Reviews for Pousada Alto Astral

Review 1:mosquitos, the pousada should mention that the stairs are very small (not practical if you have to carry stuff or babies).

Review 2:Location, swimming pool, garden

Review 3:Avoid Room 4 if you can. It's very narrow, and just a little bit odd!

Review 4:An eclectic place with nice garden and pool/deck area. Probably the most interesting breakfast buffet I've seen for a while!

Review 5:Wiki signal had a lot of breaks Lot of mosquitos and you can't completely close the room (bathroom)

Review 6:Location Breakfast Backyard with swimming pool and nice suroumding area for chill out

Review 7:I got electrocuted in the shower trying to change the temperature, so did my dad, and when my mom took a shower the water stopped running.. The guy at the front desk said he would fix it but he just stuck the green wire that was hanging out into a hole and it fell out again later. Everything is very haphazardly wired and when you plug things in to charge they kind of vibrate like the electric current is wrong or something. The lightbulb in our bathroom also went out. The room always had a smell like piss in it that seemed to be coming through the bathroom window the opened to an adjacent building? Bathroom by pool did not flush. At breakfast, there was a really obnoxious tourist that totally ruined our breakfast because he would not stop talking to us about himself. Not the hotel's fault but really soured our breakfast. The narrow spiral staircases can be difficult to go up with heavy luggage. The receptionist on duty when we came was not helpful at all and just kept talking on her cell phone when we arrived (I think this is a cultural thing but I find it extremely unprofessional). It would be nice if the pousada sold things like water, ice and beer, maybe also some light snacks and had a bar by the pool. The location is great but can be very busy and hard to find parking to unload your luggage. Plan to check in before late hours in the night on weekends.

Review 8:Nicely decorated, very colorful, big variety at breakfast (very rich food), pool, backyard, sitting areas, art, quiet at night for sleeping. Fun and funky place. Night shift guy accompanied us personally to a bar late at night to make sure we got there okay, which was very nice of him.

Review 9:Internet was spotty.

Review 10:Loved it. Had a great vibe to it. Our room opened up to the pool and was very spacious. Bed was comfortable. A very unique place indeed.

Review 11:the room looked nice, but there was mold in a corner, and when we turned the pretty pillows on the bed around, they were also partially moldy. Another big problem that made our stay a lot less nice where the mosquitoes, thousands of mosquitoes that made it almost impossible to sleep because of the mosquito bites. Mosquitonets in front of the window might help, but were not there...

Review 12:arty room, nice view on the garden, central location, cute little monkeys came to our breakfast table, hammock in the garden

Review 13:Nothing - all good (don't have a fear of narrow stairs as there is plenty of them in this place)

Review 14:All rooms are different and unique Loads of space - breakfast-dinning area, garden, pool etc Comfy beds Rooms had lots of character, art, lovely french doors upon their windows

Review 15:When I tried to cook something for my dinner at kitchen, I heardsound something in the kitchen. And that was a mouse. Many ants, andmouse at kitchen. Omg. And no one can speaks English. So much naturein that hostel.

Review 16:Location. To walk around.

Review 17:Breakfast was super, location great: close to many interesting places.

Review 18:the garden and the colours

Review 19:Room needed to be refreshed, no hot water avail., no screens for Windows and doors permitting insects to come in

Review 20:Location, breakfast, gardens, pool

Review 21:Cheescake at breakfast are wonderful! Very good place!

Review 22:Breakfast was ordinary.

Review 23:Staff are pleasant to complement the colorful and lively ambiance of pousada.

Review 24:Only real downside of the place was that my particular bed had bedbugs. If it weren't for that (which unfortunately is a pretty big downside) would highly recommend this place.

Review 25:Overall, the right location and vibe for a place in Olinda. Nice that it has a pool and the raised platform with hammocks to chill out in. Great breakfast with lots of options.

Review 26:Would be better if WiFi worked in the rooms or out the back rather than just the small room at the front.

Review 27:Awesome design - both the back garden & my suite looked amazing! Lots of variety at breakfast too. Good location on a nice street close to some great restaurants.

Review 28:Very nice place to hang out with a pool and games in a nice garden. Place is very clean and lots of art around. I would highly recommend anyone wanting a great place to stay. We stayed in room 9 which was a triple and a view over the pool from the third floor.

Review 29:When we arrived at 9pm there was a full scale private party for the owner's daughter which was playing extremely loud music. we were first informed it would be over at midnight but then later were told it would go on until 6am!! We were offered a room in their sister hotel up the road but this was a very small twin room and not what we booked. After much complaining the owner agreed to upgrade us to the deluxe suite for the week which we had for the next two nights until it rained. the room leaked and so we were moved to another room at 1am, again after much complaining. this room had a drainage issue and also leaked so the following day we moved to yet another room where we stayed for the remainder of the week. A total of 5 rooms in 7 nights!!! All in all the hotel is a great place but we were not given the experience you would expect.

Review 30:location and facilities were good and the hotel garden is very restful with good seating areas including a 'tree top' hammock area. it also has a good pool to cool off in. staff were all friendly

Review 31:I more and less liked everything. but going there after carnaval can be a bit lonely for solo traveller, since all people staying are families.

Review 32:You fell in love when you just walk from door, the colors, the arty look of all the house is amazing. It is really vey "olinda" hostel/hotel that you know you are in art town. Breakfast was very rich as well. i definately recommend it.

Review 33:Great small hotel right in the town of Olinda. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast every day was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The grounds were well maintained. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 34:Stupid lights on private balcony - choice of red or flashing disco. We would have liked a normal light! Most of the staff were really unfriendly. We had an issue with communication as we don't speak portugese and they don't speak English however there was no attempt at being helpful at all. The cleaning staff, and those that prepared breakfast were lovely though and greeted us warmly and all very smiley unlike the staff on reception!

