Reviews for Ambiente Hotel Freieck
Review 1:Only soap & shampoo in bathroom, no other products, no drinks making facilities.
Review 2:Nice decor in communal areas, lovely old building, great modern bathroom, comfy bed & modern TV. In pretty old town area but easy walk from station.
Review 3:Staff extremely helpful, breakfast delicious, room very clean and comfortable. We stayed one night and found the room more that satisfactory for our needs.
Review 4:We would stay here again as we liked this hotel.
Review 5:We booked a triple room as we are a couple and another single adult travelling together. The room was huge and the queen size bed was separated from the single bed by the bathroom. Although it was not a totally seperate room it definitely offered a lot more privacy than any other triple room we had stayed in throughout Europe.
Review 6:No bad experiences.
Review 7:Very nice hotel in city center. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel, little pricey, but great place. Breakfast bar was great!!
Review 8:1. No Proper Shower Area - bathtub used as shower area, and fitted with 1/2 screen splash glass which does not shield us from the cold after a shower.
Review 9:1. Location was excellent. 2. Food was very good. 3. Staff was very friendly and Helpful. 4. Beds are comfortable. 5. Room size reasonable. 6. I like the hotel.
Review 10:There was nothing unlikeable about this hotel.
Review 11:Gorgeous hotel in a really lovely location. Best bathroom we've had yet. Modern & spacious with great lighting. Breakfast included a nice variety of hot & cold dishes - even had proseco available. Staff were very friendly & helpful. We had a lovely room on the fourth floor with views of the pretty street below and the snow-capped mountains.
Review 12:Nothing.
Review 13:everything! clean and spacious room, warm reception, close proximity to railway station. comfortable beds and pillows. good spread for breakfast. cozy hotel.
Review 14:Lovely hotel in a great location. Very clean modern room. Fantastic breakfast and staff at reception could not be faulted. Very friendly and helpful. Thankyou.
Review 15:The after thought bathrooms and backpacker hostel type signage. Obviously the rooms (2) we had were never designed with a separate bathroom wet area and had been added in much the same way as a large walk in wardrobe with no natural light or ventilation. There is also a lot of unnecessary signage in common areas e.g.'don't remove food from the breakfast area' and 'make sure all lights are turned off before leaving your room' etc were a bit unpleasant for a hotel marketing & charging itself out at this level (US$300 per room per night). These comments should not distract from what was otherwise a comfortable & convenient stay.
Review 16:Great location. Clean. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 17:They were renovating one floor above when we stayed so lots of banging and drilling (but I did ask for a room with great views). Switzerland prices compared to other countries we stayed in Europe are nearly double.
Review 18:Great room, comfortable beds. The staff were lovely. Great to be staying in the old town as there is a big difference in charm between the two. Loved the lights in the bathroom!
Review 19:We took the Bernina scenic train from Tirano, Italy to Chur and were there for just one night before catching a flight out of Zurich. Convenient, short walk from the train station. We found the staff to be exceptionally helpful. Clean room, super comfy bed, and a delicious breakfast included. Only downfall is the price, but everything seems a bit expensive in Switzerland. It was the most reasonably priced hotel we found in Chur and we would definitely recommend it to others.
Review 20:I really liked this place arrived from St Moritiz to be shown to an top floor room (as requested) and what a room........corner room with fantastic view of church clock and mountains beyond Close to the rail station, in the old city, which is lovely Lovely modern bathroom and shower in red not a color i would normally put in a bathroom, but it worked No kettle but staff where happy to provide cups of hot water at no charge (take note Ibis) No English Channels on TV this is for info only, as i don't go abroad to watch TV, however Wi-Fi was good enough for me to watch England v Australia rugby match (wish i hadn't) via an app on my Kindle Breakfast proberly the best on our trip around Switzerland, nice happy staff on duty (although i was told off for not wearing anything on my feet be warned!!!!!) Lots of places to eat in old and new city, and normal supermarkets if needed, as a veggie had falafals in old town Stayed in Chur for 2 nights, a town that surprised me as a nice place to go with a great atmosphere despite being a university city Do yourself a favour look this hotel up if your in the area
Review 21:It was within walking distance of the train station. They have a wonderful breakfast. It was an older building but it has been updated. It was very comfortable and you can walk to restaurants and shopping.
Review 22:Would have been nice to be able to make a cup of tea in the room but like most Swiss hotels this is not possible.
Review 23:Excellent location. Nice room with quality facilities. Helpful and cheerful staff.
Review 24:Room did not include any fridge or kettle though a kettle was provided when asked for.
