Reviews for Hotel La Porte de France
Review 1:Room did not correspond to pictures. We paid extra for a family room with 2 double beds on the picture, turns out it was one single bed and a single bed made out of a couch in very poor state. Breakfast was uneatable, croissants super dry and clearly one or two days old, cleanliness in bathroom more than poor, staff speaking no english at all, in spite of their add saying the contrary. very unpleasant experience and not recomandable
Review 2:no brown bread for breakfast (except for the last day of our stay). bad acoustic isolation, so we could hear our neighbours in the room next door when they arrived late at night
Review 3:beautiful location near the river, with plenty of leisure activities and good restaurants at a walking distance from the hotel
Review 4:The basics really let this hotel down. I'm not sure if I've ever been in a less clean bathroom. The staff were less than friendly, the food average and the wine on offer was both appalling and hideously overpriced. There's no excuse for this in Europe. France is rapidly edging itself out of being a premium wine producing nation but there is still some. Otherwise source your wine from Spain for goodness sake. €40 for a bottle of wine that is utterly, utterly undrinkable is inexcusable.
Review 5:This hotel is located in a beautiful village with views of the river and heritage buildings.
Review 6:Room small & in need of makeover & could have been cleaner. Lift tiny & not safe for young families
Review 7:Bar/restaurant good with plenty of tables outside to soak up the sun. Breakfast good.
Review 8:No bad experience but the rooms were very small even for Europe.
Review 9:The location is good, just at the base of the fort and on a main street in town. Lady looking after breakfast was very attentive.
Review 10:We have stayed here before for 1 night last year and I gave it a good score. This year we are totally disgusted with it. Firstly there was blood and what looked liked pooh on the sheets. Then there was the awful breakfast. There were flies all over the food a because it was not covered and also dead ones in the orange juice. On 1 morning there was not much breakfast to have. No hot water for tea.we asked a number of times and in the end they gave us a cup of water that tasted like it had come from the hot water tap.they did not replenish the food. We had a major issue with 1 member of staff who short changed us. Ever since that incident she actually refused to serve us if we asked for a drink. This was an ongoing issue for 3 nights. She also told our 2 friends that she won't serve them as they are our friends.she told my husband to shut his mouth and swore at him.then accused us of treating her like a slave ???? All we did was politely ask for a drink. Out of all the staff most were rude except for 1. I do have photos to prove the dirty sheets and flies. I will be writing a complaint to Best Western . When I went to pay my bill has other charges which when I asked about it they wouldn't tell me cause they didn't understand what I was saying.
Review 11:The location parking on site even though it is a public car park and you are not guaranteed a space
Review 12:- the web site states "Free public parking is possible on site (reservation is not needed)." Instead it is a town car park that is located next to the hotel or on the road - the hotel doesn't have ANY parking of its own and therefore security is less than expected and suggested - when booking I asked for secure parking for my motorcycle. This wasn't responded to - I now know why! Shoddy service - the attic room was very small. OK for one night though. - breakfast was average - with one exception, the staff were indifferent and appeared to be going through the routine of serving rather than actually serving
Review 13:- convenient central location - evening meal was passable - the one staff member who appeared to appreciate serving customers
Review 14:The shower curtain over the small bath!
Review 15:Good location in Bouillion. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very nice. The room overlooked the street and outside seating so was fairly noisy.
Review 16:No vegi option on the menu. We did not eat in the hotel all the while aswe like to try different places to eat.
Review 17:All the staff are friendly and helpful but not all spoke english, sosome understanding of French would be useful, though not essential asyou can make yourself understood. Breakfast was very good
Review 18:Wifi wasn't strong in the room, but worked perfectly down in the bar
Review 19:Perfect location between the castle and the river, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Attic room was perfect size for us for a one night stay. Great service at the bar, and a lovely breakfast.
Review 20:everything was fine, except for the matras i slept on. it was lower on the left side than the right side and that is not something i would expect from such a hotel. this is reflected in the poor score for bedcomfort. room 101.
Review 21:The size of the room was small but I knew that before arriving. It was value for money and so we din't mind. Breakfast was OK and not many varieties.
Review 22:Everything about the place was awesome. The location was absolutely superb. The view from your window is so nice and you can see the river flowing besides you. Its free parking everywhere in Bouillon and you can park adjacent to the hotel. The staff was so friendly and he helped us a lot. If I were to come back to Bouillon I would definitely get myself the same hotel
Review 23:the room was too hot, due to pipes underneath the floor. The radiators were off, and the only way to make it comfortable was to leave the window open, also overnight. Normally I am cold nature, but this was uncomfortable. (room 216)
Review 24:location.
