Reviews for Hotel Fontana Passugg

Review 1:A little bit out of town and local taxi drivers just make up the price to get to hotel. 3 trips costing 20, 15 then 25 francs! Be warned and get a price first as they don't use meters.

Review 2:What a surprise this little hotel nestled high on a hill above the town was. Oozing with charm, spectacular view from our room, clean and comfortable. A wonderfull memory for our family.

Review 3:Reception not staffed on arrival key left on counter. Hard to find from directions given had to stop at a garage and ask for directions

Review 4:Lovely views wonderful breakfast

Review 5:Little bit difficult to find, make sure you are prepared. Car gps took us elsewhere, but google maps got us there. We seemed to come in between seasons so not many guests and I think only 2 staff who were nice enough and very efficient. The bridge to get in was quite scary with our large sedan.

Review 6:Decent sized room, beautiful location and a pretty decent breakfast. The donkey.

Review 7:Ad is misleading. No staff on site at 6:30 pm when we arrived no coffee, no TV, no phone. More of a guest house than a hotel. Grounds not maintained. Very steep walk to entrance. Not suitable for seniors. Very dark

Review 8:Clean and a good bed. Good breakfast

Review 9:Road to property steep and narrow and unlit for a walk to dinner and back. A bit more information from non existing staff on arrival to inform us of where we were and the best way to get to Restaurant down the steep narrow drive would have been nice. We are visitors to the area and country found it difficult to work out where we were. It would be good for theses Hotel properties to inform guest when they book that no staff are there and they are on their own.

Review 10:Lovely setting away from city, loved the country atmosphere.

Review 11:There wasn't a wide variety of food for breakfast.

Review 12:The room was very creatively put, it would be great for a family of four. The environment was very comfortable and it was very clean.

Review 13:A bit far from the city , so you don't get to go out whenever you like.

Review 14:I liked Everything about this place. On top of the hill. Very quiet. Guy over there is very helpful to us. By the time we were there, keys were there on the desk and room was excellent. Call the hotel number, they can arrange for taxi rosemalia and they will charge 15 fr but if you take taxi from station to this hotel they will charge you 25 fr. On the day of check out Guy over there helped us a lot, he was really kind enough to arrange a taxi and walk with us down to hill to show the route and ensure we don't miss the train. Room was excellent and we have our room on the second floor. Nice view. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who is in favor of quiet and peaceful environment.

Review 15:No staff on arrival, and a uniquely difficult approach could be improved for a better experience, with some more, and clear, signs.

Review 16:Beautiful surroundings

Review 17:The breakfast was delectable and the service was wonderful. We stayed at the Hotel Fontana Passugg with our four children aged 14 to 7, who loved the loft beds. The hotel was extremely clean and comfortable with reliable wifi. We would like to come again, stay longer, and take advantage of the hikes that are around Passugg.

Review 18:No receptionist no food in the evening in the surrounding villages and little help from the Hotel We had to get at take out from Chur other guests had to manage with a packet of Crisps and the owner did not seem to care

Review 19:Very nice rooms obviously recently renovated

Review 20:great location, which was easy to get to. we had 8 people in 2 rooms and it was very comfortable. well appointed rooms, great staff and a good breakfast.

Review 21:There is a very narrow windy road up a hill to get to the hotel parking area. The owner was very bad about not plowing or salting it early in the morning so I was stuck in the hotel until later in the day twice in a 5 day stay! Either don't bring your car or park it down the hill (250 meter walk) so you can get out! And wear boots with good tread in the winter as the walkway was often icy and treacherous!

Review 22:This place is probably lovely in the spring/summer/fall when no concern of snow or ice- nice view of nearby mountains when it is not foggy. Staff was nice. Price was good for the property. Wifi signal was strong.

Review 23:We had pillows were made from feathers, and we requested a feather-free room due to an allergy. The road up to the hotel was very narrow and difficult to drive up. Wifi did not exist in our room and barely worked outside in the common areas.

Review 24:The price was quite cheap compared to other hotels in the ski area. Room has a nice view looking toward the mountains. Breakfast was basic but was good. There was freshly baked bread and nice cheese.

Review 25:Far away from Chur. The heat didn't work for whole night. But it locates in the mountain with a stream flow. It is very quiet. And we can see many stars in the sky.

Review 26:Almost impossible to find. Had to drive up into what looked like a back drive way to a private house and then along a path so narrow that a car could hardly fit. No living presence upon arrival, just a key and a note.

Review 27:Beautiful surroundings and clean rooms. Good breakfast.

