Reviews for Hostal "Oro Blanco"
Review 1:Beds weren't the most comfortable nor the pillow.
Review 2:The staff were polite, courteous, informative and professional. The breakfast was more than substantial with cereal, fruit, bread and cooked eggs. Location was very convenient to tour offices, eateries and the bus station. Welcome chocolate and water was a nice personal touch.
Review 3:Tiny bathroom/shower in our room. When we showered anything in the bathroom became saturated.
Review 4:This town does not offer much in terms of good accomodation from what we could research and saw from our time there. Oro Blanco is comfortable, friendly staff, reliable internet (for Bolivian standards) and was cheap. No one spends more than 1 night in town and this was more than suitable for that amount of time. Large breakfast included also.
Review 5:room was too small, the bed was banded, and very uncomfortable to sleep. no elevator. shower is cold. The receptionist had bad attitude, not helping at all. When we need to make a local call to the hotel in La Paz, and willing to pay, the receptionist told us to search for public phone in the cold mid night where a bunch of street dogs outside.
Review 6:close to the travel agency.
Review 7:Noise at 7am in morning (not sure if one-off) but also train noise in evening. No hairdryer or coffee/tea.
Review 8:Breakfast was very good. Room clean and shower hot. Location near station & city centre. Had bottle of water in room.
Review 9:Bit grotty and run down. Small rooms. Patchy wifi. Kitchen out of commission during our stay
Review 10:Very friendly owner. Good hot water. Perfectly adequate for a stopover
Review 11:We slept on the first floor at the street side. Lots of noise and the neon sign of the hotel next to our window. The curtains let a lot of light through and did not close very well. Not always warm water... Wifi signal only in the common area. Very expensive for the level of comfort.
Review 12:The location is very good, close to the train station and the main square of Uyuni. Breakfast is good.
Review 13:There is no hot water in our room when we stayed. We arrived very late and needed to get up very early for the sunrise tour. We didn't have enough time to sleep so we didn't bother to complain.
Review 14:Great location. We booked this one because it's just opposite our travel agency. The beds are soft and comfortable. Our room has a big window to the outside. It's quiet and nice. I saw some other rooms have windows opened to the hallway, which doesn't offer much ventilation. I would check before booking. The reception is very nice. There is no lift but he helped with the luggage.
Review 15:I'm not sure I would want to spend a lot of time here. But if you're in transit it is an acceptable option.
Review 16:I was just passing through. I arrived late afternoon from Potosi and caught a 4am bus to Calama, Chile. This provided what I needed (clean bed, bath and functioning wifi) and even packed me a to-go breakfast. It was an easy walk to the street with all the buses and I felt safe walking alone at 3:30 in the morning.
Review 17:Showers often not hot at peak times, not cold but luke warm. Internet works mainly only downstairs not in the room. Even there the connection is shaky but I hear this is the case in all of Uyuni.
Review 18:Very friendly and helpful front staff. You are allowed to leave your luggage here for free for three days while on a salt plains tour. Rooms basic but enough space, comfortable beds. Decent breakfast of toast, eggs, fruit and hot drinks included.
Review 19:The beds needed new mattresses before Morales was elected president. The shower head sprayed more water against the wall than downwards.
Review 20:Very convenient location next to the bus station. Decent breakfast and reasonable (for Bolivia) WiFi in our room.
Review 21:It gets a little noisy so close to the main square. If you're not a partier, you might want a room in the back.
Review 22:Jose is the best host ever! He fixes any problems you have, gives great advice about tours, restaurants, and any other issues I had. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with great decor. The breakfast is the best I've had at a hostel.
Review 23:Whilst we got hot water for our shower, it was HOT water, it was a little temperamental, so we either got a boiling hot shower or freezing cold and the water pressure was a little low. Everything else was great and I would definitely recommend staying here.
