Reviews for Hotel Franziskaner

Review 1:I felt the hotel was over priced for what it was (but all of Switzerland is expensive) as it was very basic. The rooms were clean but had a shared bathroom, which was not really a problem and was also clean. The main problem of the hotel was it was extremely noisy. The rooms are not sound proof. The doors and floors are very squeaky. You could hear every time someone got up and left their room as you had to use and old fashioned key for entry. This is not a good place to stay if you are a light sleeper.

Review 2:I loved that this hotel was in the old part of Chur. The location was fantastic. Right in the muddle of cobblestone streets opening out onto beautiful shops and the Christmas Markets were right around the corner. The breakfast was good. The staff were friendly.

Review 3:1.No Lift 2. Too noisy--Closing window has no effect 3. 1 Km from Rail station 4. Room is to small

Review 4:1. I have requested please give packet breakfast and they did, thanks

Review 5:Got to carry my heavy luggage 2 stories up. No elevator. Staff did not give a helping hand either to carry up or down my heavy luggage. No calling facility to reception hence had to come down for anything. about 15mins walk from station

Review 6:The hotel is nice and clean. Situated in the nice old city.

Review 7:The room only includes washing basin and shower. Toilet is shared. There is no elevator. There was smell of smoke, even it is non-smoking room. You have to walk uphill slightly from the central station to the hotel. The church bell rings every half hour, which may make it quite difficult for light-sleepers.

Review 8:The room is clean and large. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is quite good, although choice is limited.

Review 9:Nothing as all the odds were described by others and I accepted the conditions. It's a great place to stay.

Review 10:Well located. Really 10 minutes walk from the train station / bus terminal . Near to everywhere. Remember, no elevator. Very friendly staff. Nice breakfast.

Review 11:Very noisy as it is located above several pubs which serve drinks to drunk, loud locals until after midnight. The windows are poorly insulated, so we could hear the shouting and fighting until 02 in the morning. Avoid if you can.

Review 12:The location and the breakfast was good.

Review 13:During weekend night, quite noisy outside in midnight. Sometimes it is a little difficult to sleep well.

Review 14:Service was good and kind, we like all the smiles here!

Review 15:Bed to large for room, could hardly get to the other side. Floor was wonky and room seemed run down. Too pricy for shared bathrooms.

Review 16:Good location and cheese fondue.

Review 17:The hotel is located in the old city and close the train station. Many bars are around and on Saturday night there were many people during the night screaming and making noise, nothing bad to say about the hotel, but that makes us to do not have a nice sleep.

Review 18:The staff was were very helpful and kind. Nice and cozy restaurant.

Review 19:Uninspiring, basic accommodation. The bathroom was very dated with a really terrible shower. Very weak Wi-Fi signal in the bedroom. Noise from the bar and the street continues late into the evening.

Review 20:Good location, in the old town and just 10 minutes' walk from Chur main station. The breakfast was exceptionally fresh and tasty - one of the very best breakfasts I had in Switzerland.

Review 21:Unpleasent smell of the kitchen from the restaurant downstair. Though my room is on the third floor, the smell come into the room when I go to the bathroom outside and I have to close the windows too.

Review 22:Situation, walkable distance to the railway station and old town.

Review 23:Stayed overnight only but it was okay. I liked that it was in a very quaint square, I wouldn't mind staying longer here. Breakfast was good. Close to main train station.

Review 24:Need a little bit climb.

Review 25:Great location, center of the old town and walkable to/from train station. Cozy and clean room. Love the breakfast so much. Very fresh bread, salami and cheese!

Review 26:Bells, OMG the bellls, 24x7 the bells keep chiming through the night 50 metres from hotel. Parking is a 10min walk away and very expensive even for Swiss standards.

Review 27:Location to old town, bars, cafes, historical places.

Review 28:No escalator - had to carry luggage upstairs - bathroom not so nice - old facioned

Review 29:Location - bedroom spacious with very nice old town square view. Big bay windows

Review 30:I had a shared bathroom option, the bathroom was fine and there was a sink in room. Outside the bars and restaurants will continue making noise to midnight and over so bring ear plugs. There is also a bell that will toll... It s a decent hotel and switzerland is expensive but the price could have been a bit less...

Review 31:Good location, nice staff, breakfast ok

Review 32:The directions to the location could be a little more clearer.

Review 33:I only stayed there for a night, but it was very comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful,it was newly refurbished and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. When (and not if) i go back to that amazing town, i'd love to stay there again.

Review 34:Single room is very cramped, and, for those with a heart condition, no elevator.

