Reviews for Hotel Palace

Review 1:Having to park car on market place, wasn't told that a breakfast at 12 euro, had been added to the price of room and didn't have one on first night!!

Review 2:Good open access to building and room, good breakfast.

Review 3:initial welcome by an unkempt elderly male not very encouraging, gave us a room on second floor....no lift and dormer window only.

Review 4:good location, excellent breakfast, but note cost is on top of room fee.

Review 5:Hallway needed complete overall and double room stayed in needed some attention especially to decoration.

Review 6:Location good and bar still retained original features

Review 7:The bed was uncomfortably hard. Also, for the price (not in a particularly exiting town) I would have expected the breakfast to have been included. Breakfast was good, but a little expensive.

Review 8:Nice, clean room with great shower. Wifi reception was very good. The hotel was situated very close to the centre.

Review 9:The building layout does not allow for a lift to the upper floors, it didn't bother us, however the stairs do narrow the higher you go, so you do keep fit!

Review 10:This hotel has it's own character and charm. All the rooms are different and larger than anticipated. Staff are helpful and the breakfast is plentiful - we had a very pleasant stay.

Review 11:We received a warm welcome at this traditional hotel. Hotel was comfortable and convenient for centre of Poperinge. Buffet breakfast had a good selection of cereal, cold meat, yoghurt fruit and breads. We were also asked if we would like cooked eggs which arrived with bacon. Nice large bathroom. Poperinge is a small town with an excellent tourist office. There are at least 3 museums/places of interest to visit as well as bars and restaurants. Not as commercialised as nearby Ypres and has more of a community feel. Parking was available all over the town, however in the centre payable (1euro 50 cents for 3 hours) and time limited. Can park up after 3 in afternoon and buy ticket and you can stay til 9ish next morning.

Review 12:Shame, we weren't able to stay longer!

Review 13:We only spent a day here, but would love to go back. Plan was to bike outside of town to visit St. Sixtus Abbey and have the Westvleteren 12 beer (currently #1 in the world on beer advisor). Without navigation, the staff happily drew us a map and showed us where we could rent bikes to make the 6km trip outside of town. They even cooked up a breakfast spread for no more than a few euros the next day. Definitely recommend!

Review 14:There were no negatives.

Review 15:Staff were very friendly, and helpful. The bedroom comfortable and spacious with a terrific bathroom. The breakfast buffet was amazing and then we were offered a fry up as well.

Review 16:The stair carpet was dirty. The window of my room would not shut.

Review 17:The interior fabric of the building was authentic & interesting. The breakfast was good and substantial. I had a good night's sleep.

Review 18:Nothing

Review 19:Convenience to areas that we wanted to visit to remind two of my children about the selflessness of our grandparents and their colleagues. My opinion of the soldiers taking part in the war is that they were "Lions led by Donkeys".

Review 20:The lack of parking for hotel guests and the maximum of three hours at a time. Not enough tea coffee etc provided in room, had to ask at reception for this, no coffee supplied only tea bags were on offer.

Review 21:The location of the hotel was good.

Review 22:The receptionist when we arrived was not exactly welcoming. There is no lift and we put on the second floor. The stairs to the first floor were spiral, very narrow and quite steep. There was no offer of assistance with the luggage. The floors were very creaky and so you could hear every bump and footstep along the corridor and other floors. Tea/coffee making facilities provided? Yes. There's a kettle in the corridor for everyone to share. No plug point and/or cups and only fruit teas provided. Breakfast was very sparse for choice. We were asked if we wanted boiled eggs and waited nearly half an hour for the one egg to arrive. Not very good when there are two people. Checkout was the same as check-in, not exactly "thanks and call again", and not very helpful with directions. The hotel is not the easiest place to find either. It's in a one-way system and there is not really anywhere to park , although we did eventually find somewhere. Would we go again? Possibly, if there was nowhere else available. Take your own travel kettle.

Review 23:Ideally situated in Poperinge for tours around the 14-18 battlefields and cemeteries. Rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. Very good Wi-Fi and easy to connect. The shower was very good and toiletries provided. It should only be looked at as a base to tour and a clean place to put your head at night. Some reasonable restaurants nearby.

Review 24:Not the fault of the hotel - but a good job we didn't want a lie in as the drills from the builders opposite started very early!!

Review 25:Only stayed the one night but found the bed comfortable; room clean and excellent bathroom; room decor a little tired. Went out for dinner but the breakfast was amazing - a real banquet! Restaurant very nice. Hotel amazing as there are so many functions rooms, etc towards the back. Parking was metered outside but no problem.

Review 26:Sometimes difficult to find someone to serve in the bar for an early evening beer.

Review 27:Location in centre of town Interesting traditional type of hotel. Very good breakfast.

Review 28:No evening restaurant in the hotel since our last visit in 2003, and unless you order a meal in Poperinge by 2030 hours you go hungry: we were in time!

