Reviews for Victorian Hotel

Review 1:My room was close to a couple of shared bathrooms. There was quite a bit of door banging, but this is an old building with rooms close together ... so a bit of noise is to be expected.

Review 2:The second time I have stayed at this hotel. The rooms are very comfortable. Old wood floors and high ceilings. The shared bathrooms are very new and immaculately clean. Very good value for money in Vancouver.

Review 3:the location is sketch. But that's not their fault. It's an old building that's been there for a long time

Review 4:Staff is so nice. We had a group of people in our room and they were very accommodating. Helped calling a cab, gave us suggestions on places to go. We are all from Vancouver but they still managed to help us out with directions

Review 5:I was absolutely delighted with everything about my stay. The location and standard of the room were perfect and the wonderful staff just topped it off. I was travelling on my own with a four month old baby and the staff went out of their way to help.

Review 6:Nothing. The rooms are quite close together, and I imagine that if it were busy, it could possibly get a bit noisy.

Review 7:This is a very interesting hotel. Very comfortable rooms in a heritage building. The bathrooms are shared, but they are very new and kept spotlessly clean. This must be one of the best value hotels in Vancouver!

Review 8:There was nothing to not like!

Review 9:Great location with a free continental breakfast and parking for a small add on fee. Walking distance to all major locations ie Gastown, Robson, restaurants, etc..and close to transportation for additional city touring if desired. A Safe, sane, clean & comfy in city B&B! We upgraded for a room with bath. But shared bath would have been fine.

Review 10:Hotel and rooms were not very sound proof, old building. Day time attendant wasn't the the most friendly, over night attendant was!

Review 11:Comfortable beds, clean rooms, vintage feel.

Review 12:My only complaint was that the in-room coffee was bland. This is not a real complaint.

Review 13:Don't be put off buy the Salvation Army across the street. I am a nearly 60 year old woman. I have travelled all over the world and consider myself a value traveler. The Victorian is centrally located to transportation, nightlife and downtown. It is clean, safe, and pleasant. The breakfast got my day started. I plan to stay here whenever I am in Vancouver.

Review 14:My only negative comment relates to acoustic isolation which is quite poor. Might be a problem if you get noisy neighbors.

Review 15:Perfect location. Excellent value for money. Warm welcome. Nice room, comfortable bed.

Review 16:Our only criticism is the breakfast is held a bit early (7-9) - for most this would be ok but after arriving around 3 am we were forced to miss it.

Review 17:We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Victoria. Great location. The hotel is nicely decorated and the shared bathrooms were new and kept clean. Service was friendly and helpful and we really appreciated being able to leave our suitcases due to our late flight.

Review 18:nothing.... just the jet leg because i couldnt wake up early for breakfast

Review 19:good location right in the middle of the city. very affordable and rooms and beds are comfortable

Review 20:The continental breakfast was the worst I have ever experienced. Wish I could submit a photo. I ended up purchasing my own or going without The cleaning of our room and corridors was very erratic The room looked out onto a car park Our room was so hot even though we opened the windows. The temperature outside was cold but the room remained hot

Review 21:The set up and size of the room and bathroom was spacious and very comfortable. Helpfulness of Service Manager

Review 22:The variety of the food options for breakfast can be improved.

Review 23:Location is extremely good--by walking several blocks, you will reach the center of the city. The room is very cozy and the bed is very comfortable for a sound sleep.

Review 24:This hotel is located near trendy Gastown with plenty of restaurants and shops. It has nice furniture and fittings in an historical setting. Note that there is no elevator.

Review 25:I did see a silverfish...old building though.

Review 26:It was my friend's bachelorette, and the gentleman behind the counter when we went out for dinner sang "here comes the bride" to her. She loved it.

Review 27:Our room faced W. Pender St, it was a bit noisy.

Review 28:The room was just great. It was spacious, the sitting alcove added a lot to the comfort. The proximity to Gastown restaurants is also a plus. Parking was also very convenient.

Review 29:It should be noted that the hotel has no lift. Lugging bags up the stairs can be a bit of a pain.

Review 30:Pretty close to Gastown and within a short walk of other areas and public transit access.

Review 31:Breakfast was very basic, more selection of cereals, perhaps including cold meats and cheese.

Review 32:Lovely boutique style hotel, great location and friendly helpful staff.

