Reviews for Hostal La Magia de Uyuni

Review 1:No heat at all even though it's dead of winter and negativetemperatures. The host gave us attitude when we asked to turn on theheat in each of our 4 rooms. Rooms are old, dilapidated we anddisgusting. The bathtub faucet was a pipe, as was the sink faucet forone of my friends. Wouldn't step barefoot in this place. Crackedwindows let cold air in. We used duct tape in the cracks to keep heatin, although that didn't help much. Slept in a sleeping bag andfully clothed (jacket, hat and all). Not worth a penny!! Host does notcare at all.

Review 2:Free wifi and that's about it.

Review 3:breakfast too little selection, and restaurant only makes pizza. Most restaurants do not have restaurants built in, so I can't say this is a bad feature, at least saved me a trip outside.

Review 4:staffs are very helpful and accommodating, we had our wedding photos shot at the Salar, when the staffs found out, they redecorated our room with flowers and swan towel arrangements and a free champagne, so I really appreciated that!

Review 5:The place was not clean as you expect, the breakfast was quite poor and, above all, nobody working there has been friendly at all.

Review 6:The room was nice, I guess in the new part of the structure.

Review 7:The hotel is well located in the center of Uyuni. The staff is friendly. We appreciate the large, comfortable rooms with bathrooms with hot water at an altitude as that of Uyuni.

Review 8:There are maybe two or three young boys working at the front desk and they are extremely rude and disorganized. They tried to make us pay twice after saying they didn't mark us as paid. Breakfast was never ready and the heating and comfort of the rooms are a joke. For seventy dollars you can even do better at a motel 6 in the states. They are money grubbing. So find somewhere else

Review 9:There wasn't many nice things about this hotel. It's hard to write two hundred words. Perhaps the hot shower was nice but the cleanliness of the toilet and bathroom was a joke. Tv was broken and heater was non existent

Review 10:The staff entered our room without asking and tried to withdraw our only electric heater, which could at least keep the temperature at 9 degrees celsius (48F) at night. Suddenly the staffmember could not speak english anymore (as he did, when it came to paying 70 dollars per night). The breakfast room was even colder and the breakfast stuff didnt allow to turn on the gas heater before the beginning of the breakfast at 8 o'clock. Poor guests who tried to have breakfast at 0830, when the room has "heated" up (maybe 12 degrees) ... The staff had disappeared, no new dishes were brought, no more food was left, and the waste and dishes remained on the table until afternoon.. I've travelled to 80 countries so far, and never ever have felt that unwanted than at La Magica at Uyuni.

Review 11:The interior at the front desk had some kind of charme, but good things end here...

Review 12:My girlfriend and I were travelling with another couple and when we arrived we each got a room with four beds in it so it would have been nicer and cheaper to share one room instead of two

Review 13:Staff were really helpful. Breakfast was good. And the hotel was really comfortable

Review 14:A different young receptionist guy refused to provide any form of breakfast - not even a banana - for an early start the following morning. We asked in the evening, and he point blank refused.

Review 15:Warmth - heating, hot water, blankets, free hot drinks, some staff very accommodating. One young receptionist guy was really nice and gave us hot water and tea on arrival late at night.

Review 16:Freezing cold. Incredibly rude ,unhelpful staff. Staff were like teenagers and didn't care about customers. Horrible breakfast. Very bad Leaky taps in room. Wouldn't take visa card. Had to take money out of atm. No apologies. No manager around to speak to. No one spoke English.

Review 17:Location. Classic style. It was comfortable and clean

Review 18:poor cleanliness level. unpleasant odor with bedding. not worth the money.

Review 19:I reserve that was big comport room with living room . But they give us the room I reserve.

Review 20:Well positioned within walking distance to restaurants, tour operators and shops. Clean and comfortable.

Review 21:Good Bolivian breakfast

Review 22:During our stay nobody was cleaning the room.

Review 23:Location

Review 24:The accommodation was expensive compared to other B and Bs.

Review 25:OLd hotel, unwelcoming.

