Reviews for B&B carpediem
Review 1:My wife, two teenage children (18 & 16) and I stayed in two rooms for four nights and we all agree the experience was faultless. From the fantastic breakfast, really comfortable rooms and common areas, great tours to Bruges and the Ypres Salient Battlefields which were all arranged through B&B Carpe Diem and the "can do, we are here to please" attitude of Jan and his two children Jane and Claus we were 100% satisfied and would highly recommend the property. There is a reason why they have such a high rating and that is because they deserve it. Ieper is a beautiful city and the location of the B&B is perfect being within a couple of minutes walk to either Menin Gate, town square, museums and cafes.
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:Made to feel very welcome by Jayne. Offered a coffee whilst she explained everything to us and as we wanted to attend ceremony at the Menin Gate and then eat she advised that we make a reservation. She recommended some restaurants and we were so grateful for this as everywhere was really busy. Delicious breakfast, comfy bed and secure parking at very reasonable cost. This bed and breakfast is a credit to the owners
Review 4:Lovely people could not have been more helpful, would have been nice if there was a soap rack in the shower and if they supplied a box of tissues, minor things but just slightly annoying, also tea making facilities in the room would have been great ,even though the owners made us a drink when they were around.
Review 5:We had pay 3euros for a flask of water which we had 3 nights so total was 6 euros for a flask of water; better if they had added a kettle to the room
Review 6:We were close to the Menin Gate
Review 7:The room was comfortable, the food delicious, the staff friendly. I loved the tour that we experience of the cemeteries. I loved the location, so close to Menin gate.
Review 8:Nothing.
Review 9:This is a fantastic B&B in the centre of Ypres and only 100 yards from the Menen Gate. Rooms are superb - parking is safe and secure in a nearby underground car park. The hosts are very informative about places to visit and the local eateries. First class service with an excellent breakfast. Would definitely return.
Review 10:Would recommend this B&B to everyone. Fantastic location, great friendly owners, beautiful rooms, dinner & breakfast was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble.Thankyou for making our stay very enjoyable. Hope to see you again one day.
Review 11:The only point was not realising that the entrance was via the hairdressers, but once found marvellous
Review 12:The owners made us very welcome, the room was delight very comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was perfect. The hotel organised a private tour of the battlefields, which was very enjoyable followed by them recommending further places to visit. We will come back if they can fit us in, as I am sure the hotel will be very popular with many guests returning.
Review 13:Exceptional service, wonderful hosts, nothing was too much trouble. All the amenities are of a high standard and the rooms are beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The breakfast is outstanding and one of the best that we have had on our travels. Perfect location, just down the street from Menin Gate. Attention to detail can't be faulted.
Review 14:Excellent location and fantastic service, advice and hospitality from the proprietors - Jan, Klaus and Jane. All went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and well informed about the surrounding area.
Review 15:Minor points but there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and whilst not an issue, having to ring to be let back in on an evening
Review 16:Staff excellent, great breakfast, perfect location for both menin gate and the cloth hall (with a great bar opposite)
Review 17:Nothing!
Review 18:Such a lovely place to stay ... from the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome. I had so much room and loved the decore. The staff were informative and professional - they really went out of their way to make the stay special. I have already recommended the place to many friends and would definitely stay there again.
Review 19:You couldn't not like anything.
Review 20:Best b & b I've ever stayed at!! Everything was perfect.. Klass couldn't of been more helpful if he tried, we can't wait to book again.
Review 21:Accessing through the hair salon threw me a bit. Also, price a bit steep in general, but rooms in Ypres are in such high demand...
Review 22:The location and staff
Review 23:We loved the location. It was a short walk to anywhere we needed to go. The welcome that the Deknock family extended us was wonderful. Our room was large, very well appointed with a lovely terrace overlooking the garden. Breakfasts were fabulous...an incredible selection of cereals, cheeses, meats, pastries, and eggs with bacon cooked perfectly to personal order. Many thanks to Jan, Klaas, and Janne for all their care and attention in ensuring our five night stay at Carpe Diem and Ieper was so delightful.
