Reviews for Hotel l'Ermitage
Review 1:I arrived at 20.30 and the restaurant was closed, there was nothing to eat and the staff was not helpfull at all. The next morning I had to leave at 07.30 and I was told that there was no breakfast for me. Breakfast was only served starting at 08.30. The staff is not friendly!
Review 2:No common area for us to all get together after dinner except their overpriced bar. We had our own wine/liquor and they would not allow us to sit in their lounge. Dinner was overpriced and very slow to bring the food.
Review 3:Nice area, and quaint setting for the hotel.
Review 4:Small room, breakfast was "ok", dinner was overpriced, with small portions and took WAY too long for food to arrive.
Review 5:Nice, quaint hotel, across the road from a pretty creek.
Review 6:Our room was very (and I mean VERY) small and barely provided enough space for the two of us, let alone our motorcycle gear. Doors of bathroom and wardrobe interfere with each other. In rainy weather, the room is rather dark. I found the bed too soft.
Review 7:Clean place, friendly staff. Very good restaurant, good breakfast (try the ham!). Rather quiet place, in spite of its location alongside a road. Motorcycles can be parked in a garage (+2.50 EUR per day).
Review 8:Waited 40 mins for entree to be served. Wines only by bottle or half. The grand bistrot menu would have been more special with glasses chosen to accompany each course.
Review 9:Grand bistrot menu was very good.
Review 10:Although out of the village it was only 1 mile into the village, so you can easily go into the village in a night. Paths all of the way. Lovely village with plenty of restaurants.
Review 11:It was a pitty that we had to pay 5 euro's for storing the bikes in the garage overnight. There was a little unpleasant smell when entering the hotel. But not in the rooms.
Review 12:Very friendly staff. Very familiar. We felt at home. We had a great dinner in the restaurant.
Review 13:Crossing the road to/from the carpark & garden.
Review 14:Lovely old b&w timbered house, nice stream-side garden; but the road splits them ! Good service ( in garden also ) and comfortable. Lovely gorge-set community.
Review 15:As the beds are 2 king singles together I kept falling in the centre , and there was only one pillow between 2 people and they had no more
Review 16:Highly recommended
Review 17:A little late breakfast for early risers. The bedlinnen could use a make-over.
Review 18:The restaurant! Super, exquisite meals from the chef who is also the son of the house. Coffee brought to the room late at night as we are early risers. Good storage of bicycles at a small price. Nice modern bathrooms.
Review 19:Unwillingness of kitchen staff to help some sportsman out with their requirement for carbohydrate rich diner.
Review 20:Location is nice and neir the City centre of Houffalize.
Review 21:The waitress in the evening was extremely unhelplful - borderline rude. Fortunately, the chef came out and smoothed things over and helped us out. We're the paying customer and what we were asking for - dessert and a glass of wine at 20:30 - didn't seem to be an outrageous request.
Review 22:The setting by the river was pretty.
Review 23:Small rooms Decor dark and dingy No bottom sheet on bed Breakfast mediocre Towel rail i bathroom did did not work Far too expensive for what you get
Review 24:Location was ok
Review 25:Bathroom door is thin . No privacy . Breakfast is very poor . No fridge ( minibar) Staff was rude . We need to extend for a day they said there were fully booked . When I checked from booking.com they had few more rooms available . They are very sad there .
Review 26:Location . In a woods .
Review 27:beds & pillows were not good and worn out room was very small too much noise from other rooms and corridor (downside of an old building)
Review 28:very nice location excellent dinner friendly staff
Review 29:Nothing

Review 33:Breakfast in the weekend starts too late. Steak from the restaurant very tough.
Review 34:Good value for money
Review 35:Very small room and bed Too expensive for what it was No wifi although the advertised it
Review 36:Clean Good location Nice bathroom
Review 37:Position. Not able to park bike out of the rain.
Review 38:Breakfast excellent
Review 39:Dinner was superb - taste, quality, and presentation. Same for breakfast. And the people there were great with us too!
Review 40:maybe a too small room for long stay
Review 41:good restaurant. quiet place parking in the front of the hotel
Review 42:Customer service could be improved. Some members of staff were very helpful, others appeared to have a bit of an attitude problem.
Review 43:The initial bedroom we were in was very small and without any space (except a single wardrobe) to put anything away (we were booked for 2 nights). Our view was over what looked like scrubland, and all in all we felt quite claustrophobic, so we asked for a change of room. Our room was changed, giving us more space, so our second night was more comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, plentiful and different on each day.
Review 44:Towels could do with replacing.
Review 45:Only ate breakfast there ourselves but the selection was excellent & delicious. We were told by other guests that dinner was excellent, the menu certainly looked good.