Review 26:Try to minimize the nights in Uyuni. It's not a welcoming city. The manager was ok and we got a very early breakfest

Review 27:It was very cold in the room. We asked for a change of the room, but the staff was very unkind

Review 28:No experienced staff, breaktfast starts at 8am, old furniture, first impression is shabby

Review 29:Centrally located

Review 30:At breakfast nobody is there to serve. NO room service

Review 31:I like the beds and the rooms

Review 32:On booking.com they promised 24/7 hot water, but there was only hot water from 6 to 12 pm!!!

Review 33:Location was Good.

Review 34:-good location -amazing staff -looks like one of the high end hostels there.

Review 35:Cleanliness was woefully inadequate- it looked like our room hadn't been cleaned prior to our stay. There were suspect little black curly hairs in the bathroom and the bedroom floor was absolutely filthy. We felt like we couldn't take our shoes off. Staff were extremely unfriendly and unhelpful, they appeared inconvenienced by our visit. Breakfast was average. We are used to Bolivian standards and weren't expecting the Hilton but the price paid it is debatable whether this was worth the heated room. Uyuni is not the most pleasant part of Bolivia.

Review 36:The sheets and towels were clean. The bed was comfortable (after an overnight bus trip though, any relatively soft surface is comfortable). The tv worked and had numerous cable channels. The wifi worked well in our room. The room was big and had nice (albeit dirty) old style lounge chairs. Thankfully the heating worked well! Location - easy waking distance to everything, though this isn't hard in the tiny, dusty hole that is Uyuni.

Review 37:The room was freezing and overall very bad heating in the hotel. Staff were not the friendliest. Breakfast was quite poor for the money that you are paying for the hotel.

Review 38:Good location and beautiful room. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot.

Review 39:- reception staff were very unfriendly, bored and dis-interested. - Of 7 lights in my room, only 3 were working. I mention this to reception staff but no action was taken. They were too busy being dis-interested. - Uyuni is a very cold town. The central heating in the hotel was not working. I had to request a separate heater. - room was very tired and dated and in need of a complete renovation. - room rates are way over prided for what is on offer. I complained and received a substantial discount. Better deals at other hotels.

Review 40:Not a good value for $70. In fact, one of the worst values in our 4 months of travel in Latin America. Breakfast was miserly, staff were invisible, shower doors were broken, common areas were freezing. It's not that it's a bad hotel, it just should cost $35-$40. Plenty of other accommodations not on booking.com for better value.

Review 41:Had heat, hot water and a good bed.

Review 42:We paid about € 50,- for one night. Looking at the state of the hostel and the lack of comfort I think it would be more then fair to only charge € 10,- per night and do not really understand why it is so very expensive, it is for sure not worth the money the charge....

Review 43:Location is city centre, staff was helpfull.

Review 44:Not a lot of options in Uyuni when we went, a lot of the places were booked out. So we had to stay here. It was pretty expensive for what it was.

Review 45:Warm comfy bed!

Review 46:Not worth the money. Beware! They charge you an additional 13% tax when you check out. You can get a hostal in Uyuni for 100bs that are offline

Review 47:standard was ok

Review 48:No hot water the night we arrived after being on 3 day trek through theAndes. Tried to have a hot shower the next morning again, still no hotwater, not even like warm. The basic things people need in a hotel is acomfortable bed, and a hot shower. Other than the shower everything elsewas great.

Review 49:Loved the decor in the room. Old colonial style feel to it. Breakfastwas pretty good, had enough choices. Bed was comfortable.

Review 50:Beautiful, colonial looking hotel in Central uyuni. We were arriving after the night bus from la paz, and wanted somewhere comfortable to base ourselves before we found a salt flats tour. The hotel is visually pleasing from the outside, and inside is just as lovely; entering through a well kept reception and seating area you are taking through an almost maze like warren of rooms. Downstairs are cheaper dorm rooms, upstairs are the double bedrooms with MASSIVE beds. The hotel is beautifully presented and kept spotlessly clean. The shower was a bit hit and miss; if you got the first shower of the day it was lovely and hot. Sadly, this didn't appear to be the case for the whole day with Luke warm to cold showers being the norm. The reception and cleaning staff were mostly friendly, and made an effort with my broken Spanish which is always appreciated. Wifi only worked in reception, however it was very comfortable and not such a bad thing!

