Reviews for Hotel O Ieper
Review 1:Excellent service, receptionist more than helpful, cant recommend it enough. Parking ten mins away but worth the extra ten euros for safe indoor parking.
Review 2:Some of the corridor were very dark which made it hard to see what you were doing at times, the first receptionist was a little abrupt but the second was very helpful
Review 3:The location was ideal, just off the main square, room was comfortable a little dark but that was due to the decore as the whole place had a military theme due to history in the area, breakfast was continental but a nice simple selection all in all good value for money
Review 4:Hotel Car park is located a 7/8 min walk from the hotel which isn't ideal when its cold and raining. Also the beds are not very comfortable. Housekeeping don't knock before they enter your room which they did at 9.15am when I was getting dressed!! No do not disturb signs provided.
Review 5:Hotel itself is lovely, staff very friendly, great location.
Review 6:No receptionist on arrival spent some time looking. Late access to rooms due to still being cleaned. No towels in one of the rooms, obtained from a cleaner who was working on a nearby room. Unable to pay via credit card due to loss of signal to reader, had to pay cash which left us short of euro,s.
Review 7:good selection at breakfast. Bed was comfortable. Secure Parking was available, despite a bit of a walk we would recommend that you take this option.
Review 8:Toilet wth no windows or extractor fan and only one small window in room meant a smelly room. The bed was cold with one thin duvet so we put clothes on top of the bed to keep warm.
Review 9:Location is excellent
Review 10:Unstable beds, poor and old sanitairy, small and very warm rooms, you hear everybody walking and talking in the corridors when you're in your room. No value for money.
Review 11:Situated on the great market of Ieper, perfect location. Breakfast was all right. Friendly staff.
Review 12:Breakfasts could be improved. The hotel is decorated on a theme of the war and the dark, sombre colours used can be a little depressing.
Review 13:Location is very good staff helpful
Review 14:No shower, only a hand held shower over the bath. Coffe and tea making facilities were incomplete. No staff apart from when booking in / out. Breakfast was very limited and hot water was only available using one kettle between all guests.
Review 15:Clean bedroom and comfortable bed.
Review 16:We booked a room with AC the fist room did not have it. The next room had AC but it was not powerful enough to keep the room cool. The Fridge did not work, the bathroom smelt of drains. It is not a true hotel no bar or restaurant and the reception is only manned during the day. The staff where well aware of the problems but as one of them said " we always get these complaints but nothing changes"
Review 17:They sent me a notice telling me that my credit card was rejected, thus could not guarantee room. My card worked perfectly well and was used at a different hotel. Suspect they needed the room at higher price as there was a sporting event same day.
Review 18:Could not even get in! They offered substitute locations, but these were too far for our liking.
Review 19:The breakfast didn't provide much variety. The matress and bedsheets did't fit the bed properly.
Review 20:The location is perfect. The World War I decor is interesting.
Review 21:I had originally booked a room with aircon but the apartment didn't have any, minor irritation as the apartment had only just been finished. The shower in the apartment did not drain properly so we had a shower and a footbath at the same time. When reported it did seem that the staff were aware of the problem. Also the workers/previous occupiers had left beer cans in the kitchen which we tidied up.
Review 22:staff very friendly and helpful. The room had been double booked and we were 'upgraded' to the new apartment opposite for the same price. They were also great when we needed to put our motorcycling gear somewhere for a couple of hours> \Great simple breakfast very friendly breakfast woman, very attentive and polite Brilliant secure parking which made me feel very safe about leaving my motorcycle.
Review 23:Downside however is that car park is inconviently far away, and staff are never at desk but at anther hotel , and despite saying they will be here in a minute they take a long time
Review 24:Very nice hotel in great location. .
Review 25:Safe didn't work, rooms were stifling - no air con, any problems we had were talked about with staff, but not resolved.
Review 26:Location was perfect - next to the main square and cloth hall
Review 27:There was no privacy in the toilet. There was no plug near the TV so we couldn't plug in. The room was very warm that I felt I'll during the night as there was no air con.we didn't feel secure at all as there was no lock on the front door to the apartment.
Review 28:The apartment was clean and was in good location of the central town.
Review 29:Nobody in reception unless they were phoned, (but when they came they were pleasant and service-oriented.) Couldn't figure out how to make the in-room coffee machine work, strange brown spot on the bathroom floor (which smelled not the greatest.)