Review 29:Convenient overnight stop for crossing the channel.

Review 30:No car parking, except on road outside hotel, which is pay and display (40 cents per hour)

Review 31:Comfortable, clean and well maintained. Close to town centre shops and restaurants. Excellent value for money.

Review 32:Quality hotel.

Review 33:Nothing. All good

Review 34:Nice welcome and lovely breakfast. We love Poperinge and its beers.

Review 35:Central position in a lovely town

Review 36:Town centre with restaurants and bars nearby.

Review 40:Location

Review 41:Friendliness of staff particularly to known customers.

Review 42:Friendly staff, clean rooms, good breakfast.

Review 43:Nothing.

Review 44:The rooms were very clean and not over fussy. A quiet spot to stay, but near to the centre.

Review 45:very near centre...comfortable and clean..well decorated and furnished..very modern bathroom

Review 54:Had to share a table with a couple at breakfast

Review 55:located is a lovely town. Two minute walk to the smart square. Traditional feel throughout the hotel.

Review 56:Bath amenities (soap +shampoo) not regularly serviced Parking location (three + blocks)

Review 57:Breakfast Location Shower Bed Parking price (0.00)

Review 58:No free parking area nearby

Review 59:Good bathroom

Review 60:The location was excellent and accommodation very comfortable

Review 61:breakfast to dear

Review 62:most things

Review 63:The paper like sheets, no screen on the windows, the lack of elevator, and no phone or refrigerator.

Review 64:Apparently there were many beers available in the bar but sadly the bar never seemed to be open.

Review 65:Great location.

Review 66:breakfast/coffee not included in price, my preference is to have at least a kettle in the room for morning coffee

Review 67:Great quality mattresses and blackout curtains so I slept incredibly well, which is not normal for me in hotels. Free WiFi, modern decor and nice bathroom fittings all added to the positive experience. Location is right near the market square in the centre of town.

Review 68:No lift and steep steps

Review 69:The Hotel is well located near the main square where historical buildings and restaurants are.The area is quiet. It was easy to find a space to park the car just outside the Hotel on the road ( metered up to 6.00 pm). The staff was always very helpful and available. Good abundant breakfast . A very good and comfortable Hotel where to spend a few nights while visiting WW1 sites .We recommend it

Review 70:Dont park your car in the market square on a THURSDAY night as there is a Friday Market and your car may be towed away and you will paY 120 Euros to get it back

Review 71:Good all round hotel. Police very helpful to get my car back

Review 72:The WiFi signal was really weak in my room so I had to stay at the restaurant to use it.

Review 73:The owner/staff was really helpful. My room, bed and shower were very comfortable, nothing to complain. If I'm around I'll definitely stay there again.

Review 74:On arrival we were told our reservation had been cancelled but luckily there were rooms available. The street noise, mainly traffic, can be a problem with the window open.

Review 75:Great location with an interesting and well stocked bar.

Review 76:One lady in the breakfast room was a bit rude as it seemed to be an inconvenience to have tea instead of coffee, other than that all was great

Review 77:In a great location, fantastic price, breakfast was a good selection with lots there to choose from, room & facilities were fantastic, good space, warm, very clean & tidy, made to feel welcome

Review 78:There was no lift and we're a bit old to be lugging baggage up narrow stairs. Otherwise it was a very pleasant stay

Review 79:It is a really good location in the middle of town, a good kicking off point for WW1 battlefields tours or war graves visits. There was an excellent buffet style breakfast. The rooms were clean and comfortable and there was reliable, free wifi.

Review 80:No tea or coffee facilities. There is nothing I hate more than not to have a strong cup of coffee as soon as I wake up. No shampoo only 2 mini soap bars on arrival.

Review 81:location & comfort. A huge thank you for ironing husband's shirt & trousers for the Remembrance parade.

Review 82:Our television was too small for the size of the room, whereas our friend had a huge t.v in a smaller space.

Review 83:Our room was lovely and very spacious. Also very comfortable. Fantastic shower. Our friend had a top floor room which was comfortable and plenty of space.

Review 84:We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel and the time we were there found nothing to dislike.

Review 85:Location Check in fast Rooms clean and up to date

Review 86:No hot drink making facilities in the room, no lift for those carrying large cases. Also we asked for a double bed and got a twin bed.

Review 87:Good location for Ypres, right in the centre of Poperinge

Review 88:Everything was good, though a plan of the towns one way system to help locate the hotel is a good idea when planning a trip.

Review 89:THere was a really nice relaxed and friendly bar in the hotel with nice beers. The room was very clean and comfortable and the showeroom and toilet very nicely decorated. Good shower. We enjoyed being quite high up in the eaves. Breakfast room was beautifully decorated and relaxing and we ate very well. We would definately come back when we do some more family history. We parked in one of the many carparks - the town is really very nice.