Review 25:Location on station side of old town was ideal - easy 5-10 min walk from station. Room had plenty of space and was beautifully decorated. Staff were excellent, and with impressive language skills. Breakfast was excellent including hot breakfast options.
Review 26:no bad experience , only thing to note is that even there is a lift, you have to carry suitcases up two flights of stairs
Review 27:Great location, very clean room but small
Review 28:On some occasions the staff did not seem happy to interact with the guests. General comment on Chur...Giger bar - dont believe the hype.
Review 29:The ambiance of the room
Review 30:Found prices a little expensive, however, found prices in general in Switzerland high.
Review 31:The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and very clean and beds plush.
Review 32:The hotel is a lovely property and the staff is extremely welcoming. The location in the old city is charming! And, it is extremely close to one of my favorite restaurants--the restaurant in Hotel Stern.
Review 33:No air conditioning but with the fan provided, we did quite well.
Review 34:Staff was great, spoke English, got us a fan immediately when asked, had 110 outlet in bathroom, modern and chic room (good sized also), breakfast was wonderful!
Review 35:Didn't seem as welcoming as many family run hotels. Stayed 7 nights and never met the owners. Otherwise, excellent!
Review 36:Well situated, interesting hotel with bags of history.Excellent breakfast with fresh cooked food as a standard option. Super room with two large TVs, separate bedroom with very comfortable beds.
Review 37:We were given an apartment which was very comfortable and had limited kitchen facilities. Very clean. Breakfast had good choice and freshly cooked eggs. Good large bathroom.
Review 38:It is a very nice hotel at the center of the old town, easy access to the historical. The staff are very nice and helpful. The breakfast is good, too. The room is very clean. It has a big screen TV, bigger than most of the hotels offer.
Review 39:Noisy during the night because of the bar downstairs. In the summer you need to leave the window open... Most rooms have carpet floors. To have something else, a special request must be made beforehand.
Review 40:Excellent location Very good breakfast
Review 41:Not friendly staff at check-out, no "nice that you are a guest"-attitude, toilette/shower in single room really small
Review 42:Location great, good breakfast for 3 star hotel
Review 43:Breakfasts There was a small hot selection, but it was the same everyday, and they seemed to heat up what was left from the previouse day.Oneitem was baked beans in chilli sauce(for breakfast???)
Review 44:Large screen tv in room 40" Has a small bar 10 mins. Walk from Churrail station
Review 45:No double bed. No a/c, but rotating fan provided. Switzerland now too expensive for UK visitors. Better UK TV channels (only CNN)
Review 46:Great location, close to old town? Very good walk-in shower
Review 47:Not easy if you are a light sleeper. No air con so windows open and church bells do not stop chiming every 15 mins 24/7. No kettle in room to make tea or coffee also poor.
Review 48:Hassle free. Hotel handy for shops, bars, restaurants. Decent breakfast.
Review 49:It was hot and there was no air conditioning just a fan.
Review 50:The beds were super comfy. Location was great altho a little difficult to find at first and even some of the locals didn't quite know where to go when we asked directions. Breakfast really lovely. 4 single beds but we're were ok with that. Extremely access for an early start on Bernina Express.
Review 51:We do like balconies, but for one night we didn't miss it too much!
Review 52:The hotel is in the characterful old part of Chur & is very comfortable. The room was large & modern, the bed king-size & the bathroom wonderful. The breakfast was the most extensive we had in five weeks in Switzerland.
Review 53:The wifi didn't work at all in my room, which was on the top floor. I had Swiss 4G so it was ok but can imagine this being frustrating. The staff were nice but not as exceptional as I was expecting seeing some of the reviews.
Review 54:Bed and duvet very comfy, view from the room on the mountains was fantastic. Peaceful at night, despite church bells ringing (muffled enough by the double glazing to be charming rather than annoying). Breakfast was amazing - never had Prosecco at breakfast before, a very classy touch!
Review 55:The rooms were clean, tidy and modern - the views were beautiful. The hotel was only a short walk to the station. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Review 56:Our room was a little tricky to get to as there were a number of steps between the adjoining buildings. However, this quirkiness also added to the charm.
Review 57:This hotel is located in the heart of Chur. It was like staying in a delightful fairytale town.
Review 58:This is a wonderful old building in a great location. The owners are great and the staff very friendly. The rooms are nice and well appointed. Breakfast is incredible! Be aware that there is no parking - they have spaces in a private lot about 500' up the street - it is very difficult to find parking otherwise.
Review 59:If arriving late and reception closed be sure to have good directions and let the hotel know you'll be late.
Review 60:The hotel is 8 mins walk from train station. Very safe town. Great location, very central. The hotel staff friendly, the foyer area lovely for a coffee, the bedroom with ensuite very spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast excellent selection. Highly recommend.
