Reviews for Hotel De La Paix
Review 1:Nothing to dislike
Review 2:Our room was top quality and also overlooking a very pretty market Square Linda and Sam the owners were very helpful The bar restraunt was excellent aswell 10 out of 10
Review 3:Poperinghe! Not a fault of the hotel but the number of occasions where we have stayed in the town, over 6 years and the significant access roads or square have been closed, must be approaching double figures. Yet another nightmare tying to access the town square even after ditching the car & seeking directions from hotel on how to find parking. Based on this & past experience will transfer to Ieper for future visits to improve blood pressure. Pity as hotel is very good.
Review 4:Well appointed, spacious modern room. Spotlessly clean & very comfortable. Breakfast good. Value for money package. Would stay again subject to negative comment.
Review 5:Absolutely beautiful and charming hotel. Perfect location overlooking the market square. The front apartment is perfectly decorated and very quiet for facing the street. Restaurant, although not cheap, was perfect. We were traveling with an infant and were even able to set up the pack and play and use the baby monitor in the restaurant.
Review 6:A real little gem of a hotel. The room was amazing and the staff were friendly and all made us feel welcome. A lovely location as well. We could not fault it and will definitely be back.
Review 7:could have got tarrif cheaper by booking direct with hotel
Review 8:Great central position with a well equipped room, comfortable beds and bars restaurants close by
Review 9:The bar and restaurant are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday - we didn't realise that when making the booking, so had to go out for drinks and dinner.
Review 10:A lovely room (room 1) with great facilities, including a fantastic bathroom!
Review 11:Stayed for one night but wished it was longer. Linda the owner was the most wonderful host and really went out of her way to make our stay memorable. We will definitely visit again and would recommend it to our friends and family
Review 12:We had the suite along with two friends as it was described as suitable for 4 adults. We had a small room with two single beds nowhere to hang any clothes, no drawers and not really suitable for anything other than an overnight stay. It was a busy weekend in the town and the hotel restaurant was understaffed causing long waits for food.
Review 13:Central location with free parking a real bonus. The bar had a good selection of beers. The breakfast was ok but nothing special not worth the 13.5 euros each.
Review 14:Hotel front door kept locked, had to summon proprietor by intercom. Car parking stated to be on site, but in fact a public car park away from the hotel and not that easy to find.
Review 15:Comfortable bedroom and attractive town centre location.
Review 16:Very nice staff who welcomed us when we arrived, made sure that we enjoyed our stay and that deserves praise. The attached restaurant served us an excellent meal. We were in town because we are very interested in Belgian beer culture. The host of the restaurant was knowledgeable on Belgian brewing traditions and pointed us in direction of what to do while there.
Review 17:Having to leave
Review 18:A perfect town centre hotel. Great room with outdoor area. Lovely bed with stylish linen. Every comfort. My second stay at hotel. The restaurant I have been to many times & always impressed. Best steak in Belgium.
Review 19:The toilet was in a broom cupboard! Not great if you are clautrophobic. We couldn't move the TV enough to watch from bed.
Review 20:The location of the hotel was on the central square. We had a large room that was part of an appartment. The shower was great. The breakfast was lovely and the egg was cooked to order.
Review 21:Nothing
Review 22:Great location on main square Fantastic, recently refurbished rooms Lovely outdoor terrace on room Beer garden (and 100 beers to try) Great shower Good food @ dinner
Review 23:Very friendly staff and owners.Excellent breakfast. Linda the owner cooks a mean boiled egg. Location on square is just perfect and parking at rear.
Review 24:Hotelier very friendly and most accommodating we arrived at 9pm and they had finished serving in the restaurant . They were more than happy to prepare us a simple supper. Beautiful Hotel, lovely staff, nice beer frequented by the locals. The room was clean and simply furnished, excellent shower and deep bath. Towels, robes and toiletries supplied. Our room had a lovely decking area which overlooked the rear gardens .A lovely hotel in a fantastic position on the Market square we will be return.
Review 25:Needs hot drink facilities, I love a cup tea first thing.
Review 26:Great staff, location and room was excellent, I couldn't have been happier. We had the 4 bed suite for one night and it was perfect.
Review 27:Breakfast good but on both mornings I had to go looking for someone to order eggs and refill juice as no one appeared despite "hellooing".
Review 28:good location if visiting the various war cemeteries or as a stopover on way home or into France. In the town square so plenty of restaurants around if the hotel menu doesn't suit.Language ot to much of a problem as someone in the restaurant will speak english. Freeparking nearby.Sound proofing in room good as is air con.
