Reviews for Downtown Hotel
Review 1:no complimentary water in the room. There were lots of fly in the dining area, during breakfast time we saw many flies around...
Review 2:everything else quite alright
Review 3:The place seems well-organized and the receptionist was very good about storing our suitcases both on arrival and departure. The rooms are pleasant and the bed linen was new and spotless. The bathroom is in good condition; there's a very good hairdryer, the shower is powerful and the water is proplerly hot. The tea and coffee making facilities are convenient for a quick brew. The cooked breakfast was perfectly adequate (the cereals less so) and there was yoghurt and some fresh fruit. Altogether, a very pleasant stay.
Review 4:About a ten minute walk from bus station. Price was a bit high for winter season in Gozo, and interior room was with a window to an interior space, not exterior. Assuming that occupancy was low, it would have been nice to have been upgraded to a street front view with a real window view.
Review 5:Room was clean, and staff was friendly. The food in restaurant for dinner was good, and breakfast included was a bonus.
Review 6:The breakfast left much to be desired. The juices were watered down and the coffee was undrinkable. Choice was very limited in general with the food. Not exactly fit for a 3 star rating.
Review 7:The rooms are quite large and airy. Good location if you want to stay in the capital.
Review 8:I didnt like the fact that our neighbours had a dog with them which barked every so often. The breakfast is a little poor and very oily.
Review 9:the room facilities are really good for a three star hotel the games room for kids is excellent and very safe
Review 10:The air-conditioning in the room was out of order. This was reported to the front desk by 7pm but by 11pm it was not repaired and the hotel was unable to provide an alternative room. Instead we were supplied with a noisy stand fan that didn't allow us to sleep.
Review 11:Good location.
Review 12:Restaurant,we were half board food very basic and took a long time to arrive although was hot and just cooked. Swimming pool should be marked as closed very dirty not suitable to use looked more like a pond.
Review 13:Reception staff polite and helpful Rooms clean and comfortable.
Review 14:The only drawback was a lack of restaurants - Gozo is great but there are limited choices within walking distance for dinner from the hotel - this more a reflection of Victoria than the hotel - the town center is only a 10 minute walk.
Review 15:Great price, clean and friendly staff.
Review 16:A little bit out of the centre, make sure you have GPS or print a map ahead of time. WiFi wasn't working first night.
Review 17:Friendly staff, great value for money, short walk to the town centre.
Review 18:The hotel lacked some facilities but it was good overall.
Review 19:The hotel was quite cosy especially for the price. The furniture was modern and we had all the necessities in the room.
Review 20:The drain hole in the bath was a bit blocked and the water took some time to drain. We were in Room 308.
Review 21:We liked the cleanliness and the breakfast, as well as the fast room service. We also liked the view.
Review 22:The breakfast was very poor quality-wise. Watered down fruit juice, very greasy bacon and sausage, watery scrambled egg. The yoghurt was just about the cheapest on the market and no variety.
Review 23:Reception and cleaning staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 24:Mattress was a little uncomfortable and sheets were too small for the bed, making for a less than ideal sleep.
Review 25:Friendly hotel staff and courtesy bus to Dwerja was a real bonus. Driver was incredibly friendly and informative. Nice country view from our clean hotel room.
Review 26:Pool is small for a hotel, although we still used it on our 2 night stay, But we noticed that it wasn't filtered properly overnight and was a little dirty.
Review 27:Breakfast is delicious ! Room was very clean, towels were changed daily. Staff were very helpful :)
Review 28:Best thing is the perfect location. Easy walking distance to main town, shops and festa celebrations. The pool was also great as we travelled in the middle of summer. Will definitely book it again.
Review 29:The pool is really small and very few can swim at one time. The breakfast is good although the choice of food is limited.Parking is not available so you have to park around the Hotel in the streets.
Review 30:The Hotel is really cheap and it worth a visit especially in winter season.
Review 31:The sheets were clean but a bit bobbled. Maybe a few extra TV channels would be fine. Aircon in the reception hall was far too cold
Review 32:Sent a message when booking with a special requirement and it was taken up without any prompting
Review 33:Hm, this is nitpicking -- the pool (yes, there is a pool) at the rooftopcould be cleaned more regularly and I wish it was open at night (nightswimming with a view of the Cittadella would be amazing)
Review 34:Pretty much everything: friendly and helpful staff, sufficient breakfast(full English, could add a few more things though), the presence of thepool, location is not too bad
Review 35:Breakfast finished Early for some and breakfast staff could clean tables faster when people leave as the popular place were left un wiped, other wise great, pool closes early in summer months 8pm.
Review 36:Really central , friendly local staff, had no problems parking
Review 37:I had some problems with the television reception. It was rectified after I complained with the receptionist. The fact that there is no parking for the residents.