Review 28:- it was cold and heating did not work, it seems - location is not car friendly!!! First it is away from the main road into the forest, so navi likely are unaware of the road - in order to get there u need to pass a very narrow "bridge". It is not even a proper bridge! Gaps on each side are something like 10cm. So for something like Toyota Avensis it is challenging. It is extremely easy to scratch your car! - this croscountry road is one lane up the serpantine, so be prepared to drive back if someone is going down - lights on the road are on at about 21.15, yet it is dark much earlier! One evening we were walking back to hotel from restaurant in a complete darkness! - parking is some tens meters below the hotel and it is not indicated that it belongs to the hotel. Thus, i first drove up right to the entrance door and then had to turn around on a small square and go down to park the car. - the are no shops to buy food around. So you are forced to eat in swiss-expensive restaurants

Review 29:- breakfast - view to mountains - good WiFi - nice thick blankets

Review 30:A bit difficult to get hot water to drink after staff finish work and there is no kettle anywhere.

Review 31:Great view and fresh air, helpful staff and really comfortable to sleep.

Review 32:No staff at the hotel. non functioning Wifi. The road leading to the hotel wasn't the easiest to drive on, very steep!

Review 33:Very nice rooms with fantastic view. Nice with animals (donkeys/hens and roosters). Very calm and peacful.

Review 34:The accomodstion is located out of town, we were using trains & buses as transport do the distance was an issue. The accomodation is up several steep hills and with bags and kids this was a great physical challenge. The site has a deal with the taxi company that we utilized in the morning to meet our train, had we been advised of this initially when we made our booking we would have used this in the first instance and I am sure would have made for a more pleasant experience.

Review 35:The rural setting does have a charm, my kids loved the donkeys. Staff were pleasant & accomodation was very clean

Review 36:The access road is difficult for a large car due to a very narrow bridge Nobody there on arrival, no intercom, must use your mobile to call ' reception'

Review 37:Beautiful setting, clean, quiet

Review 38:Because it's next to a farm, there are lots of flies. Be warned of the very narrow bridge -- it must be crossed to get to the hotel.

Review 39:It was a nice place to stay. Big room and great price - especially for Switzerland. A little unusual (for me) that no staff was there after 7 p.m. when I arrived.

Review 40:It was a little too remote for us....

Review 41:Difficulty finding it. Limited placed to eat.

Review 42:Peaceful. Surprisingly nice breakfast.

Review 43:No road to get to hotel, had to ride motorbike up walking track, no one at reception, breakfast average, nothing nearby

Review 44:Comfortable

Review 45:Location a little tricky with very narrow bridge and steep climb.

Review 46:Staff, Location, Clean, for young and lively. Rooms basic but still good.

Review 47:The road to the hotel The lack of staff The room allocated had not been cleaned

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:position of hotel, friendly staff, great breakfast!

Review 50:Nice quioet area.

Review 51:Room not made up for the duration of the stay. Wifi reach limited

Review 52:Location is truly in the middle of the Alps

Review 53:The bed, two singles thar seperated as you slept

Review 54:Lovely breakfasts Friendly staff

Review 55:They asked for more than booking.com issued. That was very bad.

Review 56:I got there after check out time , they left key and the form on the reception.

Review 57:Heating system was not yet running in October

Review 58:Clean, location, breakfast, spacious room

Review 59:It was difficult to find

Review 60:The room was a decent size with modern amenities. Clean and comfortable.

Review 61:Wi-fi is not connected on the 3 floor

Review 62:The place is wonderful, the mountain view is excellent.

Review 63:The drive to reach the hotel was a real challenge, parking not so good.

Review 64:Very peaceful and clea. Excellent restaurant down the hill, Muhle.

Review 65:Reaching to the hotel is a pain throgh a narrow bridge and navigation and goolgle map mis-guided me. Otherwise every thing is perfect

Review 66:Mountain atmosphere Family room

Review 67:Poor signage to locate the hotel.

Review 68:Very difficult to find this hotel, but worth the effort. Nice quiet location. Breakfast was OK.

Review 69:steep approach up single track road (if you could call it a road),restaurant at bottom of hill.

Review 70:staff, rooms, views. value for money.

Review 71:Location. Although it is somewhat far from Chur but it has lovely surroundings.

Review 72:No one there on arrival. Lost souls wandering around wondering what was going on. We took our key, left on the reception counter and registered as we left! The restaurant adjoining, was not open and there was no warning of this. No tea or coffee available. Fortunately we had some food with us. Others had to rely on other guests to bring food from the not so close town. Bizarre way to run a hotel!

Review 73:it was clean and the bed comfortable.

Review 74:If I didn't have a car, it wouldn't have worked. Up a steep and long drive to another town. But pretty views once you're up there.

