Review 14:Lovely quirky decoration with so much to look at. Very friendly welcome and so hospitable. Gorgeous unusual breakfast choice, top quality produce, served in bespoke locally made pottery. Bedroom was fabulous, huge bed and a bath with a TV! High quality furnishings and a fully stocked complimentary room mini-bar. Made to feel so welcome and can't wait for a return stay.
Review 15:A beautiful small boutique hotel, excellently run by Carine and her husband, perfect location, full of character and charm. I used what is called the Glory bedroom, it was exquisite, the bathroom fabulous, as you will see if you book it.
Review 16:Great location with free parking and such a sumptuous breakfast that even our local tour guide goes there for his birthday breakfast! The owner, Carine Declercq, has created a beautiful haven where you will be warmly welcomed by her, provided a room with every amenity. She provided assistance with the parking, gave us helpful information about restaurants, and was so gracious in every way. I would return to this small hotel in a heartbeat!
Review 17:There was nothing to dislike with this hotel.
Review 18:Wonderful, central location, and very welcoming proprietoress. Spotlessly clean room and excellent breakfast. We would love to go back.
Review 19:The owner was so friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. The room had everything you could possibly need and the complimentary mini bar was a lovely touch. The breakfast was superb.
Review 20:Nothing
Review 21:The owners could not do enough to ensure the stay was comfortable and it is clear they care passionately about this. This is not for show and is commendable.
Review 22:Nothing.
Review 23:This is a little gem of a hotel. Away from the hurliburli of the Grote Markt, but near enough for you to amble to. The host & hostess are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts are to die for! Small touches like the bedroom coffee machine was filled with water and was easy to use. Inclusive room bar! All in all one of the best hotels we've stayed in.
Review 24:Nothing at all.
Review 25:Absolutely everything. The owner has thought of everything in this old world charm boutique hotel. No corners are cut to make the rooms, breakfast and hospitality perfect. Not only has Main Street got everything you want on a holiday but it's got extras you hadn't even thought of. Complimentary mini bar, every bathroom essential and luxury, comfortable bed and high quality linen, breakfast served and cooked to perfection while you are waited on like a king or queen. Highest quality ingredients- no expense is spared. Loved our stay there.
Review 26:Our host was so very friendly and hospitable. Main Street Hotel considers every need and whim of a traveller and we were extremely happy with our stay.
Review 27:Quiet, intimate and comfortable but with personal service always available if needed. A place as good as the best we have found in Europe and further afield.
Review 28:This was our second stay and it was as good as the first time. Beautiful room and bathroom, superb breakfasts, and a good location for visiting ypres and surrounding area.
Review 29:Arriving late after a much delayed Ferry crossing due to bad weather the owner made us feel instantly relaxed and reassured by her concerned and friendly welcome. The Hotel is an utter delight beautifully and artfully restored and full of quirky and well chosen artefacts. Our breakfast was more than adequate to ensure we didn't need to eat until supper time. We were just sorry we hadn't decided to stay longer.
Review 30:Leaving.
Review 31:Ieper had its Cat Festival (every 3 years) when we were there. A lot of fun! Carine was a great hostess and breakfast was very very good. She booked Battlefield Tours for us.
Review 32:A welcome drink in lovely surroundings set the scene for our stay. The rooms were beautiful and the inclusive mini-bar, top quality beverages, fresh milk and even crosswords in our room reflected Carine's attention to detail in all aspects of the hotel.
Review 33:A friendly family run hotel, warm welcome and very helpful. Good parking across the road which is free with a card they supply, although you may have to re visit every 3 hrs to change time on card. I was lucky that the owner offered to do this for me! Lovely lady!! Very clean hotel with mini bar and tea/coffee. 5 minute walk to square but overall would recommend it for a comfy stay and good cleanliness. Will use again
Review 34:Do not consider this as a bad experience: just understand that the reason for the three star rating is that there is no elevator, common for small European hotels. There are ground floor rooms for those who need / prefer them. We had no problem with the stairs.