Review 38:The pool was fine, however nearly half of it is taken by that unwanted piece in the middle which makes it even smaller.
Review 39:Breakfast is really horrible at least on the day we were there. Just fry up, poor quality jams, poor quality yogurt, tiny apples...No cold cuts for who has to be on a sugar free/low fat diet due to health reasons.
Review 40:Room overlooked a shaft. Althoigh not really a bother as only spent time to sleep.
Review 41:Great place to stay particularly if out and about. Walking distance to Victoria centre and shopping arcades. Good breakfast.
Review 42:The location is excellent - it's at Victoria, which is a central location at Gozo. The staff is very friendly. Lunch at the restaurant is really nice.
Review 43:Breakfast is somewhat basic, bacon and sausages are the cheapest you can buy but they did have apples for a healthier alternative
Review 44:Reasonable price and fairly good standard of accommodation
Review 45:Wifi and breakfast could be better.
Review 46:Staff was helpful, room was spacious and clean, 5 minute walk from the main bus station, close to the supermarket and other shops. I enjoyed my stay here.
Review 47:We love staying here because we can explore all of Gozo, it's quite close to the bus station in Victoria. There are lovely gardens nearby and plenty to see in Victoria itself. The pool has a wonderful view of the Citadella. Staff are always friendly and helpful too.
Review 48:It would help a lot if:- 1) the A/C was less noisy and 2) if there was a mosquito net fixed to the window which would have permitted us to switch off the A/C.
Review 49:Homely atmosphere.
Review 50:The hotel has a children's play area and I can imagine that in peak season, they hotel will be full if families and not such a quite stay -- if you are looking for one.
Review 51:I paid extra to take a room at the back of the hotel witha balcony and a view -- which is really worth it if you want a quite room. They also have extensive facilities including tea-making facilities, a safe and good balcony furniture.
Review 52:The staff were lovely and so polite! The rook was very clean with a lovely country view with a private balcony not overlooked by others. The breakfast was good too. Definitely will be going there again :)
Review 53:Breakfast was a little limited. There were only two types of bread which were a bit stale. The cake was too soft and tasteless. However, not bad for a 3-star hotel.
Review 54:Quite area. Fast check-in and -out. We dined at the hotel's restaurant and the food was very good and the prices were very reasonable.
Review 55:We were only disappointed by the fact that the place has a children's play area, however my kid could not use it as it was booked most of the weekend for private parties.
Review 56:Breakfast was great, it exceeds the expectations of a 3 star hotel. Room was quite large and very comfortable. We also had a very nice balcony with a partial country view
Review 57:Breakfast was very basic and could have been a lot better. The choice of food was very limited and the coffee was from a machine rather than freshly brewed coffee.
Review 58:Staff are friendly and helpful and did their best to answer all our questions.
Review 59:The lift was unusual by needing the room key to make it work.
Review 60:Great location from the Victoria bus station and to reach Ggantila and return to Mgarr and the ferries. We had a balcony overlooking the countryside and could see the citadel on one side.
Review 61:On the whole we liked the breakfast. We believe it is even better than other similarly graded hotels. However we did not like the orange juice of the dispenser. It's flavour barely resembles that of oranges. We are sure such a minor thing could be rectified to the satisfaction of the patrons.
Review 62:The fact that is central located in the town. Most especially in the non-summer months we came to the conclusion that it is ideal since one can even reach most of Victoria by foot.
Review 63:The staff were a little noisy. We could hear the cleaning staff outside our room at 7am. Breakfast was a little poor
Review 64:It was a good nights stay! Clean and comfortable rooms.
Review 65:My parents were approaching their 25th anniversary so I decided to book them in a hotel in Gozo. Not only were they satisfied with their stay at the Downtown (they praised everything from the staff, the location and the welcoming rooms), but they are planning to go there in the near future!
Review 66:I got lost finding it - its only short distance from the city centre, but I should have printed off a map to help.
Review 67:Staff had provided the double bed and bath we requested. Spacious clean room.
Review 68:They messed up with the booking. At first they could not find my booking under my name, so then they just gave us a room - luckily they had one! Upon checkout they informed me that funds had already been taken through my credit card when I specifically advised I will be paying in cash. They then admitted that the booking was later found, surprisingly under my guest's name.
Review 69:The location but most of all the friendly staff. The first room we were assigned to had a nasty smell due the heavy and incessant rainfall on that day. When we informed reception, they immediately upgraded us to a street view room.