Review 24:Everything! A lovely quirky hotel! Staff very friendly and helpful! Great value for money, would defiantly stay again, location is fab! Just an all round amazing experience!
Review 25:This little B&B is the standard all B&B's should aim for ! They go out of their way with little extras , such as free welcome drink , personal tours of the battlefields and areas around Ypres, gorgeous breakfasts , DVD players & DVD library in your room and super clean surroundings . It's a lovely little home from home and I wish them every success in their B&B adventure .
Review 26:We stayed for 3 nights and the rooms were never serviced, had to ask for clean towels and replacement toiletries.
Review 27:Staff were very friendly and attentive. Great breakfast. No problems with us coming in late at night. Good secure parking for our motorbikes.
Review 28:No privacy in the bathroom from the bedroom; no door. We could hear people in the corridor. Entry to the B & B is through their hair salon. We felt a little intrusive.
Review 29:Very close to Menin gate. And the main square. We were at the back and it was very quiet. Very modern bathroom. Plenty of plug sockets. Eggs and bacon!
Review 30:Nothing to dislike at all.
Review 31:Warm welcome from Klaas. Spacious, clean and well-equipped room. Central location. Secure reasonably-priced parking nearby. Wonderful breakfast.
Review 32:Carpe Diem is a hidden gem right in the main street of Ypres,50 meters from the magnificent Menin Gate The hosts Klauss and Charlotte are delightful and the room was filled with old world charm and selected antique Belgian furniture. There is something special about this property and it has tremendous appeal, we will be back!
Review 33:Would prefer bathroom with a door - Room 1 has separate toilet and shower; In room 2 where we stayed 2 nights later, the toilet and shower are in the bedroom.
Review 34:Very friendly welcoming staff Comfortable bed Spacious room
Review 35:Close to everything. Fantastic facilities. Our room was superb and Klaas was a wonderful host who was extremely helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of choice. We would definately return here
Review 36:Nothing to dislike
Review 37:Lovely room with plenty of space. Spotlessly clean. Room had all you needed, free wi-fi, TV with DVD, DVDs to borrow. Comfy bed, pillows and quilt. Great location, very close to Menin Gate and Cloth House Museum and town square. Staff fantastic, very friendly, offer information on places to eat, where to watch Last Post from etc. Breakfast great, fresh eggs and bacon and full continental with good choice of meats, cheese and croissants plus lots more. Best B & B we have ever stayed in.
Review 38:We had received confirmation of having booked a room at the back overlooking the garden. When we arrived this was not available so we were in one of 2 rooms overlooking the main street which had quite a lot of noise from passing traffic. The bathroom in the room is not separate - only a partition with no door. Quality of towels lets the room down.
Review 39:Location very close to the Menin gate and everything there is to see in the City. Good advice about attending the last post.
Review 40:The fact that we couldn't stay longer!!
Review 41:Lovely welcome, very friendly and helpful with lots of tips for things to do. Excellent room and breakfast. Used the booked parking which was a godsend as we had a car full!
Review 42:we were there over a very hot weekend and had no alternative bed covers to the heavy dueve with all the windows open we were eatan by mosquitos.
Review 43:Friendly staff, location, breakfast, room
Review 44:Nothing to dislike.
Review 45:The warmest welcome we've ever received from a B & B. The hospitality continued for the duration of our stay. Lovely people who genuinely want to do all they can to ensure you have a great time. Overall I would say the best presented and run B & B we've stopped in.
Review 46:The accommodation was extremely tasteful, fresh and welcoming. The staff were incredibly friendly and the atmosphere at breakfast great. The location is excellent.
Review 47:Breakfast was amazing especially the poached eggs:-) Beautiful decor, attention to detail and loved the balcony. Closeness to mennin gate and town square. Would visit again.
Review 48:We loved everything about this B&B. We were on the 3rd floor but Jane and Klass carried our luggage up and down for us. It would be difficult for people with walking difficulties. We were amazed to book a room and get 2 (lounge area) plus big bathroom and separate toilet.