Review 25:The room was slightly on the small side.
Review 26:Every member of staff was really friendly and welcoming. We ate in both in the bar and the restaurant, the quality of food was excellent.
Review 27:One problem we had was when my husband ordered a beer at the hotel he was asked to pay straight away he explained I had his wallett and was bringing it down. As soon as I got there I was asked for the money. Now I have no issues with paying straight after each drink but not when the couple on another table wasnt asked to pay. It would have been nice to have had tea coffee in the room
Review 28:Free parking outside the hotel. We had the top floor attic so had nice views. Room was a good size and bathroom was big.there was tea and coffee available on the 2nd floor. Breakfast was very good. Staff when checking in and out were very good.
Review 29:The room had a bay window looking out over the river at the quiet end of town. Room small but nicely decorated and well equipped. Car park was round the corner from the room but free parking spaces were available under the window.
Review 30:atic rooms good value but on the small side.
Review 31:.hotel was good but a bit dated service good breakfast excellent. staff good. position overlooking river nice. public parking to front of hotel but ok.
Review 32:the rooms ive had on the last 2 ocasions of staying here have been small no aircon and next to the lift which is noisy. generaly a good hotel which must have better rooms than which i have been given. so next time i book i will ask for speific requirements.
Review 33:good restaurant, and location,
Review 34:Breakfast was fair to poor. Croissant and pain chocolate were very disappointing as was tinned mixed fruit. The bread, meats and cheese were okay. Some mornings there was a choice of coffe or chocolate - other mornings just self service coffee or hot water (for tea bags).
Review 35:The traditional decor. The bedroom was spacious with a good bathroom and separate toilet. Parking was easy, close and free.
Review 36:Everything was shabby, cutlery was chipped, furniture was stained, theroom had a over powering smell of mould. Staff could not or would notspeak english although they advertise that they do. It may pass as anfamily run B& b but as a Best Western it's a disgrace.
Review 37:Good location and free parking.
Review 38:the rooms were small, the lift minute, the beds narrow. we had No tea making facility. we did not eat in.
Review 39:the location just below the castle, and along the river was great. Car parking was much appreciated. we appreciated the early breakfast on a Sunday morning.
Review 40:Small room, breakfast could be better in quality.
Review 41:Location is great.
Review 42:Nice, comfortable room, good bathroom facilities, good breakfast, staff friendly and helpful
Review 43:bed was a little bit old
Review 44:loved the main breakfast room... very elegant
Review 45:Prices at bar Price in general Breakfast ok but not "wow"
Review 46:Great location Helpful staff Parking Close to castle bouillon
Review 47:It cost 110 euros to have 2 loads of laundry done! Our dinner of beef was so tough we could barely cut or eat it.
Review 48:Great location with parking immediately in front of the building.
Review 49:A bit hot in the summertime. No airconditioning but they gave us fans.
Review 50:Location was terrific! Great town and great breakfast.
Review 51:they charged us 50 more for upgraded room .which in fact was the same as the one we had hired for 120 ..
Review 52:location
Review 53:Resaurant. Not good at all.
Review 54:Great location, very good value.
Review 55:The friendly and trusting staff
Review 56:The hotel needs updating in the rooms. Also Internet speed very slow
Review 57:View, Central position
Review 58:Nothing of note.
Review 59:Location, parking outside.
Review 60:Room could do with some modern lighting, it was a bit dark.
Review 61:Location. Restaurant. Service
Review 62:Toilet a bit confined in attic room
Review 63:Breakfast and nice, old world charm;heard river all night
Review 64:Nice place peacefull nice nature
Review 65:small room
Review 66:close to the center private parking wifi good price
Review 67:Central location Hotel bar and restaurant parking on site
Review 68:No air con on hottest nights of year major drawback rooms very small
Review 69:Position good.Staff very pleasant food good
Review 70:WiFi was weak in our room.
Review 71:Great location and free parking.
Review 72:Wifi was intermittent at night. Small shower cubicle in my room. Tea and coffee not replaced for two days of stay. I dare say if we had asked they would have replenished them, but you shouldn't have to ask.
Review 73:Staff were very polite a d helpful. Position of hotel and car parking. The rooms were clean. Breakfast was adequate. We had a meal at the hotel which was good. For the price it was very good.
Review 74:The room was small and in shabby condition. It is our 3rd visit and the room gets worse each time. We will look elsewhere next time.
Review 75:The location is interesting due to the many performance vehicles that parade around the small harbour.
Review 76:WiFi on the second floor is very weak, doesn't work. Diner/lunch rather poor quality for the price they ask. Rooms are rather small.