Review 61:No airconditioning but can open the room to cool down
Review 62:The room was quite spacious and we had a great view out our window. Easy walk to the station and very nice breakfast.Newly renovated bathroom was great. Easy walking everywhere
Review 63:Delightful hotel in centre of beautiful old town. Less than 10 mins walk to station which was very convenient. Room was spacious with lovely mountain view. Extremely comfortable bed and great shower! We would certainly return here.
Review 64:Hotel rambled with many sets of steps hard to manage with luggage, ask for room near reception.
Review 65:Close to station in old town. Walk from station easy. Restaurants nearby. Perfect overnight stay for Glacier Express.
Review 66:Lot of street noise from late night revellers and then early noise from bin men and delivery vehicles - especially with the window open - necessary for fresh air.
Review 67:Very clean and comfortable. Welcoming and efficient staff. Ten minutes walk from railway station, and in the heart of the old town. Great buffet breakfast.
Review 68:Nothing we didn't like.
Review 69:Comfortable bed, fabulous bathroom and a varied and tasty breakfast menu. Easy walk from station for our morning connection.
Review 70:Staff was very friendly and personable. The hotel had more of a bed-and-breakfast kind of feel, which made my stay much more comfortable and enjoyable. Great location.
Review 71:Strange to have a kitchenette in my room, useless to my opinion. Would have preferred the extra space.
Review 72:Location in the old city, quiet but near everything. Very friendly staff
Review 73:I'd rather have a double bed - as far as I can tell it is standard for Swiss hotels to only provide single beds. They're pushed together, but they're still separate beds.
Review 74:Comfortable, clean, welcoming, and my boyfriend assures me the WiFi had the best security of anywhere we stayed on our trip (it's what he does for a living, so he should know).
Review 75:- no kettle - no possibility to isolate the bathroom from the room so the light can be annoying
Review 76:- Very quiet - the breakfast - the bath (which is big enough for a pregnant woman :)) - the staff
Review 77:The hotel was spotless. The staff were friendly and the bar was cosy. The location is perfect for exploring the old town and is close to the cable car for access to the mountains. The room was lovely and had an excellent shower. Breakfast was wonderful. Definitely returning.
Review 78:The breakfast was nice, room was spacious and bathroom had a cool modern design. Very comfortable stay. Host was very helpful and accommodating.
Review 79:Full breakfast servings should be available for entire breakfast time. We arrived 35 minutes before close to find several items missing.
Review 80:Situated in the old town and near to the mountains, it is a picturesque and relaxing. The staff were mostly bright and welcoming. It was part of a wonderful break for both myself and my wife.
Review 81:More info about the services of the bar would have been useful
Review 82:The rooms and view were spectacular, service great, cleanliness excellent. Bathrooms modern and well appointed. Loved the disco lights in the bathroom!
Review 83:- The breakfast is really below standards. I know that meat is expensive in Switzerland, but the only meat available was one plate of (fairly old) salami. There was no fresh cheese available either, only one plate of plastic wrapped industrial cheese. - Wifi reception was not good, I need to use my 4G connection.
Review 84:- Right in the center of Chur, fairly close to the station - Pretty clean
Review 85:Just a little expensive but that's Switzerland !
Review 86:Breakfast was excellent. Hotel is very nice right in the old town and an easy walk with suitcases to train station . We did think the hotel was a little pricey, other than that it fine.
Review 87:I often wait a few weeks before reviewing as time sorts out what is memorable and what isn't. I can't think of anything I didn't like about the hotel.
Review 88:The hotel is walking distance from train, but we choose to take a taxi. We did walk it in the morning, once we had a lay out of the land. The staff is accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. First visit to Chur and hope to return and I would stay in this hotel again. I found the bed comfortable, but everybody likes what they like and I find you can't rely on this on listings (unless they said the bed was extremely hard, or unbearably soft - this bed was neither and what I like)
Review 89:This hotel provided great accommodations for four people in an updated room. Breakfast was full and very good - included in price. Staff recommended a wonderful traditional Swiss restaurant down the street.
Review 90:We liked everything, location, the town, close to train, the hotel. It looks old but inside it is refurbished to a very high standard. Family room was large, bathroom was beautiful. Cosey bar. Very helpful and nice staff. Would highly recomend it.
Review 91:Lovely modern room, with bathroom facilities. Hotel tastefully decorated, and breakfast was abundant and tasty. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful.
Review 92:1. Small elevator...but this is a minor dislike.
