Reviews for Hotel Quartier Latin

Review 1:not the hotel's fault but there was noise on two night; but once i told staff i think they solved the problem...and of course the stairs...but again not hotel's fault. it was hard to climb then as i had walked for hours each day!

Review 2:the man at the breakfast area is very nice and friendly, the cleaning lady is also very nice, front desk staff were very nice and helpful. they always gave us the kettle for our tea and very helpful about directions to the Old port and Bus Station and they called our taxi when we left.

Review 3:It's written no alcohol on the room, but we did drink beers

Review 4:The location is excellent ! Nice staff and the room was clean ! We were a group of friends and it was perfect !

Review 5:The mattress was very hard , and not enough power points in the room .

Review 6:The staff were very nice and friendly . But a kettle in the room is a must theses days , tea and coffee making facilities . However I was given a kettle but it should be standard .Noise was a problem at the weekend as there is a club next door .

Review 7:The single room is really small. Housekeeping does not clean propaply. The walls are thin and noise can easily come through. The breakfast was a joke.

Review 8:Location is amazing, staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 9:Where to start? Extremely cold in the room - probably due to the hole in the window pane. Carpet and bed covers looked unclean. We were there two days and room keeping did not make up the beds - simply added more towels. Despite complaints about the heating to the front desk (central heating) nothing changed, although they did give us two extra blankets. No clock in the room, no kleenex and toilet paper worthy of a public toilet in the middle of the city. Added to it all, bed bugs left their huge mark on my husband. And all this for $140 a night :( Definitely not going anywhere near this place again.

Review 10:Not much

Review 11:I stayed 3 nights, on second night I got bitten by something horribly. They changed my room to one in basement which was freezing cold. They refused to give my money back although they could see the picture of the insect I took and my injury.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Front desk folks were very unhelpful to my elderly parents who stayed here. Public places (lobby, stairwells, hallways) were dingy and very run down.

Review 14:Great location close to Station Sherbrook, Station Berri/UQAM, many restaurants. Decent sized room, real queen bed (not Euro-queens which are double), clean enough for my parents. It was as advertised and reviewed by others.

Review 15:I couln't have an access to the internet in my room, and so I had to go down to the lobby...

Review 16:Most staffs are pretty friendly and the location of the hotel is very convenient.

Review 17:There could have been 'better' pillows as the ones in the room were kinda flat.

Review 18:Everything was good. Location, Wi-Fi, staff, price, etc. No complaints here at all.

Review 19:The old-fashioned interior. The room was a little dusty because of the carpet.

Review 20:The central location: in between a lot of bars and restaurants, and not that far from the metro.

Review 21:The breakfast is far too simply and the dining-room is too small. No elevator so there will be a problem if you have lots of luggages. The light in the room is too dim and the desk lamp is not workable.

Review 22:It is very convenient place that the airport shuttle bus 747 is only 3 minutes away by walk and Central bus station,Metro Station and lots of restaurants in different styles are located nearby too which is also only 5 minutes by walk. You can go to Chinatown,Old Montreal and old port within 20-30 minutes by walk or other places by metro.Wi-Fi is pretty fast. It is clean too. Very fast check-in service.

Review 23:None

Review 24:The person who welcomed me listened to my requests n fulfilled them. This hotel is the first one I experienced on this trip that's generous with the towels made my bed without a special request!

Review 25:The place was a dump! I had to stay 2 days, but booked a real hotel that night.

Review 26:Nothing, I was in the basement in a dorm style room with bars on the window!

Review 27:Nothing. If you're looking for a hotel with bells and whistles, not for you. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay in the best location, its perfect.

Review 28:The best location possible. Cost is unbeatable.

Review 29:It was to cold in the room due air induction.....Unfortualy not adjustable in the room itself.

Review 30:It's fair for this price.....it's convinient, cheap and only for sleeping purposes.

