Reviews for Auberge d'Alsace Hotel de France
Review 1:Definitely doesn't deserve 4 stars. Rooms are like coming out of a German police tv program from the 80's (it was like going back in time...). It smells of cigarettes everywhere (including the corridor of the rooms at the third floor). 90% of the "Bar lounge" is taken by the "Fumoir" (smoking zone). The small non-smoking area is poorly located (in the walk way) and a lot less comfortable than the fumoir making non-smoking guest feel they are in second rate area. The hotel is no more looking as advertised in their pictures. The hotel is very clean but tired. The prices paid via Booking.com should have given us a view on the Semois (according to the price advertised everywhere in the hotel), We ended up with a small room with view at the rear of the hotel with mansarded ceiling. No tea/coffee making facilities in room (which most basic of hotels has these days) The ironing facilities are actually located in the middle of the corridor of the guest rooms.
Review 2:Great Location, Friendly staff, lovely breakfast.
Review 3:The rooms are a little tired with the bathrooms cramped as they have been built inside the existing room, at least the 2 rooms we saw were. The first room we were offered was the one allocated having booked via Booking.Com was very dark and depressing but they swapped us without too much trouble. Lots of traffic noise front and back of the hotel (some of us were at the front and some at the back).
Review 4:Breakfast was good. Staff very friendly. Very close to lots of nice restaurants along the river and the castle.
Review 5:Road outside the front of hotel noisy all night long and so was the road at the back where my friends were staying
Review 6:Convenient to town centre and motorcycle parking catered for
Review 7:No airco in a very hot room - then again we didn't expect it to be there at this pricepoint. This is a Hotel which is "stuck in time" and especially that's why we booked it.
Review 8:Lovely people all over the hotel, very helpful and friendly. Efficient check-in and check-out, really great price. Perfect "base" for exploring Bouillon and the neighbourhood
Review 9:The room was too small for the both of us, and very old fashioned in style. The beds, in particular the pillows were litterally a nightmare. In addition, the bathroom did not have a proper door so you may share lots of sounds with your travelling companion
Review 10:The staff was very friendly, the breakfast was rich
Review 11:Room a little dark and dated at the back of Hotel. Was given the option to upgrade to river view something I would do if staying again.bed seen better days.
Review 12:Very nice welcome by Hotel staff. Big room. Very good evening meal fair price
Review 13:Wifi didn't work in our bedroom but did downstairs. Not a major issue though and we didn't go to check our emails!
Review 14:Quite dated but traditional, lovely staff and clean rooms. Right in the centre of town, a stone's throw from the castle and river, an ideal base for exploring the Ardenne.
Review 15:Awful mattress, very strange room design (synthetic carpet on the walls of the toilet and bathroom)
Review 16:Delicious breakfast, attentive stuff, good location, average price
Review 17:The bathroom was extremely tight for space. I found my elbows knocking against the walls whether in the shower or shaving at the sink. There is no private parking so it is all on-street.
Review 18:The lady who met us was very helpful and did everything she could to sort out parking for us. We had arrived on a festival day and Bouillon was crammed with people. In the evening there was enough street parking after the festival-goers had departed. The meal in the restaurant was especially good - local, traditional dishes, a nice selection of Belgian beers and it was very reasonably priced. The room was furnished in what might be a 1930s style but quaint, for all of that, and comfortable enough if a bit cramped. The hotel overall has a very old-world charm and is full of old artefacts, furnishings and other items of interest. The location is just across the road from the river and a short walk from the centre of Bouillon.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:Excellent food for diner and breakfast, Staff and service were very helpful & attentive, Great nights sleep, very comfortable room & bed, Great location within town,
Review 21:Booked riverview rooms in January 2014 upon arrival July were allocated 3 rooms at the rear overlooking a noisy road not appreciated as we travelled from Germany and detoured here for a peaceful evening. Paid only 10 euros less in total for a poor nights sleep.
Review 22:location
Review 23:Wifi only in communal area and connection variable. Front door locked at dusk, have to ring a bell, no key to front door given
Review 24:Good location close to the river at edge of town centre
Review 25:The rooms are small.
Review 26:Great staff. The location is perfect. Very nice breakfast!
Review 27:The diner was fantastic, local products and fresh!
Review 28:friendly staff,very comfortable
Review 29:Excellent welcome, wonderful food
Review 30:How the hotel is run
Review 31:Excellent river views. Easy access to town, castle etc.
Review 32:not a shower but a bath
Review 33:the very nice welcoming although the hostel was normally closed, a big & good breakfast
Review 34:Nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner four nights out of the seven and the food was excellent.
Review 35:Food
Review 36:shower room was tiny
Review 37:very friendly staff, clean rooms, good breakfast, great location
Review 38:Room,very old fashioned , blankets, very old TV, little room to move inside the room .
Review 39:Breakfast excellent
Review 40:The hotel had a very old musky smell and as a family we didn't like the stuffed animals and china dolls everywhere. Our room seemed very tired and in need of some time spent on it.
Review 41:Welcoming and friendly staff and the food was fine.