Review 46:One of our room's was a little bit cramped, but the bath was spacious and everything very clean & comfortable. I would definitely recommend this location.
Review 47:I loved the building itself, the terrace and being able to relax by the river. The owner's were friendly and helpful and the food delicious. It was very quiet for sleeping. Overall, charming!
Review 48:Nylon Sheets are not acceptable these were a 1950,s and is not acceptable today especially at the price of the room. The food was tasteless and was suppose the be gourmet, which it was not and very overpriced
Review 49:not a lot
Review 50:The staff were very unfriendly. On arrivial the carpark was full and I parked at the side where two other cars were already parked. After been shown to our room, I went back to the car to get the baggage and the babys food. I told the receptionist I was parked at the side and she told me to move the car as it was forbidden to park there, I tried to explain that the carpark was full but she got abusive and told me there was another carpark to the left. I told her I would unload the car first with the babys food etc and whilst doing this she started shouting at me, telling me my baby was not her concern and that I must move it now this second or leave. The entire restaurant were now watching her and I still cant work out why she tried to stop me unloading the car when I was half way up the stairs anyway. The hotel was very basic with limited small towels, a tiny portable tv and a basic room. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special and overall I found the place a little expensive and unfriendly!
Review 51:The appearance of the Hotel, the remote location etc
Review 52:We could not have water for free in the restaurant (had to pay 5 euro) and we had to pay to put our bikes in the garage. Ridicoulous.
Review 53:The food in the restaurant was oké.
Review 54:This small family-run hotel was the first stop for us on a leisurely two-week motoring holiday to Tuscany and it set the standard for the whole trip. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful, the food was wonderful and the setting was a delight. It is outside the town of Houffalize on the road to La Roche en Ardenne. The Ardennes countryside is stunningly beautiful.
Review 55:Showing little personal interest, could be a more personal host at this small scale Food and drinks good, but definitely overpriced
Review 56:Quality of food Clean room No fuzz
Review 57:There is nothing that I did not like. The TVs were a little small but who goes there to watch TV?
Review 58:I liked the setting, the surroundings, the service, the breakfast, the style of the hotel. I liked everything
Review 59:Nothing.
Review 60:Small family hotel in a quiet location just out of Houfflasize facing the river. The room was clean and staff very helpful. The meal in the hotel restaurant was of excellent standard. We would recommend this hotel.
Review 61:In order to drink and hang out in the outdoor space you have to purchase drinks from the hotel. We had brought some stuff with us and had to stay in the room to drink our wine but we still managed to drink at the bar as well. It just would have been nice to enjoy the stuff we brought outside in the hotel's beautiful lawn along the water:)
Review 62:This hotel was amazing! The staff was so friendly to us even with a little language barrier. We had a great breakfast in the dining room every morning and wanted to have dinner but never made it back in time! The food smelled delicious! The rooms were very nice and clean. The hotel had a great bar and outdoor space to enjoy drinks along the creek. Just simply beautiful and so relaxing for a weekend getaway. Our dog loved it there as well. The owner had jack russels that were very sweet but were not as excited about our dog being there:) but there was no problem.
Review 63:Everything was great, nothing negative to say.
Review 64:Staff were very keen and happy to assist. The property was very relaxing and the restaurant was superb.attention to service was brilliant, always ensuring our wine glass was full.
Review 65:Hotel L'Ermitage is a beautiful hotel centrally located in the heart of the Ardennes. It is very easy to travel to neighboring villages, like Bastogne, La Roche, and Malmedy. There are many World War II sights in the area. Hotel L'Ermitage also has an excellent gourmet restaurant for dinners and a complimentary full breakfast.
Review 66:The evening meal--5 course--was wonderful. The chef prepared every dish perfectly. Also, the dining room was beautiful in red walls and wood paneling. Very romantic. Our room was very good and the bathroom had just been renovated and was bright and functional--easy to move around in. I would definitely stay here again. T & S
Review 67:No bath in our room, but excellent shower. Would have prefered aslightly bigger room.
Review 68:The setting - the river, trees all round, very picturesque. Peaceful - afew other room noises and a few cars along the road, but excellent for agood night's sleep. The food - not cheap but well worth using therestaurant. The staff - very pleasant and helpful.
Review 69:Very cozy, small family hotel in a beautiful location. We stayed with our dog (Labrador) who enjoyed the hospitality of l'Ermitage owners as well. My husband and I spent a great Easter holiday there and we will be happy to come back again in the summer time.
Review 70:Menu should have "less food" option and more vegetables.
Review 71:The location
Review 72:Communication was a bit challenging, but people were friendly enough to struggle through with us.
Review 73:Location. Food. Room size. Would stay again!
Review 74:I was not able to find any wifi.
