Reviews for Youth Hostel Zermatt

Review 1:No check in till 4pm , Bad location and also with no Elevator?, The biggest issue was that i had to make my bed and if it wasn't made i would receive a 25 Franc fine wow.

Review 2:Apparently it is cheap?, Breakfast isn't too bad

Review 3:Some inconsiderate guests being noisy around 4 am after too much apres ski.

Review 4:Short walk to the Furi lift station. 5 min walk to Papperle pub. Great breakfast. Clean

Review 5:need to walk up a slippy slope no wifi in room the shower water off every 10 seconds

Review 6:nice view from our room, can see the Matterhorn include breakfast nice staff

Review 7:No elevator, need to pick up your beddings at the front desk. Wifi only at common area.

Review 8:Close to hiking trails, staff made good suggestion about activities. Clean.

Review 9:The hostel is located up on the hillside so you have to climb up some staircases before you can reach the hostel. It's a bit difficult if you have a big heavy luggage. My luggage was about 12kg so it was still okay for me at that time. My wife was panting when we finally reached the top.

Review 10:I love the staff there as one of them patiently introduced the hiking routes to me and it really helped a lot! Clean and comfort.

Review 11:A bit far from rail station, may not convenient to who have many luggages. No lift in building. Wifi is a bit weak which only access in lobby.

Review 12:Clean & smart environment, located at hillside could be escaped from crowded. Lockers provided before check-in and after check-out. Matterhorn weather could be viewed from hostel before making decision on do hiking.

Review 13:location is not great, takes 15 minutes from station, diy service too demanding

Review 14:very clean breathtaking scenery you can enjoy Mattehorn view in the room helpful staff relatively cheap price, considering mad price of switzerland

Review 15:As good at the end of our week as at the start. Made organising a walk in the Mattertal with twelve Club members very easy. Staff very helpful with dealing with all our special requests.

Review 16:I met the worse staff during my 3 mths trip in Europe(he is very Moody)and raise his voice up when I ask my first question. Honestly he is the guy who spoil my good image for Switzerland. very dusty under my bed n I found bed bugs on my bed n my hands bites getting more n more n very itchy until I can't sleep at all n go down to lobby

Review 17:Nothing.

Review 18:The staff were rather harsh in his tone during check in. Probably because he was not feeling well. The treatment was like the customer did not matter. Could have been much better reception, with just a simple smile.

Review 19:The packed lunch was great. Presence of lockers in the room was also very useful. Connecting to Wi-fi had no issues. Toilets were clean and well maintained.

Review 20:One staff was somewhat prejudice, cold, and distance whereas another was exceptionally nice and helpful. The young gentle man whom I really appreciated for was helping me on my last day at the hostel to check in to another youth hostel in Luxembourg. Please say hi to him for me if possible.

Review 21:No lift. Limited check in hours.

Review 22:Very Clean and neat. Showers were excellent.good breakfast, dinner is available at hostel if booked in advance. Downside there was no lift in the building, which seems quite an ommission, particularly as there are 4 floors. Some rooms are separated from main building in a separate block 10 meters away.

Review 23:Zermatt is a Beautiful place to stay. We had stunning views of the Matterhorn from our room. The Cable Cars to Glacier Paradise are just a few minutes walk away. Around a 15 minute walk to the station but this is no hardship walking around in a fairy tail like village

Review 24:You have to move up to the hillside with stairssss..... Also, there is no lift. Please avoid heavy and big luggage!

Review 25:I love the 24-hour canteen very much. You can eat at anytime you want without distributing your roommates. They provid me with pre-packed breakfast as I have joined the sunrise tour. Highly apperciated! Also, only 4-person in a room provides us a chance to chit-chat with each other. I love communicating with the roommates with different nationality. It boardens my horizontal. At last, my room is facing Metterhorn. The view is perfect!

Review 26:Because our twin room was actually a bunk bed we upgraded to a double room. The negative was, that our window was right next to a public path with giving people a free view on our bed. Didn't feel secure to open window during night either. The shower kinda flooded the rest of the bathroom

Review 27:Breakfast was great, staff very friendly.

Review 28:You can use the free Wifi only on the first floor. It is too slow up in the room, and it is even not working on 4th floor. Also, if you don't have the youth hostel membership, you should pay 6 euros per night for the daily membership.

Review 29:It was clean.

Review 30:the climb to get to the hostel, otherwise everything is perfect. it is difficult if you are carrying a suitcase

Review 31:Very nice view of Matterhorn from the room and close walking distance

Review 32:The room is a little bit small for 4 people. The location is really far from train station and you have to walk on the deep road also stairs. Will be tired if you bring a big luggage. They don't share the kitchen with visitors, only microwave and kettle for use. So, buy some frozen food before you arrive.

Review 33:The view is really good and the staff are really nice and helpful. The light and plug are just the front of the bed, really convenient when you're using your smartphone before sleeping. And the locker is really big. The bathroom is clean.

Review 34:The check in time 16:00 is a little bit late. No wifi signal in the rooms.

Review 35:The staff are friendly and helpful. Lockers are provided for early comers.