Review 49:Klaas & Jane were so lovely. It was like home from home ! The breakfast was superb ...... bacon & eggs !!!! And it lasted all day, we were not hungry until the evening . We would be more than happy to recommend this b&b to anyone & ... thankyou xxxxxx
Review 50:Fantastic location, very friendly, helpful owners, wonderful "apartment" - separate sitting room! Delicious breakfast - with the option of bacon & eggs if wished, home made jams. It was perfect!!!
Review 51:For anyone considering staying in Leper this B&B is a must,Yes it is quirky but the comfort and welcome is fantastic.Top marks for the rooms, breakfast and hospitality.A business that is truly family run and run well.Klaus the son made us an evening meal one night at a very reasonable price and it was a pleasure, afterwards we relaxed in the garden with a coffee and a beer. The highlight of our stay was when Jan the father took us on a private guided tour of the Battlefields an Commonwealth Cemeteries, his knowledge was vast. The tour lasted about 6 hours and was half the cost of tours advertised in the City. Thank you Jan and family you made our holiday. and good luck for the future.
Review 52:The only comment I have it that it would help to have a sign on the outside of the entrance which is through a hairdresser's salon and a note on the website that tells you the same.
Review 53:Fabulous place, very welcoming and friendly, superb room beautifully furnished.
Review 54:Everything was really lovely!
Review 55:A fantastic welcome from Janne and both she and Klaas made sure we had a delicious breakfast each day. Walking through the hairdresser's shop to reach it was unusual but we couldn't have wished for a more perfect place to stay in lovely Ypres.
Review 56:Friendly and helpful owners gave us a warm welcome and information about the area. Central location, secure parking, Rooms very comfortable and clean. Breakfast excellent
Review 57:Couldn't stay longer unfortunately was such a great place
Review 58:From the minute we got there the welcome and friendliness was brilliant. Facilities and cleanliness was awesome . But the breakfasts my word lets just say you don't go hungry .
Review 59:Jan and Klauss could not have been more welcoming! We had a great 4 hour+ tour with Jan of several war sites/memorials. Klauss kindly drove us to the train station with a packed lunch!! Perfect location - a stones throw from the Menin Gate.
Review 60:The staircase seemed tricky, as I walk with sticks or a walker, but I was able to get up and my walker was carried up for me. Not for a wheelchair user, though.
Review 61:We had a warm welcome and were helped in many ways: information, booking a restaurant, climbing the circular staircase. The room was stunning, the bathroom excellent for me, with my limited mobility. The breakfast was most enjoyable, with a good choice of food and several home-made jams.
Review 62:Minutes from the Menin Gate and main square. We had one floor of the property with a comfortable double bedroom, large bathroom with separate shower, a bunk room and a large lounge overlooking the street. Jane was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 63:The location is superb. We were extended a wonderful welcome, with a comprehensive overview of local attractions and facilities. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Will revisit on a future trip and will recommend to friends.
Review 64:Nothing bad to say at all.
Review 65:Really fabulous location in the centre of Ypres. Great, friendly owners who couldn't have been more helpful. Accommodation very clean and decor amazing. No hesitation in recommending it.
Review 66:Not really a problem but there is some traffic noise but didn't affect our enjoyment.
Review 67:Very helpful staff, lovely room and secure u dee ground parking for 5 Euros per day.
Review 68:The B&B Carpedium is the friendliest, most comfortable well appointed premises we have ever visited. Words cannot express how good this establishment is. Thank you
Review 69:Everything! The staff, location, facilities, comfort and the list could go on. We can honestly say this is the best B&B we have stayed in by far.
Review 70:The owner took us on a guided tour of WWI sites and Tyne Cot Cemetery. They also booked a table for us at a local restaurant as they did not have one on site.
Review 71:This isn't a bad point more of a hint as the entrance to the property is through a hairdressers which is not a problem , but when you are looking for a B&B it makes it a little harder to find.
