Reviews for Hotel d'Alcantara
Review 1:Some traffic noise on the cobbled streets to be expected
Review 2:Spacious room unpretentious. Heating and bathroom efficient and very clean. One of best continental style breakfasts.
Review 3:The woman in charge of breakfast was happy for us to wait while she read the news on the Internet at Reception before giving us our basket of bread and juice. We had served ourselves from the buffet so I enquired about our bread. She reassured me she would bring it ... and carried on reading for a few minutes. Not good. There was only one other couple having breakfast at the time.
Review 4:Loved location and external appearance
Review 5:No bad experience, but would have loved some coffee making facility in the room.
Review 6:Lovely, clean and modern hotel. Location is great-close to city center and restaurants, WiFi was good,GREAT bed!!,staff were really helpful and friendly, excellent breakfast served.
Review 7:Tyres over cobbles in narrow streets make for noisy nights. Immediate neighbourhood rather sleazy. Woken by youths setting off car alarm at 3 am. Hotel needs secure private parking.
Review 8:The hotel has had a major facelift and the room & bathroom were both excellent. Stair carpet stained & could do with renewal. Breakfast adequate, though with inscrutable coffee-maker.
Review 9:That I was only there for one night - not enough!
Review 10:Hotel is smart, classy, tastefully refurbished, very centrally situated. Lovely little touches, beautiful toiletries, fruit laid out for us, choc on the pillow etc.
Review 11:Nothing to dislike.
Review 12:Good location near Grand Place. Our room was large, well equipped and nicely decorated, though the building layout is "quirky", as expected for an old building. Though not free, the small parking garage is reasonably priced and very secure. The staff were always helpful and friendly. There are plenty of restaurants and bars available a short walk away on Grand Place.
Review 13:Very hard to locate, even with the map we had printed off in advance. There are no signs to the hotel by the road it is in and the name of the road is invisible at the turning.
Review 14:Rather quirky old building. We had to navigate a maze to reach our room! But it was comfortable and large. Good breakfast. Free parking if you are happy to leave your car in the street directly outside. Easy walk into the centre of Tournai.
Review 15:We were lucky to stay at a public holiday night, otherwise parking problems. Annoying coffee machine in breakfast room!
Review 16:Just a short walk from Grand Place with nice restaurants. Artistic style. Good room with large bathroom. Good wifi.
Review 17:Very friendly service. Excellent breakfast buffet with a large selection of food. Clean and modern room and comfortable lounge area. Excellent location to visit the lovely city of Tournai.
Review 18:Breakfast staff was overwhelmed. Our group had to stand around waiting for tables to be cleaned in the dining area so we could sit down, while the young lady was either at the front desk checking people out or setting up additional place settings in another room.
Review 19:Good location Large rooms Nice front patio garden Friendly young man at front desk who accommodated our early arrival.
Review 20:room was close to the road and with open windows you hear the car noises
Review 21:the charming and unique environment very calm and not crowdy very rich breakfast choice comfy bed
Review 22:The reserved parking was cramped and difficult to access off a narrow street with no means of other cars passing while one was manoeuvring in or out.
Review 23:Its situation close to the centre of Tournai. Its quietness.
Review 24:Courtyard facing room was quiet, except the doors aren't soundproof & therefore lots of noise as soon as people start going to breakfast.
Review 25:Location perfect for all central attractions. Staff good when available! Good size room in double superior.
Review 26:my room (called Dali after the artist) looked a bit tired and didn't match the decor of the hotel. what I objected to the most was the very cheap pillows and the old fashion woollen blanket. they surely could invest in something better.
Review 27:the location was just perfect, right in the centre of town. all staff were friendly and welcoming. breakfast was good and it was very convenient to be able to park just outside. they've made a bit of an effort in contemporary design and the result was rather successful. great wifi
Review 28:Though there was masses of hot water in the immaculately clean bath room, a non-slip bath mat would have been good.
Review 29:From reception to checkout the staff were smiling and helpful. Breakfast was generous and from 7-10 - none of the rushed 'we want you business'. My room was always done early and promptly and to the same high standard as the first day. I always appreciate rooms where you can open the windows fully. In my case this was onto a lovely view over the courtyard to the church of St Jacques. The hotel was a few minutes walk to the river in one direction and to the charming Grand'place in another. Everything important within easy walking distance. Clean and quiet. Loved it.
Review 30:The main attraction of Tournai is the cathedral which is currently undergoing a major restauration. As a result it is not fully accessible (in fact: largely inaccessible). We were not aware of this, and hugely disappointed when we found out. So Tournai has lost its main attraction for the forseeable future (it will take years to restore the cathedral). It's currently not an attractive destination.