Review 24:When we were greeted the gentleman at the desk was super friendly and helpful - this made our stay. The beds were comfortable. We had a heater in our room - a luxury in Bolivia Breakfast was good (standard for Bolivia)
Review 25:Renovation during our stay. We had to be careful not to get the ugly color on our shoes and clothes. After renovation ( next day), the floor was still ugly. Same as the hostel. No WIFI in the room and only temporarily in the lobby No more water after one of us had a shower. Very bad for the second person if you go to the salt dersert in the morning. TVA was not included and absolutely no value for money. Worst stay in South American within our 2 months journey. We can not recommend this hostel
Review 26:Breakfast was ok but not really good.
Review 27:Nothing!!!
Review 28:This place is the cosiest I have been in all of South America. The hotel is right beside the train station and restaurants across the road. It was really nice and warm in the rooms, smelt of fresh laundry and the breakfast was great. But I can't say enough good things about the owner, he was so helpful and works very hard. I was leaving on a train at 3 am and he made sure he left a packed breakfast in reception for me so I didn't miss out. What a legend!!!
Review 29:The shower didn't drain quickly and there is no ventilation in the bathroom. Everything gets wet!
Review 30:The staff was able to give us our room when we arrived at one in the morning. The room itself was a little cozy but not too bad. Everything was very clean and warm. The breakfast was great. Made to order eggs and yogurt!
Review 31:Very strange little place, restaurant attached to hotel, but doesn't open, staff are a bit hectic and don't seem to know what's going on, and the parking they offer is a 10 minute walk away!
Review 32:It was clean
Review 33:The location was good but because it was on a Main Street and the curtains didn't really cover the windows you had to get changed in the bathroom, I think it's a good little place to stay for a night but 295 bolivianos for a double room with private bathroom is definitely way overpriced, I think more like 195 would be more like it, we've stayed all over Bolivia and paid much less for the same thing
Review 34:The owner was very helpful and enthusiastic, breakfast was good and the room had an automatic heater that went on in the coldest hours of the night
Review 35:-No wifi at all even though it is advertised so. -Small room, but enough for one night
Review 36:- Easy to find when coming out of the bus, it is almost straight ahead for a few streets - Nice staff
Review 37:Internet barely works, luke warm shower, dirty towels, can run out of extra towels
Review 38:Good breakfast, luggage storage facilities, friendly staff, cozy heating,
Review 39:The beds were horrible. I woke up with a terribly sore back. The bathroom was so tiny you could barely turn around & the towel rail was in the shower. It was quite overpriced for the room.
Review 40:Jose who runs the hostel is extremely friendly & helpful. Uyuni is a small town but the hostel was very close to the Main Street. It was quite cold but thankfully the room was warm. There was a nice buffet breakfast included in our room rate.
Review 41:The room is cold. They turn off the heating from 10pm to 7am. They do the same with WiFi. Expensive compared with other places in Bolivia.
Review 42:Well located. Reception 24hs a day
Review 43:Shower was not working quite properly....by that I mean it suddenly twist itself, and water was everywhere
Review 44:It was clean, location was good. There was breakfast
Review 45:We had a room on the 3 floor where the shower when using overflooded the room ... so it was more a small swimingpool :p but when we noticed the staff the want to clean to room but couldn't fix the shower though.
Review 46:The staff was realy friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was good.
Review 47:The best hostel during our trip! Very close to the railway station. Extremely nice and helpful owner speaking fluent English. Good breakfast and music. We could take a shower after Salinas and wait for the night train there.
Review 48:Our room is at the First floor facing the main road, heavy trucks passing the road even 2am, dogs barking and trains running at midnight, can only sleep 2-3 hours
Review 49:Hot shower
Review 50:we had a road side room and the curtains were very thin so bright very early on.
Review 51:Marvelous hot water, very helpful staff. Right off the main tourist square. Left our luggage and washing 3 days before as we were going on tour and everything was ready in our room when we got back to check in.
Review 52:wifi did not work at all. keeps shutting down and for 50 bucks a night, i would require my internet. also they didn't accept any dollar bills that had a torn/rip. so i had to exchange money for way less.
Review 53:It was really convenient and walking distance from the train station.
