Reviews for Horseshoe Resort
Review 1:Had many problems the second I arrived. Front desk staff was very slow and not very efficient at dealing with check in issue, television did not work and no answer at front desk, and the fan in my room was very loud and ran constantly. Overpriced rooms as far as I'm concerned...
Review 2:Ski hill was decent
Review 3:I booked a room with a king bed, they gave me a room with two queens because that's what I had apparently booked. I paid quite a bit since I went on labour day weekend and booked last minute. Quite a bit of kids also
Review 4:Facilities are up to date, bathrooms are great, sunken area with fireplace is awesome. Amenities include 3 different pools, gym, sauna, squash court, common areas and more, Plenty of space to hike and mountain bike. Lots of other activities are also available but they can be a little pricier.
Review 5:I was kinda disappointed in the fact that there was nothing open after 5 pm except for the bar/restaurant. Especially with a main event of the warrior dash.
Review 6:Nice facility but a little pricy for time of season.
Review 7:I didn't luke that the outdoor pool wasn't open yet (middle of June) I also didn't like how they charge a daily resort fee... Just increase the nightly rate rather than make you feel you got a good deal! Stayed in a lovely room with sunken sitting area with fireplace.... Would have been nicer if this area had a TV as well, rather than having to watch it while in bed.
Review 8:Clean rooms which were newly renovated. Lots of outdoor activities available.
Review 9:TV, Did not get us a King bed as requested, did not offer free breakfast, charged for resort fee even when not used or needed.
Review 10:Bed, pillows, shower, location.
Review 11:Everything was good. I just found the lower level of our suite sparsely furnished and not very cosy but it was nice to have the extra space. A line in the bathroom to hang up bathing suits would be useful.
Review 12:The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the pool was great. Real coffee cups instead of paper cups would have been nice. A microwave would have been good too but we did get our meal microwaved at the main desk which was very good of them. Beautiful bathroom but we mostly showered after swimming so didn't use the lovely tub and shower much.
Review 13:Parking isn't really clearly delineated, i.e. unsure if where we parked was safe for overnight and had to check with hotel.
Review 14:Accessibility to the ski hill, ability to get a baby cot for our 5 month old,and buffet breakfast had a good selection.
Review 15:We ordered the King room, but we got 2 Queen beds room.
Review 16:I really like this place. The room was very clean (especially the washroom). The washroom was very new.
Review 17:Poor facilities. Everything extra, constantly feel you are being ripped off. Resort fee is a joke, got nothing for it, 25 dollars per person per day. Restaurant onsite closed due to frozen pipe which is understandable but there was no compensation for guests, and little apology. We paid 50dollars resort fee and still had to go out in cold to get to bar for dinner. The ski slope is just a hill.
Review 18:Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had to cut it short and staff were able to accommodate us. The resort is at the foot of the hills and access to activities was great. Room could easily accommodate a family of four.
Review 19:We were in a unit with an adjoining door to next room - there was an excessive amount of noise that transmitted through that door
Review 20:Room with view magnificent
Review 21:The air conditioner compressor was so loud that every time it came on during the night it woke me up. We were planning on enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the buffet but when we came downstairs there was a line up to get in and the restaurant was extremely noisy - not very conducive to conversation.
Review 22:Bed was very comfortable. 2 level suite was spacious and well appointed Bathroom was well appointed and equipped
Review 23:Restaurant prices in the resort a bit expensive.
Review 24:The rooms were spacious, clean, staff very helpful and courteous. There are many activities on site-My son and daughter-in-law are considering coming back with the grandchildren.
Review 25:Food at crazy horse was awful, except for burger. Burger was great. Chicken Caesar salad was absolutely tasteless. Breakfast buffet was tasteless. Didn't think $15 could be a bad deal, but it turned out to be.
Review 26:Food at their restaurant, Crazy Horse, was not great. Service at the restaurant was good though. Every hotel room should have a microwave for popcorn. It makes rooms more family friendly.
Review 27:Nice location with easy access to Barrie, Orillia and local markets. Lots of activities on site.
Review 28:Renovation of 1 pool facilities and closure of the other pool was being done in July.,.one of the busiest months I'm sure. Restaurant options could be expanded a bit to offer more casual dining.
Review 29:Rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Adventure park offers great options forall age groups.