Review 72:The staff were very good and welcoming and the room was comfortable although the toilet was in the room with only a screen to offer privacy but as I was alone it wasn't an issue for me. The couple I was with on the other hand had an apartment and were extremely happy .
Review 73:This B&B is located just a few steps from the Menin Gate. It is entered thru a well marked Hair Salon with most friendly stylists directing you to the back where you enter a very nice reception and breakfast area. The owners are so gracious and helpful and do everything they can to make your stay a pleasant experience. The rooms are very nicely decorated and the beds are very comfortable. The location cannot be beat. It is near everything of importance in Ypres. They have reserved parking in a nearby location which is very easy to find. The breakfast bar is well stocked and a hot breakfast of eggs and bacon are offered. We were certainly glad that we choose this B&B and highly recommend it to others.
Review 74:Not applicable
Review 75:The warmth of all three of the family. Nothing was too much for them, from the first location of parking (splendid), the tour of the area around Ieper, to attention to every detail.
Review 76:The staff was thoroughly helpful, the buffet breakfast offered plenty of choice, and the location is only a few steps from the town centre and the Menin Gate.
Review 77:There is nothing at all to dislike .
Review 78:This family run business is exceptional. You feel like you are staying with friends but it is very professional also. Very warm welcome, great explanation of stay , places to eat , things to see in the area . A car park was arranged for us for 5 euros . Breakfast was lovely . And the location perfect ( Menin gate just a few strides down the street )This has been our favourite accomodation in all of Europe . Thanks team Deknock !
Review 79:My next destination was Brugge and although I had purchased a train ticket I was talked into travelling there with the owner as he was going to a town nearby. I not only got dropped off at my next hotel I also got a tour of Brugge first. That extra effort sums up my stay perfectly,I arrived a guest and left as a friend
Review 80:Staff did not warn us (though they were in email contact with us before our arrival) that there was an international running race occurring on the day we arrived. We spent hours trying to get into the town and our hotel.
Review 81:We could only stay for one night, however i have promised to come back again and will recommend Carpe Diem B&B to all my family and friends that will be travelling this way. Klaas and the team were so accommodating. The position of the B&B was right in the heat and very close walking distance to see the last post played at the Menin Gate and access to the main restaurants and wonderful chocolate stores. Klaas met us with a warm smile and a friendly welcome. We had wonderful conversations and it was lovely to get to know the host. He recommended a fantastic restaurant and made the booking for us to ensure our spot. His family also organise mini tours and very accommodating and helpful for what we were looking for, thank you Janne. The rooms are very spacious, extremely clean and very comfortable. Wifi and all facilities available in the rooms. They made you feel at home even though we are miles away. Highly recommend this accommodation and will be staying here again on another extended holiday in Belgium. I can not explain our satisfaction.
Review 82:Parking was a short distance away, a small inconvenience for such great lodging.
Review 83:Very friendly family run business. Most unique entrance I have experienced. If you experience difficulty with steps you may not want to stay here. Great place to stay.
Review 84:There were no luggage racks for the suitcases, so they sat on the floor, and a table or desk for the computer would be nice.
Review 85:Great location between Menen Bridge and the Flanders Fields Museum, and an excellent orientation by the owner, Jan.
Review 86:We were greeted and welcomed into Carpe Diem, making us feeling like we were very important. Our suite was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely beautiful with a huge variety, Klaus cooked eggs for us, the best omelette we have ever had. Carpe Diem, is extremely well located and is a great place to base yourself. We only wish we had longer there.
Review 87:We were welcomed by the owner and he couldn't do enough for us he was very friendly and was his son who made us a wonderful breakfast the following morning. Would highly recommend staying there.
Review 88:Nothing, but I wouldn't have been unhappy if there had been an elevator, but then it wouldn't have been the same.
Review 89:It's a tossup between the staff and the breakfast (which was done by Klaas, of the staff). This was the best B&B breakfast ever. But Klaas convinced me that he cared more about our comfort and enjoyment of Ypres than anything else. So you decide.
