Reviews for Yantra Grand Hotel
Review 1:The bathrooms are a bit dark, even with the lights turned on. First night I stayed there I think they had a wedding or something in the restaurant and there was really loud music until 1 am.
Review 2:Great hotel! Rooms are pretty big and the view is great, which is especially good for the light show in the evening. No heaters, but there was a radiator in the room which was a more than suitable replacement and that counts in January. Excellent restaurant! Good breakfast and excellent menu for lunch and dinner. Great location: only a 10 minute walk from the fortress. Good WiFi.
Review 3:Extremely persistent smell of smoke in the room, this being the part that didn't make our stay very comfortable; The sauna should be free of charge in a 4-star hotel, especially when it is not a facility that we can spend hours in, 15-20 min/day would be enough for anyone and in any case the sauna is on the whole day, so no additional cost is involved. One of the receptions is not very willing to help (the young, long haired-lady). When calling the reception and asking her whether there was a sound and light show that evening, she said that she did not have the info, although we found it later (after we had missed the show, very visible from the hotel), that the info was present on all websites promoting the town and also Yantra hotel.
Review 4:position of the hotel, the staff (especially the very kind reception lady with glasses, cleaning ladies, the guys in charge of the parking and the luggage, the staff in the restaurant, the massage therapists), spa facilities, food, nice NYE party, very good brunch on Jan 1st.
Review 5:Had 1 morning when I had no hot water. No big deal went to Pool had shower then a swim.
Review 6:First time in the yantra and would be happy to stay again. Could do with a bar in the reception area as I was travelling alone you felt a bit weird having a drink in the large restaurant. Staff all friendly and helpful.
Review 7:We were given a noisy room next to the staff toilet so we couldn't sleep at all. People constantly going in and out of toilet. If anyone gets room no. 102 turn it down...It's too noisy! This room should only be used for staff not guests.
Review 8:Excellent breakfast.
Review 9:It was too noisy, all the night i was hearing the outside traffic as the windows were facing the street. The bathroom was small and moreover i couldn't take a proper shower as the ceiling above the tub was just very low, so an adult could not stand up ... the breakfast was poor, low quality ... the staff started cleaning while there were people still eating.
Review 10:Location
Review 11:the heating system makes the air extremely dry, unbreathable. we had to turn it off after 1 hour, as our necks were terribly hurting.
Review 12:vey nice location, very kind staff, good prices, cleam
Review 13:The staff at reception were always looking like somebody had died, however they are very nice and understanding people. Spa staff are always amazing. Exceptional service from the Porters who saved me a call to the recovery services for my car on two occasions. They were tipped very well and deserved every bit of it. Room service could do with a upgrade as they couldn't deliver me a bottle of mineral water at 2am and was advised that the tap water from the bathroom was ok to drink, if I wanted to drink the tap water from the bathroom I wouldn't have called room service, would I?
Review 14:It was one of the best hotel i have every stayed in. The pizza was also the best pizza I have tasted in Veliko Tarnovo.
Review 15:Room 205 - bad smell from sewage in the bathroom. Hotel - poor variety of breakfast buffet for a 4 star hotel; - way much chlorine (Cl) in the water of the swimming pool.
Review 16:Room 205 - cleanliness; - reasonable sound proof from outside street noise for a room facing that direction (towards hotel's parking); - comfortable room; - normal sized bathtub; - well supplied minibar ; - two 32" LCD; - good wi-fi signal (free). Hotel - central location; - parking included in room price.
Review 17:Terrible cold in the room. Asked for another room and it proved that the other room was just as cold. They have some fancy heating system which does NOT works properly
Review 18:Nice view, breakfast ok, nice music
Review 19:Apart from the people in the previous comment there seemed to be a strong lack of welcoming smiles.
Review 20:I have to compliment Nikolei (the English speaking restaurant waiter for his help and friendship.... also his colleague, do not know his name but a smaller man in a suit. Also the very interesting young man who parks the cars. He is a psychology student - sorry cannot remember his name. They made the hotel seem homely. Also one of the receptionist had the most welcoming smile..... and the older receptionist also very friendly. I must also say it was great to see Emile and the band. Live entertainment and very good music.
