Reviews for Happy Guest House
Review 1:Nowhere to put your clothes in the room. Room looking straight into an office block so blinds need to be kept down the whole time. Little touches like a glass in the room for water would be nice. A couple of the plugs didn't work.
Review 2:The bed, pillows, cleanliness, bathroom, towels and best of all, very central location. It felt like a newly refurbished room with all mod cons. Really nice, warm welcome and helpful staff.
Review 3:Fabulous location, host and room. Beautifully designed and decorated. A joy for the senses! Breakfast was delicious and Sofie's recommendations of things to do and places to eat were fantastic. Absolutely recommended.
Review 4:just a note: a bit small rooms but cozy and i doesn't influence your impression in case you walk around the city all day long and you need a room just to sleep; steep ladder
Review 5:+Sophie is really kind and ready to help +the hotel is really nice +perfect location
Review 6:Rooms were beautifully decorated in a lovely minimal style. Cool but not for everyone.
Review 7:Sophie made my daughter and me feel right at home. She welcomed us in even though we were really early, gave us plenty of recommendations and prepared a yummy breakfast.
Review 8:Very steep stairs not a problem for us, but would be difficult with heavy luggage.
Review 9:Location, modern comfortable furnishings, superb breakfast and very pleasant people. Car parking close and reasonable.
Review 10:you need to know that there are quite steep stairs to lug your bag up, but they too are part of the charm. Also, I had to get up early and go to the train station. I was unable to find a paper map. That would be my only recommendation.
Review 11:It was stunning. Great use of space and super comfy bed. Friendly staff, yummy breakfast, great position... it was pretty much perfect.
Review 12:The narrow staircase is difficult to negotiate with suit cases.
Review 13:The location is great. Sophie is a wonderful and very helpful host. The room was beautiful and the breakfast was great.
Review 14:If you have heavy bags, note that there is no elevator.
Review 15:Sophie was amazingly helpful with many of the details of our trip! She made it much easier for us and reduced our stress, so we could be Happy!
Review 16:Unfortunately, there is no air conditioning, so you have the choice of a comfortable temperature with a lot street noise from the open windows, or a quiet but stuffy room. This probably isn't an issue in colder weather, but we were there in warm weather.
Review 17:The owner is lovely and helpful. The breakfast was very nice. Rooms are snug but well designed and comfortable unless you are traveling with a lot of stuff.
Review 18:Sophie was so lovely & helpful. The room is modern, comfortable, well-lit, and has everything we need (hair-dryer, kettle, writing desk...). We loved the beautiful breakfast!!
Review 19:Small building with small and a little bite dangerous steps.
Review 20:Tho owner was VERY friendly! Tho Location also is fine, about 5 minutes to Grand Place. New Building, very clean.
Review 21:Not really a negative but you need to be able to climb the narrow staircase to your room - take minimal luggage.
Review 22:Tastefully furnished compact modern accomodation of 4 rooms in a perfect location to explore Brussels by foot run by a lovely friendly young couple. Only 5 minutes walk away from Brussels central railway station.
Review 23:No elevator. But it's not a biiig problem.
Review 24:It's amazing! Near Grand Palace, just 7 minutes by foot. Sophie is so kind and welcoming. The breakfast is so delicious. And the room is comfortable and clean.
Review 25:Only minor details in this otherwise excellent B&B: the minimalist decor is modern and fine but there is little storage space for luggage and personal items. The shower floor is on a level with the rest of the small bathroom so you have to be careful not to flood it. On week days, there is trafffic noise so you may have to close the window. There is no lift and the stairs are narrow. That's no problem at all but you should know it.
Review 26:The staff was very friendly, well informed and organized. Everything went smoothly although nobody were there when we arrived late at night. Breakfast is a highlight with a "surprise" fresh juice that changes every day, delicious and partly homemade products.