Review 51:My room wasn't prepared when i checked in, I wated for more than 30minutes. one of lady at front desk was very errogant and never apologize for it. And she even didn't tell me her name. I'll definitely choose different hotel next time.

Review 52:wi-fi was available ,but sometimes dusconnected in a room and only could use at lobbly. some staff can speak English.

Review 53:Our toilet didn't flush properly, we couldn't open the window in our room, and one half of the mattress had sunk.

Review 54:The size of our room was very generous. The breakfasts were of a good quality. The communal areas such as the lounge in the lobby were very comfortable.

Review 55:Hotel could have been a bit cleaner. Dusty but then so is Uyuni.

Review 56:We used this for base to visit Salar de Uyuni. Location was great. Staff pleasant enough. Probably would have paid less for same standard but this was the best option for our needs booked last minute.

Review 57:breakfast was not hotel standard, it was less than hostal standard, staff were cooking eggs for themselves in the kitchen but there was no eggs for the guests, or any other cooked foods, just cereal cheese white bred no butter what kind of hotel does this ?????? advertised as english speaking but nobody spoke english. bar didnt open no restaurant in the evening, room service is an unknown term in this place no elevator they should advertise it for what it is, a hostal, and not a good one

Review 58:not much i have to say bed was ok

Review 59:Our windows did not close properly and there was lot of dust.

Review 60:The staff was excellent and very helpful and they speak English. We were not sure if this will be a right choice after reading couple of reviews, however we were very surprised. When we arrived, we asked to change our room and there was not any problem. They also booked taxi for us and prepare breakfast earlier.

Review 61:Breakfast wasn't served until 8am and we had to fly to La Pazleaving at 6.30am, so we paid for a breakfast that we could not have. This must apply to other hotel guests too if they are taking the earlymorning flight to Quito.

Review 62:Friendly staff. Nice little lounge area with furniture made from salt.

Review 63:The staff, ijnitally they did not have my booking and took me to another hotel, who were full. Then as I walked past the hotel they came out and told me they had my room. They literally saved my life! I also had pizza and a coke which they brought to me room for no extra charge. They looked after my luggage after I had checked out. I cannot thank the hotel enough.

Review 64:No hot water and no internet. Complained many times but they did not fix these issues. Staff does not know english and help you on these problems. I could not have breakfast because there was no seat. Even they did not help me on this issue. Service is terrible in this hotel.

Review 65:Location is good, hotel ambiance is nice.

Review 66:Staff were polite but lazy Rooms were very dusty Had a very slippy bathroom floor. Got very cold at night as balcony window did not shut properly

Review 67:Rooms were big and comfy Good location

Review 68:1st morning woken very early 5.30ish by 2 noisy tour groups having breakfast. When we got down for breakfast 8.30 no food, plates or cutlery. Had to go to reception twice to get reluctant service. Morning of leaving to get to airport for 7.15 requested taxi not ordered, and no one around to help. Had to run to square to find taxi

Review 69:The room was comfortable; almost a suite. Small restuarant in the hotel serving good pizzas.

Review 70:The price is a bit too high for bolivian standards (compared to price for value of other hotels where we stayed outside of Uyuni yet inside Bolivia)

Review 71:The location, own restaurant, helpfull personnel, nice rooms, nice bathroom with warm water

Review 72:The dollar-bolivian exchange rate was too high. Also the reception boy tried to fool us asking 100bs for taxi, 50 bolivians per person. Since we knew the real price we didn't agree for that and paid only 20 bs in all.

Review 73:The location was very close to our tour agency Red Planet office. It also has a pizzeria with tasty pizza.