Review 90:No negatives. Us English like to make a cuppa in the room, but I am assured that the family are looking into this small detail
Review 91:Friendly welcome which extended throughout the stay. excellent location right near the Menin Gate. Lovely breakfast and Klaus made us a lovely Flemish stew in the evening. Would definitely recommend this hidden delight.
Review 92:Family run B&B, who clearly take great pride in the hospitality they provide which is first class. Lovely, clean, well appointed room. First class location yards from the Menen Gate and the town square and restaurants. Secure parking.
Review 93:The narrow spiral stair case to the accommodation is a little disappointing, considering everything else is just terrific.
Review 94:The staff were most welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Very close to the Menen Gate and eateries. Easy walk.
Review 95:There was nothing at all.
Review 96:Everything was excellent. Jan, Klaas, Jane, Charlotte and the hairdressing staff treated you like family. Nothing was too much trouble, they went out of their way to make you feel welcome .
Review 97:There was nothing we didn't like...
Review 98:Jan, Jane & Klaus were the most wonderful hosts, welcoming, open, helpful & very informative. Their B&B was very well equiped and homely. We felt as though we were visiting friends in their home.
Review 99:The friendliness and helpfulness of the owners really added to the experience. The underground parking facility is a great benefit, and the room & location of the hotel couldn't have been any better.
Review 100:Everything was fine. No negatives.
Review 101:Comfort all around you. The room was lovely with a large comfortable bed and a large shower cubicle in the bathroom. Good touches everywhere showing great thought in the design and layout of the room. The usual variety of food for breakfast was on offer and the owner is very good at poached eggs. He is an attentive host and booked a great restaurant for an evening meal. He was very patient answering all our questions and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him. Parking is at a premium in Ieper but he has the answer - underground secure parking for a few euros a night - a real bonus. This B&B is only some 200 metres from the Menen Gate.
Review 102:In the heart of Ypres, just metres from the Mennen Gate, this super Bed and Breakfast has first class facilities and extremely helpful, friendly owners. Breakfast fit for a king!
Review 103:Note that you have to enter the B&B through the hairdressers, although we didn't find this to be a problem.
Review 104:Great location between the main square and the Menin Gate. Wonderful friendly people; lovely comfortable room (huge!); excellent breakfast with homemade jams and fresh-cooked eggs. They couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was perfect! Secure parking close by was a bonus. We will definitely be returning.
Review 105:Would have like a a small table and 2 easy chairs in the room. This probably would not be an issue for others. However we were staying 5 nights. Very minor issue however!
Review 106:The service from the staff, particularly Klaas who went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. The position, just 30 metres from the Menin Gate The quality of the room and bathroom. Everything as it the pictures The breakfasts and dinner cooked by Klaas
Review 107:Nothing all good
Review 108:Klaas was a very welcoming host and made us feel very welcome and advised us on the best places to eat out for the evening. Very enjoyable stay. We will return again this year.
Review 109:Nothing adverse at all
Review 110:Klaas was welcoming and friendly as were his parents. Location superb for us- room very comfortable and breakfast again could not be faulted. I would recommend this quirky boutique B&B to anyone.
Review 111:We loved everything about this place and will visit again.
Review 112:Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. This hidden (literally) gem is an absolute delight. 1minute from Menin gate, 2 minutes from main square. Rooms are spacious, clean and everything you could want. En suite is bigger than most other B&B rooms. The icing on the cake? Without a doubt Jan, the owner, who cannot do enough for his guests; whether it is cooking breakfast to your personal taste or offering his considerable knowledge on the area. A gold standard establishment that we will be visiting again. If you require B&B in this area, look no further.
Review 113:From stepping in to walking out every little thing was of the highest order....excellent value, excellent location, excellent staff !! Superb highly recommend !!
Review 114:Fantastic B & B and excellent location and a real find. Excellent welcome from klaus and a Belgium beer and very helpful with any questions. Amazing breakfast all freshly prepared. Will stay again