Review 30:Pleasant and service oriented staff. Champagne at breakfast and pleasant breakfast room, location, nice beds, pretty design.
Review 31:One member of our party required gluten-free bread. A member of staff went away to try and locate. No contact was made again and it seems the special loaf had just been placed with the other bread and had been cut into and eaten by others, it was contaminated by ordinary bread crumbs. We found this out only upon requiring what had become of the gluten-free bread we required.
Review 32:It couldn't be more convenient for all the central restaurants, Abbey, Mennen gate etc. Parking overnight in the central square (close by) was free.
Review 33:Rooms a little dark but that's in keeping with the theme. Paint could do with a touch up
Review 34:Perfect location. Comfy bed. Great shower. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 35:Great staff, very helpful. Good location. Good breakfast. Although we had difficulty getting to the hotel as market square was closed the fact that we got a room looking out over the square and Cloth hall more than made up for it. Interesting décor (our boy loved the army theme).Would return again.
Review 36:On arrival we had to wait for 40 mins even though we used the reception phone twice. Once Anna checked us in, the room we were given had no AC. The AC in the room we were then taken to was inadequate as it took hours to barely cool the room. Consequently we had an uncomfortable 2 nights at this hotel. We did try to cancel the booking because of this issue but we were told that we'd loose half of our payment even though the hotel was not up to the described standard in booking.com. Beware that when contacting booking.com, they take the hotel's stance regarding cancellation. Reception was also unmanned when we were leaving in the morning to catch a train even though we had told reception at what time we were leaving! We had to wait around 15 mins again, and could have missed our train had we not calculated that this might happen.
Review 37:Anna was wonderful trying to deal with our issues even though she had two receptions to deal with at the same time (separate hotel). The owner only turned up once to try to sell art work but not to deal with the issues we had.
Review 38:No Air-con. Unfortunately I was there when an amusement park had set up in the main square. Absolutely awful. Very very loud. Totally spoilt the vibe. No fault of the hotel obviously but had to keep the windows shut due to the noise. With no air-con this made for an uncomfortable night.
Review 39:WiFi was patchy - we could only get a connection in the restaurant
Review 40:Superb town centre location, friendly, helpful staff, comfortable room. Undercover parking a short walk fro the hotel.
Review 41:The Bed was uncomfortable and the bottom sheet didn fit, the room was dirty, the blind didnt work, the lights didnt all work and the water was tepid. The breakfast was terrible and the coffee machine didnt work
Review 42:Nothing it was a disaster
Review 43:mattress on bed moved very easily. At one point my son and mattress both ended up on the floor
Review 44:Staff very friendly. Good theme in hotel décor. Excellent breakfast and hotel location
Review 45:Unmanned reception.
Review 46:Convienient location, near to bars, restaurants. The cloth hall was across the gros market a minute away and the menin gate a 5 minute walk. Wifi good, receptionist very friendly and helpful. This hotel has a quirky army mess feel to it which I loved, not for people who like to lounge around!!
Review 47:Radiator in room even tough was not switched on was noisy and kept me awake throughout the night. The theme of the room decor makes it feel oppressive would not stay here more than one night.
Review 48:Location was good.
Review 49:Rooms were hot, very dark and dismal, smell from drains, broken lights, broken fridge, no wi-fi, poor shower, generally worn out decor, safe not secured to wall, safety latch on door dangerous. Reception not manned.
Review 50:Leaving!
Review 51:Couldnt get wi-fi.It is a dormitory NOt a hotel. It is done out as a GI establishment ,painte dark khaki so is very drab and lights dont always work. The car garage is a long way away great if it rains. There is no furniture only ex GI ammo tins etc.
Review 52:The location.
Review 53:Bonkers room numbering and two separated lifts make finding your room the first adventure. Lights in corridors not working. No Hot water waiting for minutes on the top floor. Shower in bath hand held only no hook or rail. Top floor rooms have no A/C so unbearably hot. If you open the window then market square and clock tower make sure then too noisy. Loud clicking from outside room all night meant no sleep an no phones in room meant no means of reporting once reception not manned. Offer derisory 15Euro discount from staff who don't seem to understand the main point of a hotel room is to sleep. Single bed offered camping levels of comfort. Go and stay in the Albion round the corner its far better.
