Reviews for Hotel Elena
Review 1:We requested a non smoking room and while the door had a non smoking sign on it, inside there were 2 ash trays and it smelt of smoke. The smell wasn't overpowering and was quickly forgotten. Could be that guests don't follow the rules and they have learnt it is easier to provide ash trays. There were not enough curtains to cover all of the windows so privacy was an issue plus light in the morning. The carpet was quite dirty in places, particularly in one corner where there was some water damage on the wall.
Review 2:Air con worked really good and the bathroom was clean and modern. The lady at reception didn't speak English but she got one of the girls who worked in the restaurant to translate for us. All the staff were friendly and it was an easy walk into the centre.
Review 3:- the breakfast was very light - the room didn't have a double bed (it had 2 single beds and an extensible couch) - the hotel is located in the city and there was pretty much noise from the street - the city was preparing for a competition regarding the European cultural capital
Review 4:- the room was big and clean - the Wi-Fi worked very good - the staff behaved well - the prices were pretty good - they had very good dessert
Review 5:As the breakfast is a set menu, albeit with a good variety, it may be useful to state this in case other guests have special dietary requirements.
Review 6:Easy to find & reasonable parking lot. Helpful staff & good service. I ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious. I specifically selected this hotel as it was close to the venue of my concert and to the shopping area. I live locally & I would definitely use Elena again.
Review 7:1/ you have to eat your breakfast in a smokey coffee lounge (everyone in Bulgaria smokes ! ) rather than in the much larger number ofnon smoking areas in the hotel such as the nice non-smoking restaurant .2/ This was not the hotel's fault but when I left , the idiot taxi driver who was to take me to a bus station , dumped me at the garage end of bus station instead of the passenger end 100 metres away - luckily I found it but this was not the fault of the hotel , only of the stupid taxi driver they relied on !
Review 8:Good situation , clean large rooms and friendly staff . The staff werevery ready to assist at all times . Prices were reasonable . All in alla good hotel . I recommend it . And the staff could not have triedharder to be helpful . Veliko Tarnovo is a nice , historic place with a" countryside " feel and this is a nice place to stay .
Review 9:The mattress was a bit too soft for my taste. No elevator.
Review 10:Huge room with balcony and nice view. Breakfast was with a fixed menu but rich enough and also included fruits. The hotel is relatively close to the city center but for Tsarevets you need about 30 min on foot. Taxis are cheap though (approx. 3-4 leva to get to the castle). The staff was very nice and gave us plenty of instructions on how to get there.
Review 11:- no fridge in room, no kettle - room was not ready (even though it said it would be ready at 2pm and we arrived at 8pm. We had to stand and wait in the room while the staff made the beds) - the sliding shower door was missing (assuming broken and not replaced, so when showering water goes everywhere) - faucet to shower switch was broken - very thin walls, woke up anytime someone walked down the stairs - staff did not speak English! Used gestures, a mix of bad Russian and random Bulgarian words to communicate. - Balcony separator between rooms is basically non existent, if door is left open anybody from next door can get into your room. - very thin, lumpy pillows - no mattress cover! - no trash can in room, no slippers - restaurant downstairs: food is ok but the staff do not speak a word of English and are terrible, the girls spent more time checking their hair in the mirror than paying attention to the people trying to order. - tables in the cafe where we had breakfast were covered in a thick layer of dust - public parking outside the Elena pizzeria - when we went inside the pizzeria and asked where the entrance to the hotel was, the staff seemed very confused and just pointed up, so we dragged all of our bags through the pizzeria. (The actual entrance is from the right side of the building, up the stairs) If traveling through Veliko Tarnovo, stay at the Agusta Hotel! It was wonderful when we stayed there last time, but unfortunately it was full this time.
Review 12:- good wifi, no password - pizzeria and cafe downstairs (10% discount) - breakfast was good - nice to have fruit served along with the usual cheese, ham, tomatoes and cucumbers, bread combo. Coffee was good (though it took 20 minutes for the girl to bring it)

Review 23:Excellent rooms - large and comfortable; good location - near the center and far enough of the noise and crowds; good restaurant downfloor (discount for hotel clients); polite staff