Review 31:Breakfast was a joke. 2 day old Croissants and Muffins. No coffee. Loud strip joint next door. Lots of street noise.

Review 32:Staff were pretty helpful except for the Old guy/ manager who didn't smile much and I guess was responsible for the terribly stale Breakfast.

Review 33:AC was variable, sometimes too hot, other times too cold. No elevator and we on 4th floor.

Review 34:Location and comfortable beds, pleasant staff. Value for the money.

Review 35:The cleanliness is terrible. They said it was clean but you could see so much dirt everywhere.

Review 36:The customer service was good. the young gentleman at the counter was very kind

Review 37:There was nothing I didn't like. But I wasn't given or notified of my breakfast.

Review 38:The comfort and value. The locations is very central and is in the thick of St Denis. The hotel itself is clean and tidy. I look forward to staying here again!!

Review 39:The nearest Metro station to this hotel is Berri-UQAM. This station has a history of both major and petty crime within the station. The station is heavily patrolled now, but the criminals have moved to the access tunnels and nearby streets. It is impossible to enter or leave the station without running a gamut of very aggressive beggars, many of whom are drug and violent criminals. It is a definite no-go area. Any time I stopped walking, I was challenged by an addict defending his stash. The province of Quebec and City of Montreal seem to be unable or unwilling to take action to control this situation. Tourists are a definite target. If you stay at this hotel I would recommend not walking to the Berri-UQAM station or in the surrounding areas. I would head directly for Sherbrooke Street. Allowing this situation to continue is more what I would expect in a poor third world country rather than Canada.

Review 40:The hotel staff were friendly. The facilities are more than adequate.

Review 41:Grumpy french language staff. Seemed to not understand English when being in Canada was very surprising to me. Room had very noisy and loud air conditioning fan that went on for six minutes every twenty minutes. Sleep near impossible once initial tiredness to sleep done and woken by fan. Felt like English speaking foreigner in a country where queen of England is head of state. It was all too french for my liking all round there. Breakfast was poor, two lightly warmed up croissants in small crowded room with bad seating choice.

Review 42:To finally get there. On a road with lots of choices of places to eat.

Review 43:The street is packed with restaurants, pubs, peeping clubs: beyond thelively atmosphere, there only is the super loud all-night long noise, the nauseating smells, the disquieting drunk/junkie peopleswandering during the night or laying on the sidewalk in the morning. Ourrooms were located in the basement, with small windows looking directlyat the sidewalk, at the street dirt, and without iron gratings: reallyeerie and uncomfortable. Very bad smell coming from the centraliseda/C. Very worn out rugs, curtains. Stained bed covers and bedstructures. Filthy surfaces on the room fridge. Hair in the bathroomfloor. Breakfast takes place in the basement, a tiny room with nowindows and only 1 table and 10 chairs: impossible. Beware: the 2parking spaces belonging to the hotel (with regular street sign) do notprevent you from getting a fine if you park your car for 10 minuteswhile loading your luggage in the moring hours.

Review 44:The check in and breakfast staff was very kind, welcoming and helpful. The price is very low considering the super-expansive trend of Montreal, but there are reasons for that: even though the hotel is much betterthan it appears from the outside (which is discomforting), it is indesperate need of some hard work.

Review 45:None.

Review 46:Everything was good. Great location and great staff. Good wi-fi connection, cold air conditioning, etc. I asked them to watch my bag because my bus was coming later and they were happy to do so. Room was also very clean too!

Review 47:The air conditioning was very bad, rooms were very hot, WiFi did not work 75% of the time.

Review 48:Good location for young people, lots of bars and restaurants and people around at night.

Review 49:Small room, low budget, only croissants and muffins available for breakfast. Its beside a strip joint

Review 50:Basic room, only a 2 star hotel, room is so small can barely get anything in it

Review 51:The location was good, the hotel is located near of a lot of restaurants but at night there is a lot of noise inside our room and it is impossible to sleep. The hotel is very old, the bed is not good, the air conditioner is very bad.