Review 54:Free Good Speed WIFI
Review 55:The private garage was some distance away which wasn't make clear on the information There was no shower facility - the bath had a hand held shower but the fitting leaked and the wall bracket to hold the shower head was broken
Review 56:The hotel is just of the main square and within very easy distance of the Flanders Field museum & Menin gate as well as lots of restaurants The bathroom had a good size basin Breakfast was good with the bread and coffee excellent
Review 57:Colour scheme is dark but didn't find it a problem. Heed the warning about parking on market square
Review 58:Modern hotel minutes from main tourist points without any noise. Liked the space and individual theme rather than typical iKea mode. Great to have fridge and coffee m/c as well as traditional tea tray.
Review 59:Paid for secure parking which turned out to be a 10 minute walk away through the centre of Ypres. Receptionist in the morning overcharged me 10 Euro and then wanted me to leave my full bank account details so she could so out a refund when the manager came in 'later'! I didn't obviously and they never e-mailed me to sort the refund out!
Review 60:Located right on the Gros Markt! WW1 theme throughout.
Review 61:Didn't like having to leave
Review 62:Funkiness of the hotel. Relaxed, comfortable, but thoroguhly professional, and in tune with customer needs. Love to stay here again.
Review 63:It is decorated to represent a cross between the trenches and a powcamp, I think. It isn't at all in bad taste, but if you don'tlike small rooms decorated entirely in brown ( incl ceiling ) ormilitary accoutrements in your room, I suggest you don't stay here!I couldn't have coped with more than one night.
Review 64:The staff, the location, the cleanliness were fabulous. I must emphasisethat my only disagreement with this quirky hotel lies in the decor. Onpaper, the staff, food, facilities, coffee machines, location all add upto a splendid stay. I just laughed at most of it. But it is depressing.
Review 65:Phone lines down so no computer at reception. Check-in services provided via sister hotel around the corner, as was Wi-Fi.
Review 66:Great location just off the main square in Ieper. Use of several buildings made locating the room an experience.
Review 67:Secure parking was a distance and expensive. Overnight parking on the Grot Markt was free. Room was quite small. The wiring re a light/coffee machine was very untidy
Review 68:Our room in building 2 had great view across to the Cloth Hall and Market place.. So well located, clean and friendly staff.. They told us to get to the Menin Gate early (short walk) which was great advice. Loved the modern vibe and simple decor of the place plus were able to park right outside in street quite safely.
Review 69:Room described as twin with bunk beds. Shows pictures of twin beds. When arrived found only had bunk beds, no twin beds. They claimed to not be able to move us to a proper twin room. Would not have booked if description and pictures were accurate. Breakfast pretty poor.
Review 70:Location
Review 71:Being charged for a broken mirror that fell off wall.. Room was so smallyou had to brush against walls to get around. Mirror held on by 2nails.. Cheap ikea rubbish.
Review 72:Close to town
Review 73:Perfect location for visiting everything we wanted to see. Very friendly and helpful staff. Liked the theme of the hotel. Altogether a very pleasant stay.
Review 74:The attempt at a military style, pretty basic furnishing only serves to give the hotel a very basic feel and not worthy of the price. Breakfast room felt like a hostel with rough tables and chairs where you have paid half the price.
Review 75:Very friendly staff and a reasonably comfortable room. The location cannot be faulted for a visit to Ypres as long as you can find a parking place.
Review 76:Parking in the vicinity of the hotel is difficult and the hotel's secure parking is some distance away.
Review 77:Very friendly and helpful staff.my wife and I enjoyed our breakfast in the bunker's 'canteen'.
Review 78:The bed was soft and not particularly comfortable. A firmer mattress would have been welcome.
Review 79:The breakfast was excellent although bizarrely we were sent to a sister hotel only to find this one was in fact serving breakfast. The staff were excellent. Room was basic but functional. The hotel is just off the town square so in a great location.
Review 80:Parking can be a problem on Saturdays.
Review 81:Clean and friendly, well run with helpful staff in reception and in the dining room. Excellent buffet breakfast. Rooms comfortable and well equipped.
Review 82:Although the shower worked very well it didn't have a hook on the wall so had to hold shower in hand.