Review 74:no light in bathroom, room was freezing. There was a heater that turned on for about ten mins a day n shower was never anything but totally freezing each time, had to leave room each day to warm up in sun. They let some random street busker into the breakfast room each morning which woke us up. Plus he stands there playing some mindless cobblers and gets in the way while you try and get some food then expects some money. Missing a trick here this bloke, even if u were mad enough to encourage this man to come back by paying him, who takes their wallet to breakfast? He left empty handed and my ears have now recovered. Oh yeah, forgot, my girlfriend had a permanent headache, this was either my fault or the fact the room stank of gas or fuel smells all the time, not sure this was just our room or everyone's.

Review 75:We got the deluxe room which was huge and very well furnished, staff were friendly

Review 76:The lady on reception (I believe she's the owner) couldn't havebeen less helpful. She obviously doesn't enjoy her job and it shows.Nobody in the hotel speaks a word of English or even tries to. The hotelstaff are hugely disorganised too. They assured us they would sort ataxi to the airport for us early in the morning on our departure day. Itnever came. And they did nothing to help beyond saying the driverwasn't answering his phone. I was suspicious when we requested it asthe owner was so rude and unhelpful. And we were proved right - andalmost missed our flight. Lastly, breakfast is served between 8:30 and9am, which seems very limited! All in all, nice hotel. Awful service.

Review 77:The newer rooms in the upper part of the hotel are nice. Cable tv,heaters, a hot shower and bright and airy. It's very cold in Uyuniso somewhere warm is important. The location was good too. Very central.

Review 78:It's ok for the rate you pay. Maybe rooms are a little bit cold and heating was not working at all

Review 79:Location is very good only 4 blocks from Uyuni train station Breakfast included plus complimentary wifi at lobby area

Review 80:Our room upstairs was spacious and nicely decorated. The first room I saw was on the first floor near the breakfast area and would have been freezing; I would ask for a room upstairs. The heat was great all night. Breakfast was OK, just a little food to put in your stomach before setting off for the day. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Review 81:Facilities are smelly (like furniture cleaning oli). Cold and heaters scarce and used only at certain times / areas. Helpfull staff, but wihour even low tourism standards. (They were not able to ask for a early morning taxi and suggesdted to wait outside for one at 6:30 AM and at 0° C temp.

Review 82:Location / Willingness to acceppt a reservation without a deposit

Review 83:Very cold "superior" bedroom because, on the first day, the hotel appeared to have run out of gas for the central heating and hot water. On the second evening the heating was low and ineffective, and in the morning there was still no hot water.

Review 84:Cental location.

Review 85:The room is very cold even with a portable heater provided. I believe it's because the wintows are not tightly closed, this allows draft to come in. Other than that, not much to complain about, consider it's in Uyuni, everything is basic.

Review 86:Heating wasn't switched on until the evening and it was pretty cold.

Review 87:The showers were hot - much needed after our Salar de Uyuni trip.Breakfast pretty good.

Review 88:They didn't have any upstairs rooms available for our second stay. The rooms on the first floor are shabbier and one bed even broke when we got into it. It took us 2 hours to arrange for a hot shower. And they wanted to charge us only five dollars less for the downstairs room than the upstairs and far superior rooms. When we checked out, we were able to negotiate a reduced price, but they made it very difficult.

Review 89:Good location in Uyuni. Our first stay was quite comfortable in an upstairs room. Our second stay was in an old room downstairs and was much less comfortable,

Review 90:The owner a little grumpy, but we knew it already from the previous reviews. The hotel is overpriced but this is normal in Uyuni, the price you have to pay to get to the beautiful salt flats.

Review 91:The building was pretty interesting, the room was clean, however it had a strong smell of the floor polish. Cable tv and the wifi were working.

Review 92:Cold , no heating which was advertised and generally very poor. Cannothonestly recommend it however it may be a case that it is Hobsonschoice. Living on that.

Review 93:Nothing

Review 94:Staff were sullen at best, playing video games all day. Had to ask for toilet paper. Had to ask for hot water AFTER getting into shower. Had to ask for room heat as temps reached near freezing. Breakfast ran out before we got to the table. Room was full of dust. Only two light bulbs were working out of eight.

Review 95:it is in Uyuni

Review 96:We had to ask for toilet paper, we had to ask for the hotwater to beturned on after getting in the shower, we had to ask for room heat atnightfall when the temps dropped to zero, and only one of 8 light bulbsworked. The staff were particularly sullen spending most time playingvideo games.