Review 54:Wifi wasn't working, rooms (especially bathroom) not very cleaning or cozy, breakfast wasn't ready on time
Review 55:Good Location, decent breakfast, warm showers
Review 56:like everywhere in Bolivia be prepared for cold nights and a bit sketchy / run down interior
Review 57:Helpful staff, very good breakfast buffet, quiet room (ask fir upstairs and back), unexpected hot shower + heater, right across main plaza
Review 58:Bathroom poorly designed - water everywhere after taking a shower which then didn't drain properly so I was wading through water every time I went to the toilet!
Review 59:Clean rooms with heating, sufficient breakfast and very helpful friendly staff.
Review 60:Nothing.
Review 61:This is an excellent hostel. The owner is the most lovely man who was extremely welcoming and helpful. The wifi was good. The breakfast was good. The owner even let us return after our visit to the salt flats and have a hot shower before our night bus- we will never forget that kindness!!!
Review 62:They recommended a company for a tour of the salt flats, but that company let me down. I got my money back and the manager of the hotel charged me for only one night and not two as a form of apology, but it was a shame.
Review 63:The hotel manager was helpful and spoke great English. The room was pleasant and the heater was appreciated at night.
Review 64:Storage of bags wasn't very secure but no problems. Had to ask reception for hair dryer but at least they had one.
Review 65:Breakfast was pretty good. Make sure you ask for the scrambled eggs (the lady that makes your order only speaks spanish but she will ask either fried or scrambled eggs) - they were delicious! And there was fresh juice too :D Was good to be able to store our luggage. They allowed us to store our bags before checking in too. Very helpful :) Each room has a heater that turns on at certain times in the day. The hostel allowed us to return the day after while waiting for a train and gave us blankets :D
Review 66:The room was cold, dirty, very small and horrible. The bathroom was thesame (and no hot water to hqve a shower) and there wasn't wifi oranyplace to stay ans relax out of the rooms. The employees were morethan unfriendly and didn't care about our necessities. They made uspay in advance and when we complained they cancelled our room! I wouldnever ever recomend this hostel.
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Awful day spent in this hotel. Receptionist that works on the day shift is very rude. We were four so we got 2 double rooms. Toilet in one of the rooms didnt work so the receptionist came to check and instead of apologizing for the situation he implied we had done something in the flush valve. Well, if that only solved our problem... But the toilet continued not flushing for the rest of our stay. On the next morning, we wanted to take a shower but apparently we needed to ask the recepcionist first to turn on the water pump pressure to be able to take a hot shower, which he didnt tell us, so I endep up taking a cold shower with very little water running. After finding out that we "only" needed to ask him to get the hot water running, no one of us could take a proper shower because he kept turning the system off. Well we went off after him and he was nowhere to be seen. We finaly found him in the upper floor cleaning some stuff and I asked him to turn on the pressure because we were late to our tour but he didnt move. I had to ask him nicely again and he left us grumbling something to go turn on the system. Really, this hotel needs to have a receptionist with better personal qualities. And apart from this, wifi is almost non existent.
Review 69:Location is good, just across main tour agencies.
Review 70:I did not expect any luxury, but I guess it is a little bit too expensive for what you get. There was a heater in our room but it was still very cold. Plus, not possible to fully shut the "window" in the bathroom. I may be wrong, but I think we got the biggest (family) room, but still it was too small to "accomodate" all the furniture so we could barely move around the bed, everything seemed old and dusty, plus the view from the window - felt like the movie from the period of Wild West. p.s. wi-fi did not work at all
Review 71:The breakfast was quite good, water was hot. Considering the purpose of the trip to Uyuni, I guess this place is ok for an overnight stay.
Review 72:The wifi is poor but this is a country wide problem in Bolivia.
Review 73:The man at reception, José, was so helpful and friendly. Our room was basic but warm and cozy which is all you need in Uyunai as it's so cold. The breakfast buffet is good too.