Review 70:Breakfast very poor - cheap instant coffee and orange juice as water. In the room the smell of detergents
Review 71:Nice location, freandly personal at reception, free wifi
Review 72:Although there is an internet service, We could not send emails from our laptop. Then we used google mail
Review 73:The hotel is an exce3llent all rounder with excellent location, comfort and overall environment
Review 74:As for the b`fast it was enough for me but not for my husband. He would have preferred to have some baked beans or tomatoes, both items were finished and not replaced An electric kettle will enhance the room standard, for a hot cup drinker like me .
Review 75:I enjoyed it although it was a short stay .The room was very clean and tidy .Nice view
Review 76:We had a room with extractor fans attached to it switched on most of the time...after a complaint they decreased their speed from midnight to 5am...but it was far from a relaxed stay considering i had to time my sleep as well!
Review 77:Very clean hotel..location is great...
Review 78:The position. Although very close to the center, it's in the parallel of the main road. At night it's quite dark and isolated. Not a problem if you travel in couple or more. Breakfast could be improved with some sweet croissants. Bathroom didn't have shampoo and showergel for each guest but just a dispenser on the wall.
Review 79:The staff was very kind. The room was quiet and cozy. Breakfast abundant. Very close to city center and shopping centres. Well connected with the harbour.
Review 80:On morning the breakfast bar heater went off and no one notices till we complained the food was cold, the previous day it was hot. They sorted the problem in time but to late for our breakfast. Plenty to eat though other than cooked food.
Review 81:We upgraded from Budget room as they were too dark, but the rooms were a good siz, plenty hot water for showers etc, fridge,TV FREE WIFI in rooms..we enjoyed the loccation, easy walk to shops and bus station.Pub,Games room down stairs helped to pass tie in cold evenings playing pool. Had a good time.
Review 82:Proximity to the Island's main and only town. It is also at the heart of the Island of Gozo. Shops nearby open till late. Easy access to all parts of hotel, friendly staff, clean, breakfast wonderful. Looking forward to visiting again,
Review 83:The room was claen and we even got a free upgrade. It is in a very tranquil area so we managed to relax- all Gozo is in that case... The breakfast was just what the doctor ordered not! We had a field of a breakfast. A good base prior going to the opera or any artisitc production Gozo offers
Review 84:The safe in the room was not functioning.
Review 85:The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is adequate. The location is great for visiting places in the capital Victoria.
Review 86:Noise from ventilation which passed next to room and sounded like a lorry idling, mercifully it shut down late at night. Could not shut toilet door it jammed. Safe in room did not work
Review 87:Clean, comfortable.
Review 88:Noise in corridors. Slow service in restaurant.
Review 89:Well located in town centre. Friendly, helpful staff. Spacious room. Nice breakfast. Excellent Wi-Fi.
Review 90:The noisy air conditioning unit which didn't have a sleep mode and couldn't be adjusted, so it was a nightmare to get any sleep & with 90%humidity;hell to try and sleep without it.
Review 91:Everything, except for the noisy air conditioning unit which didn't have a sleep mode and couldn't be adjusted, so it was a nightmare to get any sleep & with 90%humidity;hell to try and sleep without it.
Review 92:No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast adequate but could very easily become excellent with little effort (real orange juice would be a start).
Review 93:We went up for the opera which took place around 400metres away so location was ideal! Also convenient for having a nightcap in St George's square about 6600metres away....could indulge in a tipple as we had no driving to do :) Loved the balcony in our 'country view' room....amazed and delighted by the large quantity of swallows buzzing around us in the morning ! Enjoyed the use of the indoor pool.
Review 94:The swimming pool on the roof was open between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. - just when I was roaming around the island of Gozo. So my plans for an evening swim didn't work out.
Review 95:As I booked it I didn't realize it's the only hotel in town. Quite comfortable, not that far away from the bus terminus. Very efficient air conditioning in the room. A very pleasant stay for those who do not want to spend their days in the hotel, but need a nice place to spend the night.
Review 96:Breakfast, eggs like rubber, sausages bit bigger than cocktail sausages, bacon wafer thin and limp, and the croissants were burnt.
Review 97:Stopped purely as a short trip from holiday in malta. Location was ideal for the centre of Gozo. Staff were brilliant as we were able to leave the bags at the hotel while exploring the island.
Review 98:Too many People for size of hotel. The Pool was small, the deckshairs old and very uncomfortable. Also the Food was Bad quality and tasted horrible.
Review 99:The room was ok.
Review 100:the hotel was quite and clean and also its location was centralised. rooms were impeccable and the bed was comfortable. we will come again to the same hotel next time.
Review 101:Nothing to dislike about the Downtown if you are expecting basic, clean accommodation.
Review 102:The Downtown is ideally placed in the centre of Victoria for anyone wanting to stay a couple of nights while conducting business or shopping in the city. Amenities are basic but good
Review 103:Our air conditioner was on a fixed setting with no sleep mode so it was too loud to sleep with on or too hot and humid to sleep with it off, So it was hard to get any sleep. This was the only thing that let the hotel down.