Review 27:Steep and narrow stairs. For us wasn't really a problem, but if you don't like stairs make sure to ask for 1st of 2nd floor room. :)
Review 28:Right in center of Brussels, 2 minutes from the train station. The breakfast is good and fresh, with local products, but with to many sweet things for our taste. Still, they have the most amazing homemade chocolate! Sophie and Benoit are really nice and welcoming hosts. They have created a really beautiful place. The rooms are cozy and clean and the breakfast room is really beautiful. There is a nice collection of photo albums both in the breakfast area and in the rooms, which are perfect for rainy days or lazy evenings. :)
Review 29:We took the top room with a terasse and view. The view was actually out the window (but a really nice view), while the terasse was a 3 ft by 6 ft walled space that only the surrounding buildings could view, but did not have a view from it.
Review 30:Our hostess was great and the breakfast was a delight
Review 31:88 steep stairs to reach room at top floor. Not easy when you are older. The room, although very clean, was very small. Nowhere to unpack, no shelving and no hooks to hang things on.
Review 32:Clean,neat accomodation with a breakfast of local specialities. Good location for exploring Brussels.
Review 33:The only obstacle are the steep and narrow stairs - but they are clearly indicated in the hotel description so they did not come as a surprise.
Review 34:Very helpful staff, nice room, conveniently located close to the main city centre attractions but in a part of the city that is not so heavily effected by the usual crowds of tourists.
Review 35:Sophie made the stay brilliant. Very accommodating, open and generous. Breakfast was brilliant - way more food than we could possible eat and all of a high quality. Location is great for all main areas of Brussels and made sightseeing easy and even though it took many steps to get to, the room I had was light and bright and had everything you could need.
Review 36:Some noise from the street and hospital nearby, but makes sense given the central location,
Review 37:Sophie was wonderful! Very kind, and provided us with a nice breakfast. The room was very clean and modern. Located right in the heart of Brussels. Very nice place to stay to visit Brussells.
Review 38:Being only 4 rooms, there is only staff for limited hours. My TV was messed up. It was the only place I stayed that did not have a channel like BBC World or something where I could get news in English. Luckily I was only on the 1st floor but the stairs are very steep and a narrow stairway which is tough with luggage. I had to leave early (7:45) for a flight. The info in the room says b-fast starts at 7:30 but at check in she said 8:30. I asked if I could get something earlier. She agreed, and arrived around 7:30. When I pulled out my credit card to pay, she had already run the charge - apparently 10 days prior. I was shocked, and irritated since I wanted to pay with a different card that does not charge me foreign transaction fees. She claimed my confirmation said it would be charged 10 days in advance. When I looked later, the booking.com email just said it "may be charged in advance" and the emailed confirmation from the hotel actually said "Payement when you check-in: We request payment only at arrival when you check-in." I don't know if she was confused or actually lied. Additionally, this was the most expensive of 3 hotels I stayed at in Belgium and offered, by far, the least, as it was the smallest. It should not have been more than about 75-80 euros. I stayed nearby for about 90 euros and in Bruges for 95 Euros - both great small hotels, but this lesser place was 120 euros. It was cute but I would not stay here again.
Review 39:the room was cute. The actual block it was on was nothing, but it was very centrally located and convenient to sights, the main square, the Central Train station and more.
Review 40:It is a very special B&B - all about great taste in decor, textures and an attention to guests happiness I would say :) The design is unique - the space of the house is full of different art objects and unusual furniture and there is a collection of books and photoalbums that you are welcome to read.. The bed is so cosy and the towels are so soft that i felt pampered being there. The breakfast during your stay is a special event - Ben and Sofie are taking it seriously - Ben brings the best baguette you can imagine (as we were told it is from one of the top-3 bakeries in Brussels) and it is served with homemade chocolate paste, jams and so on.. There are also yougurt with fruits and granola, eggs, and more.. But for me the baguette was the thing that impressed me greatly.. Never had anything of such a quality. Also Ben was very helpful booking for me a restaurant on a busy saturday and helping me to look for spots I wanted to visit during the stay. Apart from it - the place has a great location - it is 5 minutes walk from the station (to the left from the entrance you take rue Duquesnoy). So it is very comfortable for late or early arrivals/departures.
Review 41:The place definitely has the right name! Sophie is super friendly and everything about the place made me happy. And the breakfast is impressive! I will come again!
