Review 1:your advert said price in pounds price in euro or card payment .wally would only accept euros in cash.needs to be clearly explained in advert
Review 2:wally the owner great fun and great company
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:We had a lovely two days in Belgium on our way back to the Tunnel from The Alps. Wally, the owner is a real character and has some great tales and enjoys talking with his customers. He's a big Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis fan and got our girls in stage with him and sang us a couple if songs. The hotel is the old France / Belgium border custom house and Wally lowered the old border barrier for us before our bike ride on the second day. Our family room was great - a double and bunks, table and chairs and a fridge making self-catering possible. Breakfast was great and Wally made some omelette with his own eggs. Lots of bread, ham, cheese and coffee. A perfect stop off for the channel ports and even better if you have bikes - some great routes in peaceful countryside and minimal traffic. We'll definitely come again! Secure parking for bikes a bonus too.
Review 5:Use N050 49.372 E 02 40.152, it will take you to a field on one side and houses on the other facing up hill, do a U turn and go back 100m, the Hotel is on the corner with small signs. Let Wally sing you a song or 2 and all will be fine, The hotel has no card machine so take cash, very enjoyable however the small town has no facilitates, the free hotel car park is opposite the hotel surrounded by green fences, only 15 min drive from the Menin gate.
Review 6:I wasn't please by the welcome we got. It was totally shambolic anddisorderly. It was attempted to be friendly but it seemed unprofessionaland took a long time to happen, and we weren't sure if Wally wassober or not.
Review 7:Location was great for Ypres and Dunkirk. Countrified and beautiful. Itwas like small town usa in europe
Review 8:It would have been nice to have had a kettle and tea/coffee making equipment in our room.
Review 9:Very friendly and accommodating host. Very knowledgeable about local area/attractions and war graves etc. The host doubles as a very good Elvis tribute act - good entertainment.
Review 10:"Wally" the owner of the property was not available by phone and he did not answer or return calls. When we finally found the correct property he did not seem at all bothered and was very disinterested in us and our plight. When we arrived at the address on the web site it was locked up and deserted which after a long day on a bike was very annoying and unsatisfactory. After calling Booking.com on a broken line which failed we only found the address on a scrap of paper on a notice board I had used to get out of the wind. We were asked to pay in cash though there was no notification of this on the web site. We only just had enough cash to settle thge bill. I would not recommend this property to anybody and it was very expensive for what it provided.
Review 11:Wifi signal was a bit weak.
Review 12:Wally, the owner of the hotel is one of those 'bright characters' that life throws at you. We were made to feel extremely welcome, this hotel offers something that larger chains could not. Our visit was a short one, but we will definately return. Excellent welcome and comfortable.
Review 13:A little far outside of Poperinge but would come back again.
Review 14:Our host could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. If you stay here make sure you visit the bar as this is an old customs post and still has a cell in the bar and the border post barrier outside. Lots of memorabilia inside to look at. Host does a wonderful selection of songs (mostly Elvis) but did not disturb us as we enjoyed his singing and has plenty of information about the area.
Review 15:Myself and my extended family stayed there last weekend we had several rooms and found it to be an excellent hotel the owner Wally is a character (in a good way) We had a small mix up with one of the rooms but Wally and Patricia sorted it out and I can't rate them highly enough. I would recommend a visit to Wallys farm it has a great atmosphere and although we didn't eat there the food looked delicious.
Review 16:Everything - no one to greet us when we arrived - place was locked & deserted - when we did get in there was no hot water first night, no bar ( as advertised), place was empty apart from us most of the time, no wi-fi, advert boasted 'soundproof rooms' yet people furniture moving/cleaning in other rooms kept us awake into the early hours. On line photos and descriptions do not live up to the reality of this place. Cold, uncomfortable and unwelcoming - and not that cheap either.
Review 17:First night was rather noisy with large trucks or combines, although the road is not very busy, but enough to disturb sleep. We asked to change rooms, which we were able to do, and the following two nights were better.
Review 18:The owner, Wally, is quite a character, very helpful and friendly and proud to show you around the ex Customs Post on the old border. Ideal for visiting Commonwealth War Grave sites etc. Five minutes from Poperinge and short distance to Ypres. Very fair, as we only had continental breakfast, they charged only for 2 days instead of 3.
Review 19:The hotel is on a semi busy road so it is noisy at night with lorries.
Review 20:The proprietor cooked eggs and bacon for breakfast. The hotel is an ex customs house so it has interesting artefacts in the custom house next door.
Review 21:put physical address into sat nav, which took us to 'wally's farm' b&b in fact was several hundred metres down the road (blink and you would miss it) enclosed carpark opposite. luckily bumped into owner of b&b at the 'farm' and she directed us to the property. no tea/coffee making facilities. quite basic and smelt of degrading plastic floor. although i told her we had booked via you we were charged 93 euros which was much more that some 4* hotels we had booked via you and stayed in a day or two before. wrb.......wouldn't rush back
Review 22:booked via booking.com but couldn't print out as it was the night before out stay. charming owner. hairdryer in bathroom. the owner (husband) performs 'elvis songs' in a beautifully converted barn at the farm and they serve food and beverages.
Review 23:The road is unexpectedly noisy, given its apparently marginal location.
Review 24:Excellent restoration of a former customhouse, that managed to keep the charm of past days.