Review 35:Nice location in Old Town and not far from bahnhof. Very clean. Popular restaurant on ground floor. C

Review 36:Liked everything

Review 37:This is an authentic Swiss hotel alright and in a great place. Entering the hotel, being in the room, this is Switzerland ! Some references elsewhere to noise at night but there was absolutely none. Given all the currency turmoil right now, I thought the price was very reasonable. If you want to take the train to Arosa, you are a few hundred metres from the station. In fact Chur station itself is close by.

Review 38:It was such a nice stay at clean and central hotel. Staff was nice and shared bathroom was very clean. We stay with little kid, evertyhing was fine and it is really in good price comparing with the others.

Review 39:Have stayed here many times in the distance past, its till impossible to enter room 22 with a suitcase due to the oversized wardroom stopping the door open fully, it is a very small room. Breakfast not available until 07.00, too late if you have an early train.I was deliberately short changed on paying for a drink, I thought those days had finished.

Review 40:Its easy to find, 20 meters from Stadt train stop.

Review 41:No lift and nobody to help with suitcases up to 2 nd floor!

Review 42:The shared bathroom was clean breakfast was available even though we were leaving early reasonably close to train station

Review 43:If you like the church bell going off every 30mins all night and the sound of the fountain, then you'll be fine.

Review 44:Only 10mins walk away from the bus/rail stations. Lovely big room on the corner.

Review 45:The night I stayed was awful!! Thestaff werenot friendly, for any question, they always kept the customer waiting for a lomg time. And during the night I could not sleep at all, group of bands and peole were shouting outside the window till 3or 4 am in the mornig! I went to the staff earlier to change a room, but they did not care and refused to change the room. Felt like the staff does not xare about the customer's stay at all.worst experience!

Review 46:Wifi was limited.

Review 47:Great location in the Old Town and easy walk from station. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast is included in price. Restaurant was very good with local specialities and good friendly service for a reasonable price.

Review 48:No booking recorded when we arrived even though we had booked nearly a week beforehand.

Review 60:Friendly staff. Good service.

Review 61:My daughters room number 22very small ... Need to remove large cupboard

Review 62:Location in old Town excellent .Staff very friendly and excellent breakfast

Review 63:Having to haul heavy luggage up 2 flights of stairs.

Review 64:Clean and friendly staff. Beds very comfortable.

Review 65:trouble with wi fi and they didn't have my booking

Review 66:the location.

Review 67:Chur prices are opportunistic due to ? the Bernina express travelers, way over priced but that is Chur

Review 68:Lovely hotel and resturant

Review 69:Great restaurant at the hotel and a very good breakfast

Review 70:Staff were not very helpful with questions.

Review 71:The location

Review 72:The room was tight and it was a little pricey

Review 73:The location and very nice friendly staff

Review 74:breakfast was ok

Review 75:location

Review 76:- Lot of Music at the bottom. - A couple of things where broken.

Review 77:The staff where very nice.

Review 78:very noisy until midnight. Noise was from the bar in neighborhood.

Review 79:Very good location

Review 80:Staff were excellent

Review 81:Nice clean room, friendly staff, good location typical continental breakfast.

Review 82:Cheap gd facilities nice food nice staff

Review 83:Simple food well prepared in delightful restaurant.

Review 84:car parking was terribly expensive

Review 85:Being in the old centre and breakfast.

Review 86:Very noisy at night, must be bars/clubs in the street.

Review 87:Staff were fantastic, good food in the restaurant.

Review 88:Excellent value for money...good staff..excellent breakfast... restaurant with local specialties.

Review 89:Very poor mattress No isolation from the windows Tiny room.i could barely move. No comfort at all.

Review 90:Staff very friendly Great location

Review 91:Bath in hall Schlepping bags up/down stairs.

Review 92:Clean, comfortable room and good location for exploring old city and connecting with Bernina Express Train. Sweet dining room and staff - feels like old Switzerland. Deliscious pastries and jam in the morning.

Review 93:There is an authentic Thai food restaurant around the corner of the hotel. It's really yummy! My husband and I missed the food very much. Value for money.

Review 94:Too expensive for a very small room. The shared bathroom was not in the same floor, but downstairs. The street is very noisy because of the bars and the room is too hot in summer hot.

Review 95:The breakfast is quite good compared with the other services of the hotel

Review 96:It was a hotel where you need to commune with your fellow travellers inthe tavern below.... Too much echo... If you just stay in your room.

Review 97:A wunderbar Swiss woman ran the hotel and the breakfast wasincredible.... Everything was fresh, delicious. Worth the stay just forthe visit.Overall... very happy with experience and incredible hospitality of the Swiss ladies in the morning. Keep in mind that you should be out exploring in the morning and simply sleeping at night. This isn't a resort.... but worth the money because: 1. vicinity to Chur main train-station for catching the Bernina Express.