Review 42:Not really bad - but the 4 flight climb to top floor room not for the unfit. But then again I am sure this was typical for all the area smaller, hotels. FYI - The view was worth it.
Review 43:Convenience to Gross Market and downtown. Great price.
Review 44:The street was a bit noisy with the window open.
Review 45:Sophie was very kind and very keen to provide excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble. She obviously loves to provide top quality food, such as cured ham and cheese (from a monastery), with home made juices and jams etc. Also excellent coffee. The guesthouse is stylishly furnished and very clean. We could leave our luggage there after our check-out time. The guesthouse is near all the attractions of the city centre.
Review 46:Everything was great.
Review 47:Great location, few minutes walk to Mannekin Pis and Grand Place. Very comfortable room. Fantastic breakfast with local specialities. Sophie was extremely kind, checking that Eurostar was still running despite a train strike, and lending us an umbrella for the day.
Review 48:While we didn't really need an elevator, I can see how folks with luggages would have some issues getting up the tight spiral stairs as there was no elevator in the premises. We counted 77 steps from the ground floor up to the 4th floor...not relaly all that much but I can see this being an issue for folks with limited mobility and heavy luggage. The rooms were small with limited storage/counter space to lay out clothes and the bathrooms were equally small. It can get a bit claustrophobic in there. Even though we were on the top floor, we can still hear street noise and some late partying crowd at night. There was an office building across the street from the room that has a partial view into the room...but we were mostly out during the day so this wasn't much of an issue.
Review 49:The guesthouse itself was excellently located mere steps away from the city center with shops and restaurants within a stone's throw away. We stayed in the room on the top floor (with a skylight that opened up to view of the Town Hall at Grote Markt and a small outdoor space, that was barely useable). Aside from the location, the place's best attribute was Sophie...she is the co-owner with her husband, the manager, the designer, and the chef for the property. A former architect and wedding planner, she does an excellent job in ensuring guests enjoyed they stay. Breakfast every morning was a treat with her homemade jams and yogurt. We loved mingling with other guests as we met guests from Switzerland, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, and Amsterdam during our stay.
Review 50:This wasn't a major problem in the room I was staying in because there was a window that opened to the back of the building, but if you're supersensitive to noise, there might be other rooms in which noise from the street would be an issue if you left the street-facing window open (which is something that's to be expected if you want to stay in the centre of the city). The windows are completely sound-proof though.
Review 51:It's a newly renovated small guesthouse (4 rooms in total) that is literally a 2 minute walk away from Grand Place. The manager is very helpful and friendly and even though it's a bit on the pricey side, it's well worth the money (at least for a short stay).
Review 52:On arrival sophie meet us and arranged parking, a map with recommended eating places and was she on the money. The breakfast was amazing with home made spreads absolutely beautiful
Review 53:There was nothing about the Happy Guesthouse that we didn't like.
Review 54:Superb breakfast, great location, unique building, fantastic local tips on where to go and what to see, really friendly owners.
Review 55:For an elder person like me the narrow stairs with heavy luggage was a challence, even the first floor was bit of a climb (luckily the staff helped with the suitcase).
Review 56:Lovely clean room, comfortable bed, near many 'tourist' spots. Nice lively neighborhood, and near by the central railway station with easy access to the airport
Review 57:There is no lift in the property, but the host offers herself to help with the bags. No problem at all if you're travelling light, but if you're traveling with heavy bags, asking for a room on the lower floors might be a good idea.
Review 58:The attention provided by Sophie, the host of Happy Guesthouse was outstanding. Before arriving I was asked the details of the logistics and any other particular needs. Check-in was fast and efficient, the room was thoroughly clean and very comfortable. Feels just like home! Breakfast was delicious and served with local products. Definitely will return to Happy Guesthouse. Congratulations for the outstanding service.
Review 59:We felt ourselves as loved and honored guests. Sophie, the Lady of this charming Hotel, host us warmly. She served us wonderful homemade breakfast, gave us a lot of valuable tips about the city, restaurants, and even abt local flea market ). Our rooms were very clean and comfortable, albeit small, that is understandable since Hotel located in old house in hard of Brussels. For us it was not a problem at all but guests with small children shall note that stairs in Hotel are steep and there is no lift. All historical places are around. Railway station is 5 min from Hotel.