Review 33:No real complaint, but breakfast could have a bit more variety, I.e. Choice of jams perhaps, variation of fruit on offer. Also tea/ coffee facility in bedrooms would be good.

Review 34:Bathrooms, bedrooms and position

Review 35:We felt unsafe walking there. The Wi-Fi got disconnected a lot One of the stuff was so rude and tried to rob us. All the stuff weren't very friendly and helpful. The parking cost more than it says at the booking. There is a lot of stairs and no elevator and the stuff does NOT . help you carry

Review 36:Continental breakfast rather basic and often not sufficient seating

Review 37:Recent refurbishment has provided attractive, comfortable rooms with good bathroom facilities

Review 38:Small rooms, no air conditioner therefore rooms were stuffy and it was very noisy if you opened the windows, breakfast was below basic as there were not enough seats and they were always running out of food

Review 39:Cute hotel, friendly staff, modern & clean bathrooms

Review 40:the bathroom room wouldn't let us out from inside and asked a few times for it get fixed until it was. dirty outside hotel. breakfast was limited and not much room for many people. the bed hurt our backs as there wasn't much support. the toilet continued to not flush so we had to use their public toilet. pretty noisy but considering it's in Gastown.

Review 41:location wasn't bad and style of room was nice. always greeted us coming in or out

Review 42:I was unlucky with asking questions about Vancouver at reception; the answers sometimes were wrong or misleading.

Review 43:The room was nice (small, but quite enough for me).

Review 44:The hotel manager.

Review 45:All staf was really friendly except the hotel manager (a lady) who was really nasty to the rest of the staff. She was really bad to them & it took the whole experience down.

Review 46:Refreshing change from typical chain hotel, but still in downtown Vancouver. Willing to hold our luggage at no additional charge the next morning while we explored.

Review 47:Comfortable room, with fan, excellent bathrooms. A relaxed feel to the hotel. Staff did their best to accommodate visitor wishes. They were well informed about the locality. Extremely well situated for reaching all parts of Vancouver.

Review 48:Several steps to climb to get to the lobby with our very heavy luggage.

Review 49:The Victorian architecture was beautiful. The guest rooms were fresh and modern.

Review 50:Loved the hardwood floors, high ceilings and general retention of the old time feel. Staying away from that corporate hotel feel. There's a great cafe two minutes away on Pender.

Review 51:Room was tiny, housekeeping threw out my personal belongings, toilets were often plugged. Shared bathrooms were a big problem, especially in the morning.

Review 52:Location was ideal.

Review 53:The room 28 has a broken window, which cannot close or open wider, although it does not really affect anything during my stay, I felt not satisfied with how the employee dealt with this issue, also, this broken window seemed to be unfixed for a while (I saw other comments complaining the same thing), and they just did not take it seriously!

Review 54:The room was cozy, small but just enough. The shared bathroom is clean, bright and big enough. The building is old, but has been taken care of very nicely. The breakfast doesn't have many choices but good enough for any travellers. Overall the place is really nice but the price is a bit too higher and the room 28 I was staying would be too small for two people.

Review 55:The only problem was that it was kind of hot and but we had a floor fan which is totally fine. The problem was that the fan didn't rotate when I thought it should it had enough buttons on it to make it look like I just needed to find the right one. When I started messing with it the fan totally died. After 20 minutes of fumbling with it I got it to work again. There was a short in the fan but wasn't a big enough of a problem to call the front desk about plus it was late and just wanted some sleep.

Review 56:I love the old properties that are well maintained this one definitely was a great find

Review 57:Room was quite small and nowhere to really unpack suit cases. Breakfast room was far too small for number of guests

Review 58:Decoration of the room was contemporary and well done

Review 59:The space was very limited around the bed which made it difficult to actually find somewhere to put our 2 suitcase. One would have fitted on the floor in the wardrobe but in the end, apart from removing toiletry bags we kept them closed up until morning and then opened them on the bed. Also, my pet gripe, a bedside lamp on only one side of the bed. The breakfast room was also very tiny but the croissants were delicious :)

Review 60:Excellent staff, very friendly. Refurbished room and brand new bathroom all immaculate.