Review 98:The room, single, was very small. Food, as everywhere in Switzerland at the moment for Brits, was ridiculously expensive. Also, there's always a lingering reek of smoke, as the Swiss have yet to ban smoking throughout public buildings, so it seeps up from the bar'

Review 99:The staff were extremely helpful and we felt very relaxed there. We enjoyed our breakfast. This hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the railway station and located near the historic centre of Chur. It was ideal for us, even with several bags;we didn't need to pay for taxis. The hotel does not have a lift but the staff were more than willing to assist us get our bags to our upstairs room.

Review 101:Wifi was not working across the street.

Review 102:Staff was fantastic. Opened breakfast early as our train was leaving before normal breakfast hours. Our room was across the street and was fairly large and had high ceilings. Furnishings were simple but comfortable. Bathroom was standard small bathroom with shower.

Review 103:It was a very basic hotel with lots of noise from outside the window. The bathroom had chips out of the bath with limescale. I would not recommend it to anyone!!

Review 104:Some surprising skimpiness for a hotel of this price range: No elevator up to our room number 1. No individual lighting for each twin bed: except for a small table lamp, you had to either turn all lights on or all lights off. Both of us hit our heads on the poorly-placed shelf over the room's desk.

Review 105:Good, quiet location in car-free center of Chur; 10-minute walk or two bus stops on line 1 from Chur rail station. (The hotel is also very close to the "Chur Stadt" station of the rail line to Arosa.) Good breakfast, including eggs. Free wifi works fine.

Review 106:Unfortunately the location also proved to be a downside as it wasincredibly loud there at night from the street. It is a shame becausethis was the main and only let down of the hotel. It was so loud that itwas not possible for me to sleep without earplugs, and even then I couldstill hear the people from the street sometimes. This was mainly peopleon the open terrace bars outside on the streets, so in winter it mightbe much quieter. I think the hotel could improve on this by replacingthe windows with ones that provide a better sound screening and/orprovide window shutters on the windows.

Review 107:A good combination of price and location, especially for Switzerland. Itis really in the historic part of Chur, a few minutes walk from thetrain station. The room reasonably large with double bed and a good quality mattress, which is not so usual for this price. There was also a wash basin in the room which is really useful when the bathroom is shared. There was a free wifi which was available in the room. (The wifi was unsecured and available everywhere, despite some confused information that there is a password and it is only on the first floor.)

Review 108:A bit noisy night life during weekends in the city. I booked twin bed room, but didn't get it.

Review 109:Well located in the city center, close to the station. Most of the staff were friendly.

Review 110:- I booked a single room for me and for my 5 years old son. At the check- in we received an upgrade (free of charge) for a double room. It was really-really kind from the hotel staff- Clean, refurbished room - the best value for the paid price during my stay in Switzerland (9 days)

Review 111:No lift, bedroom floor was on a slope, tv reception very poor and wifidid not work, staff were the bartenders from bar who worked down stairswere not very helpful, the rooms are above the hotel with noisycustomers drinking till very late, was very noisy all night with localspassing by yelling, then early morning around 6am they were setting upfor markets in the streets below. We did not stay of breakfast as wereeager to get out.

Review 112:Room was clean

Review 113:Please see notes I submitted regarding Bernina Hotel in Tirano,Italy. I got them mixed up. The staff person Joah who was so helpfulwas at Hotel Franiskaner. The room was very small but comfortable, good bed, shared bath worked fine and kept very clean. Nice locationin heart of old town, but a little far to walk dragging largesuitcase....worth it however.

Review 114:Very, very small room, noisy, shared bathroom. Don't waste your $$$here.130.00 US...Don't waste your money here.

Review 115:Employees were nice, but building was very, very old.

Review 116:The hotel reception is on the back of the restaurant. The roomsstart from first floor. Our rooms were on second floor and therewere no lifts.

Review 117:The rooms were ok, breakfast was ok and the location from train stationwas easier to find.

Review 118:The hotel was tricky to find from the rail station. Knowing to follow the Arosa train line up to the Obertor (medieval town tower) near the bridge would have made it easier to locate.

Review 119:A clean, well located hotel with a small exceptionally friendly staff. Room was very large. Restaurant was well priced for delicious meals.

Review 120:Hotel next to outgoing noisy bar

Review 121:Noisy at night when patrons from nearby bars were leaving. Creaking floorboards.

Review 122:Large room. Nice breakfast.

Review 123:Very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff . Great double room with quaint window seats, pleasant views.

Review 124:Hotel Reception layout (small)

Review 125:Very very friendly and nice Staff - Exceptional