Review 30:Asked at the front desk about the mountain biking they told us where to go and to wait as it opens at 10am. Someone arrived half hour later and told us that the bikes were not running this weekend and that it was apparently posted on the website. The staff at front desk was not even aware of this. Waited at the bike station for half hour only to find out that the bikes were not running this weekend dissapointed at that.
Review 31:our room felt musty (the air) rm 125 each time we came in from the hall. My husband did not realize 3 bottles of water cost 3. each. A glass would've sufficed. A bit steep after paying for 3 breakfast.
Review 32:breakfast was good....chosen over....we did get an extra of bacon added which was delicious...thank you
Review 33:The in-room coffee was not drinkable. Perhaps it needed cleaning. Went through third party and unexpected billing needed to be corrected. The room I got was not the one that was selected on line.
Review 34:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was well organized and clean. The pool facilities were amazing.
Review 35:No close access to affordable fast food. A few bugs in room, though that would be impossible to prevent.
Review 36:Great room, bed, pillows, bathroom, cleanliness. Staff friendly. Easy in and out.
Review 37:Horrible bed and pillows, did not sleep. Horrible food in hotel one of us got food poisoning

Review 45:Check in time is quite late.
Review 46:Room was good
Review 47:Food wasn't the best. Expensive for what you got.
Review 48:staff were amazing!
Review 49:Pull out couch mattress needs replacing. Felt every spring and at times could feel springs give way.
Review 50:Bathroom had no exhaust fan Visit too short
Review 51:Staff very friendly. Good service. Enjoy my staff. Relaxing and fun.
Review 52:Staff was very rude
Review 53:Nice location
Review 54:The TV did not have a guide.
Review 55:My bill at checkout was more than my confirmation email told me it was. Very disappointed getting a bigger $ surprise Bill at the end of a nice stay.
Review 56:Beautiful facilities, fun for whole family, great staff
Review 57:Affordable food is nowhere to be found close by. The food onsite was average, not worth the price.
Review 58:The room was great, clean, comfortable beds.
Review 59:Lengthy drive to anywhere
Review 60:Beautifull scenery
Review 61:Beds were small for two people .. Not the right room. Would never pay that price again.
Review 62:Carpets in the hallways need updating.
Review 63:Staff was friendly. Location is great. Rooms are fantastic and updated.
Review 64:Rooms are a little dated
Review 65:Resort offers much more than hotel anood golf

Review 68:Activities facilities Services, Staff
Review 69:Rooms, service, breakfast, view, location! We'll be back with the kids for adventure park time next year.
Review 70:Pillows Queen Beds seemed like a double
Review 71:Highlands golf course Size of room Size of bathroom Shower Tub Staff everywhere Activities
Review 72:The pillows
Review 73:Activities
Review 74:need friendlier staff should wash ALL bedding after each guest, not just sheets. That made my visit very uncomfortable.
Review 75:amenities & activities
Review 76:Treated us like using booking.com was a good thing.
Review 77:No bathtub in the room
Review 78:Food in main restaurant was great overall I Thoroughly enjoyed my stay
Review 79:Room and breakfast was good
Review 80:No outdoor pools were open as advertised on website. Could not sit outside anywhere except a very small patio at the Crazy horse, very little shade. Desperately wanted a pool tosit around and lounge. There was no information available to explain activities available nor a map to go for a walk. Did not know where we could walk as golf course and Segway people were around. Needed info in the room to help us make informed decisions of what to do.
Review 81:Staff were great! Sometimes not well informed but nevertheless very helpful! Room was very nice but stuffy!
Review 82:I didn't like that they tried to charge me more for the room as well as more for my small dog than what I was quoted. They did honour my printout but said I was lucky that I brought it
Review 83:Room was very spacious and comfortable.
Review 84:They didn't have my reservation! Fortunately I'd brought a copy of the Booking.com confirmation and they had one room left. Also, they tack on a $15 + tax fee called the RAF - Resort Amenity Fee, supposedly to cover internet, use of pool etc. This wasn't mentioned on the booking.com site or explained when we checked in.
Review 85:Room was clean & well appointed
Review 86:Outdoor pool was closed but never saw that it was when I was booking.
Review 87:Service was great. Rooms were renovated. LOVED the food and the fun tree top trekking!
Review 88:Quite limited n dining choice. We're visiting in off season, so difficult to rate this place. Certainly quiet and comfortable.