Review 52:There is only one good thing that is the location of the hotel.

Review 53:Room was freezing, after asking the front desk to lower the (AC), can't be controlled in the room, they told us they would and advised us to open the windows. It never got warmer and so we had to block the AC vents for the duration of our stay. We saw that the previous tenant did as well. I also had to blow dry myself to warm up. Carpet was smelly and either moldy or dusty, I sneezed for the duration of the stay.

Review 54:Hearty breakfast: real Orange juice, huge muffins, good coffee and so so crossaints. Bathroom was a decent size with blowdryer and plenty of drawer space for clothing.

Review 55:Parking was hard to find but understandable because of area of hotel. We never got the breakfast, should've been advise of breakfast or served.

Review 56:Everything was quite nice. Nothing really stood out but we enjoyed our stay.

Review 57:Washroom in room was not clean at check in, missing toilet paper. Room was too hot, central A/C not effective. Breakfast bad, do not have breakfast there, breakfast is served in a small room and there is a very limited selection on food.

Review 58:Location is excellent, Staff tried to solve our issues on the spot and it was very accommodating.

Review 59:Ended up having an unexplained rash, highly suspect bed bugs. The bites were all close together and on arms face and neck which is indicative of bed bugs, but we didn't find any actual bugs so unconfirmed.

Review 60:the location was great, really near metro station.

Review 61:Next to a strip club and loud music every night from bar below. Breakfast was a choice of a croissant or a muffin heated in a microwave. No fridge or microwaves in rooms.

Review 62:Great location; right on Rue St-Denis and close to the bus station and metro.

Review 63:Parking was odd, as they use the library around the corner. Which was a good spot, but it was a little difficult when we first arrived, so we took a parking lot nearby, then moved it the next day. The room smelled of smoke, but was a non-smoker room.

Review 64:location is perfect. Right in the heart of the Latin Quarter night clubs. Big room, with big bathroom.

Review 65:Brekafast is so useless..it's a just a croissant and muffin with juice/coffee. No eggs, fruit, toast etc. Service is also very bad...the staff is not helpful at all.

Review 66:They didn't have a elevator or parking space so you have to park at a nearby parking garage and pay for it, I paid $42 dollars for 3 days and the spot reserved for hotel costumers only(load and unload) was taken by a car that stayed there for over 2 hours, not convenient when you have luggage and kids and the car parked in a public parking garage. Breakfast was coffee or juice + muffin or croissant.

Review 67:Great location close to many restaurants and the metro!

Review 68:Airconditioning was centralised, and could not be adjusted or switched off in the room. It was mostly too cold and too noisy, which spoilt everything else that was good.

Review 69:All facilities were good

Review 70:Poor network of free wifi. No air-con during the night. Just central air-con. Noisy pub right downstair of the hotel (open until 3am during weekend).

Review 71:One staff is nice. Basic facilities are available. Free breakfast.

Review 72:- Very strong cigarette smell in the room, every day of our stay, even after we complained;- When we talked to the front desk to be moved to another room, they told us all the rooms were non-smoking, and that it could only be our impression; - In the next day, in the morning, someone was smoking in the corridor in front of our room!!! - The only reason we did not rate the staff lower was because of the friendliness of the couple who is responsible for the breakfast - very nice people! - In addition: the fridge was so dirty we had to clean it up ourselves; the bedsheets of both beds were torn in some places; the pillow covers still smelled like perfum, which made us conclude they were not replaced at the time of check in.

Review 73:- Good location, right in the middle of Quartier Latin (bars, pubs, restaurants, etc.)

Review 74:Our room was noisy until 3am because it was the eve of Canada day. We had a five hour drive to get to the hotel then our night was not completely restful due to the proximity to clubs and night life. The room was also warm and I would have preferred if it had a wooden or some kind of hard surface floor in the bedroom.