Review 104:Location, Comfort, Rooftop pool, Breakfast.
Review 105:Very poor breakfast, wifi doesn't work well. Bathroom could be cleaner.
Review 106:Location is perfect, hotel is situated in the city center of Victoria, just in the middle of Gozo, so it is close to everywhere. Free wifi. Swimmingpool on the roof of the hotel.
Review 107:my bed , hard and uncomfortable. The food was not good. same soup on both nights. rest of the food was not hot and poor quality. near by resturants were much better .
Review 108:My room was nice but the bed let it down. Very uncomfortable and hard.
Review 109:breakfast time could start earlier.?? in future the hotel might lose country view rooms
Review 110:staff accommodated demands polite simply great, healthy breakfast was available. the room, all hotel was clean
Review 111:every thing you could not get a better hotel or better staff meals were great accommodation was great and very central bus station town center what more could you ask for
Review 112:Staff needs to adopt the 'service with a smile' attitude. Roof pool is almost useless since it is surrounded by cooking oil odours coming out of the kitchen's extractors
Review 113:Some rooms are on a central air shaft that mysteriously has a roof on it. Customers in other rooms smoke out their windows causing the smoke to enter other rooms through the bathroom air vents. The smell of ashtray permeates.
Review 114:The hotel runs a bus out to the beaches which was great.
Review 115:What i did not like is the brakfast, it was good but i preferd that if it was served by a kitchen helper or chef direcet from the pan to the plate especialy for the frid egg,and not just left there and kept warm. Just in my opinion.
Review 116:I was very pleased with receptionest that was waiting for me to arrive ive booked the hotel lateley @ about 19.00 and i irrived at 23.00, iv found the room key waiting for me with out any delay.
Review 117:View from our room
Review 118:The room was tidy and nice. The bedroom had an en suite. The staff was very helpful. The lady gave me good advice where to go to swim. We had maintenance problems in the bathroom and they were quick to fix it.
Review 119:Each day this excellent tourist hotel, offers excursions to various beaches on Gozo, if you do not have your own car. The staff is very good til guide you to the exsiting experiences.
Review 120:Breakfast. I'd rather go to eat in town. What has to be done to make coffee taste like this? Both, me and husband found bed mattresses uncomfortable (too hard), but it can also be matter of habit.
Review 121:We found this hotel nice for that price at high season as booked it just 30 min. prior arrival. Staff - nice. Child liked pool on the roof. We left this hotel with no hard feelings.
Review 122:it takes 10 minuts to walk to city centre
Review 123:comfy room, quite big bathroom, nice pool, delicious breakfast, good and cheap restaurant, helpfull staff!! we were really satisfied!!
Review 124:The hotel staff seemed a little reserved in communicating with guests, which came across as a bit unfriendly even if it wasn't meant to be so. The lifts were very slow. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room.
Review 125:The food from the restaurant was very generous in the portions and also tasty. The cafe served delicious cakes and coffees too. The pool on the roof was small but had plenty of space around it and sunbeds to relax, and was good for a cool down in the hot weather. The hotel had a shuttle service to the beach resorts on Gozo and the driver was very friendly in describing the island.
Review 126:Its a nice hotel quite and very clean the food was very good and for children ots good because they have a playing area i really cant wait to go again
Review 127:Not a complaint but I would appreciate if the soap dispenser was placed a bit lower for the bath users :) I prefer liquid soap from the soap bar also supplied and it was a bit inconvenient to stand up each time for soap.
Review 128:The cleanliness and comfort. Value for money. Could smell the cleanliness on arrival
Review 129:The outside needs a clean up nothing major just a tidy up maybe some new plants cats not nice when eating outside
Review 130:The staff very friendly location very central food good
Review 131:The only thing that we did not like was the breakfast as it was limited in choice.
Review 132:We really enjoyed the time at Downtown Hotel... Next time we will visit Gozo we will reconsider staying at the hotel.
Review 133:- In terms of Rabat itself the location is a bit uncomfortable, you need to walk a bit to the citadel and cross some roads with lots of traffic (though it's still calmer than Malta) - The staff wasn't that impressive, some were nice but others a bit less sympathetic. - Most of the time the internet wasn't working in the room
Review 134:+ It's good there's now a hotel in Rabat (Victoria), it's so central to the island, you can get anywhere in a short time with the new buses. + The hotel was clean and the room nice, we didn't have windows to the outside so there were for once no mosquitoes + Wifi in public area worked well, sometimes in the room as well and without charge (though I had thought it'd cost) + Great views from the rooftop where there's a pool, very nice to sit and read and swim and sunbathe there for a while. + We got a free book about walks in Gozo from one of the receptionists.