Review 21:The pool is not so big and for the sauna you have to pay.
Review 22:The view is amazing if you get a room on the stronghold side. Staff is very nice with you and the breakfast has a wide range of food.
Review 23:The breakfast was sub standard for a four star hotel, the worst we had in Bulgaria the coffee was disgusting and the food was not much better
Review 24:We booked the VIP suite and it was excellent and value for money
Review 25:The cleanliness of the hotel room is unacceptable. Both of our rooms smelled awful: combination of smoke, dust, must and wet dirty carpet.
Review 26:The location of the hotel is very convenient.
Review 27:The description given on the site has not clarified that the apartment has only one bathroom, that is in the main bedroom. We were two couples and was very uncomfortable as one couple had to get into the second couple's room to take a shower. Use of spa facilities is possible only for an additional fee. the pool is small and uncomfortable. We were not allowed to park near the hotel. The hotel provided parking available to us, but this was far more than 500 meters from the hotel so every time we wanted to use the car we had to walk a long distance, and so back to the hotel.
Review 28:The bed was too hard. I have osteoarthritis of the spine so found it very uncomfortable. It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities in the room. I am often up at 3 and 4 in the morning so a nice cup of tea would have been good.
Review 29:Staff all very happy. Nothing was too much trouble. Room had lovely view. A shame about the weather. We went specifically to see the light show which was a total disappointment. The pool area and spa treatment was fantastic. Our stay was very good.
Review 30:The airconditioning was noisy, the cake cafe was closed, the food in the restaurant was not tasty. The rooms could do with a bit of refurbishment.
Review 31:The location is great. The view from the terrace is spectacular. The breakfast was yummy and various.
Review 32:Rooms smell of cigarettes.
Review 33:Location and view from the room. The spa services are excellent-we went there again for that. Reception staff super friendly and helpful.
Review 34:The breakfast was bad overall. The food was below average. The parking is also a bit of problem. We were very lucky to find the last spot available at 11:00 pm, because I really didn't know where else to put the car.
Review 35:The location was very beautiful. The Internet wifi works very good, the room is clean and is above average size.
Review 36:None
Review 37:The location is very good, very close to the centre, the view is amazing, especially if your room faces Tzarevec. The rooms are spacious and clean, there is everything necessary to feel comfortably. The restaurant is very good too and the staff were polite and helpful.
Review 38:Very minor thing, but the coffee at breakfast was not very good.
Review 39:Staff was very friendly. Location was great and the rooms were very large. Really good breakfast selection of foods.
Review 40:The bedside lights are so dim that it was not possible to read a conventional book. Plan to read only e-books after dark.
Review 41:The town is wonderful, the staff at the hotel is very helpful in multiple languages, the view from our balcony was spectacular.
Review 42:- The cooler didn't work but was fixed after we mentioned the trouble. The air conditioners need to be replaced.
Review 43:- The friendly and helpful staff - The view - The spacious room - The WiFi worked very well - Breakfast - Location close to old town and major sites
Review 44:Pool had too many chemicals, you could poison yourself if stay more then 5 minutes. Staff at restaurant lie about reserved tables and try to give you first a not so good table. If you decide to leave, they give you the "reserved" table.
Review 45:Good location, nice staff, nice breakfast, great view from restaurant terrase.
Review 46:Difficult to get table in restaurant as pretty much all reserved for coach parties but plenty of restaurants within a few minutes walk. Traffic a little noisy in the bedroom.
Review 47:Stayed in VIP 2 Bedroom Suite which was very large and comfortable. No balcony but massive windows with great views. Good breakfast. Nice pool, sauna and steam room included in price. Great location, about 1 minute walk into the old town. Good staff and free parking at the front of the hotel, very convenient. An international feel to the hotel. Would stay there again.