Review 60:Sophie went out of her way to help us with suggestions for Brussels. Room large and bright. Breakfasts outstanding. Location central and an easy walk to most attractions and many restaurants.
Review 61:The rooms are at the streetside. It van be a little bit noisy.
Review 62:The staff is very friendly. Very nice interior. Very good breakfast with a lot if choices.
Review 63:We absolutely loved our stay at Happy Guesthouse. The location is very good. Especially we liked the hospitality from Sophie. Her breakfast was just amazing!!
Review 64:1. Bathroom door had no handles so no way of closing it. 2. Wish we could stay longer! :)
Review 65:1. Spacious, clean and modern bedroom. 2. Quality breakfast and great selection - pastries, yogurt, egg, ham, fruit, cereal, fresh orange juice, coffee - seriously all bases covered and more. 3. Friendly and helpful host - Thanks Sophia! 4. Comfortable bed! Had such a good sleep! 5. Guest extra surprises. 6. Great experience and stay
Review 66:We liked very much the personal and joyful information from Sophie and Benoit: this started our stay in Bruxelles up in a very positive way. And we loved the little, beautifully renovated and very central house. Different and very nice!
Review 67:1. No elevator to go to the 4th floor (but there is no space to add one :)
Review 68:1. Very clean and nicely decorated 2. Very friendly personnel. 3. Nice breakfast.
Review 69:The stairs to the room are very steep and narrow, would be difficult with large luggage. The location is on a busy road so was quite noisy, but we coped.
Review 70:The host Sophie was superb, went out of her way to help us with all our questions. She recommended places to visit and restaurants to eat at. The breakfast was served by her and was great. The bed was very comfy. The Guesthouse is clean and modern. The wifi was great too.
Review 71:Not a critisism but don't expect an elevator, this is an old building. If narrow stairs are a problem drop Sophie an email to discuss. I'd imagine that all the rooms are equally good so just ask for the first floor - it really is worth a stay if you can.
Review 72:A beautiful former shop from the fin de siecle in a very central location. Room was very clean and spacious. WiFi reception even at the top of the house was good (and its free). There's an ipod dock, a desk, plenty of sockets and fluffy towels! The bed was extremely comfortable and being at the top of ther house I had a nice view out of the velux across to rooftops to Grand Place. Sophie was an exceptional host both before my arrival (emails detailing all the arrangements) and during my stay. Breakfast was substantial and I think that whatever breakfast you like, Sophie would have it covered. It was also nice to have some local delicacies to try. I've only ever had savoury French Toast and had never tried the sweet version but Sophie's Pain Perdu is almost worth a revisit alone!! Location is perfect, within less than 5 minutes walk you can be in Sablon or the Grand Place, within 10 minutes and you can make St Katerine or Louisa. Gare Central is very close if you need a train, the metro or a tram. I walked to the European Parliament in less than 20 minutes (so Schumann would be similar time) just because it was a nice morning but could have easily got there on the metro. Will definitely add this to my list of places to stay in Brussels!
Review 73:The host was fantastic! She did her best to answer our queries, recommend the secret nice local restaurants to us! The location is excellent! The breakfast is excellent! Highly recommended! Greetings from Edith and Kelvin ( Hong Kong)
Review 74:Rooms a bit small. Many flights of stairs. Breakfast ended a bit early.
Review 75:Very central. Easy acces to one of the main stations. All of the centre is a close walk. Beautiful rooms. Lovely host with great guidance and tips for brussels.
Review 76:There are a lot of stairs, perhaps if you're elderly check you can get level 1 before confirming.. didn't worry us at all but just to be aware.
Review 77:Service was amazing Room was clean and comfortable Great location near central station and a walk from the centre of brussels Good breakfast with some amazing home made treats! Made our stay!
Review 78:We loved our stay at the Happy Guesthouse in Brussels. The interior design is gorgeous, the breakfast was top notch, and the location was perfect! We had a fabulous stay, the owners are so kind and helpful, with great tips and hospitality. I would stay here again to explore more of Brussels, our trip seemed too short but this is definitely recommended for a relaxed, classy and highly enjoyable stay in Belgium's capital.
