Reviews for Hotel Amfora

Review 1:Nothing negative

Review 2:It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean and had an extremely comfortable large bed. In English terms breakfast appeared expensive but it is the first time I have seen smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on offer as well as cereal, yoghurt, cheese, ham and an assortment of breads. The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. Would definitely visit again.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:From the moment we arrived we were made feel right at home. All the staff were fluent in English which made asking for things so very easy. I would definitely come here again.

Review 5:Dated internal bathroom (no window) and facilities; non-refundable deposit taken at booking, additional city tax charges.

Review 6:Excellent location right in town centre, quiet room with lovely view at the back of the hotel, away from the front restaurant. Free wifi and nice toiletries, pleasant family-owners.

Review 7:We liked the friendly welcome and helpful local advice when we checked in.All of the staff were friendly and approachable. Our room had all the facilities expected plus its own little bit of charm which is rare in most hotels. We have been guests at the Amfora hotel and the Amfora guesthouse before and we are always sad when we have to leave.

Review 8:Right in the heart of the town, on the Grite Markt. Comfortable and friendly, we booked on on the way to our holiday and liked so much we booked again fir the journey home.

Review 9:Very convenient with nice outlook to the popular town square. The selection and quality of the menu was first class especially the fish. Very reasonable value. We would certainly go again.

Review 10:flakey wifi that was poor from the top floor, didn't work at all one morning. Shower screen fairly ineffective, lots of water got on the floor, resulting in a soaked bath mat.

Review 11:Centre of town, comfortable, large room

Review 12:Friendly helpful service, spacious room, delicious fresh breakfast. We had one meal in the restaurant. The food was delicious. The hosts helped us out with bike storage.

Review 13:Brilliant little hotel with very friendly staff. Would do all they could to accommodate and help out with anything. Also the restaurant serves fantastic reasonably priced food!

Review 14:Stayed here as near to war graves and not as busy as Ieper. Excellent position in the square with free car park a few mintes away. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. Food and drink good. Plan to go back!

Review 15:Very loud pop music was played outside (skating rink in square) for hours until about 11:30 PM. So ate elsewhere Very dim lighting and cool room prevented enjoyment of breakfast. Smoke smell (only) in toilet, hopefully fixed now.

Review 16:V Spacious room Friendly staff Excellent heating and hot water.

Review 17:The only downside is that, off season all the Bars and Restaurants in this little town square close one or two midweek nights each week. However, they alternate these nights and there is always somewhere nice to eat.

Review 18:A lovely little hotel with a bar and restaurant in keeping with the intimate atmosphere of the hotel itself. Meals were delicious and the staff were friendly and very helpful in every area throughout our stay. I particularly liked the fact that most of the original features of this lovely building were untouched when the building was converted into a hotel. The clever and tasteful use of glass makes the necessary modern extensions to the building seamless and takes nothing away from the fabric of the structure itself. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Review 19:We had a room with steps to the bathroom. It was a little less comfortable than our last stay.

Review 20:The hotel is extremely friendly and serves lovely food, both breakfast and dinner. The owners pay exceptional attention to their guests.

Review 21:Room is let down by disposable cups containing pre-measured lumps of coffee - no tea/coffee facilities would be better. The hotel bar/restaurant, like almost every other shop, bar, cafe & restaurant in Poperinge, closes at 9pm, even on Friday & Saturday. The town is pretty dead before that, but after 9pm it's deserted so we ended up watching TV in our room. This is a VERY quite place to stay if you have plans to get out and about (Ghent, Ypres, etc) but not a place to spend more than a couple of hours, or if you like any atmposphere. We had a room at the back and the smell of meat cooking first thing in the morning is horrible. It would also be noisy if anyone had been eating dinner or breakfast in the hotel restaurant (in the orangerie) but, luckily for us, it was deserted. Not the fault of the hotel, but we both got nasty mosquito bites in the night (in October).

Review 22:A very warm & friendly welcome. Lovely hotel in the pretty main square. Helpful advice on local attractions and parking nearby (free except between 2pm and 4pm). Nicely decorated and spacious room. Comfy bed. Nice big power shower. Comfortable public areas, including the terrace, but we didn't eat here because no one else was. An easy drive on good roads from Calais (about an hour).

Review 23:We never sleep in such a comfortable beds. They were so warm and pleasant that sleeping in them is one of the most awesome experience after visiting the lovely city. Simply perfect

Review 24:There are far too many stairs there and some steep to carry your luggage up. Bedrooms were lovely but some had stairs to the bathroom, not great in the middle of the night 111 Not suitable for people with walking and back problems.

Review 25:The location, the breakfast room and garden. They have more private dining room which look really special, love to eat there one day.

Review 26:The smell of beer and cigarette smoke, just like in an old pub, throughout the premises, the oil paintings, framed illustrations and profusion of bibelots in public areas and the rooms, green plastic bathroom, the limited menu. The place has potential to be excellent. The parking is definitely not as stated on the website on Fridays, when the local market takes over the square and the guests' cars are sent a fair distance away. There is almost nothing to watch on television for English language speakers.

Review 27:Location of the hotel is unbeatable. The staff are personable and genuinely hospitable. The building itself has not been spoilt.

