Reviews for Sagando Hostel

Review 1:Breakfast was bread and a toaster. :( Got eaten alive by mosquitoes in bed. Shower was grimy and stained. Constantly the water was turned off (ie. not fun when you've gone to the toilet and there's no water from the tap to wash your hands!) Staff ignored us frequently. Service/food was SLOW! (I know it's Africa, but this is a whole new level.)

Review 2:A short walk from the beach.

Review 3:- far from the beach - no water at all in the first 2 days - other guests were in the same situation, with the promise it will be solved in 10 minutes - included breakfast was made out only of fresh fruits, a glass of fruit juice, tea/coffee, toasted bread and a chemical full jam. Every morning. - initially we've been relocated to a different hostel, at a lower quality but the same prices. After several discussions we've been told they need to solve some technical issues in our room and they gave us a different room for the first night, on the property - also poor quality. The next day they gave the promised room to other guests.

Review 4:The food (some fish curry) was good, we ate there only once (right when we've arrived). We're not sure it was just to create a good impression or that 's how it was usually made.

Review 5:The staff will go out of their way to help you with what you need! We even went together to a market in Stone Town to buy food, so we could cook it in our own kitchen, fully equipped for us by the staff. Very friendly, chilled and relaxing atmosphere with a stunning and secluded beach nearby.

Review 6:It was in low season, but they only had very few things on their menu, and there was basically only one other place to eat which was a way expensive hotel near by. they told me at least two nights ' oh, that will be available tomorrow' and both times it wasnt. this place is not on the beach, but 5 mins walk from it. The room was not cleaned during my 4 day stay, and there was even a band-aid on the wall. The wifi was poor, even with so few people around, and there is NO wifi in the rooms as some of the adverts lead you to believe. I was told that room I was in was very new, but it sure did not look that way with fading paint, rusted bathtub, etc.

Review 7:the staff are very eager to please and there is a lady willing to do laundry there. When the first room they put me was not clean, they did move me no questions asked to a whole new room.

Review 8:Very cosy place, quiet and relaxing garden, helpfull and easy going staff, good local food, we loved to stay there. Unspoiled beach just behind the corner where we were literally alone the whole stay.

Review 9:- Very relaxed atmosphere, very nice staff. - Only a 2 minute walk away from the beautiful beach. - Campfire in the evening. - Really good lunch and dinner.

Review 10:Absolutely nothing

Review 11:Staff was incredibly nice, welcomimg and helpful whatever was required. Very relaxed atmosphere, quiet surroundings, good food. Even though it's called hostel, you get your own little "bungalow" with small seating area outside if you wish to chill, rooms have private bathrooms. If I am visiting Zanzibar in the future, this will be definitely place to stay :)

Review 12:the staff is amazing!!! miss those guys!!! the food is delicious and cheap...though you had to wait a while but it's worth it! location is good, the beach is beautiful and just 1-2min away....relaxed ambiance! definitely will be back to Zanzibar and to this place!!!

Review 13:The food was way too pricey! The taste was OK nut te portions were TINY! IT was a bit of a joke. How hard is it to give a little bit more veggetable and more fries so you don't feel the need to count them...? There were also tiny ants or another weird kind of bug in the bad that bit. No idee where they came from.

Review 14:Very nice place, with a beautiful garden and a lot of privacy. Staf was very friendly! Power and water sometimes stopped, but we got a candle and a bucket with water, so that was nog really a problem. Close to the beach! There is a small restaurant very close with chips and eggs and chicken or fish and beer and sodas.

Review 15:The portions of the food were small and overprized and we had to wait between one and three (!!!) hours each time! Breakfast (the included part) is a bit of a joke in comparison to other hostels in Tanzania/ Zanzibar: toast, horrible jam, margarine, one small fruit juice and very limited pieces of fresh fruit... But well, if you have time to wait another hour you might get some eggs as well for some extra money...

Review 16:You are really far away from everything which was great on one hand because we were almost alone on this wonderful beach but you also really depend on overprized food, activities, etc of the hostel and the surrounding hotels

Review 17:Everything has been just stunning!!They welcome us as part of a big family..we did not miss anything!! Food is really tasty, services are perfectly offered and the beach is just 3 minutes walking. Staff..the best you can meet up!! Very cheap and not comparable! We hardly recommend you to go!!

Review 18:The hygiene in our bathroom was poor. Not enough ventilation and a lot of bugs. It was a generally hot period when we were there, but the first floor bedroom was extreme, probably because it is located in the bay (less wind), and a bit away from the sea. Better fans would have been welcome. Not a very lively area if you are 2 friends looking to meet new people and have some fun (all surrounding places are big and expensive resorts)

Review 19:Food was cheap and good, but portions were sometimes a bit small. They decorated the place really nicely (Rastafari style), and were still improving it every day. Very friendly and honest staff. On the beaches here in Michamvi, you will not get bothered by beach boys trying to sell you something, which in other locations is sometimes frustrating.

Review 20:Fan on my room wasn't working. Asked 3 times to fix it but they didn't pay much attention. I stayed for almost a week days and they didn't cleaned my room or changed my towels.

Review 21:Staff have a good vibe Food is really good Nice and chill music playing all day long Room is big and confortable Good location

Review 22:Little wind

Review 23:Fantastic relaxed. Coolest guys in Zanzibar. Good food. Best fresh juice

Review 24:Food could be better for the price that is charged.