Review 75:I was not greeted by any staff when I arrived, though all the paperwork, keys and instructions were perfect. You just had to figure the place out by yourself! Worked out perfectly, but the recept was surely unusual.

Review 76:Its a taxi ride from train or bus station .. Only one resteraunt & steep hill on return to hotel. No tea coffee facility All drinks & snacks at hotel are via a machine make sure you have loose change to avoid dehydration .. booked a double room but got two wooden beds pushed together with single matresses and one had a stain on the sheet ugh .

Review 77:Very clean overall and gives you a taste of Switzerland .

Review 78:That was just perfect .. Very very very clean No smell excellent internet and service .. Fresh breakfast .. Economical location staff service and very clean

Review 79:Breakfast indoor or outdoor in a nice terrace looking at the wonderful landscape. In the middle of the nature. We arrived late in the evening and we found keys at rhe reception

Review 80:1.- No staff at reception when we arrived in the evening. There was a number to call (didn't pick up for 4 times; on top of that it was an Austrian number and I should no need to spend extra money on this from my non-Austrian number) and the keys were on the reception desk. When we were in our room a family tried to get in because they had a keyring with the same room number and turned out that they were located on a different building. 2.- It says there is a restaurant and we couldn't find anything or somebody to ask for help. No luck. 3.- We paid early in the morning before checking out to save time for a train we needed to catch and on check out they asked us for the money twice even though we said we already gave the money to one of the guys there (the guy was on his PC and didn't even pay any attention). Really bad management.

Review 81:The breakfast and the views from the room

Review 82:It's kinda creepy and far from town. I'd recommend this place only for a group with small to medium car due to the fact that the car has to be able to pass the very narrow bridge

Review 83:Simply everything inside this 120-year-old mansion, it looked classic yet conventional. Facilities are readily prepared for you. There is only one staff, which is the owner but he works perfectly. It was the best breakfast I've had in Switzerland..

Review 84:I picked up a parking fine in the local town. Stephan at reception very helpfully arranged to add the sum to my bill and posted the small fine off for me. Saved me a lot of grief and likely extra fees from from car hire company. No staff when we arrived but key was there at reception , room and ensuite were immaculate. All up this place is great. Thanks Stephan!

Review 85:extremely hard to get there if you use public transport. Car is strongly advisable .If you come to the place at night, it is very dark and no lighting at all around the area.. Not for young kids, older people and for people with disabilities.

Review 86:Beautiful room and very clean. Lovely staff and helpful. Good for families with older children/adults.

Review 87:Access road and bridge indeed not easy but manageable. Cautious however in snow times. Temperature in the little chalet was too high and we found that we could reduce it only in the morning. Next time, we will know !

Review 88:Were a bit worried after reading some reviews but we actually enjoyed our stay there very much. Had a little independent chalet for ourselves, with a fire place running when we got there, beds were comfy and breakfast was good. All of this for the best rate we could find in the area. The restaurant recommended by the hotel is 5 minutes into the village and really good.

Review 89:I can understand why some reviewers had problems with the place, although they were not problems for us. The road was extremely steep and in winter snow/ice might have been impossible, it was completely unlit until we got inside the hotel (we checked in late and there were no staff-our key was left on a desk for us) so it would be dangerous for guests of limited mobility or surefootedness, and there was a very steep ladder to get to the loft in our room where three of the beds were located. I whacked my head a couple of times going up and I am not even that tall. However, it was really fun for our boys of 9 and 13. All in all, for the right guests, this place is great.

Review 90:We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was perfect for the 5 of us, spotlessly clean, a big bathroom with two sinks, WiFi, and just outside the door was a comfortable living-room-like area with couches, games, etc. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful, and the staff friendly. The "creepy" aspect of the hotel referred to in another review was actually a plus for us! :) It had an air of mystery which was attractive. And the location in the mountains was simply lovely.

Review 91:A 'strange' hotel. It felt like a hostel. No one to greet you on arrival. No atmosphere. One morning the breakfast food had run out. We asked for some bread rolls & after some time a bit of food was found. No where close to go and eat. We felt quite isolated.

Review 92:We did not mind steep road or narrow bridge but can see where it would bother some and would be a problem with in the winter. If you can't live without a TV don't go here as there are none.

Review 93:Beautiful area. Spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast. Quiet. Wonderful restaurant at the bottom of the hill open for lunch and dinner. Great reception on Wifi. With breakfast included, very good cost value.