Review 74:The staff were excellent! They went above and beyond in accommodating us. We were allowed to check-in early and were given access to a room after check-out to rest before our long bus journey.
Review 75:I don't think I was able to have a hot shower at all. It is a village so things go slow and had to wait quite a bit for breakfast. The couple managing the place is nice but not always around.
Review 76:Close to the main square, restaurants and travel agencies. Had a radiator in the room which is priceless in winter (although I think electricity was shut during part of the night). Has wifi although weak.
Review 77:Only one TV channel in tune, no wifi anywhere until one hour on my final evening and then it was poor. Definitely not what is described
Review 78:Helpful staff and clean
Review 79:Wifi was very poor. Had no connection most of the time. No more than half an hour every day if you're lucky. They say it's because of Bolivia, but restaurants do have decent wifi. Staff was quite indifferent, didn't bother to help when we didn't get hot water. Very expensive hostel for what you get!!!
Review 80:Location was good, but everything is close to the center. Uyuni is quite small. Breakfast was very good, just have to wait a long time to get eggs.
Review 81:The staff here, especially Jose were very very friendly and accomodating. We had a heater in our room which was already on before we arrived, and the hot water did not run out on us (plus it was really really hot which was what we needed). I asked for a hairdryer and they had one for me, and they even arranged for the 4 of us to do a day trip to the salt flats with the hostel (Jose runs day tours), which was personable, friendly, comfortable vehicle, and we chose our own itinerary etc etc. We stayed 2 nights instead of one in the end. Though the hostel is a little older, esp the bathroom, it is very clean and we recommend (we heard lots of stories about hostels with cold water and no heat!).
Review 82:There are hot showers, although the usual poor pressure. The bed was comfortable, there was a heater in our room and the towels were great. They provided us with a hot breakfast at 5.30 in the morning because we were leaving for the airport.
Review 83:To be avoided. Narrow room. Hot water scarce. The main light switch of the bathroom is located.... inside the showroom, near the water jet. We haven't taken a chance to take a shower. The supposed heating of the room is stopped during the night, therefore useless. It was 6 degrees Celsius in our room when we woke up. The bedside lamp on the picture in booking is only here for deco: there is no power plug in that area of the room to light it !! Beds are installed head next to the window. As there is little insulation on the window, glacial air blows during the night onto your head and face. Main entrance and lobbys/stairs pretty much open to outside temperature. Wifi seldom working Personnel the bolivian way: no hello, no thank you, no bye bye, no smile, no nothing. All of this for a scandalous 45 USD. Worth 10 USD max, like a youth camp.
Review 84:Breakfast is the only correct thing in this place
Review 85:You will probably have to walk up a lot of stairs to get to your room. We had to walk up at least four flights, which can be annoying with lots of luggage and the high altitude. We had a 3 person room with a single bed and a bunk-bed. I prefer to have 3 single beds but this wasn't a huge deal. The room was pretty small though so prepared to be a little crammed.
Review 86:Great hostel for a short stay in Uyuni. The breakfast included a lot of stuff (juice, hot chocolate, milk, hot tea, yogurt, bread, fruit, eggs). No problem with the hot water for showers. Location was great, but Uyuni is small so everything is close anyway. Accepted Bolivianos and US dollars.
Review 87:VERY COLD especially when power went out. Definitely need a heater. Our room didn´t have thick curtains and the light from the hotel sign was very bright in the window.
Review 88:Near tourist agents and restaurants Breakfast was decent and plenty to eat. Shower was warm
Review 89:Wifi didn't work during the day. There was a shared kitchen advertised however we were not allowed to use it. The staff appeared stressed out and was not willing to compromise.
Review 90:We were allowed to check in at 5am which was fantastic. The buffet breakfast was amazing and the room was nice and warm with a hot shower.
Review 91:Young lord speaks very apparently. And I can't eat the breakfast, so he exempted the price from the before day's dinner. It reminds me of good impression. Muchas grcias!
Review 92:Staff (José) was very friendly and helpful; breakfast was amazing (cheese, ham, bread, butter, jam, cereals, real coffee!!, ...); location is good; heating in the room!