Review 93:1. Large room 2. Clean room 3. Great shower/bath area (could be in a designer magazine) 4. Great location 5. Very helpful staff 6. Fantastic breakfast 7. Relatively near train station
Review 94:The smallest twin bed room has a sliding door for the bathroom.
Review 95:The location, the friendly staff, the interior with a comfy bar and recently renovated and cool lobby, excellent breakfast.
Review 96:The hotel has recently updated their rooms which are very comfortable and tech 'recharge' friendly. Our room looked out on the ancient bell tower that still alerted everyone hourly. There is still an ancient 'feel' to the city, even though the city walls came down long ago. The tram and gondolas up the side if the mountain are only a few blocks away making it possible to see the town- and those surrounding for miles- literally from a birds eye view! Breakfast was wonderful, with local baked goods and jams, and a chef there to make eggs or waffles to your liking.
Review 97:From the moment we arrived to check-in at reception to the moment we checked-out we simply loved our one night stay at the Ambiente Hotel Freieck. The room was well equiped with a stylish bathroom, the beds were very comfy and the quite room ensured we slept soundly. The staff were always very friendly and helpful.
Review 98:Nothing
Review 99:The room was big and open, comfy and clean with a great view and the funkiest bathroom lights! And a rain shower!!!! We liked the location, it was nice to be in the historical part yet be close enough to most things. The lobby was a lovely area to chill in and the breakfast on offer was generous and served Champagne!
Review 100:A very clean and comfortable hotel located within the Old Town of Chur. A 15 minute walk from the train station - an excellent choice for an overnight stay prior to boarding the Bernina Express. The English speaking staff was very friendly and helpful, the wifi worked well in our room and the breakfast was very good and plentiful, with offerings of eggs, bacon, delicious breads and fresh fruits. One of the best breakfasts we had during our travels. The church bells added to the charm of the location. Would definitely recommend!
Review 101:The bed itself was very comfortable but the pillow was way too soft.
Review 102:The breakfast buffet choice was excellent - if we had had the time I would have happily lingered. Nice bar and lounge area too. Good bathroom with a decent shower.
Review 103:Only the location - it's more than a walk from the centre although their is a regular tram at the end of the street.
Review 104:Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room had everything you need and was clean.
Review 105:Lovely room, excellent choice for breakfast, located in a quiet part of the city close to all the amenities. Would definetly recommend this Hotel as a place to stay in Chur.
Review 106:As most people say the church bells do ring at odd times but it didn't really disturb us with the windows closed.
Review 107:We stopped on the top floor, the room was large & spacious along with the bathroom. A good location in the old part of the town only 10 minutes walk from the station.
Review 108:The hotel is convenient to the train station and located in the old town of Chur. It was extremely quiet and peaceful at night. The hotel was spotlessly clean and had welcoming and helpful staff. The breakfast was superb! We'd recommend this hotel to visitors to Chur without any hesitation!
Review 109:Costly, but compared to other hotels we stayed in when visiting Switzerland this place offered fair value for our money.
Review 110:Excellent location, good size of the room and spotlessly clean. Design of the bathroom was very nice. Stayed on 5th floor with nice view. Very good breakfast selection.
Review 111:Only thing was the lack of aircon but that's fine after opening the windows even in August. Stayed on Friday night though and was a bit noisy till late
Review 112:New, great staff, great breakfast, very comfortable bed
Review 113:They only cater for meals for groups so you can't get any food other than breakfast. No tea making facilities in the room and no fridge.
Review 114:Comfortable and clean rooms with a good breakfast. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Located in the old part of town five minutes walk from the station.
Review 115:There is a restaurant on the ground level, and some of the patrons go outside to smoke, and can be loud or otherwise block the entrance.
Review 116:Good location, modern rooms, friendly service.
Review 117:The pillows were flat and lumpy for us
Review 118:Unique hotel, lovely staff, fantastic breakfast and easy walk with luggage from the train station, which was convenient as we were catching the Bernina Express
Review 119:First of all - Only a short walk from the railway station. 2nd - the position in the old town ( such character ) 3 rd - the friendliness of the staff 4th - the cleanliness of the room. 4th - the comfortable beds, great bathrooms ! 5 th - The fantastic breakfast! First time I have had complimentary Champagne with breakfast! 6th - Late checkout!! Thank You! Loved it!
Review 120:For me the bed was bit on the soft side, but that is a matter of taste.
Review 121:The nice location close to center, also the breakfast was very good.
Review 122:Mountain view from the window, clean comfortable room, breakfast, good location. There is a kitchen desk in the room.
Review 123:Location (walk very where), comfy beds, excellent breakfast
Review 124:The breakfast buffet is super