Review 83:Comfortable bed in perfect location. Practically on the main square, surrounded by some good bars and restaurants. Good Continental breakfast, with very nice fresh bread. Very friendly and helpful staff whose English was perfect.
Review 84:Nothing
Review 85:A very reasonable price. The location is ideal as is next to the Market Square. Breakfast was good quality and included in the price. The staff were very helpful, we arrived early but were allowed to store our bags. I would like to visit again if I return to Iepre
Review 86:no on site parking walls painted too dark (good for a 1 night stay, couldn't stay there longer) no on site staff (except in breakfast area), had to call and they were there about 5 min later. breakfast was basic; disappointed in the assortment of bread staff doesn't make any effort to speak any language but their dialect.
Review 87:perfect location good size rooms clean rooms decorated with memorabilia from the Great War
Review 88:Very central location our room looked over the main square and the Flanders Field Museum. Hotel very well designed with war time theme. Rooms we're clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Less than 5 min walk to Menin Gate. Would return to same hotel if we visit again.
Review 89:everything about this hotel is right, location food beds cleanliness comfort . have nothing bad about then hotel to say , iv allready booked for next year when passing through
Review 90:Good breakfast. The shower worked really well, and was good to use in the bath. Lovely view of the market square from my room. Rosalie was really helpful and friendly on the reception.
Review 91:the hotel seems to run on a theme of the trenches, all the rooms and corridors are dark, all light fittings and furniture are in style of trench lighting and furniture, Gerry cans, boxe ect for furniture. I think if we had stayed longer the darkness of the place would have spoilt the stay.
Review 92:We stayed here to visit the Menin Gate and the war graves. The location of the hotel is perfect, 3 minute walk to the gate. We were upgraded to a large room overlooking the main square. room was clean and bed and bedding comfortable. breakfast was included in the price, it was fine.
Review 93:Double bed was just two single beds that were not secured together. Safe did not work. Wet room was wet, ie did not drain away very effectively over three hours. Over priced for a tired and poorly maintained hotel.
Review 94:Receptionist was nice, but had to come from the Regina Hotel.
Review 95:Hotel described as eco-friendly but not as a themed hotel of ww1 trench conditions. Including the authentic smell of sweaty feet everywhere. Rooms very dark, walls painted in either black or dark brown. Paint peeling off the bench tables in the 'canteen'. Then the bed... two single beds pushed together, mattresses bigger than bed bases so when you sat on the bed you slipped off on to the floor or they scooted across the wooden floor in opposite directions. When we told the staff the morning after we where told that the beds 'should' have been secured together. Sorry. Not a double 'comfort room' .
Review 96:Location, location, location. A bath at last. Good breakfast. first class coffee facilities in the room. The view from the window !!!!!!!!
Review 97:Too much usage of black color, too soft beds, noise of the passing cars from the street is heard and loud.
Review 98:Central location, modern facility, nice and helpful staff, quality breakfast, the war like concept of the cafe and reception areas
Review 99:The door not workin when trying to get back in on the first night , about 12 people had to wait till help arrived and I was needing the toilet and my oxygen cylinder changed
Review 100:Very friendly staff and the help in securing my oxygen from the local pharmacy the staff that I dealt with by email were excellant I will recommend this hotel to my friends that I know will be visiting Yprer Thank you all
Review 101:Nothing.
Review 102:The hotel is across the road from the Flanders Field Museum in the city centre. It was a really convenient location for us. The 'first world war' ambience might not be to everyone's taste, but it's quite amusing, and all the facilities are modern and comfortable. We should certainly stay here again.
Review 103:We were not advised that the room's decoration and furnishings were 'themed' to WW1. The Olive Drab walls & ceiling, with the low level lighting made the room very dark. However the bathroom was modern & bright & the bed extremely comfortable.
Review 104:The location couldn't have been better, right on the square opposite the Cloth Hall.
Review 105:Can't think of any negatives!
Review 106:Location is excellent, a friendly hotel, very clean and comfortable, great breakfast and friendly staff. We have stayed here a number of times and it is always our first choice when visiting the area.
Review 107:What a spot - just near the famous Cloth Hall and town square and a few minutes stroll from the Menin Gate, but on a quiet street. Feels like a recent refurbishment, with small but good rooms and pleasant decor reflecting the history of the region.