Review 35:This place is a jewel box of a hotel, every detail taken care of. We travel around the world, are blessed to stay at great places everywhere--I would put Main Street right up there with the best of them. Fantastic.
Review 36:A very beautiful hotel with a great location in the heart of Ieper. Carinne made us feel part of her family as soon as we walked in the front door. We felt very comfortable and our room was spacious and well appointed. We want to thank Carinne and her husband for a very memorable stay and we will definitely be back next time we are in Ieper.
Review 37:Nothing at all . We will be back.
Review 38:Helpfulness and friendliness. Room was fantastic, parking in a secure garage and hotel is situated in a central location. Breakfast was great and full of local and home made products
Review 39:Our host(ess), Carinne, created a truly wonderful space for us, in which we could relax, breathe, and generally love the ambience, style and tempo of the beautiful city of Ieper. Don't - I repeat - DON'T - be deterred by the cost! Nothing is too much for Carinne, and there is simply nothing more you could want. An exceptional property; a true labour of love ...
Review 40:No complaints at all.
Review 41:The owner was splendid; we were welcomed and looked after extremely well. Our room was lovely, decorated with imagination and had a large and luxurious bathroom attached. Breakfast was superb and taken in a splendid room. I should recommend anybody visiting Ypres to try to grab a room here; it was outstanding! And a well equipped minibar was free.
Review 42:nothing to dislike at all
Review 43:the breakfast was fantastic, every thing you could ask for. Mostly home made... the rooms were all very different and well thought out, comfy too !!
Review 44:Everything; the welcome, the unique design of the room, the amazing bathroom, the fabulous breakfast. The term "boutique hotel" is over-used but this was a perfect example of what one should be - a unique, small hotel where commercial decisions are over-ruled by the heart.
Review 45:The fact that point two percent could not bring it upon themselves to give this hotel the mark is deserves !0.
Review 46:Everything. The position is perfect and the owner greets you like a long lost family member, the hotel is like no other everything is put together with love and the rooms are individual and perfect in every way, they are spotless and the maintenance first class, there is a free in-room bar and a Nespresso coffee machine. The breakfast could keep you inside for hours its that good. If you are not interested in the 1st World War go to Ypres for the town itself you won't be disapointed. Did I say everything was perfect GOOD because it is.
Review 47:Welcoming and comfortable bed and breakfast in a very good location. Well appointed room with a free minibar and everything provided for a relaxing break. First class choice at breakfast with good quality food. Perfect stay.
Review 48:The hotel was individual and with a very high standard of care and attention to detail. Everything you could possibly need or want was provided and the owner was warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. She even sorted out our travel problems when Belgian railways were on strike
Review 49:Lovely room, great bathroom, free mini bar. Wonderful breakfasts - home made bread, pâte and great rice pudding and a good cooked sélection as well. A really lovely owner who was really helpful and gavé us loads of information. Would recommend it.
Review 50:It was all fabulous, absolutely no complaints.
Review 51:The originality of the hotel. Loved the decor, all the quirky furnishings. The room was very comfortable and the double bath with television was an experience. The hospitality was amazing and the host was so knowledgeable about Ypres and the surrounding area. The breakfast was amazing and you must try the rice pudding. Everything was enjoyable about our stay and we will certainly be revisiting. We would highly recommend to others. Nice to find somewhere to stay that exceeded all our requirements and was so different than the normal chain run hotels.
Review 52:We were greeted like long lost friends, given a welcome drink and shown to our wonderful room by the owner. Fabulous attention to detail. An eclectic mix of décor and artifacts. Amazing breakfast with home made breads. The bathroom was devine with an enormous bath and TV. Sheer luxury.
Review 53:There is nothing about this place not to like - unless you're just plain picky.
Review 54:Everything! Made to feel incredibly welcome - owner couldn't be more helpful - really lovely. Our room (Experiment (Science theme) very nice and has a fantastic bathroom. Breakfasts have to be seen to be believed - try the homemade rice pudding with fresh fruit salad and the 'eggy bread' with bacon.
Review 55:Hospitality out of this world, thank you to our hosts, will highly recommend this hotel , ever thing you want from a hotel and more, nothing to much trouble, well done
Review 56:There was everything to like !