Review 97:Must admit we liked leaving

Review 98:We stayed here before our salt flats tour as we wanted somewhere a bitnicer before roughing it on the tour. We booked a room which said itincluded balcony, bath, and heating. Sadly, the room we were put in didnot fit this description, and additionally had a broken shower door. Thecost had been listed at us60 a night however we didn't think it wasfair to pay this as we hadn't received what we'd booked. Atcheck out we explained these shortcomings to the manager (although therewas a considerable language barrier) and consequently we were blaimedfor the shower door, and met with very little understanding of thesituation. Our advice would be to ensure you get what you have paid foras soon as you check in - or better yet, walk around town onceyou've arrived, you'll find many affordable, basic rooms thatwill suit your needs.

Review 99:Very luxurious bed and good location.

Review 100:Very expensive and you did not get what was listed in the bookin. When we discussed this with the owner and asked for a discount he did not want to help us or offer a discount,m

Review 101:Breakfast

Review 102:Breakfast was in a cold room and was mediocre eg cold toast, very sweet cheap juice. The staff were very young, none spoke any English And there was often no one at the desk (it was the weekend). They seemed poorly equipped to manage a hotel. I noted a difference on Monday morning when the boss arrived.

Review 103:The room was light and bright. The bed was very comfortable it was clean and had interesting central areas eg armchairs made of salt and many old artefacts eg typewriter, guns etc.

Review 104:Our guide arranged for us to have a breakfast tray delivered to our doorfor our 6am start. It didn't arrive and the guy on reception deniedever knowing about it. Spoilt an otherwise ok hotel.

Review 105:Location was good. We had just finished a three day trip in Bolivia andthis was probably one of the best places available. Not luxury, butclean & tidy.

Review 106:The hotel is very clean and comfortable after being on the dusty streets of Uyuni. We stayed there before and after our three day trip to the Salt Flats and National Park. The hotel was happy to store our bags, laptop until we returned from the tour. The hotel is only two or three minutes walk from the main square where the restaurants are located. A good choice of hotel for a town such as Uyuni and those on a mid budget.

Review 107:Only accepted cash. Was more expensive than other hotels I'vestayed at in Bolivia and I got a lot more (eg breakfast included,tea/coffee facilities etc). Tv and wifi stopped working atabout 9pm.

Review 108:Rooms were clean and adequate. Tv and wifi a plus.

Review 109:The room looked like it had never been vacuumed, the lobby ashtray was overflowing and the breakfast was pretty meager.

Review 110:We arrived late but they had our reservation and check in was fast. Plenty of hot water.

Review 111:The hotel is over it's heydays. The room wasn't cleaned duringour stay. They only made the beds and even threw or towels to the floor, without changing them.

Review 112:Staff useless, couldn't pay by card but they also didn't have change so had to go get the exact amount from a shop

Review 113:Nice room, good location

Review 114:Clean and comfortable

Review 115:Lobby wan nice but our room was not clean with dust, Bed sheets were worn Low quality of service comparing to the price

Review 116:Location was not so bad

Review 117:We were there in January so we did not find the room to be that cold, we were provided with a heater. Nice room! Wifi worked fine.

Review 118:No heating in room

Review 119:Too expensive compared to all the other hotels in Uyuni.

Review 120:Stored our bags in the hotel waiting for an evening bus.

Review 121:Useless staff. Uncleared rooms. Advertised facilities that did not exist. Very overpriced.

Review 122:Location only.

Review 123:Staff spoke no English.

Review 124:The pillows

Review 125:Slow Wi-Fi, but that seemed to be the case everywhere we went in Bolivia.

Review 126:Large warm room, some of the staff were helpful.

Review 127:No elevator 3rd. Floor - and city is more than13,000 f. of altitutde - and I'm 61

Review 128:Nice rooms, big beds, great hot water, good location, good breakfast

Review 129:- The staff was not very welcoming - Our room was just beside the kitchen which was noisy

Review 130:- Big and nice rooms