Review 29:The only thing that disappointed me was a lack of Tea & coffee facilities in our fantastic room.
Review 30:Wow, what a fantastic hotel in beautiful village. Situated on the square with its own restaurant and bar.
Review 31:Might be noisy because of the wooden floors - not a problem on the night we stayed
Review 32:Rooms were finished to a high standard Great advice on places to go
Review 33:Having to leave.
Review 34:Hosts were friendly, Knowledgeable about local tourism, Always willing to help. Well worth a visit. They also run the adjacent Cafe de La Paix which serves excellent meals and refreshments.
Review 35:There were no tea or coffee making facilities, the toilet was so small it was ridiculous, I had to open the door to pull my trousers up!!!! The place seemed shut, no staff visible for two days including reception. It seemed cold, un-appealing and to be honest, a waste of money.
Review 36:The room was very clean, couldn't be faulted.
Review 37:The check-out time of 10:30 is a little earlier than I would normally want, though wasn't an issue on this occasion.
Review 38:This small hotel is right in the town centre on the Grote Markt. The rooms are extremely modern and stylish, much more upmarket than I would expect at the price. Mine had a sun terrace. A free car park is located a short distance away and bike storage was provided.
Review 39:The staff were very friendly, the food and beer good, the rooms immaculate and the overall ambiance was great. Far nicer than staying in the usual chain hotels!
Review 40:Ease of check in, warm welcome and superb room. Ideally situated in the centre of this charming town. Decor in hotel and rooms all excellent, faultless. Highly recomended.
Review 41:Absolutely nothing, would go there again.
Review 42:Newly renovated at a high standard. Nice and helpful staff. The bar/restaurant downstairs is really cool with many beer (that is the only thing to do in the town so it's cool to have it just there).
Review 43:A stylishly-modernised old hotel in the main square. Comfortable room, welcoming proprietor, good quality breakfast buffet. We can recommend the hotel restaurant for lunch/dinner.
Review 44:Minus points: The suite was really 2 bedrooms off of a long corridor. One bedroom was small the other was supposed to have a sitting facility but there was in fact only 3 chairs. Separate toilet was so small that sitting on the loo, your knees touch the door!! Doors opened outwards blocking the corridor. The reviews spoke of the good restuarant next door (part of the hotel), it was closed and there was not much choice in the town. Car parking was in a communal park that was already full of cars as early as 3pm. All in all not a bad experience but it did not live up to the rave reviews on the booking.com site.
Review 45:Oh dear! First time in over 4 years of reading booking, com reviews that I feel the need to take issue with the high scores given by others. Plus points; the bathroom was excellent and the rooms were clean.
Review 46:Comfortable small hotel in centre of town. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast options. Modern facilities inside a traditional building shell. Parking available.
Review 47:Irritating that the room lights don't work if one person leaves the room with the keys and the other stays to read and rest.
Review 48:Almost everything. Simple, modern décor in sympathy with the building. Comfortable room and bathroom. Good breakfast and pleasant staff. Handy base for visiting west Flanders and the battlefields.
Review 49:There wasn't anything that we didn't like.
Review 50:This is a fantastic hotel to stay right in the centre of Poperinge. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We had a lovely evening meal after attending ceremonies for WW1 Centenary. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in and breakfast the next morning was plentiful and very tasty. I would recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. We will be back when next on a Battlefield Tour
Review 51:Free car parking is available just behind hotel, although with the new (to me at least) one way system it is not easy to find - park in the square opposite hotel (take a ticket and get first 30 minutes free) and staff will show you where it is.
Review 52:Most things!
Review 53:Can't think of anything but if you are not very mobile their are stairs up to the rooms but not a problem for us.
Review 54:The location is right in the centre of Poperinge facing the square so handy for visiting the museums etc. The decor is very tasteful and modern. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice available. Linda, the owner, is very pleasant and couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 55:The town was very quiet - far too quiet for our liking. Obviously thisis a very personal thing, but I was actually encouraged to book by otherreviewers who said it was noisy at night! Unfortunately for us,everything was pretty much closed by about nine. The town'srestaurants stop serving very early, pretty much 8.15. The hotel bar wasthe only place open after dinner, and we were happy to go back there, but even there we were refused a drink at 11, despite the fact thatthere were quite a few residents still drinking in the bar.
Review 56:The room was spotless, and lovely. Contrary to what other reviewers havesaid, there was absolutely no noise whatever from the square which ourroom overlooked, despite the fact that the market had been setting upfrom five. Excellent soundproofing!