Review 48:Breakfast coffee was nescafe (yuk) which I don't consider consistent with the otherwise excellent standard of this hotel.
Review 49:Very helpful staff and Veliko Tarnavo is a must if you are in this part of the world.
Review 50:The breakfast choice seemed a little limited and the products not of the best quality.
Review 51:Excellent position and if you choose one of the rooms facing the river you will have a great view. The hotel is well maintained, has a small but nice pool, parking just in front of the location.... All in all a nice experience.
Review 52:I would not book the evening meal if we were to stay again as only 4 set meals to select from. Many fine dining establishments in the area or just pay for what you would like off the main menu in the hotel.
Review 53:Nice place to stay, close to the castle and shops. Staff were very professional and eager to help in anyway. Everything in the room was fine, the view from the window was beautiful. Power shower, very refreshing.
Review 54:It was very hot in the room, airconditioner was not able to cool it enough.
Review 55:The views from the room, the hotel location. Also the breakfast and the staff were great.
Review 56:Everything was OK, very nice, cozy and comfortable, nice and friendly staff, ready to help you, very good breakfast, very clean and beautiful rooms, very nice view to the Tsarevets citadel!
Review 57:Twin beds in double room.. Not so good for couples. Far-away parking.
Review 58:Nice view from the restaurant. Good food. Clean rooms. Good location close to all attraction.
Review 59:The staff behaves indifferently a bit. I think it is unacceptable for such a 4-stars hotel to apply a surcharge for the usage of pools, relax zone and sauna park within the SPA centre - I've visited lots of SPA hotels of that category and it is definitely not a common practice!
Review 60:Our room was huge with the best view ever!
Review 61:The wifi connection was not good. Restaurant ok.
Review 62:Cozy, comfortable, big room (suite). Amazing view and location in old town. Very nice swimming pool. Free parking. Very nice hotel in general and friendly staff.
Review 63:proximity to a main street , and railway, which meant plenty of noise in the small hours of the night too it took almost 3-5 minutes for the warm water in the shower to reach our floor
Review 64:friendly staff, great food at the restaurant, very spacious suite- the two bathroms and two bedrooms made us completely forget we were accompanied by the children, all three rooms- 2 bedrooms and a living room equipped with TV sets; cosy sofa, fluffy towels, clean linen, warm feather/down covers; really a good offer for the money
Review 65:Sauna park wasn't worth it. Steam room should smell like essential oils, but it smelled like dirty river water.
Review 66:VIP Suite has a super view. Good if you are travelling with children - because of the extra room, bathroom and TVs. Massage was nice and good value. Viena Cafe and restaurant were lovely too. Pool area is super!
Review 67:Strange smoking policy. (Guests are allowed to smoke in their rooms, but the property it self is non-smoking,thus you get odd smell in your room) Small pool (8-10 meters, not OK to swim), average breakfast for 4* hotel. Staff is OK. Poor Wi-Fi at some areas.
Review 68:Location is perfect. Rooms are spacious with comfort beds and pretty good view.
Review 69:Excellent location and great room! We had a room with a view of the fortress and it was nice and big! The housekeepers do an excellent job- our room sparkled!
Review 70:The noise of the cleaning ladies, Breakfast was indeed good but could have been better, Swimming pool nice but small Parking is okay, but divided into 2 areas and you might not get a place.
Review 71:The staff is really incredible, helpful, understanding and extremly client oriented. Location is amazing, prices good, spa treatments excellent. Will come back for sure.
Review 72:sound isolation is really weak and we had rather noisy neighbors. Matrasses are not very comfortable but overall this is a very good hotel!
Review 73:Very well maintened hotel. Massage in spa is great, staff is very professional. Location is few minutes away from the old town.
Review 74:We originally rented a double room. We got a room on the 4th floor, but unfortunately did not have a balcony room and the view was not pleasant. I changed to a aprtament on the 3rd floor. The price was double, but the apartment has a huge balcony and a wonderful view. The hotel is clean and a pleasant atmosfeta. The staff is nice and helpful.