Review 94:Difficult to find, then , even more difficult to reach due to extremely narrow bridge. Parking lot too far from hotel; no staff at desk upon arrival, no tv, Internet not reliable, far from restaurants, room very small

Review 95:This hotel is perfect. We were rather dubious having read the otherreviews but could not have been happier! This hotel was the secondcheapest in chur but you could not tell! The beds were comfy and thebathroom and hotel itself was clean. The reception is unmanned in theafternoon but we were expecting that and it did not matter; the key waslaid out and there was a handy guide about the hotel and details of ataxi company you could use to take into Chur which saves you braving themountainous roads in the dark and great value too. They also recommendeda restaurant which was great! There is mention of the bridge to the hotel - this caused us unnecessary concern! The bridge is absolutely fine if you are expecting it. The hotel is in a perfect setting so you can't moan about the drive there which is harmless for any experienced driver! Thanks for a great stay. We hope to come back.

Review 96:No reception when you arrived and there no drink or eating facilities other than vending machines.. No staff at all until breakfast next morning. Up a steep narrow lane with hairpin bends. In fact it was downright spooky.

Review 97:No staff on arrival - self service. Booking site mentions a narrow bridge - what isn't mentioned is that the unlit road is also extremely steep and has some very tight hairpin bends on it ( a nightmare with a loaded motorcycle). This road has to be negotiated ( about 300m) to take advantage of the sister restaurant - hellish on foot at night.

Review 98:Spacious, clean room.

Review 99:There was a lack of staff. The only time we saw anyone was at breakfastand to checkout. Breakfast was included in the price but one morningthey ran out of most things. There was no room service. It felt like ahostel rather than a hotel. The bridge to get in which so narrow that wehad to make sure we were back before dark but there was no where closeto get a feed.

Review 100:It was clean and quiet.

Review 101:Road to hotel very steep and narrow. Our room had noice from leisure room above. Breakfast poor.

Review 102:Clean room with big space. Quiet surroundings, fresh air.

Review 103:The bridge leading to the hotel was so narrow we were afraid our rental car would get scraped.

Review 104:I loved the sheep outside our windows with their bells ringing. It was clean and comfortable.

Review 105:It' difficult to imagine how to reach the hotel without car, Iassume at the end you have to walk up couple of hundred meters anyway...

Review 106:New inside, very clean and comfortable, has everything you need for acouple of days stay. Great fresh breakfast! Was actually nothing wedidn't like :)

Review 107:Geting to and from the hotel can be tricky as the access road is narrow and steep, so if you don't have a 4x4, having snow chains in winter is a good idea! Also its a "Pension" - meaning that there is no restaurant in the hotel. They do serve breakfast, but there is no evening meal, so you will have to find a local restaurant to eat in the evenings. However its only 7km from Chur, so there is plenty of choice.

Review 108:The hotel was super, comfortable and fit our budget perfectly. We stayed in one of their family rooms (2 adults - 2 kids) for 3 nights, and it worked fine for us. The local ski area Tschiertscehn is fantastic. Not too big but QUIET.. no queues, great pistes, fantastic picturesque village... its how skiing should be!

Review 109:No dislikes in particular. It's a very simple, but elegant andmodern place. It's at a fair price too.

Review 110:Liked the friendly staff. A very nice area we thought, but you need nothave a big car. The bridge is too narrow. We had come in pretty late, and we like how they left the key for us on the front desk.

Review 111:No one generally around. No reply to email about piblic transport so had to take expensive taxi. Once found public transport very easy.

Review 112:Fantastic location rooms and breakfast great

Review 113:Only a little bit far from Chur train station. So you should catch up the last bus before 6 PM. Or else you have to take a taxi or walk there. But if you are lucky enough like us, we may be picked up by some nice private car driver.

Review 114:a wonderful hotel located in the middle of a mountain. It is of very nice view, very yummy food, and very friendly environment.

Review 115:No restaurant for evening meal and the restaurant at the bottom of the hill was closed on the Tuesday we stayed at the Hotel. No other food for ages! Even tried to see if the Swiss Hospitality School at the top the other hill had a restaurant. Don't worry to try as they did not!

Review 116:Quiet location with beautiful scenery.

Review 117:The hotel was difficult to locate as my Tomtom was unable to find the given address. The lack of television and a dirty toilet was only compensated by the low price.

Review 118:Nice almost hostel -like place with an excellent breakfast and staff.

Review 119:The hotel was difficult to find and as we were travelling in a large car it was too risky to drive up the very narrow and steep 300m incline, however we did ask the young man behind the desk if he could drive down for our luggage which in time he did but the next morning there were no staff on so we had to carry our suitcases back down the narrow steep road to our car.

Review 120:The room was very clean. A nice touch to have a chocolate on the bed.. and a very good breakfast was included.