Review 77:location, not busy, breakfast, service, warm water.
Review 78:The bathroom was very small--particularly the shower (but otherwise fine).
Review 79:The room was very comfortable and very clean. The attached bistro and restaurant were very nice and the food was above average.
Review 80:The information gives the impression that parking is always available. It isn't, as the car park is open to the public. The corridors and hallways and very dark.
Review 81:The location.
Review 82:We were not booked in, good job we had our Booking.com paperwork with usand they were not full. Room very small, clearly 2 rooms made from one.Very grubby looking but bed clean, bathroom dirty in corners. Hadevening meal at Hotel, worse food ever and half way through meal theywanted us to change our room, they had given us the wrong key but thenchanged their minds. Best Western really should check more clearly onthere Hotels.
Review 83:A bit noisy until midnight as there was no double glazing but then againit was Saturday night. Only big disappointment was that there were notea or coffee making facilities.
Review 84:Location. Set in the beautiful Belgian village of Bouillion overlookingthe bridge and river. You could sit outside, drink beers and watch theworld amble past or easily stroll around the picturesque town.
Review 85:Toilet seat wouldn't stay up. But that was the biggest and only complaint. Is "the pillows were too plump" a complaint? :)
Review 86:Location is at very foot of one of the nicest biker routes. Staff friendly, and they speak enough english to understand, without taking the fun out of my language skills.
Review 87:Unfriendly and dishonest owner, noisy rooms on the 3rd floor. After agreeing on a surcharge of EUR15.00 to upgrade the room because it was located besides the owner’s apartment who has a barking dog, we where charged EUR25.00 at checkout. The owner did not agree to charge EUR15.00 as it was agreed with the clerk after consultation with the owner upon upgrading the room.
Review 88:the location is good
Review 89:All I can think of is that the wifi connection was very poor.
Review 90:Great value for money, good bed, nice room, nice staff, restaurant is good. In the middle of Bouillon so everything is at walking distance. Free parking in abundance.
Review 91:Shortage of english speaking staff. One room not functional and changecould have been avoided. Unaware of price difference after 1st Aprilearly booking cost 90 Euros extra
Review 92:The area
Review 93:No bathtub, but there are rooms with a bathtub. WIFI didn't work most of the time! due to the weather, they said...
Review 94:We stayed in the attic room, or cocoon room as they called it, it was small but very cozy and romantic with a comfortable bed and wooden beams on the ceiling. Nice view over the river. Big closetspace as well, flatscreen tv on top. Breakfast was good (buffet with bacon, eggs, breadrolls, croissant, fruit, yoghurt,...)they bring a can with coffee/tea or hot chocolate to the table. coffee/tea in the hallway. very clean.
Review 95:PRICE
Review 96:Hotel is right in the centre of town and yet we experienced a very quiet night here. No car parking on site but free car park and free street parking right outside, aLthough we stayed at the end of the summer season so it might be a little harder to find a space right out the front in high season although you can drop off cases and find a space over the road near the kayaking. Has a restaurant and bar with seating outside (weather permiting!). I thought it a touch expensive for the quality of room fixtures and fittings compared to others we had stayed in during our road trip in Germany. We had stayed in Dinant on our outbound journey and much preferred this town to Bouillon!
Review 97:We had a warm greeting and very friendly, helpful staff. We extended ourstay to two nights as we liked the "feel" of the place. We had excellentmeals in the restaurant and in the bar. Our room had a big bat windowwith views along the river.
Review 98:The hotel was effectively closed. There were no bar facilities orrestaurant facilities and we were the only guests. The hotel was openfor rooms only. Maybe this was just out of season. Also some confusion over the charges at checking out and I am contacting them separately over this issue.
Review 99:The location. Very pretty and ideally situated for touring the ArdennesForest Region.
Review 100:Tiny room. Dirty cutlery.

Review 106:food in restaurant
Review 107:nice position of hotel, friendly and helpful staff
Review 108:room a bit small
Review 109:good location to explore the area will use again as a base
Review 110:Hotel was great value for money. Perfect location, no need to use car during the whole stay as everything was within the walking distance.
Review 111:The young Lady at check in, comes across as rather miserable.
Review 112:The location is excellent if you want to visit Bouillon.
Review 113:The room was extra small. The staff should speak basic English.
Review 114:Breakfast and the location was great.
Review 115:good position nice food freindly staff clean rooms
Review 116:Very friendly welcome. Helpful and efficient staff.
Review 117:this hotel should be rated lower than three stars. It is very modest and should be described as such on your site

Review 127:Not a good ratio price-quality.