Review 25:Leaving before we saw Wally singing Elvis. We will return.
Review 26:Wally, what a fantastic bloke, wish all hoteliers were this welcoming and accommodating. nothing was too much trouble, a real fixer.
Review 27:Personal touch and homely feel. Greeted by the owner Wally and made to feel very welcome.
Review 28:Wifi not great
Review 29:We were greeted by Wally the owner ... What a character!!!! The room was pleasant and comfortable the breakfast was perfect.
Review 30:Wally the innkeeper is a colorful friendly man. He sang Elvis song to us in his bar. An evening to remember.
Review 31:Breakfast only average -- but very approachable staff!
Review 32:The manager- Wally, very friendly , serenades guests! In Elvis style- good
Review 33:just a bit untidy.
Review 34:Nice friendly chap who runs things.
Review 35:the owner of the hotel is very kind
Review 36:Welcome, the breakfast, the friendliness and the quirkiness. Wonderful
Review 37:Nothing! Everything was great.
Review 38:All of it! Great small hotel. As it turns out, it was an old customs building, which went useless when there became EU. The owner- Wally is a great man who is always ready to help. He has a museum ow customs service right in the hotel and gave us a tour. It was very pleasant. I will definitely recommend this hotel for everyone.
Review 39:Water in shower was only luke warm.
Review 40:Very friendly hotel owner. Fridge in room which was useful. Not much in town of Abbele, so you would have to travel to Poperinge to get evening meal. Owner not there when we arrived, but a phone call and he arrived minutes later. Showed us around the museum, because this used to be the old Customs House.
Review 41:We rate the location as only fair because it is completely urban. It is however extremely convenient both for ferries and for visiting battlefields and military cemeteries.
Review 42:An extremely pleasant and comfortable place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast excellent, though unfortunately we chose to stay on both occasions on the one day when the restaurant was closed, so were unable to sample that. Patricia could not have looked after us better.
Review 43:Unfortunately there was nobody at the hotel to greet us when we arrived, but a telephone call to the hotel number and the owner arrived in minutes.
Review 44:We stayed in a family room which was a very good size for two adults and two children under 8 years, the room was clean & warm and the beds were very comfortable. We were asked what time we would like breakfast, which was freshly cooked to order, and excellent, and there was also plenty of choice if you wanted continental. Our grandchildren asked if we could stay there again, which is an endorsement in itself, and when we visit the area again we will certainly do.
Review 45:Quirky hotel that has kept its character of being an former customs post, right on the French-Belgian border. Wally, the owner is also quite a character. The village of Abele has a fantastic tea room attached to the Boulangerie 2 minutes walk away from the hotel with among the best Belgian waffles I've tasted...!
Review 46:Make sure you call them before you arrive
Review 47:Wally's restaurant is fantastic, best evening of our trip. Wally sings Elvis' songs on Fridays and Saturdays only 500m from the hotel. The food is very tasty and there is a large selection of beers, including St Bernardus 8 on tap. Excellent! The hotel is located in the former customs house, you can see France by the window... very interesting experience. We are returning next year to attend the full concert on Sunday.
Review 48:Patty and Wally were great hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed their BBQ nights at their farm with good food and entertainment. There was plenty to choose from at breakfast and very reasonably priced. Plenty of places of interest and it makes a good base. The rooms were comfortable and very clean.
Review 49:Nothing. It was exactly as described on the website. It was not a bland corporate hotel and was not five star but we loved staying there.
Review 50:Very quirky hotel (in old Customs House). Lovely conversion. Rooms clean and tidy. Breakfast area and outside patio lovely. Staff very friendly.
Review 51:The address given is nowhere near the actual hotel which is a pain to find and adds about an hour onto your journey The description says there is a bar there. That is not true, and means there is nowhere nearby to eat or drink. The hotel is not actually near the town of poperinge, you have to drive ages to get there. Bit like walking down the decks of the Mary celeste there. breakfast is not included. All the reviews rave about the owner- we were just dumped there and told "there's a fridge with beer, if you want one you can pay tomorrow" . The hotel has no atmosphere, like a detention centre without any gimmick. It's cheap ish but not good.
Review 52:Comfy beds. Clean. Nice lady. Secure parking.
Review 53:Wi-fi was temperamental. Some electric sockets didn't take adaptors.
Review 54:Good location. The town of Poperinge nearby was nice. The hotel owner is an Elvis impersonator, quirky but fun. Don't let that put you off. They were lovely people. Breakfast was nice. Good secure parking.
Review 55:The address of the hotel was the owners home address and not the hotel address of the hotel. This caused a little confusion in finding it.
Review 56:The rooms were very comfortable and very clean. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was typical continental and was always fresh, a good selection of meat and cheeses, various types of bread and preserves, pastries etc. Fruit juice, coffee and cereals also available.Very nice. Would definitely stay there again.
Review 57:Evening meal option was restricted to one choice.
Review 58:Comfortable, cheap, great breakfast, friendly owners.
Review 59:Nothing to moan about
Review 60:Great hotel great people great food great location I certainly will return here
Review 61:Very clean and comfortable, great showers and a very good breakfast including bacon and egg. Friendly hosts with a warm welcome.
Review 62:Wifi didn't work
Review 63:Late night check-in Clean Bathroom