Review 28:the staff were very helpful and accomodating, wifi was free, the room (#! at the back) was spacious and comfortable. The restaurant was excellent, also.

Review 29:We shared a single with two persons; but even for a single person the room would have been a tad on the cramped side; nothing to really detract from the enjoyment of the stay though.

Review 30:As usual the staff was helpful and considerate, reacting quickly to queries.

Review 31:Wifi signal too weak in our room (top floor), mattress very soft and felt worn out, breakfast too expensive

Review 32:free parking in front of the hotel, easy going and helpful staff

Review 33:14 euros for breakfast far to expensive.

Review 34:We had the deluxe double room , a good comfortable size room with a verynice bathroom recently done , tea and coffee making facilities . carpark not far away .The staff were very helpful . plenty of places to eatif you wish .

Review 35:Coffee tea making could be much better and fresh milk required to make tea or coffee in the rooms.

Review 36:Great location, friendly staff. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Review 37:Clean room

Review 38:No problems

Review 39:Great family run hotel. Good food and friendly staff.

Review 53:Having to leave, to head home.

Review 54:Welcoming and friendly staff. Food was excellent and a good choice, to suit all palates. A very relaxing bar area.

Review 61:food/beer/service

Review 62:We had just cycled 50KM in about two hours and arrived late at 2015 tired. Very friendly welcome and lovely evening meal. Will stay again.

Review 63:Parking arrangements

Review 64:Comfortable room and bed. Clean Good service at all times

Review 65:Breakfast poor and overpriced

Review 66:Evening meal excellent

Review 67:Friendly staff Central location on the Grote Markt Secure bicycle storage nearby

Review 68:Dinner menu a little limited.

Review 69:Very friendly staff. Comfortable rooms, beautiful bathroom. Breakfast excellent.

Review 70:The closures on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Not much choice for eating out.

Review 71:Extremely friendly and helpful owners and staff. Central for visiting battle fields from First World War. Beds extremely comfortable and rooms very well furnished with all that was required.

Review 72:Needs to be clearer that eggs at breakfast incur an additional cost

Review 73:It was convenient - right on the market place and because it was a weekend parking was easy. Room large and very attractive. Tea and coffee in room. Food delicious

Review 74:Bed was a little uncomfortable for what I'm used too.

Review 75:Very helpful and friendly staff . I would deffinaterly stay again. Food was very good too. Service was exceptional. Great location for visiting local war memorials and museums . Nothing seemed very far away by car. The small town of Poperinge is very friendly and the beer is the best iv ever had!. Not difficult if your from the Uk though !.

Review 76:Superfriendly staff. We were there newyearseve 2013/2014, and were offered a cooled bottle of Champagne on the house. Great base for WW I tourists, and more in general for people who want to get to know the Lille-Ieper-Coastal area. Pet-friendly.

Review 77:Saturday night - a lot of noise in the street outside (people and cars) - but there's nothing the hotel can do about that.

Review 78:The position on the Grote Markt, the friendly staff, the big bedroom (and almost as big bathroom!), the omelette for breakfast, the freshly made bread.

Review 79:Have stayed here twice now and would recommend it, close to all ammenaties, nice quiet part of town, located in the town square, ideal for travelling around the WW1 sites.

Review 80:Poperinge one way system!

Review 81:Great hotel in an old but pefectly acceptable building. Not reall for the arthritic as no lift :-) Great food, atmosphere and very fiendly, helpful staff.

Review 82:Hotel Amfora is in a perfect position overlooking the square. The staff are very friendly. Our room was large, clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent.

Review 83:Parking on the Market Square is limited (OK for drop off) but a free car park is only 250m away which was fine but would not have been so good in the rain, however, the good points about this hotel make this insignificant. We would still visit here again.

Review 84:Character building with friendly, helpful staff. The position on Grote Markt is excellent and plenty of warm sunshine meant we could eat and drink on the terrace/pavement tables. The room was a great size and the bathroom was also a good size.

Review 85:Hotel Amfora was warm and comforting. The staff made you feel welcome and appreciated. The restaurant food was delicious. The view from the room was beautiful.

Review 86:Rubbish parking. Restaurant closed when we were there. No lifts.

Review 87:The bed in our room (4) was one of the best ever. Lovely lady owner.Superb location. Good breakfast

Review 88:As the hotel does not have it's own parking facilities you have to be careful not to park on the market square car park overnight when town events ,such as market days, are scheduled for the next day.

Review 89:We were pleasantly surprised by the standard of accommodation at the Hotel Amfora which met all our needs perfectly. The room was delightfully spacious with lovely decor. Situated in the main town square this hotel is ideally situated. With it's exceptionally helpful staff, we would most certainly return and recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Review 90:The cost of breakfast per person was rather high.

Review 91:Very friendly owners and staff. Clean and comfortable bedrooms. Delicious food in hotel restaurant.

Review 92:On aesthetic grounds I would prefer not to have air-conditioning installed. Its ugly and hardly necessary at this latitude.

Review 93:Very friendly, spacious room nicely decorated overlooking the main square. Good dinner.

Review 94:The staff were extremely helpful in telling me where to visit in Poperign and when and how to travel to Leper.

Review 95:Friendly staff Comfortable room Good breakfast