Review 36:The wifi only worked in the lobby and it was extremely slow. The hostel is at the top of a hill and you have to walk up a steep slope and a large flight of stairs to get there. Also, there is no elevator in the hostel so once you check in, you again have to carry all of your luggage up flights of stairs.

Review 37:The staff here are incredible and give great tips on things to do and hiking trails to take. The rooms are extremely clean and while the communal bathrooms are small, they are well maintained.

Review 38:wifi is only available in the lobby. Also, location is a bit far from the train station, you have to walk a long way crossing the village to get up here.

Review 39:This youth hostel in switzerland is the best hostel i have even stayed in. Both room and toilet are Very clean and tidy, it is environmentally friendly as well. Staff are nice and helpful.

Review 40:1.The location is on the hill and the 8 peaple room is on 4th floor, its no elevator ,super unconvience for girl who carry heavy suicase. 2.Wifi is very bad, easy to break

Review 41:Breakfast is great

Review 42:The price was a little high but that should be expected in a ski resort and Switzerland.

Review 43:The hostel had everything you'd expect from one. Beds were very comfortable and it was clean!

Review 44:Need to walk around 15 mins from train station with steep hike for 2 mins (although I knew it already based on earlier reviews). Could not get room with Matterhorn view.

Review 45:Friendly staff, comfortable room, free football table!

Review 46:It's hard to find and about 15-20 mins walk from the train station. It charges 6 CHF per person per night if you aren't a YHA member. Seems ridiculous, as in the UK, we are only charged for 1 pound per person per night or aren't charged at all!

Review 47:Breakfast is good. The hostel is clean.

Review 48:Come on Switzerland, $50 a night for a bunk bed in a room with 3 strangers and share a bathroom/shower with a whole floor? Remember when hostels were $20 a night or less? At the prices of hostels in Switzerland I'd rather just pay 70%-100% more for a private room.

Review 49:It's a slightly above average hostel. Fairly well run.

Review 50:Lack of kitchen for self preparation of meals. Cost of private room very high for a hostel but hotels more expensive.

Review 51:Friendly staff, breakfasts, quietness of sleeping areas, view of mountains

Review 52:climb a long slope and stair. and there was not elevator in the building too...

Review 53:i think it was the best one of three dorm i stayed in swiss. maybe there only four person dorm. not much people. and there was a desk i can put some little on it. every arrangment insided room was convenient

Review 54:Far away from the train station, so if you take the bus ok (but it runs until 7:30 pm). And if not is a 20 min walk, with a hundred steps way at the end.

Review 55:Great views. Good breakfast. Not far from ski Matterhorn express, but you should take the bus (red line, included with the ski pass, stop Luchre, 1 min from the hostel). Nice staff. Bathrooms and rooms were clean.

Review 56:Far from the city center and train station, uphill & uphill walk , diffucult to find out , not recommend if you have havy luggage . However , there is a bus stop not for from the hostel but the fare is quite expensive .

Review 57:Room and shared toilet are clean, good breakfast, beautiful view of Matterhorn from bedroom window .

Review 58:Quite far location Cannot check-in before 16:00 If arrive early, cannot left luggage because there's nobody at reception before check-in time and the only 18 lockers quite always fully used by snowsporter.

Review 59:Good and friendly reception

Review 60:The wifi is only available at certain places. The check in place starts very late, wish it a bit sooner. Quite far and hike up from the main station. If you are bringing a lot of luggage, better take a taxi. Holiday season is very crowded.

Review 61:Good atmosphere for meeting people. Friendly staff.

Review 62:For one night for two people 130~ Euros seems highly inflated, however I recognise that we were in Switzerland and not Italy.

Review 63:Comfortable room, running water, good place for a night or two.

Review 64:Although one of the cheapest hostels in Zermatt, it was still very expensive

Review 65:One of the cheapest hostels in Zermatt. Breakfast was actually nice, meet some great people here and the staff are really helpful with tourist info.

Review 66:The location is very far and uphill which is very inconvenient especially since there were no public transportation when we were there. The reception was not 24 hrs, it was a good thing that I emailed the reception our ETA so they just taped our room key on the hostel door.

Review 67:The staff was very friendly and gave out chocolates. The breakfast buffet was very good.

Review 68:The fabulous view of the Matterhorn from my bedroom window! Access to the electric jug in the dining room was great for tea and soup making. Clean and comfortable with very helpful staff.

Review 69:- Despite having a great view of the Matterhorn, the walk to the hostel is really tiring. - Small and limited number of bathroom and shower stalls provided on my floor.

Review 70:- My room had a clear, unobstructed view of the Matterhorn so it was a really great value for the money. - Room (for 4) is really cosy, with lockers provided.

Review 71:Extremely hard to find it at 2400 from the central train station. We were cold and have no one to ask since very few people passing at that late in Zermatt. And we don't have internet on our phones..Finally we found it with the help of a staff in a fancy hotel. But you have to walk pass to a church(passing through grave yard at midnight is not so pleasant) and climb up to a hill to get into it(No obvious sign outside).

Review 72:Everything is alright, bed, sheets, breakfast....Staff are very nice and helped me with our late night check in, which is a delight.