Review 90:No lift, so it was a bit difficult to carry my suitcase up the stairs.

Review 91:The room was quite spacious (especially for Europe), even though theinterior was a bit dated. It was close to the main market, but farenough away that you did not get the noise at night. Very clean.

Review 92:Great location, car parking either outside for a nominal fee or free just around the corner. Staff helpful and friendly, room clean and nice big shower.

Review 93:Nothing to dislike

Review 94:The owner was lovely, worked hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. I rate the hotel, very highly. Great breakfast, motorcyclist friendly, clean, comfortable, great shower, free wi-fi and very welcoming.

Review 95:Breakfast too dear. Went along the road and had an excellent breakfastfor less than half the price

Review 96:Nice comfy rooms.situated in the middle of the town.

Review 97:No phone in room

Review 98:Extremely friendly receptionist/owner/waiter Value for money Excellent breakfast Great location to town square and the broader battlefield areas

Review 99:Location was excellent. Rooms were well appointed and much better than expected for the price. We were on motor bikes and were able to put them in secure parking at the premises

Review 100:The room key was so big and heavy. I know that is random, but I guess that is what comes with a hotel that isn't corporate. The hotel says it has free wi-fi everywhere but it mainly only works on the first floor lobby which is not that big and is right in front of the smoky bar. We were on the top floor so they need to make sure that if they advertise there is free wifi it needs to be available to all clients.

Review 101:The room was a decent size and the bathroom was nice and up to date.

Review 102:The smell of Cigarette smoke in the entrance hall, where people were smoking just outside the front door.

Review 103:The hotel had everything I needed for a trip to the WW1 battlefields. The staff (who were the owners)were warm and friendly and very helpfull. The bar was great to finish off the day. Breakfast was always good and had choices to suit. We didn't try the evening meal but, next time we will be trying it. I have no hesitation in recomending the hotel to anybody.

Review 104:No hotel car parking (?) Strangely, some feral youths about the town centre(?)

Review 105:Location, good choice buffet breakfast. Good bars + restaurants within easy walking Central for battlefields

Review 106:Strong smell of cigarette smoke throughout hotel. We went to Ypres for8pm Menin Gate & returned around 8.45pm for dinner. Apart from theChinese all the restaurants had stopped serving food.

Review 107:Hotel is central to town. A basic 2 star. Able to park outside. Thepeople of Poperinge were very kind & helpful to us

Review 108:Nothing!

Review 109:The landlord and Landlady were extremely pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was sumptious. We went for the WWI Connections and there was plenty to see. Town only 8 miles from Ypres. Hotel ideally situated 100 mtrs from lovely town centre. Nice eating places and very friendly people.

Review 110:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent choice at breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Ideal location for town centre. Great place to explore the hop growing areas and WW1 battlefields.

Review 111:The hotel was just right for our overnight visit to the beautiful area of Poperinge. More of a b&b feel with smaller rooms and many stairs depending on what floor you're on. The bathrooms were a very nice surprise, very new amenities and quite nice. The bed, pillows and comforter were very comfy. The downstairs pub was very quaint and nice as well. Overall, great experience. Poperinge was a great town with lots of history and beautiful farmlands surrounding it.

Review 112:There was no bedside light, only the main light which you had to switchon if you wanted to go to the loo in the night!

Review 113:Close to town centre yet fairly quiet. Very good Belgian beer bar inhotel itself.

Review 114:The owners were very friendly and helpful, the rooms spotless, bright and quiet; similarly the bathroom. Beds provided a good night's sleep. Parking outside on a Sunday evening was easy and free. The town itself is lovely and a great place either to stop for the historic sites or en route before or after crossing the Channel. We will certainly stay there again.

Review 115:No parking facilities nearby unless you pay. Breakfast - although areasonable selection, only one teaspoon to eat cereal, yoghurt andboiled egg. The owners are very unfriendly and not welcoming. We havestayed at least four times with the current owners but will notreturn again.

Review 116:The hotel is central to shops, cafes and bars in Poperinge and a goodbase for exploring the surrounding area.

Review 117:Closing early on Sunday !!!

Review 118:Good bar, good breakfast, centre of town, street parking, close to bars and restaurants. Nice clean room.

Review 119:it stank of cigarette smoke

Review 120:The rooms were immaculate as was the en suite

Review 121:No shower curtain in bathroom.....floor got flooded every time you had a shower...

Review 122:Good location. ...close to town centre....secure motorcycle parking

Review 123:No lift. Upper stairs steep.

Review 124:Excellent breakfast choices.

Review 125:front door locked Thursday afternoon

Review 126:good location efficient staff

Review 127:Good atmosphere

Review 128:Staff/owners very very helpful and obliging

Review 129:Good value for money. Excellent breakfast. Good base to discover the Ieper (Ypres) battlefields from