Review 35:The hostel itself was great, our double room with balcony was lovely. The pool was great. Good area to hang out, play on the football table, chill in hammock. Great breakfast.

Review 36:TV did not pick up any channels. Very noisy street on the lead up to carnival but the vibe was awesome. When we wanted to sleep we just wore ear plugs.

Review 37:Beautiful stylish pousada. Very well decorated, rooms are very cute. We had a room on the top floor with a balcony over looking the pool and a beautiful well kept garden. Plenty to choose from at breakfast. Loved this place and would highly recommend staying here. Location is perfect.

Review 38:-rooms are a bit small and dark, when not having a pool view. -Mosquito nets at the windows woud be nice. . in the annex the music school next door might make you use some earplugs

Review 39:It's an amazing place. You can see that someone really wanted to make it special. Especially the garden/pool area is a little paradise. And the breakfast buffet was the best we ever had in brasil. The following negative points shouldn't keep you from going there, it's more some suggestions...

Review 40:That the TV, sound system, jacuzzi... were not pluged and there was no explaination at all.

Review 41:The suite room with the jacuzzi and the backyard of the pousada.

Review 42:access to the pousada, far from any restaurant, and the receptionist indicated us a restaurant that was closed at night. We had to walk 20 mon to the village to go to a very bad place for dinner...

Review 43:Nice staff, big room with a sea view, nice garden

Review 44:We booked a room with wellnessbathtube, which we could not use. There was only cold water. For this we paid about double price. On my request for some price reduction we got no disount at all. Nevertheless staff were quite friendly.

Review 45:Good location, staff friendly.

Review 46:The staff only spoke Portugese. Extremely narrow stairs to the room.

Review 47:Centrally located. I got a room with a great view over Recife - which also meant that I avoided noise from the street. As most hotels in Brazil: good breakfast.

Review 48:Old and in bad shape. Very basic conditions. Extremely expensive forwhat you get. For the same price I just had a hotel in Paris, 10 timesbetter and cleaner. Stained towels (looking dirty).

Review 49:Location is good. Helpfull and kind staff, even though not wellprepared.

Review 50:In the room I stayed there was a leak in the bathroom. That needs to be improved.

Review 51:Pousada do Alto Astral was secure, clean, quiet and well located. It was good for what I paid.

Review 52:Poor bathroom facilities, only one towel and no soap etc. Wifi only in the reception area. Some days I had very strong noise from machines placed outside my room, i guess for the climate or something.

Review 53:The localication is very good in the middle of the old town, still surrounded by nature and trees. My room had a view to the beautiful garden and the swimmingpool. A friendly and unpretentional atmosphere makes it easy to connect to other guests and the personal. Breakfast is good with many brazilean dishes. I spent a very good time at this pousada.

Review 54:Some rooms have only one window to the corridor but not even one to theoutside. It is maybe neither the comfort nor the service that providesextra value but the uniqueness of the whole place itself. Even with somesmaller rooms the pension offers some comfort and space due to thepositive, colourful and culturally attractive environment.

Review 55:A funny architecture combining both natural and artificial mainly woodenelements, a colourful design with many modern pieces made by artistsfrom the region, a wonderful garden with big trees combining nature andexpressively colourful decoration, a very familiar and highly invitingsurrounding inside of the pension and in the rooms, too. A completelydifferent feeling compared to the huge majority of Brazilianaccommodations !

Review 56:Quirky and bizarre constructions and paintings Excellent really enjoyed it Good location in centre of old town Staff happy using on line translation tools when your portuguese is not up to it

Review 57:There is not a shampoo as the amenity in the bathroom. I could notcommunicate with the staffs with English nor Spanish. Não há um xampucomo a comodidade na casa de banho. Eu não poderia se comunicar com opessoal com o Inglês ou espanhol.

Review 58:The staffs are very friendly. The interior design is very beautiful andhas typical taste of Olinda. Os funcionários são muito simpáticos. Odesign interior é muito bonito e tem sabor típico de Olinda.

Review 59:There were some minor issues. The most practical one is that they were not taking any card (temporarily, according to the hotel staff). The breakfast room is quite small, but they were preparing a much better/bigger space. So, I guess this is also a temporary problem. Another aspect can also be an issue for some people (not for us though). Most of the rooms are accessed through tiny spiral stairs and the hotel has something like 5 or 6 floors.

Review 60:The price is fair enough. The decoration and the ambient in general are very funny and happy :).

Review 61:Not that clean and absolutely no value for the money they ask for. We stayed 1 night and then changed to a much better Pousada at lower cost

Review 62:I liked nothing

Review 63:Unprofessional team at reception. Exaggerated price increase during world cup.

Review 64:Great breakfast staff, very friendly!

Review 65:l'originalità della struttura

Review 66:Everything needs a little renovation. Not really clean

Review 67:Good location, everything in reach; good breakfast!

Review 68:Stairs are too narrow.

Review 69:Breakfast was very good with variety of local foods and fruits. Paintings and other interior decorations were typical.

Review 70:everything was fine

Review 71:breakfast

Review 72:mmm... quite nothing...

Review 73:The garden and the view in the room

Review 74:Not very smiley service

Review 75:Very colourful and decorated with a personal touch, good breakfast

Review 76:Construction work in the garden and lower level.

Review 77:Great view of city, good rooms, near central location and goodcafe do manha

Review 78:it's quiet, well situated, design. The breakfast is great.