Review 31:The hotel is really nice, except if you are sensitive to noise and end up with a room to the street.
Review 32:However, unlike the Windows which where soundproof, the door really wasnt and that is probably where the constant noise of cars which kept us awake came from.
Review 33:We got the rock room which was beautifully renovated! Very Nice staff !
Review 34:Can't think of anything. No restautant on site but that did not matter because of the locality to the main square.
Review 35:The location of the hotel and the private parking reserved was very good. The hotel had obviously been renovated to a very high standard. We stayed in the Jazz Room, very large and more than expected. No aircon but fans which served the same purpose very well. Breakfast also very good.
Review 36:The beds (too soft); the bedsheets (too hard).
Review 37:The location; the charm; the breakfast
Review 38:Very central
Review 39:Nothing.
Review 40:Good location close to town centre. Private garage available. Good breakfast.
Review 41:soft bed, thin pillows
Review 42:location
Review 43:Family-run, friendly staff and comfortable. Good food.
Review 44:Disabled access is poor with no lift and parking is tricky.
Review 45:Stylish decor. Characterful building
Review 46:comfortable and cosy
Review 47:Attentive friendly staff, great breakfast and comfortable beds. Ideal location for local attractions
Review 48:Staff Friendly - Shopping - Restaurants - Comfortable Hotel
Review 49:Excellent central location
Review 50:cosy city hotel with friendly staff and comfortable accommodation .
Review 51:A little pricey for what it is.
Review 52:Allowed us to park our motorcycles in the courtyard.
Review 53:The hotel has a lot of character, is very well situated near the historic town centre and is attractively fitted and furnished.
Review 54:Nothing .
Review 55:Spacious room with bath as well as shower, comfortable bed, decent breakfast, secure parking nearby.
Review 56:No aircon, it was hot (summer visit) - with the windows open the cobbled street meant a noisy night
Review 57:Clean, nice location
Review 58:The quirkiness and interesting decorative and design details.
Review 59:No lift! Our room was on the second floor and as a mature couple we might have asked for something lower down if we had known beforehand.
Review 60:Staff were helpful and very friendly. Bar area was comfortable, pleasant and very relaxing. Room was enormous, very clean and well appointed and wonderfully private. Breakfast was very fresh and good. Wifi worked very well in communal areas but erratic in the room.
Review 61:Friendly, helpful staff. Building is traditional outside, smart and modern inside. Excellent quantity and variety of food for breakfast. Enclosed garden at front is a good place to sit with a cup of tea.
Review 62:You can hear the noise off the street during the night. The shower: not easy to find the right temperature. Suddenly it turn hot and then extremely cold
Review 63:A nice room.
Review 64:The rooms are a bit on the small side - especially if you are trying to fit a cot in it as well. The price is not cheap...
Review 65:The hotel is situated in the heart of the historic city. The rooms are 'themed', with Pop (sixties decor), Disco (seventies), etc. The staff are very friendly. There's off-street parking (for a fee). The breakfast is very good (and included in the price).
Review 66:Terribly soft and uncomfortable mattress, with ill-fitting sheets very slow internet connection dangerously slippery shower/bath water temperature changes from cold to scolding unpredictably
Review 67:roomy bathroom
Review 68:Room was dark and cramped though sold as a superior room. No lift. Atticroom was noisy from street traffic on cobbles. There was nothing on thebreakfast buffet at 9.00 and there was still nothing there when we left9.30. We had to sit in the foyer for "breakfast" as the smallbreakfast room was full.
Review 69:Location was very good. Some staff were friendly and helpful.Secure parking.
Review 70:No restaurant in the hotel and many places closed on sunday and monday.Uncomfortable chairs in the rooms.
Review 71:Lovely building, good location for Tournai. Good breakfast and helpfulstaff. Parking was easy.
Review 72:The room has no ventilation (can only open street level room window slightly) and is right on the street so there is lots of traffic noise due to the cobblestones.
Review 73:Great location. Excellent staff.
Review 74:Don’t expect all the Superior Double rooms to look like those spacy ones on the hotel pictures. Upon our arrival (Sept 1st), the receptionist introduced us into a crammed worn out room (“Monet“) and declared it to be Superior double. When we insisted on a change, she was quite rude and refused. Only after we showed her that 2 more Superior rooms were still available on their Booking.com hotel page , she agreed and showed us another room (also small and worn out) and then a slightly larger, renovated one (“Pop“) – so we took it although it was noisy on the ground floor, facing the busy street behind the hotel. All of these rooms were smaller than most of the nice and spacy rooms showed under Superior rooms in the booking process. The receptionist said the bigger ones were family rooms – not in the Superior double price category. We would not recommend to book one of the Superior double rooms we saw at €109, non-refundable condition!
