpful front desk staff --Quiet --Self catering option --Guest laundry

Review 94:there was nothing i didn't like.

Review 95:great value. lovely rooms, beautiful breakfast room, nice sitting areas, wonderful location next to cemetery and shepherder statue, incredibility helpful staff. you can store food in fridge and use kitchen which is immaculate. a real find in an often overpriced town.

Review 96:The location of the hostal is not near the center.WI-FI was not working but there is a PC in the hostal

Review 97:Nice and confortable Hostal, very clean with gentle staff.

Review 98:Can't think of anything.

Review 99:Rather like a nice English guest house! Clean, comfortable, quietlocation, nice breakfast. Good value compared with some other places inthe same country.

Review 100:Staff only speaks Spanish which can get hard if your own Spanish isn't that good. The price for the laundry service is far to expensiv. The room was on the cold side as the heating was not turned on or out of service.

Review 101:Nice and helpfull staff. Clean rooms.

Review 102:it's quite far away from the city center, even though you can always get a ride with a "colectivo" (shared cab)

Review 103:Very friendly staff. Really nice and enormous room (# 201)

Review 104:nothing

Review 105:Very well designed rooms! Less than 10 minute walk to town/20 minutes to Plaza, Owner is very helpful, etc. Stayed 6 nts. They really clean rooms!!!

Review 106:Everything... staff, confort, kitchen. Feel like home.

Review 107:Wifi down for one day, average breakfast. Far from town (relatively speaking).

Review 108:Very clean, quiet, nice staff, spotless kitchen!

Review 109:Staff is very motivated to accommodate/assist the guest.

Review 110:Very clean hostel with great breakfast and staff who went out of their way (despite having to use translator app.