Review 61:Some musty smells and no bacon a little noisy as on main roads in city

Review 62:The large comfortable bed and good location lots of space and good chairs and shower

Review 63:Lack of space to hang up clothes (no closet at all).

Review 64:Excellent croissants, hot tea/coffee, and fruit salad every morning. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff.

Review 65:Nothing really bad but breakfast could be different every other day or more options

Review 66:Staff was amazing. The gentleman and blonde woman at the front desk were so helpful and warm! I loved the location.

Review 67:We received a lovely, warm, friendly welcome at reception after a long flight. Our superior king room on the corner was a welcome surprise. Very comfortable bed and lovely spacious room. The free computer and printer on the landing was useful to print our boarding passes! All staff were extremely helpful, pleasant, and informative. Thank you all for making our stay so special :) :)

Review 68:Price was a bit high for accommodation with a shared bathroom.

Review 69:Funky and super nice staff. I liked the shabby chic of the second hand furniture - but the bathroom was ultra modern and spotlessly cleaned. Also one block from Hirseshie Bay bus. Very convenient

Review 70:In keeping with its age, there are no elevators so that you need to use stairs and there is no central air-conditioning. Hence out room was warm but with the in room fan, sleeping was not an issue.

Review 71:We spent three nights at the Victorian Hotel. The hotel is old but has been recently refurbished. We had a large room at the front of the hotel and unlike others did not notice any street noise despite the windows being open. The hotel is also convenient for access to lots of areas in central Vancouver. Breakfasts are simple but sufficient and best of all the staff is wonderful. Cecile was particularly great. Not only did she always have a pleasant greeting for you but she was also very helpful with the information she provided. We would definitely stay again.

Review 72:Others have noted the lack of AC, however we had the windows open with the fan provided and it was OK.

Review 73:The staff were enthusiastic, very professional and polite, and responsive! Wow.

Review 74:It was very noisy outside our window in the morning due to the bins being below in the courtyard area

Review 75:Our room was very clean and made up beautifully each day

Review 76:So hot we needed to have the windows open so the noise from all night traffic caused us to have only one or two hours of sleep. Very poor value when you are traveling. The reception area carpet/rug is filthy, almost caused me to reject the stay. The hallway was also dirty.

Review 77:The furnishings are classy and charming, the bed hard but nice linens and pillows. The amenities are fine but you'd expect the hair products to be filled to the brim. The location is exactly what we wanted, to be in Gastown. The staff is very kind and polite.

Review 78:The room was very hot and the fan the hotel provided was not enough to cool it down, so we had to leave the door open.

Review 79:The location was great and the staff very helpful.

Review 80:The room was basically the size of the double bed. And the price was expensive considering how small it was.

Review 81:It was in the perfect location....walking distance to BC Place. Lots of restaurants closeby. We parked on the street and the desk clerk helped us out by feeding the meter for us while we were at a concert. When do you ever get service like that!

Review 82:My room has just been renovated and the shower had just been installed and I was not allowed to use shower on the first day. Whilst I was discounted for this inconvenience they really should not have let the room to a guest if not all facilities working. Breakfast could be improved.

Review 83:Nice staff, renovated room was lovely and modern.

Review 84:The hot/cold in our shower was switched- I scalded myself trying to turn it down. Also the hairdryer seemed to have burned out the socket it was in.. We removed it from the plug for safety. The wifi was also quite spotty. All in all though, these were very minor. We still loved our stay!

Review 85:Hotel was just lovely; the bed was cozy, room was nicely appointed, and the most amazing bathrobes (!!) Very friendly staff too. Location was great, plenty of restaurants and shops in easy walking distance!

Review 86:poor breakfast to many guests wanting breakfast at the same time, decorating and general building, or alterations going on and a bit of a mess !!! guess its ok now.

Review 87:location

Review 88:Very poor breakfast, I tried it the first day and did not come back. It seems that they would like to pay a low as they can for the breakfast. No A/C, so don't even think to come to this hotel in July! I tried to get some cold air from the window but it was so noisy. Most of the noise in the morning come from some who are work for the hotel, but they did not respect the guests and kept the sound so high. The rooms do not smell good, I do not think that it will cost the hotel to much to solve this problem. The wooden floors make sound when any body walks.

Review 89:The reception and housekeeper are so friendly and respectful. The public pathroom and shower.