Review 57:The softest beds, engaging and tasteful décor, the best appointed bathrooms in any B&B in which I have stayed, an inspired breakfast buffet of fresh local produce - this is THE place to stay in Ieper. It affords a genuine haven from the sensory overload that travelling The Salient can impose. On top of that , our host was charming and accommodating of our very late arrival - so thank you !
Review 58:The Breakfast was just perfect. Lots of choice and beautifully presented. The owner was very friendly and helpful. One of the best hotels we have stayed in.
Review 59:As soon as we had booked, we had a very welcoming personal email from Carine. The quality of everything was exceptional (fabulous shower room too) and the attention to detail superb. The breakfast was amazing - local cheeses, wild boar meat, home-made rice pudding, to mention a few treats- and a choice of home-made breads. It surpassed our expectations. Don't miss it!
Review 60:Everything about this hotel was exceptional . The rooms were full of character and attention to detail impressive. Breakfast deserved a Michelin star. Carine is a wonderful host. Would definitely go back as Ypres is a beautiful place too.
Review 61:Nothing really - we haven't stayed anywhere quite like it before. Worth noting that the stairs to the top (2nd) floor are pretty steep- would not be suitable for some people.
Review 62:Very different, reflecting the owners' individual style. Carine (owner) took a lot of trouble to explain about the Menin Gate, help us with directions in the town, parking etc. Breakfast was excellent- a wide choice, with some cooked items to order.
Review 63:Absolutely nothing
Review 64:This is an absolute gem of a hotel which is beautifully designed, each room having its own individual style. The room we stayed in was spacious, beautifully furnished and had a great spa bath. The complementary mini bar in the room is a really nice touch. The breakfast is probably the best we have ever had in a hotel and is prepared with wonderful, local fresh produce. We will definitely be paying a second visit some time soon!
Review 65:Excellent hotel with every comfort. The rooms were individually styled in an interesting manner with top quality bathrooms and beds. What a breakfast. The buffet was amazing and then there was a menu for cooked options which were all freshly prepared. The mini bar was FOC which made us feel like welcome guests in the owners home. It was just a lovely place.
Review 66:not staying for longer.
Review 67:ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT...That's all that needs saying. Everything was exceptional. Carine the owner could not have been more helpful or hospitable. The hotel is wonderfully decorated and everything has been thought of for you. free minibar, huge bath with it's own TV, huge bed and plenty of space. Then we have the breakfast. Again exceptional we were not wanting for anything. A brilliant hotel, in a lovely town and region. Thank you Carine
Review 68:All types of creature comfort and convenience, lovingly bestowed in this divergent and stylish yet warm and homely Hotel, breakfast is a culinary delight, a rich spread of variety and flavour such as I've never before experienced ! all this was only superseded by the proprietors Generosity, friendliness and attention, no other accommodation for me in Flanders, it has to be Main Street Hotel from now on - Carine you are an Angel !
Review 69:Position - close to main square and Menin gate. Rooms - very well equipped with amazing bathrooms. Breakfast -delicious, with a big selection of hot and cold dishes, home made breads and fresh fruit salad. Staff - Carine could not do enough to help and inform us, from a welcome drink to arranging an excellent restaurant for dinner. Parking - opposite hotel and free. We will be recommending this hotel to our friends and family.
Review 70:Beautiful and uniquely decorated rooms. Very personal service. Great location, easy walk to Menin Gate, "In Flanders Fields" Museum, whole old town.
Review 71:This is at the very top of small top class hotels we have stayed in. The attention to detail in the decor, the perfect breakfast. The great selection of music playing in the background brings a smile to my face. Carine is great fun to chat with. The rooms and bathrooms are beautiful.
Review 72:Well, no lift. The building doesn't look as if it could accommodate one. But Karin carried our bags with a willingness that was typical of everything she did throughout our stay.
Review 73:A quiet location but close to the centre. A very friendly welcome and local information freely given, as was the drinks on arrival and from the fridge. Excellent accommodation and almost perfect facilities. Perfect sleeping conditions; you wouldn't think there was anyone else in the building though we know every room was occupied. And the breakfast! Could anyone not be satisfied with the range of food available and the absolute freshness of it? Would we stay here again? Definitely!