Review 57:Next door but one being completely demolished. It did not ruin our break and we enjoyed the accomadation but the noise and dust started at 7.00am. Not the owners fault but it would have been nice to know before we turned up.
Review 58:Good location friendly owner, lots of bars and restaurants nearby, although being out of season the opening times seemed a bit randomn.
Review 59:not a lot
Review 60:We picked this hotel from a list of possibles en route to the Uk, by chance the other preferred lodgement was full, what good fortune as the hotel surpassed all expectations, the rooms were very good and the food both for breakfast and dinner wasalso very good and I would recommend it to anyone
Review 61:Took over an hour for the landlady to be able to book us in as she had to dash off to her other hotel! Still we managed to spend the time drinking beer on their lovely terrace!
Review 62:Easy to find, good parking, ok breakfast. Décor of the hotel was good and our room was superb, really large bedroom and bathroom with all toiletries and even lovely bathrobes. Private terrace with table and chairs for perfect evening pre dinner drink.
Review 63:some of the friendliest staff we ever encountered! Very well located, with an in-house restaurant, two terraces we felt no need to check out other places...
Review 64:Steep stairs. Rooms at front overlooking the square could be noisy at night. Cafe and restaurant shut for 2 days a week.
Review 65:Lovely modern rooms. Friendly staff. Good setting on market square. Parking. Good selection of beers. Rooms at back have balconies.
Review 66:The only criticism I would say is that if staying in Room 1 do not risk keeping the windows open at night as your sleep will be disturbed. The Square is a lovely place but does get rather lively and Café De La Paix is the most popular watering hole in the Square!! Also, even when everyone has gone home to bed the tyre noise from vehicles going through the square can be quite loud. Close the windows and, if a little warm outside, utilise the top quality air conditioning unit and you will sleep like a baby in the most comfortable of beds. My previous visit I stayed in a room at the back so I had no criticism at all.
Review 67:We have stayed at the Hotel De La Paix 4 years ago when passing through from Germany to Dunkirk and wanted to stay overnight near to the Ferry Port and found this little gem then so did not hesitate to return here when making a trip to visit the WW1 area. The hotel is so comfortable with no expense spared when furnishing the rooms. Breakfast is sumptuous with freshly baked bread and rolls. Everything is beautifully presented and convenient. The eggs have the most wonderful golden (almost orange) yolks so no battery laid eggs here. The restaurant and bar next door is highly recommended. The staff are extremely friendly and the food delicious. The owners are the most helpful and welcoming people too. Everything about the Hotel and Café is to quality and ingredients. I would not hesitate to recommend and in fact are already planning a return trip next year.
Review 68:Room Allocated overlooked town market place - very interesting in daytime but late evening hubub and traffic noise over pave disturbed sleep. To minimise this, windows needed to be closed and very effective air-con switched on overnight.
Review 69:Room allocated was large and comfortable with very modern and efficient bathroom facilities. High standard of cleanliness throughout. Adjacent restaurant excellent service and value Location easy public parking and in interesting town centre.
Review 70:Lovely hotel in a great town. I have stayed at the hotel twice and it has not disappointed at all! Will definitely book a visit again in the future! Thank you.
Review 71:Stayed in room 2 at back of hotel with our 2 kids (9, 11). Very clean, very spacious room, beds very comfy and with a lovely balcony. Back of hotel quiet with no street noise. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful.
Review 72:not much!

Review 74:Very nice room right at the top of the building with a private outside terrace - very nice ! Room well appointed and decorated. Very helpful staff and the owners only too pleased to be of assistance- certainly recommend
Review 75:2 flights of winding stairs made access to rooms difficult
Review 76:Room were beyond excellent- spacious, well thought out, spotless, the bathroom was luxurious, and with those extra touches that take it beyond ordinary hotel rooms
Review 77:There is nothing I dislike about this hotel. We have stayed here twice, and will stay again.
Review 78:It's a lovely hotel, perfectly situated with beautiful rooms. The staff and proprietors are excellent and very kind. We made a mistake with our booking date and the owner kindly accommodated us with no extra charge, even though it had been my error. Parking is free and convenient too - a real bonus for a location like Poperinge.
Review 79:Parking was difficult as we had to park in a nearby car park, although there was no problem.
Review 80:A lovely hotel, right in the centre of the town, on the main square. A real find! The hotel bar menu had more beers than I had ever seen. Our room was wonderful for a small hotel.