Review 75:I loved being able to walk around the city. We borrowed a bixi bike to pedal to wonderful outlying attractions. The people were charming, helpful and genuinely interested in us having a good time in their beautiful city;. even though I can understand and speak only a few French phrases.

Review 76:Breakfast was terrible, better to spend a few extra $$$ and go to one of the many street restaurants.

Review 77:Amazing location, lots of food, cl ose to the subway, great nightlife.

Review 78:Unfortunately, continental breakfast had a bad experience with person serving....got very upset with me for attempting to use tongs to serve myself muffin...very angry...made me rethink how Americans are viewed in Montreal..overall not very well....hotel manager and front desk people very nice...

Review 79:Nice location, easy access to Metro, restaurants...small room but comfortable - accommodating at front desk..needed a small bed for child, had that right away....clean room and bathroom...close to parking garage...

Review 80:Basic hotel.Carpet in the room quite old, a bit noisy, but it is in centre town so understandable. I guess the price is right for what you get.

Review 81:Location, close to everything.

Review 82:- Very unpleasant and unhelpful clerks. For any information, the reply would be "do it yourself, you've got internet in your room". - more than basic breakfast : transparent coffee and supermarket croissants or muffins. Everything in a underground small room with no window. - crazy A/C system blowing onto you 20 knots cold wind whatever is the temperature outside. When asking the employees to try to adjust this, the answer was "we can't do anything, open the window" (but when its 60°F at night, it does not help ..). After getting sick following a full nigth with cold air blown onto the face, I asked again to try decrease the A/C. Answer was "if you do not like it, you can go away, we refund you the night you did not spend"; which I ultimately did when I figured out that any discussion was impossible. At the time of the check-out, the clerk tried to apply some supposed "penalties" on the refund, they would refund only 50% of the amount paid. I asked to speak to the manager, had to wait for another 15 minutes that they call them, and got refunded. In summary : very bad experience.

Review 83:The location is nice, just in the middle (maybe too ?) of the popular quartier latin.

Review 84:- Old and dirty building - Small and dirty rooms - Dirty bathroom - Very very poor breakfast (only croissants, muffins, jam, coffee and orange juice) - Outside the temperature was 14 Celsius degrees and they had the air condition in full operation and in the room was too cold during day and night and you couldn't do anything, becuase it was centrally controlled.

Review 85:- Great location in the heart of Quartier Latin (there are meny restaurants, bars, food markets, close to metro station and cental bus station)

Review 86:Didn't feel the cleanest place I've ever stayed, room smelt strange and it was a bit run down. Could do with a lick of paint!

Review 87:Relatively cheap hotel in a fantastic location! Great showers!

Review 88:* The centralized air conditioning system can't be turned off (so it could be too hot or cold in the room depending on someone's else opinion), and it's loud (turns on from time to time). Seems to be a common problem in cheap hotels in Canada. * Quartier Latin is a place with lots of pubs, cafes, bars, and so on. Food prices in the neighborhood are very high. No grocery shops nearby. * A bar is adjacent to the hotel. On some nights (especially on Friday and Saturday, and maybe Sunday) they play extremely loud music till the deep night (3 a.m. or so). Impossible to sleep in adjacent rooms on the 1st floor at that time. I got exactly in this mess, so my first night after arrival was ruined. They gave me another room next day, and it was pretty quiet.

Review 89:* Walking distance from the downtown; * Really working WiFi; * Quiet... mostly (see drawbacks); * Decent furniture in the room (including a fridge); * Really working WiFi; * Helpful and friendly staff; * Breakfast... well, very decent (juice, tea/coffee, a muffin and a croissant) comparing to other places where I stayed.

Review 90:Room is tight and pillows could have been comfier. It's an old building so expect old building problems. Walk up only..not a problem, but fyi!