Review 75:Small pool.It was really cold in the breakfast restaurant. Curtain in the bathroom -not tipical for 4 stars hotel. The smell from canal.
Review 76:Great location, great view even through the bathroom. Clean, warm and spacios room. Friendly staff. Warm enough water in the pool. Great view from the breakfast restaurant. Really good restaurants very close to the hotel. Parking place infront.
Review 77:Facing the fortress, I opened the window to take photo of the fortress, and noticed a dead bug (looks like a small cockroach about 1/4 inches) on the window frame. The weather was cold already, so it was dead, but not sure what it would be like in the summer. You be the judge. Otherwise, the room and bathroom look ok on cleanliness. Overall, the room, facilities, carpet, and furniture are dated, with relatively dark lighting (room as well as public areas), which probably skew our perception of comfort and cleanliness. All in all, if we are back in Veliko, we will consider Yantra again.
Review 78:The best things about Yantra are the location AND the view! The location is pretty much smack center, just by the obelisk in the center of town. It is perched high above a cliff with a direct view of the fortress (if you get a room facing that way). Same view from the lobby. Room is very spacious, one of the largest rooms you can get in Europe. Facilities are/should be nice, but maybe because we were there off season (October), the hot tub and pool were too cold to use. The staff was pretty good overall, ok friendly, with enough English to get by, but not fluent (to be expected this part of Bulgaria).
Review 79:Smell of smoke in the non-smoking room, the interior is quite shabby for 4star hotel, SPA facilities could be better - the pool is very small and sauna can be used if paid additionally
Review 80:Location, view from the room, decent breakfast
Review 81:-charging to use the sauna and steam room. This is very misleading as the receptionist said it was free. It should be free as it is in most respected hotels around the world.
Review 82:-staff were incredibly helpful and professional -the views from the balcony are stunning
Review 83:Very noisy because of the rail bridge under the hotel . Small indoor pool has only 2 sunbeds. Sauna park is not the "park" - it has Finnish and steam (with bad smell) sauna only. Even cold water you wouldn't have there.
Review 84:View on the fortress Tsarevech. Basic and tasty breakfast. Large room.
Review 85:Far too noisy! Barely got any sleep while I was there. The rooms were boiling hot and if you opened the windows all you could hear was the traffic and trains. Oh, and the pumping music on a sat night from downstairs. The pool was a bit murky too. Stayed at the Gurko Hotel before, a million times better than this place. Not sure it deserves 4 stars or such a good rating.
Review 86:The location was amazing. Breakfast not too bad but had much better elsewhere. The rooms (a vip suite and a double) were clean, beds were comfortable. Staff polite.
Review 87:The hotel is old-fashioned and could do with a spruce up. We found the beds uncomfortable and our room overlooked the railway line in the valley below, so we were woken by trains a number of times (this is the downside of having a view of Tsarevets).
Review 88:The location, near the old town and with a great view over the Tsarevets hill. We didn't try the spa facilities, but they seem to be comprehensive.
Review 89:Toxic smell of the toilet paper, room not made up daily and internet worked 30 percent of the time. Should not advertise having internet with such poor quality.
Review 90:Location and spa was very nice.
Review 91:The limited parcking places The rooms that are very large but furnished without style; a bit of fancy for the confort would help a lot. The cups for cofee were dirty and in spite of the variaty, the cuts were probably from the day before;it is a pitty not to have requiste ustensile to mentain omletta and others a bit warm. The terrace would be nice to be used for breakfast without the sound of the vacuum cleaner even they had to prepare to open the terrace at 9 o' clock.
Review 92:Location that offers the possibility to admire the traces of the bulgarian former capital; the landscape, the ruins of the castel, the savage sourrandings would worth for sure a highest level of services. But hopfully the management will have the inspiration to improve and to turn to the real value this hotel with a lot of potential.
Review 93:Small room. Old furniture and carpet. In the room, there isn't a hanger to put your jacket. The parking in front of the hotel (which has 10 places) was full, and I had to park the car 400 meters away from the hotel.