Review 74:Can't think of anything I didn't like.
Review 75:Great friendly welcome with beer, wine and good recommendations for restaurants etc. Lovely room, quirky in a nice way. Five minute walk from the centre of town. Delicious breakfast. We will return soon and ask for the same room (wild).
Review 76:Nothing to dislike.
Review 77:We were greeted by the owner and offered a drink while she gave us details of places of interest in the area. Our room was fantastic....a very well stocked mini bar. The bathroom was total luxury....a large spa bath complete with television. A short 5 minute walk to the centre of Ypres. Fantastic breakfast and a charming and very hospitable host. Would certainly recommend the Main Street Hotel and we look forward to returning.
Review 78:From entering the front door the atmosphere was homely and welcoming. Staff went out of their way to help book bicycles and taxi's. The breakfast is continental and the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced.
Review 79:There is absolutely nothing to dislike
Review 80:Everything. The hotel was superb in every respect. Breakfast to die for, the hostess was extremely friendly and helpful and the decor and cleanliness was first class
Review 81:We loved the whole atmosphere of this hotel. On arrival we were offered a welcome drink while the owner explained everything to do in the area. When shown to our room (all rooms have a different quirky theme) we were shown how to use the equipment and told to help ourselves to the free mini bar, chocolates, nibbles etc. Breakfast was a sheer delight ranging from home made foie gras, pates and breads, to local cheeses and meats. A large variety of cereals, rice pudding infused with vanilla and a large bowl of fresh fruit salad crammed with strawberries was also on offer. For those who like a hot breakfast, a lovely unusual menu of different ingredients was also available. All washed down with a glass of champagne if you wished. We would most definitely return to this hotel and it is a must if you are staying in Ypres.
Review 82:The only thing we would suggest is that they double-glaze their windows for rooms overlooking the main street. The traffic outside is pretty constant until late at night.
Review 83:The friendly reception, the food and the hotel itself. We've stayed in some of the world's great hotels and this is absolutely one of the best. They don't cut corners.
Review 84:We had a superior room (only one left) but worth it. Sensible not to charge for mini bar useage;fantastic breakfast; extremely friendly staff who was helpful without being intrusive.
Review 85:Our warm and welcoming host who immediately resolved the issue with our very very heavy luggage and provided us with a ground floor room which was fabulous including enormous spa bath and outdoor terrace for our use. The breakfast was probably one of the best we have ever experienced with hot freshly cooked options which were really good and a little different from the usual humdrum food. We absolutely loved our all too brief stay at the Main Street Hotel and thoroughly recommend it to any other visit to the lovely city of Ieper.
Review 86:Parking across the road or round the church has 3 hour limit except weekends but it isn't expensive in Ypres.
Review 87:Owners lovely Stefan's pottery The owner's attention to detail - design, comforts, nothing too much trouble Quirky features All rooms individual
Review 88:Wonderfully welcoming owner plus one of the most delicious breakfasts during our stay in Northern Europe (hard to beat homemade wild boar sausage!). After a hard day on the western front the Main Street Hotel feels like home when you return home. One if the best small hotels we have visited in years. Peter. St george utah. Usa
Review 89:The hotel offered everything anyone could wish for for a city break. The breakfast was the best we have ever had on our travels. The hotel proprietors were incredibly friendly and helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Main street hotel .
Review 90:We did not like leaving!
Review 91:Our humbled trip of fathers and sons (4 in party) decided to visit Ypres and we booked to stay at the Main Street Hotel. From that moment on we engaged with the wonderful Carine who helped us plan our visit before we had even arrived. Her hospitality and knowledge of the surrounding area helped make this trip, not only an emotional one, but a memorable one too. Like many other reviews, we have stayed at many hotels over the years but if we could bottle the Main Street Hotel and Carine, my holidays and breaks for the rest of my life would be Perfect. Thank you Carine and one day we hope to return with the rest of our family.