Review 42:TERRIBLE!!! I sent an e-mail (in french) telling that we didn't want to have o room under the roof in the penthouse because of the heath – in that case we would cancel the reservation. But that'´s what we got, though we came early in the afternoon. Extreamly hot!!! Sloping cealings on two sides: we hit our heads in the cealing getting out of the bed, and also if we wanted to look out of the tiny window. The bed is a small ”grand lit” with a cavity in the middle, a short bed as well; we slept with our feet outside ( I´m not tall, just 1,62m), lumpy pillows and outworn plaids. You can't hang the showerhead on the wall, it's unpleasant to hold in the hand while it's broken (ironflakes), the water don't flow out from the bathtube so you will stand in water over your ankles. The wall-to-wall carpet is dirty. The extremely small TV is striped so you can't hardly see anyting. There are heavy traffic on both sides of the hotel. In the front of it, there are dusty, faded plastic chairs and tables. There is an odd smell in the corridor, probably due to the carpets(!) on the walls. There is a mold odor in the restaurant (we didn't eat there while I'm allergic. Rather poor breakfast. When people leaves their tables at breakfast the staff empties the plates and cups directly on the tables and stacks the china in a corner of the room, and left on all the tables are piles of garbage: eggshells, teabags, used napkins, bread, opened butterpackets, jam... DISGUSTING !!! The staff(owners?) seems to hate their job (but the dark girl is nice, maybe she hates her job too, however, she's professional enough not to show it.

Review 44:Great location in beautiful Bouillion. The room was nice and spacious with nice comfy chairs. The decor of the place was old world really interesting.
Review 45:The lift could only realistically hold one person with their luggage so it took time for us all to get to our room and there was only 5 of us in three rooms, hate to think what it would have been like if there had been a coach party.
Review 46:Everything about this hotel looked good right from the time we pulled up outside. There was no problem for them in letting us park our Motorcycles right outside the main door. The rooms were really comfortable and clean. The bar area was under refurbishment but the staff were more than willing to fetch us all a drink and bring it to our table. The breakfast was a sight to behold, there was just so much choice, and of course the price was what we were happy with.
Review 47:Decor and environment very dated, in need of upgrade. Room smelt'musty', many many smokeres have obviously stayed there over theyears!! (And possibly some dogs!) No proper door to bathroom and noshower over bath, although did have a hand held shower attachment. Justexpected a better standard for 92 Euros/night.
Review 48:Friendly family run hotel
Review 49:Shower could have been better, but that's just minor wear and tear.
Review 50:All of it. Friendly staff, location, food, drink, comfy beds. The 6 of us in our group had no problems at all. Most of the rooms were larger than expected. Lift was a bonus for motorcyclists with loads of luggage and the bikes could be parked outside.
Review 51:the room was tired and in need of renovation. The double bed was small and uncomfortable, the pillows were lumpy and hard. not a good sleep. No good fresh fruit for breakfast - mouldy oranges, soft apples.
Review 52:The hotel is right in town, easy walk to shops, restaurants & up to the castle. The triple room was spacious with a small fridge too. Clean. breakfast was OK - breads and yoghurt & eggs. The castle visit is fantastic - & in summer they do night tours!
Review 53:Very friendly staff, very helpfull. Very good meals, very good price too, The environment is very beautiful and the hotel is located just underneath the castle
Review 54:The staff was so friendly and helpful. We travelled with our pet catand the staff made sure we were happy and comfortable. The hotel isbeautiful and the minute one walks in one feels the tranqulity ofthe surroundings. The restuarant is worth mentioning. Everything wasjust so grand.
Review 55:The room was cramped with poor standard of lighting and suffered from the same complaint as all Continental hotel, that is, no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
Review 56:Very conveniently situated in Bouillon. Would we stay there again? Almost certainly not. This was our third visit to Bouillon in four years and we feel we have had all it has to offer. Our room at the back of the hotel was rather cramped and full of unnecessary furniture. The lighting consisted of spot lights over the bed and these were far too bright for reading in bed. Breakfast was adequate but nothing to get excited about, though all-in-all it was very good value compared to an equivalent hotel in the UK
Review 57:The lift is small and very basic but still probably better than trying to carry luggage up the small and tightly twisting staircase. I would not like to have to use the staircase in an emergency!
Review 58:This hotel is in a lovely location in easy walking distance of many shops and restarunts of varying types. The hotel is a bit old fashioned with many stuffed animals about the place, some may find this a bit creepy other will think it adds character. The triple room was large and had plenty of room for three adults and all our motorcycling gear. Our friends double room was not quite so spacious but definately adequate. The hotel restaurant prices were on the high side so we eat out. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and of good quality. Although not what I would call secure the hotel had an area set out for motorcycle parking. There did not appear to be a private parking area for cars.
Review 59:What a beautiful place. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Tha location at the edge of the river Semois is just beautiful, then to the left of the building is the castle, a visit to which is compulsory. This was our second visit, and I am sure, not the last. I must make a mention of the restaurant. The food was of a very high standard and well worthy of any I have experienced before. I would recommend this hotel to anyone
Review 60:Their wifi was not working in the hotel for some reason even thoughthere was a router outside in the hall and was not "as advertised."There was a computer that was for public use, but it was disappointingto not be able to access the internet in our room. Also, I thought wewere supposed to have a bathtub and shower in our bathroom...but theygave us a room with only a shower, so that was disappointing in thebeginning.
Review 61:The location was wonderful since it was so close to the castle, kayaking, hiking, and the downtown area of Bouillon. We were about 2minute walk away from everything! The continental breakfast was good andvery French-style. The room for 3 persons was nice with a living areawith a table, a couch, and two chairs! Good lighting in the room fromtwo full windows, but with large drapes to block the light in themorning. Housekeeping did a great job every day.
Review 62:Bit dated
Review 63:Cosy feel
Review 64:Bathrooms were a little small
Review 65:Staff were great. Rooms good. Food excellent. Fantastic value.
Review 66:Food was fantastic and the staff were charming, friendly and very welcoming.

Review 68:Poor breakfast, only public parking. It is a 3* hotel at 4* price.
Review 69:Excellent location, clean.
Review 70:Excellent location by the river and close to a super town.
Review 71:We have stayed twice at this hotel and on both occasions found it very pleasant, with friendly and helpful staff and a lovely location by the river.