Review 93:We found blood stains in our bed. Overall the place is not clean and very very old. The bed was horrible. If you have other options please use them (or go and do not expect much for your 50 USD).
Review 94:Staff was very nice. Location is good.
Review 95:No wifi connection in our room on 2nd floor -had to sit in reception.
Review 96:Breakfast was very good-lots of options. Also it was a good location opposite the drop off point for many of the Salar de Uyuni tour companies.
Review 97:The manager was a rude young man, who wanted us to pay before seeing theroom. When I asked to see the room, he ran upstairs ahead (rememberUyuni is at high altitude) & didn't wait for me. He didn'toffer to help with our bags 3 floors up, although a very kind cleaningguy could see we were struggling & helped. The room was north facing(ie into the sun because it's southern hemisphere) & thecurtains were left open, do it was caking hot & we just wanted torest. The bed & pillows were uncomfortable, do I couldn't sleepat all. The bathroom gave onto the corridor, with a window, so you couldsee people on the stairs when you went into the bathroom. Urgh! We paid370 Bolivar = £37, double what paid for a far better room in a betterHostal in Tupiza.
Review 98:The fact that the Hostal is in Uyuni & there was a very kindcleaning guy there who helped us carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs. My advice: if you can afgord it, stsy in one of the salt hotels by thesalar, not uyuni.
Review 99:yeah the wifi... but lets be honest.. you can survive without having wifi connection on every single inch in your room
Review 100:Uyuni is a hub for everyone travelling by to go to the salares. And the oro blanco with the very nice owner family was a good stay with its central location.you are close to the agencies and all the restaurants. would go back again.
Review 101:When it was strong wind outside it was very breezy in the room. Very loud at night (they were celebrating something that night I guess). The price is too high for such hotel.
Review 102:The breakfast was very good. Location is good and the guy at reception very helpful.
Review 103:- Breakfast is very basic. - The hostel doesn't have elevators. - We were woken up before sunrise by early travelers walked pass our room.
Review 104:- It's very close to the train station and bus station to Machu Picchu. Lots of restaurants nearby. Very convenient. - They offered to pick us up at the train station, which was very helpful because we arrived at night when it was pouring rain. - Wifi was okay. - They allowed us to leave luggages there after we checked out and went to Machu Picchu. - Staffs can speak English and they gave up a local map. They also reminded us to bring documents and passports to Machu Picchu.
Review 105:Stairs
Review 106:The property is situated close to the main area and it is a 5 minute walk to the restaurants and local stores. Jose is great and is very helpful caring our bags upstairs and making sure we knew about the local parade which was about to happen.
Review 107:It was very near to tourist's offices, restaulants, shops and main streets. The breakfast was fresh and good taste. They also served "Tea of coca-mate" that was good for my headackes. The widows of the room faced to the street and get warm sunshine.
Review 108:Expensive for the quality of the rooms, but this may be Uyuni in general
Review 109:Good location, especially for the tour agencies and town square area. Great breakfast. Warm bedding.
Review 110:Wifi in Uyuni will never be good so don't judge this hostel based off it. It's clean, the staff are nice and helpful, and it's close to the main tour operators. Breakfast was alright: the coffee is incredible.
Review 111:The wifi. Perhaps this is a Bolivian thing. Used local Internet cafe, but got a worrying message from Google, making hotel wifi all the more important,
Review 112:The shower was beautifully hot, the towels were gorgeous and the breakfasts the best for months. Also the manager was incredibly helpful and informative. Couldn't have been better.
Review 113:Only public area has wifi and mostly slow or even no signal. one day no water.
Review 114:we woke up the manger in 6am and can early check-in. so nice. the bed is so so but breakfast is awesome with eggs and fruit. Location is great cuz cross the street you can join the tour to salar.
Review 115:Water is not very hot. the guy at the reception doesn't wants to show us the WIFI password.
Review 116:Location, just opposite to the travel agent for Uyuni salt flat tour. Breakfast is good too!