Review 91:The hotel is right downtown in the middle of all the bars & restaurants...didn't need to drive anywhere! Also walking distance to the metro. Nice to have breakfast at the hotel..croissants, muffins, coffee, juice...but also great breakfast places a few doors down.

Review 92:No elevator, has to use steps 54 of them counting from street level ,not so friendly stuff no air conditioning for each room ,temperature to high, noise all night ,no tissues in room , only few channels on TV, not at all what showed on internet side.

Review 93:at night theres too many people sitting out at the entrance and it doesnt look good

Review 94:Bar and restaurants close by, room was clean, and bed was really comfortable for the price you pay

Review 95:If the hotel can keep some umbrellas or raincoats to lend to its guests on rainy days, it will be a much cooler place!

Review 96:It's among the best of budget hotels.

Review 97:Room marked as no smoking smelled of cigarettes, the whole area is very noisy on the weekend + street noise, bus station noise. The bed was pretty short and I'm of very average height.

Review 98:I liked the location, room and and the bathroom was pretty clean, one could open the window, basic cable TV allowed me to watch Stanley Cup games.

Review 99:The housekeeper relocate the location of the fan and put it directly on top of my suitcase........... More power sockets in the room is also better.

Review 100:Staff is nice and has a sense of humor. The hotel is located in a prime location in Montreal in which a street full of pubs and restaurants are just few steps away from the hotel. Beds are comfortable and large.

Review 101:The free wifi that barely works is a big disappointment to me, hopefully they will fix it soon.

Review 102:This place is what you looking for if you like for being surrounded with bars every where, there is a Starbuck right the cross of the road which is hardly takes you 2 mnts by walk to get there, and it takes you only around 10 mnts by walk to get to the village.

Review 103:Even though it was supposedly non-smoking, room smelled like cigarette. Hotel is right next to a strip club, so loud music kept me from sleeping until 3AM.

Review 104:Great location. Bed was clean.

Review 105:The bed was a bit hard, the breakfast wasn't readily available.

Review 106:This was a great hotel for the cost. 64 dollars a night for a room that can sleep four in the heart of downtown is fantastic! This isn't the shangri-la, but if you are just looking for somewhere to hang your hat for a couple of days, then it's highly recommended. Also, great indoor parking lot nearby.

Review 107:Obviously this wouldn't be for the luxury traveler, but if your in town for the weekend and literally want to use the room as a resting zone, then this would be an ideal pick.

Review 108:Awesome location, 5 minute walk from Berri metro. Walking distance to all the neighborhoods. Clean and comfortable, ridiculously affordable.

Review 109:I rented for two days and paid for it. On the first day afternoon, I told the guy in the counter that I wouldn't stay the second day. But he refused to return my money for the second day.

Review 110:Room was but cold.

Review 111:We didn't get the "free breakfast" that they advertised... Location: Just so you know.. its besides a Gentlemen's club and on top of a Bar... Very loud and not comfortable at all...

Review 112:The bathroom was too small. No counter space to get ready. The TV location was not in the best spot on the wall.

Review 113:Liked the style of hotel but it's a little outdated.

Review 114:extremely noisy at night, people screeming, shutting doors, all night long. room too hot, they couldn't move me in another room, and I had to keep the window open with -20 outside....just to realize how hot was inside. heather was also extremely noisy

Review 115:People next door kept us awake both nights. The second night I had to phone at 3:30am to alert the front desk. They quieted some but not enough as the walls are thin I guess. There was a strong smell in the room of either cleanser or air freshener.

Review 116:The staff were really friendly. Rooms were clean

Review 117:the halls smell of cigarettes, but thankfully it doesn't permeate into the non-smoking rooms

Review 118:good value for the price, great location, friendly staff, free wifi.