Review 90:Breakfast room can be a bit crowded in the morning. Building is very beautiful (old Victorian-style) but unfortunately also has the Victorian noise insulation norms -> bring earplugs if you are sensitive for noise during the night.

Review 91:Overal very good choice to stay in central Vancouver; will definately stay there again. Friendly staff Breakfast good. Wifi well working.

Review 92:the traffic was louder then I thought it would be. some folks were talking loudly outside around 3:00 am not airconditioned therefore had to leave window open

Review 93:Beautiful hotel , very close to where we were going.

Review 94:It dosent have AC so we had to have windows open and the traffic was very loud and made it hard to sleep. Also going the wrong direction one block led us to a very bad area of town. Drugs, homeless, and trashy. We did not want to be out at night. Follow staff directions! The breakfast is very meager. Canned fruit not fresh. Very small selection of bread and cereal. coffee was good. Also they are under construction so there is a lot of noise.

Review 95:I liked that it was an old Victorian. It is close to everything. It was clean and comfortable.

Review 96:The breakfast choice was poor, also when I went to sit in the breakfast room, couldn't fit as it was all full and crowded.

Review 97:The staff were very helpful and friendly, bed was very comfortable, good location easy to get around.

Review 98:The breakfast room was small and crowded with no tables available when we arrived so we had to sit in the lobby chairs with plates on our laps. There was a shortage of supplies i.e. (no coffee mugs or water glasses left and no forks). The food was bread, cereal and what tasted like canned fruit, so if you aren't inclined to eat carbs, I would plan on having breakfast elsewhere.

Review 99:Staff was friendly and the room was clean. Easy walking to Gastown and waterfront and close to the Queen Elizabeth theater so we could walk to and from our show.

Review 102:That being said, I can not recommend this place if it's too hot outside. The rooms have fans and no air conditioner (I did know this going in and took this risk ourselves). We happened to hit Vancouver during a heat wave. It was miserably hot in the rooms. I also wish breakfast was served until 10.

Review 103:I really enjoyed this hotel. The rooms are large and beautiful the bed was comfortable and I loved how personal it felt. After a week on a cruise ship, I loved the large bathrooms. I would absolutely come back during the fall or spring. In fact, my parents who also stayed are planning a return trip in November.

Review 104:Aged persons need to be fit as steps and stairs. Chairs in reception uncomfortable -- replace!

Review 105:Centrality in city. Unpretentious. Not "over the top". Proximity to Gastown. Good continental breakfast. When I left hearing aids behind on checking out staff ran around block to return them. That's service!

Review 106:Hotel seems to be undergoing building work- no warning of this on website and reception area/breakfast room as looking pretty shabby. Lady working on front desk was often grumpy and seemed too busy to help or be friendly. We had a shared bathroom room. Bathrooms were modern and clean but often ran out of bath mats. Our room was tiny- the nightly rate was far too much considering how small it was. There was barely enough room to open a suitcase on the floor. The wall was also really grubby down the side of the bed. No air con in the room so got pretty hot (although they do inform you of this on website and a fan is provided). Overall it's not awful and better set-up than a hostel but far too much money for what you get.

Review 107:Really good location for downtown. Very close to waterfront station, Gastown and Roger's arena

Review 108:Shower had no spray in 206 - just a stream of water like a hose - NO AC - without the fan we would have been roasting on the spit - all that would be missing is the BQ sauce

Review 109:Great sized room - clean - bathroom was large and fairly modern - fairly quite considering its downtown - parking is decent - staff polite - cost maybe a bit high - good WIFI - location brilliant

Review 110:Room may get a bit warm in summer

Review 111:I haven't done a shared bathroom hotel for quite a while but left accom till last minute. I saw this and the location seemed ok. When I got there I was pleasantly suprised.

Review 112:I did not like that the room did not have a mini fridge. I feel this is very important for a room to have.

Review 113:I really liked the location. The service was very good. I felt at home.

Review 114:Even though we were an hour past our allotted check in our room wasn't ready nor the bathroom, although the young chambermaid was brilliant & got it sorted as quickly as she could but seemed to be alone to do all of the rooms! Very creaky, noisy floor in the room above us. No juice at breakfast. Didn't find the woman receptionist very friendly, but the lad in the evening was very friendly & chatty.