Review 75:We liked the breakfast – French style incl. freshly pressed orange juice, all quality stuff. Also, the common spaces in the hotel look better than the rooms.
Review 76:Friendly staff, great rooms (we stayed in 'Pop' which had an orange feature wall with a picture of The Beatles on the wall), comfy beds, great breakfast, secure onsite parking (book in advance, there are only 4 spaces), great location, easy to find with sat nav, close to centre of town.
Review 77:No air con, it was 30 deg so we had to have the windows open. Very busy noisy street so no sleep for two nights.
Review 78:Architecture and design of the building. Clean room, laundry etc.
Review 79:Interior design, well maintained and constantly revised. Clean, comfortable, good location, no pb with parkings as we took the garage (ask to reserve, there are only 3/4 places)
Review 80:Only one room key was available, which is a problem if two adults want to go their own way and come back at different times. The desk is manned 24/7 however.
Review 81:An Excellent hotel with each room having its own decor based on a musical theme.
Review 82:On arrival the staff knew nothing of our reservation. Luckily a room was available. Coffee at breakfast was poor. You had to pay for wifi, when it was free at other hotels costing less to stay. Room was dismal.
Review 83:The facilities of the lounge and breakfast room and the room and bathroom.
Review 84:The room was on the ground floor facing a street. Guests were asked not to open the windows, presumably as a security measure. Although there was a ceiling fan, it was very hot and stuffy at night. If I stayed here again, I would want a room at the back overlooking the garden.
Review 85:The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of choice at breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and an amazing coffee machine. The bedroom and bathroom were pristine and the windows soundproof. It was only a short walk to the Grand Place with plenty of bars and restaurants.
Review 86:Unless prebooked car parking is a problem double check prebooking toensure you a parking space.
Review 87:Rooms clean and comfortable Breakfast good choice Good location forcenter Tournai
Review 88:The bath was somewhat slippery for showering unless one held on to the pipework - it could have done with a non-slip mat or coating. We were on the second floor and there wasn't a lift. Not a critical problem but it discouraged too many trips up to the room!
Review 89:It is an interesting, old building which has been well-updated with modern interior design and beautifully chosen fittings. Our bathroom, in particular, was sumptuous! The bed was comfortable and the storage space was the most we have ever seen in a B&B. A very good breakfast with a good selection of food and a bottomless coffee pot. The entire hotel is characterful, with touches of humour - our room was not numbered but called 'Jazz'.
Review 90:The hotel has only very limited reserved parking and could do with trying to find some more.
Review 91:The hotel had a fabulous modern design within the shell of an 18th century building. It was very comfortable and centrally located. I recommend the hotel.
Review 92:Limited parking?
Review 93:A stylish, cool hotel.
Review 94:Bathroom a bit outdated
Review 95:Bedroo with modern design Good breakfast
Review 96:Excellent breakfast.
Review 97:Rooms, staff, location and decor. All very good. Facilities great.
Review 98:I would prefer to use elevator instead of climbing upstairs with heavy luggage.
Review 99:Location, staff, breakfast, parking were really good.
Review 100:Not sure about room themes Parking problematic
Review 101:Breakfast Good location
Review 102:Wi-Fi signal not consistent
Review 103:A bijou hotel with a difference. Designer rooms, comfortable bed and excellent breakfast made for an outstanding stay.
Review 104:Could do with a kettle in the room for coffee. Would prefer a shower, but bath was good.
Review 105:Location, staff. Room size good.
Review 106:We loved the quiet setting, the pleasant room, original design and quality service. We look forward to returning.
Review 107:Cost too much.

Review 110:WC being seperate from bathroom with no sink
Review 111:Felt a bit understaffed
Review 112:Quirky character, Very near beautiful main square and restaurants Free wifi Good value
Review 113:Location, efficient staff, comfortable room, inclusion of breakfast in room price
Review 114:No elevator. No airco. Very noisy road.
Review 115:Breakfast.
Review 116:Not a very cozy place.
Review 117:It was pretty close to the center of the city.
Review 118:Nothing, this hotel ticks all the boxes.
Review 119:Very quiet for a city hotel. Garage parking (at extra cost) an added bonus. Breakfast wonderful!
Review 120:It was very expensive in view of its very modest quality.
Review 121:None
Review 122:Slow service
Review 123:location excellent
Review 124:Room a little dark. had to have light on...but not a real problem!
Review 125:Friendly and helpstaff and design of hotel
Review 126:Very hot room