Review 108:Darkness of interior as theme was ww1 trenches dark battle grey My double bed needed to be replaced-- well over due!
Review 109:Close to menan gate Hotel right on main square My room opened over the square Beautiful view
Review 110:rooms very dark ww1 theme more suitable for a younger age set rather than us who are sixty something !!
Review 111:helpfulness of staff, brilliant, city centre location excellent but noisy at night, breakfast good
Review 112:Friendly greeting at reception Very unusual decor around hotel but it worked ! pleasant helpful staff excellent location for exploring Ypres Good breakfast Would be happy to stay again
Review 113:I have tried to contact hotel direct before reporting that we had bed bugs. Both my husband and I were bitten and my husband still has considerable bites. I was surprised to find our mattress had a topper which did not completely fit the mattress underneath. I would like to give the hotel chance to respond as in all other way we liked the hotel but could not recommend under the circumstances.
Review 114:Some rooms face the square and are spacious, others have no view and are quite cramped. Two of our group reported mosquitos in their rooms.
Review 115:Great location right by the main square and a short stroll from the Menin Gate. Decent selection at breakfast.
Review 116:Wifi only worked in breakfast room, not in own room; missing/broken items in our rooms - didn't report until left so not much staff could do about that. Dark brown decor a question of taste but not ours as it made room very gloomy.
Review 117:Excellent location; quiet at night; reasonable breakfast; value-for- money; lots of not-too-expensive parking nearby. Great for getting around the town.
Review 118:Room was quite warm. Storage was a bit limited.
Review 119:Secure parking was provided just a 5 minute walk away. The hotel was located 10 paces from the market place.Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 120:No parking. I parked a fair distance away and had to keep going back to 'top up' the meter.
Review 121:The attitude of the staff, very helpful and happy to stop what they were doing to help you. The location, ideal for the Menin Gate and the main square.
Review 122:Booked Hotel O but found on arrival that we had to stay in the Regina which was strange. When I said that I had booked the Hotel O and wanted to stay there and not The Regina this was met with shrugs. It was the 100th Anniversary of the start of WW1 and we booked the hotel almost a year in advance. We couldn't walk away as we would have had no where to stay. As it happens The Regina was nice enough with a good breakfast. Off Street car parking is a really good addition but the garage is a long way from the hotel and this should be made clear as those with mobility issues would have struggled with a long walk.
Review 123:Staff we friendly and accommodating.
Review 124:Lack of Reception Staff. The Sister Hotel around the corner shares the Reception Staff and on the day we checked out we required a taxi. Called the phone number to the other hotel and was told someone would be there in 2 minutes. 15 minutes later and another phone call they still didn't arrive. So we had to walk to the train station and missed our train and had to wait an hour for another one. When the staff were there they were friendly.
Review 125:Location was close to Menin Gate and near WW1 Tour pick up. Room clean and comfortable. Wifi good.
Review 126:Lift not working for the 2 nights we were there, had to carry bags up stairs which is not good for a 70 year old.Only 1 towel in room and had to wait until 16-00 the next day for more.Lack of staff, we had to wait to check out as the receptionist was at another hotel. In general, the hotel needs a good makeover.
Review 127:Very dark rooms. Minimal breakfast selection. Overpriced. Decorated in military style and it doesn't quite come across as well as it might. Full price taken from debit card three days prior to arrival, and a further three days wait for it to be returned. Quite noisy with poor sound insulation. Odd smell in bathroom.
Review 128:Excellent location. Right on top of Grote Markt and all it has to offer.
Review 129:the historic city of IEPER - a must see for everybody; central location and all important things to see and do in walking distance; for some extra you even get a great secure parking spot
Review 130:We booked 4 rooms each had a few problems with plumbing, 1 was missing a telephone and a shower head, not all of these snags were fixed over a 3 night stay.
Review 131:Hotel staff were helpful the general standard of the Comfort rooms were good and the location was excellent in walking distance of the museums restaurants and the Menin gate.
Review 132:Breakfast could have been more extensive.
Review 133:Staff were very friendly and helpful in finding parking. Hotel was centrally located and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again.
Review 134:Basic but adequate facilities.
Review 135:Nearness to town centre and it's many eating establishments. Good breakfasts. Wi-Fi if needed, fridge provided and use of a safe.