Review 117:This hostel is way overpriced. The manager is not respectful to guests, and the water doesn't really work. Good luck flushing the toilet!
Review 118:The breakfast buffet was wonderful!
Review 119:At first there was no hot water. Then there was no water running at all. The hotel changed the wifi password without notifying guests. Even when the wifi worked, it was slow. The hotel manager wasn't very considerate of his guests.
Review 120:The breakfast was nice.
Review 121:The facility is old.
Review 122:Very close to the station and convenient for anything & anywhere. Staffs were really nice, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also good.
Review 123:As other people said, wifi doesn't really work, but whatever. The only problem for me was the shower. There wasn't a lot of hot water and the floor, no matter what you did, ended up pretty wet. For a night that didn't bother much, but if you stay longer I think it can be a pain...
Review 124:I don`t think you can demand too much of a place like Uyuni and, if you are not fussy, Oro Blanco has good value for money. José, the owner, is a nice guy, whiling to give all information you need. We stayed in a double bedroom and the beds are large and comfortable. It was a good rest after a night bus trip.
Review 125:It can be a bit loud if you have one of the back wall rooms bc of the train station nearby but after a 3 day tour of Uyuni or a sunrise/sunset tour you'll be tired enough to sleep through it. Wi-Fi when it works is superb but don't expect consistency.
Review 126:Jose who it seems runs the hostel is incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating! Heck, everyone from his wife who's pregnant with their second kid to the abuelo who hangs around the hostel is super friendly! Jose went out of his way to make sure guest were happy and comfortable. They are linked together with the cafe/restaurant next door and offers a more then decent breakfast included in your stay. Located across the street from nearly all the main Uyuni Tour providers(just a friendly warning but, avoid Brisa Tours and guide Juan) and the main courtyard with the more touristy restaurants and corner stores.
Review 127:Wifi only works between 10am and 2 pm. Very noisy hostel with owners child running up and down the halls screaming from early in the morning till late in the night. Rooms very small
Review 128:Close to the train station and therefore you can hear the trains departing.
Review 129:Great location and a lovely owner. They prepared breakfast to take away for us as we were leaving before breakfast time.
Review 130:The receptionist was often missing and there was no one to replace him The WiFi works only at the reception (not always, either)
Review 131:Buffet breakfast Welcoming staff Clean rooms, showers with hot water in each room Moderate pricing
Review 132:None
Review 133:Owner of this hostel mr.Jose and his wife they are very friendly, helpful and kind. He was taking care of all the guests very well. Comfortable bed, free breakfast and, laundry was reasonable price.. Everything went well while I stayed there.
Review 134:Bed was not so comfortable WiFi didn't work in the room Bit expensive
Review 135:Extremely kind! Jose is a very nice man who arranged a very nice breakfast for us because we had to leave early to the airport. Location is central. Shower is warm. Next to the hotel is a small café to relax and possible to eat something
Review 136:The room was dusty and not very clean. I was not sure if the bed sheet was fresh. It smelled of old dust. No heater thin blanket and therefore pretty cold. Hot water was not always available.
Review 137:Breakfast was good, compaired to the room. 朝食は悪くない。
Review 138:The wifi does not work and the owner will tell you that wifi doesn't work in there entire of uyuni! The room does not look like the pictures and is not comfortable. The place is falling apart and just truly dire. Don't stay here! There is no hot water unless you shower at 4pm which runs out quickly and the water barely runs anyway.
Review 139:The breakfast was very nice. The rooms were clean as was the restaurant but the place is falling down. The hostel is near to the train station, meters away and you are opposite tour agencies for the salt flats.
Review 140:The shower pressure/heat was just OK, and the wifi was spotty (but that's true of all of Uyuni, so not the hostel's fault apparently).
Review 141:The proprietor (can't remember his name!) was amazing - so helpful and bent over backwards for us. He was kind and made sure we were comfortable. The hostel is a no-frills kind of place, but did the trick for what we needed.