Review 73:Would have preferred if the beds were separate (bunker beds) instead of being joint in a single row

Review 74:Nice view of Matterhorn from the rooms. The lockers in the room are big enough to holds your backs-packs. It is a very Clean hostel, nice kitchen & the staff is extremely friendly. Not to miss the breakfast has so many options to choose from

Review 75:Very minor but the crimpline bed cover is rather strange.

Review 76:Excellent friendly, humourous and responsive staff. Plus all the rooms have a fantastic view of the Matterhorn. Very good value meals.

Review 77:The timetables are terrible in the swiss youth hostels (they only attend you for 6 hours a day). A bit far from the train station A bit expensive

Review 78:The Staff The beautiful of the location

Review 79:Location wasn't the best but for all its other positives it is a rather small negative.

Review 80:17.5 CHF dinner was lovely and great value for money in Zermatt. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only 2 people in my room.

Review 81:No kitchen is available. A 10+ min (and uphill) walk from the train station. Wifi doesn't work in the rooms. I stayed at a dorm at the top floor and banged my head on the ceiling a couple of times...

Review 82:Clean bathroom and bed. The water of the shower is nice and warm. Is close to a location where you can have a great view of Zermatt and Matterhorn. Comfy bed.

Review 83:Everything else except location was fine. It located the edge of Zermatt and it took 15~20 minutes from station on foot. If you had lots of luggage and had to check your luggage to the hotel, I would not recommend this hotel.

Review 84:Excellent breakfast. Room was small but beds were comfortable. Small shower but clean. Room Price could have been a little lower, But compared to others available in the area this price was good for our last minute booking. It was a 10 minute taxi ride from station. $30 euros for the night taxi at 11 pm was a little expensive.

Review 85:The location. It's a trek from the train station, and upwards. But if you're young, fit, and going mountain climbing anyway, it shouldn't matter.

Review 86:We stayed in a twin room. Had basin, and beds made already. The shower was good, and breakfast was good enough.

Review 87:Shower was a little wonky. The climb up the long flight of stairs and a steep slope is way more horrendous than we expected...do try to travel light, heavy luggages are a headache if you are staying here.

Review 88:Clean facilities, quiet environment, breakfast was quite good

Review 89:There is no lift so elderly people might find it difficult for them to get to their rooms if they stayed on the top floor. No cooking facilities except a microwave and kettle.

Review 90:We have a nice view of Matterhorn in our room. Staff are very helpful. Delicious buffet breakfast. Place is clean.

Review 91:Nothing (but with heavy luggage I recommend taking a taxi from train station as it is a bit of a distance uphill)

Review 92:Perfect view on Matterhorn Variety and fresh breakfast (for a youth hostel) Friendly staff

Review 93:staff were really lovely , Comfy bunks and great location , would highly recommend !!

Review 94:Loud and a bit crowded

Review 95:Food (good value)

Review 96:everything is perfect

Review 97:Good location. Clean. Cheap... What more do you want?! Great for groups of people.

Review 98:Very happy with food nd location. Marvelous view to the Matterhorn out of the sleeping room

Review 99:Awesome location and extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Review 100:Windows didn't have any curtains.

Review 101:Staff

Review 102:Location.. Too hard to get there by walk

Review 103:It was good for me to see mathehorn through window on my room

Review 104:Breakfast

Review 105:Ubication

Review 106:We wish there is bathroom attached.

Review 107:It is comfortable and well- located.

Review 108:Maybe it would be a good idea to have the reception open a bit earlier than 4 pm

Review 109:Only Wi-Fi in the main building. weak connection even in the lobby n canteen.

Review 110:The view of Matterhorn. Good value for meals.

Review 111:Check in only after 4 but there are lockers for a 2 chf deposit to store your stuff.

Review 112:Nice, clean and all-time hostel with great breakfast.

Review 113:Could only get wifi on the first floor, we were on the third.

Review 114:Had a great view of the Matterhorn Mountain..

Review 115:The wifi is not every where.

Review 116:The staff!

Review 117:WiFi is too slow.

Review 118:Friendly staff.

Review 119:it has to walk a long stairway to get there,

Review 120:with good view of the Matherhorn, comfortable, good breakfast, the staffs are helpful,

Review 121:a bit far from the city center, but it's in a walking distance. Check in time is too limited

Review 122:provide good services.

Review 123:Noise (group of school trip).

Review 124:Breakfast. Views of the Matterhorn from window. Pleasant staff.

Review 125:Location is quite far from the center. No elevator.

Review 126:all good

Review 127:location, view of Matterhorn, facilities, breakfast, staff

Review 128:I like the cleanliness as well as the meals served within the hostel. Breakfast was great and the dinner was filling and delicious

Review 129:A bit far from Station and not so easy to find the hostel.

Review 130:Flexible, nice staff and breakfast

Review 131:there was nothing to complain about.everything was good.

Review 132:the breakfast was good, the staff were excellent

Review 133:1. Staff extremely unfriendly 2. Worst breakfast ever had... Hardly nothing 3. No wi-fi at all... 4. Worst or no view 5. No balcony

Review 134:Norhing

Review 135:Everything perfect