Review 119:Dirty very dirty fund blood in the bathroom when the cleaner DIno a very old man and very aggressive refuse to clean my bathroom and call the reception they ask me to leave if I'm not happy I a ready pay 5night cash then I say I will call the Montreal hygiene department and to refund my room then they clean my room but I both product to clean as they where blood I did not take any chance very bad hotel the staff specially The cleaner Dino

Review 120:It wasn't the nicest place, but for the price, who cares? Did not enjoy the thumping music from the strip joint next door until 2am tho...

Review 121:The location couldn't have been better! Lots of neat bars nearby, all within walking distance!

Review 122:The room was a bit cool...but once we asked to have heat increased it was done. Noise level a bit loud at times...but is was the weekend.

Review 123:The location was excellent for our purpose.

Review 124:you really get what you pay for with this discount price, just a room with 2 beds, no elevator, nothing fancy like a regular hotel, even iron you need to 'borrow' from the counter.

Review 125:1.) location 2.) Price 3.) relatively clean

Review 126:I don't like the fact that there's no elevators and got bitten by bed bugs which definitely ruined my way back home.

Review 127:Great location right on the strip where all the clubs, lounges and restaurants are. Very close to shopping areas and attractions.

Review 128:My card was charged without my permission before my arrival. The breakfast was limited. There was no elevator

Review 129:no deposit was paid. I was helped with my luggages

Review 130:Booked for two nights. Woke at 430 AM with bedbugs biting us in the bed. We were bit over 20 times. Switched rooms and requested refund the next morning. Owner was very rude and refused a refund for both nights. Told us to leave and only refunded one night. He essentially kicked us out. No apology. Nothing. Disgusting, horrible people and service. We even had pictures of the notes and a bedbug in a container that we presented to the staff. STAY AWAY!

Review 131:Nothing. Worst accommodation experience of my life.

Review 132:Considering the price as low, you can bear with any inconvenience :) But please be prepared that the room is very small, for example, laying on the bed, you can close the bathroom door :) Also the soundproofing may have been better - you will definitely hear your neighbors!

Review 133:Excellent location, plenty of the restaurants around, very close to city center. And low prices :) Great if you have just a couple of nights to stay in Montreal.

Review 134:The breakfast consisted of only one muffin (although it was big). The payment for the room was charged from the credit card, although booking.com says you pay in cash upon arrival Завтрак состоит из одного кекса и сока (кекс большой). Оплату заранее сняли с карточки, хотя на букинге было написано "оплата по прибытии".

Review 135:Comfortale room, good location (5-10 minutes walk from Berri metro station). Удобный номер, хорошее расположение (5-10 минут пешком от метро Берри)

Review 136:I liked everything.

Review 137:It was clean and a great value, nothing fancy, and very small but the bed was comfortable (though firm) and we had a nice quiet room in the back for our honeymoon.

Review 138:There is a "Gentlemen's " club next door, but don't let it put you off. The accomodation was quiet and the bed was pretty comfortable. Perfect for just a brief weekend escape, a simple night's rest and to have the convenience of everything near by.

Review 139:We got there late in the evening, the rooms smelled of cigarettes, we found hair strands and make up smudges on our pillowcases, asked for another room, was still dirty. Whole place is dusty and grubby. The sheets stink, seemed like they've never been washed. We have to sleep with our coats because the blankets are just so dirty. Had to leave at 6am the next day. Worst experience ever.

Review 140:Location

Review 141:Marijuana smoke filled the corridors at one point; one could smell cigarette smoke other times. Staff was fine, but aside from the nice older gentleman who served breakfast, not really warm or welcoming. More the "yeah, ok - sign this and pay" experience.

Review 142:Location in the Quartier Latin on the Rue St. Denis; close to the bus terminal and Metro Berri too. Good breakfast. Despite being in the center of a lively part of town, my room was quiet even on a Saturday night.

Review 143:Short walk to the metro, restaurants, cafés and attractions nearby. Washrooms modern and clean. A no-frills hotel perfectly suited for a comfortable short stay in downtown Montreal on a budget. Small rooms explain the price. Sprinkler system and good emergency exits. We will return!