Review 94:The hotel is well placed. The window view is nice The spa, swimming pool and jacuzzi were excellent
Review 95:one definitely mainly pays for the location and view. Nothing outstanding apart from that: everything is quite old in the rooms, the carpets are worn out, some items should be fixed in the bathroom... Juices and coffee at breakfast are of the cheapest category and barely drinkable. Let's say it is a 2-star hotel with a pano-view.
Review 96:amazing panoramic view perfect central location Wifi was fine in the room Breakfast was fairly ok, except for the drinks parking in front of the hotel clean
Review 97:The beds are very short.
Review 98:We saw the light and sound show from the hotel terrace. The location is great, we could see the castle from the room window. Rooms are spacious.
Review 99:See above. A big difference between the reality and your description .maybe in the room I got! Internet was supposed to work in rooms but in fact it worked only in lobby etc..
Review 100:Locality
Review 101:A little faceless and the staff could have been friendlier. Parking was on the road outside the hotel and didn't feel entirely safe.
Review 102:Great central location. Superb view of the fortress. Clean and well kept.
Review 103:the bell boy insisted to grab mz bag despite it was a verz lite one on mz shoulder. I told him NO so manz times but he simplz pull the bag to the point that it was a strugle between us. He also took someone else bag and because that torist left he follow him outside carzng mz bag also. I told him I want the bag back since I need some stuff from inside it was no waz to make him understand, he actuallz refuse to give back the bag - I feeel like everzthing was so absurd that was possible onlz if I was on hidden cam.
Review 104:location
Review 105:Hotel café was closed, & only found out once we arrived.
Review 106:Room was amazing, location & view from room wonderful. Staff friendly & very helpful.
Review 107:The location is excellent. It overlooks the castle and while there is a performance of sound and light, it is magnificent. The food in the hotel restaurant is excellent.
Review 108:The room was smelling peculiarly. The TV set was old. The wifi in the room was very bad.
Review 109:The style. The region. The view. The very large rooms. Quietness. The price. The breakfast.
Review 110:Small pool, cannot swim if >3 people try to do this
Review 111:Big room, very nice terrace view in the restaurant, good location, free parking, lights & sound show was amaizing
Review 112:The day I arrived I had to eat lunch somewhere else because the restaurant was 100% full with people on a tour. The hotel should reserve for their own guests some tables where to eat. It's a big NO.
Review 113:Big rooms, very good breakfast, nice personnel.
Review 114:parking is a problem in the area
Review 115:everything was OK
Review 116:Breakfast was a bit poor, not value for the money,
Review 117:I liked the view from the window, the pool and the spa, the restaurant also has a nice view
Review 118:smell of cigarettes smoke
Review 119:It is just a little bit too pricey if you don't have a discount.
Review 120:Everything. The View over the Tsarevets is gorgeous.
Review 121:Renew the furniture, and pay attention to the heating system... november isn't summer :))
Review 122:Good staff, very polite!
Review 123:The view from the room was perfect!
Review 124:the smell in the bathroom was really disgusting
Review 125:the view and the location of the hotel was great
Review 126:Size of the room.
Review 127:The lights in the rooms are poor Heating system is not very convenient
Review 128:Staff is very kind
Review 129:Our rooms had a wonderful view. In the evening we enjoyed theTsarevets lightshow. The staff was very helpful.
Review 130:Beds,a large coach party arrived and one our party was told to move out of the lounge to accommodate them
Review 131:Location ,staff,pool and spa,
Review 132:incredible view!
Review 133:No major or minor complaints.
Review 134:Great location and facilities.
Review 135:Bed is very hard, you can't get rid off the sensation that you are in a communist era hotel
Review 136:It has everything, but.....
Review 137:Hallways are really dark. Suite smells like cigarette smoke.
Review 138:Terrace restaurant is really nice. Food was very good!
Review 139:The view is outstanding! It was our second stay in Yantra and both times we were highly satisfied:)