Review 79:Nothing!
Review 80:The host, Sophie, gave us lots of help about where to go and where to eat. It was beautiful accommodation in a great location. Breakfast was also very good.
Review 81:Narrow stairs could potentially be a problem if you're not very fit, but we were on the third floor and it wasn't a problem.
Review 82:Sophie was an excellent host, who gave lots of recommendations of what to do in the city, as well as helping us get to the airport when the trains were on strike! Breakfast was fantastic and was different both mornings - a selection of bread, pastries, eggs, ham, cheese, traditional Belgian treats and a freshly made glass of exciting fruit juice. Brilliant location, less than five minutes' walk from the central train station and the Grand Place. Our room had an iPod dock as well, and we could connect our devices via Bluetooth and play some Christmas songs in our room :-)
Review 83:Very warm, friendly and helpful host. Very Good location near the Grand Place and walking distance from the Central Train station. Excellent bed, nice shower. Lovely breakfast served in a relaxed, informal setting.
Review 84:The service, the comfort of the bed, the hot water in the shower, Breakfast was so yummy, The owner Sophie was lovely and so helpful with everything, went out of her way. So close to the centre of Brussels 2 minute walk to the square.
Review 85:Might be difficult to go upstairs 3 floors with a heavy suitcase. I was on the first floor and only had a small suitcase, so no problem. :-)
Review 86:beautiful stylish rooms. I want my own bedroom to look exactly like that!
Review 87:This is an old building and has no elevator, so that we have to carry luggage to the 4th floor. But the return is the beautiful view. The room was newly decorated, can still smell the paint.
Review 88:The location is best, very close to the historic center, and also near to Royal Gallery. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Our room is on the top level, and has invincible view of the church. Everything here is unforgettable, including the nice room, nice breakfast, and lovely Sophie!
Review 89:No problems at all. My room was on the top floor so some guests might have found access difficult.
Review 90:I was made very welcome despite a late arrival. Lovely room and an excellent breakfast. Outstanding accommodation.
Review 91:I was there two nights but my room wasn't serviced ; not sure if this was an oversight or not?
Review 92:Superb design is the standout feature of happy guest house.
Review 93:I genuinely liked everything! Next time, I would probably book a room onone of the first two floors. The 4th floor is a bit of a trek, but thenwe are a "mature" couple and it would likely not be an issuefor younger people. Regardless, we were really satisfied with the roomand our stay.
Review 94:First of all, Sophie is a gem! We arrived early before our room wasready. But, Sophie immediately stowed our luggage, gave us a map, andprovided detailed directions to places that weren't tourist traps. Her recommendations were very useful and we saw some areas of Brusselswe probably wouldn't have explored if she hadn't taken the timeto point them out. The guesthouse is very conveniently located. Closeto the Grand Place, the grass market, Sabon area, and manyrestaurants/cafes/pubs. Our room was very comfortable. Sophieadds little touches to the room to make it even more enjoyable -- likea few Belgian chocolates, fluffy towels, a kettle with coffee and tea, plus condiments. Sophie prepared and delivered a lovely breakfast forus the evening before we checked out because we had to leave early forthe airport the following morning. This was a surprise to us, as I hadonly briefly mentioned it when we booked the hotel. It was this'above and beyond' service that added so much to our stay! Wifiis also excellent. I would definitely stay at the Happy Guesthouseagain. Thanks Sophie!
Review 95:Nothing to mention
Review 96:Very friendly and accommodating. The location is good - just less than five minute walk to the central square. Lovely hostess, who was very welcoming and showed the best places to visit. The decor was beautiful and the room was very nice, tidy, with a great and super-comfortable bed. Breakfast and coffee were also very good with lots of small pretty touches. Everything was just perfect, especially the owner and how she welcomes the guests, extremely kind and caring, and will do everything she can to make your stay a pleasure. Recommended!!! Would definitely go there again!!!
Review 97:Happy guest house is located in a central place and very near transport – Central Station.