Review 115:Comfortable bed & clean

Review 116:No A/C in room. In june was hot weather and A/C will be good to have. Noise from street and same breakfast every day.

Review 117:Location, frendly staff. Hotel is clean, service is good. WiFi is ok

Review 118:The Wi-Fi was a little spotty. Would've liked to have the bathroom as an ensuite, but it wasn't that bad, my room was really close to it and the bathroom was large, great shower head and very clean-so not a big deal

Review 119:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect for my conference and just a few blocks from amenities and restaurants and Canada Place. The room was cozy and had great bathroom and towels. It was clean. Wasn't sure about the lack of air condition at first, but the fan worked great! Breakfast was a great addition too

Review 120:Staff were a bit...curt. Free continental breakfast was cleaned-up IMMEDIATELY at 9am - Don't straggle or you lose out.

Review 121:Great location, very nice room (though ours was one that had been renovated in an on-going remodeling), reasonable parking.

Review 122:I would not have liked being on the any floor other than the 1st. There is no elevator.

Review 123:Rooms were very clean and nice. Location is great for the downtown area.

Review 124:This hotel is located in a seedy neighbourhood in downtown Vancouver. It is situated directly across from what is called "Pigeon Park" (home of many drug dealers and other upstanding members of the community), also across the street is a deserted building with the windows busted out and a strip club. We had booked what looked like a large, beautiful room but apparantly a pipe burst and we were given a room the size of a closet - my husband could lie on the bed and touch both walls. Bed had no support, too soft and uncomfortable. Terrible experience, we were travelling with over 40 other ppl who also stayed at this "hotel" and everyone felt the same way.

Review 125:It can get noisy at night from traffic.

Review 126:Stayed in superior king bedroom for one night. A few steps away from downtown and easy access to public transportation.

Review 127:The parking situation was a bit tricky (had to park in a garage two streets over). Had to lug my gear to the hotel and back, which wasn't too convenient. They should advise guests of this before they check in, perhaps through email.

Review 128:I liked how close the hotel was to Rogers Arena, and my room, albeit small, was clean and comfortable. I sure wish I could have stayed in Vancouver for longer than a day. Such a beautiful city!

Review 129:The room was tiny and noisy with a ventalator shaft outside. There was no hanging space which meant I had to live out of my suitcase for 8 days!

Review 130:The bed was comfortable.

Review 131:Not a bad experience, just think breakfast could be a bit more varied.

Review 132:Lovely boutique hotel, close to amenities and walking distance to restaurants etc. etc. Staff was very accommodating and pleasant.

Review 133:Tv didn't work, the cable was down, they said they would give us a$10.00 credit, but we forgot to confirm when we checked out, sodidn't get it. Not really a big deal for us. The lobby and hallwaysare not as nice as the rooms, again, not a big deal for us.

Review 134:Our room appeared to have been recently remodeled, was very clean, andthe beds were so comfortable! WiFi worked well.

Review 135:The only two negatives were that the room go very warm, even with the window open and a fan on. Also, the breakfast was fairly meager with a few bread options and canned fruit. Other than that it was a great place to stay!

Review 136:Conveniently located to Gastown and easy walking distance to downtown as well as easy access to public transit. The hotel staff was very friendly and the hotel room was very clean and quaint.

Review 137:The poor communication ( or non communication) of the staff really let this hotel down. Each problem that occurred was only acknowledged by the staff after we raised concerns. It would have been good had they told us there would be noise issues, no television and no internet with some degree of politeness and helpfulness. Having no elevator was annoying but understandable, but grotty, untouchable handrails out to the street was inexcusable. The quality of the breakfast on offer is very basic.

Review 138:The delux room size was good with nice beds. Our room was lovely, but our friend's room was very poor, both in size and the level of noise they were subjected to with no apology or concern shown by the staff.

Review 139:We were not informed at time of booking that there was no elevator.

Review 140:The beds were very comfortable. Rooms clean. Breakfast very good. Staff friendly & helpful.

Review 141:The hotel is located opposite a Salvation Army - lots of harassment from homeless people, particularly in the evenings. The sound from the street (particularly in the summer with the windows open), even at the back of the hotel is reasonably loud.

Review 142:The Victoria hotel has a central location, and the shared bathrooms are kept impeccably clean. Good value for money.