Review 121:Accessibility is a general problem : Quite a remote hotel, the couple ofnearby restaurants were closed when we went there, on a middle of theweek. Parking isn't straight next to the hotel and there's a steep hillto climb to get to the hotel. Not the best for older people or withlimited mobility. A big note as well on how you access the place :there's a dodgy looking bridge, the narrowest I've ever got to cross bycar, and then a steep lane with a curve to go through before arriving atthe carpark.

Review 122:Lovely house on top of a hill, nice and quiet, quite good value for thearea. We got a room with balcony, great views, nicely designed room. Theplace is really quiet, that's pleasant. Wifi strength was the best wegot out of the 10+ hotels we did in switzerland. Lovely comprehensivebreakfast, lovely staff (though not very useful for general info sinceit wasn't staffed past 6pm when we arrived)

Review 123:It should be interesting to have the possibility to have dinner, and, please, I strongly recommend to repair the access road asap, because inrainy conditions it is tricky for a motorbike.

Review 124:Comfortable and quiet facilities. Correct breakfast. Nice and convenientlocation for a motorbike trip.

Review 125:The bridge to hotel was almost washed away, no access for cars, we madeit on motorcycles up a very steep track. On arriving we asked when therestauraunt would be open only to be told that it was not open, the chefwas on holiday for 3 weeks. When we said that the Hotel site said therewas a restaurant the staff member shrugged his shoulders and said wellwe are only a 2 star Hotel,. We then asked if the bar was open, he saidyes, its on the 2nd flloor. The "bar" turned out to be a poorly stockedvending machine. On this hotels website it states that there is a barand the restaurant serving local specialities, possibly only if you arethere when the chef is not on holiday. After 18:00 there are no staff atthe Hotel. We stayed for 3 days, only because we could not get booked inelsewhere, our rooms were not checked or made up and we were forced tohunt round the Hotel ourselves for Toilet Paper. I think Booking.comshould ensure that the description of this Hotel reflects what it isactually like, unlike Arnold Schwarzenegger "we will not be back"

Review 126:View from the common balcony

Review 127:Manager who we only spoke to on the phone was very unhelpful. We werenot told until arriving in the village that the road to the hotel wasclosed as the bridge was out. So no hotel parking as promised, car leftunprotected in village. So we had to drag our cases up hill 500 metres,I am very asthmatic and no help. Keys were left at reception so nowelcome. Rang manager, found out there was no food in the evening, hesaid we could find another hotel!!! . The booking and website did notsay this. No food in village either so had drive to Chur and then walkback up to hotel again. Did not see reception staff in the morningeither as they start at 9am. Not happy at all with the Swisshospitality!

Review 128:Rooms and bathrooms were lovely. Breakfast and staff at breakfast wereexcellent.

Review 129:We arrived to find the road blocked by a large concrete block, which wediscovered was due to the access bridge being weakened by recent storms.How-ever as we were on motorcycles (with the hotel's permission) we wereable pass this block to cross the bridge and ride up to the hotel, whichwas a bit scary in places as the road is very uneven and steep. Therestaurant was closed for 3 weeks due to the chef being on holiday, wewere not advised of this in advance and had to ride to Chur (10-15minutes) for meals, fortunately on Motorcycles, parking in Chur wasquite easy, and restaurant choice is good. The hotel "bar" is in fact avending machine with limited choice. There are no staff on the premisesafter about 6pm, so don't arrive later than this, unless you want todrag your bags up to the hotel from the bottom of the hill. The hotelneeds a bar as it is too remote. I would only recommend this hotel whenthe bridge is repaired (sometime August 2012 we were told) and therestaurant is open. A new (much better) access road has been laid, butleads nowhere until a new bridge is errected (possibly 2013)

Review 130:Generally a nice quiet hotel, freindly staff and at a good price for thearea. Good breakfast

Review 131:The staffing arrangements when we were there were strange....with omlyone girl looking after everything (it appeared). She was a trier, tho.It had an eerie/strange feeling....in that we were unsure whether it wasa conventional hotel or a facility for groups. The access bridge being'out' made access difficult (a long steep road to the hotel remained)

Review 132:Quiet location 'out of town' Rooms large and had good balcony andoutlook

Review 133:The hotel was not accessible by car. It is located on a hill and we hadto climb about 500 meters every time when we wanted to go out, which isa serious problem when you have some health problems. Also, the nearestrestaurant was10 minutes driving from the hotel. The hotel room wascleaned every 3 days according to the receptionist. I would recommend toanyone visiting the hotel to bring their own hoover or broom. Thereceptionist was very rude. The price charged was too high for thequality of services provided.