Review 89:The staff where very friendly and helpful. The location is quite good. Looking forward to a visit during ski season. Would be ideal for golf or family adventure week. we had to drive down the road to the next golf course to have a supper, since dinning room was closed Sunday and Monday. There was a bar and grill across the lodge, but we felt a little bit rustic.Nice relaxing session at the Spa.
Review 90:You need to have bath mats. I did the tree trekking and zip lining however I found the other activities such as the hummer ride, etc was too expensive. There should also be more selection for food. I did not like that even though I booked through booking.com when I went to check out my bill was incorrect and was being charged much more until I questioned it.
Review 91:The room was nice and the beds and pillows were very comfy. Loved the shower and tub. The people were friendly and helpful.
Review 92:A little disappointed that I was not informed when making my reservation that the pool was closed for renovation. Thank you for the $15.00 rebate
Review 93:The room was excellent
Review 94:the pool, hottub, and sauna was down so we could not use it the menu at the silks dining room was not appealing to us the breakfast there was just "ok" the hotel was over priced for the time of year,
Review 95:Although the ski season was over we hoped to go and use the other amenities at the resort. It was a two hour drive with kids and after we checked in we found out that the pool, hot tub and gym were closed for renos. Since there was absolutely nothing to do we tried to do a spa but it was booked solid and was being demo'd at the end of the day as well. Th website should have clearly stated that the amenities were not as shown as the fuel to get there and the actual hotel were of little value.
Review 96:Wifi very poor. Our first impression upon walking in to the resort was bad. No place to park as it seemed that with the special weekend event, people not staying at the resort were parked in resort parking. We arrived on a Sunday and we understood not being allowed to check-in early at 3:00pm, but we couldnt check in until around 6:00pm. Their excuse was that they had allowed late checkouts to those who stayed overnight on Saturday and they hadn't yet checked out. Come on. That's a terrible excuse. Terrible planning on managements part to allow for late checkouts when hotel is fully booked for March break. Charge them not one night but 2 nights penalty to deter themfrom doing this
Review 97:Breakfast was good.
Review 98:No room service for breakfast, not even a breakfast menu in the restaurant. Only buffet for $14.00 a person. My husband and I don't eat $14.00 worth of food!
Review 99:Loved our room, very clean and nicely decorated, including the bathroom. Staff was terrific. Food was good at Crazy Horse.
Review 100:Odd complaint, but bed may have been too soft. nothing really
Review 101:Really enjoyed the lounge, live music available. ski hill just outside your door. our room newly renovated modern.
Review 102:-Not too much things to do for kids, actually nothing except the pool. -Lower level of the room is a bit cold - kids couldn't sleep there. -Breakfast too expensive.
Review 103:-Close to slopes. -Big rooms. -Updated bathroom with huge bath. -Nice and clean.
Review 104:Liked it all! Exceeded my expectations!
Review 105:Nice skiing getaway with family, excellent value with booking and cannot say enough about the positive, friendly staff!
Review 106:The hotel was very loud. I am not sure if there is any solution to this for the staff but between people partying in their rooms until after 2:30am and children who were literally running up and down the halls screaming and yelling before 7am I was very disappointed. Maybe the hotel staff needs to be checking the halls every so often to monitor this. Its pretty sad to say, but sometimes common sense to is not so common to everyone.
Review 107:I stayed in the main hotel and the rooms were really nice. The staff were friendly although they "welcomed" you by trying to get you to attend a timeshare seminar the second you walk in the door.
Review 108:We did not get the room we wanted. Old luggage cart was in the lobby and of course we used it. Lol. That cart should be removed from the hotel. It is not safe!!
Review 109:All the staff were very friendly and help full. The room was updated and clean. I we will be back!
Review 110:Staff was unwilling to accommodate when coffee machine was empty! We asked two times and staff were annoyed and even adamant that "it was brewing" when in fact they had stopped making the coffee . You advertise complimentary coffee till 11 am yet at 10:30 you no longer wish to fill the urn. Had someone bothered to help when we asked for coffee I would not have been annoyed. But the stubbornness and unwillingness to help or simply find out why 25 minutes later there was still no coffee- that left a really bad impression. I'm still waiting for an apology.
Review 111:This review should remain anonymous please
Review 112:The price of meals. It would be nice to have a light menu includingpopular items I.E. chicken fingers, spaghetti, etc. that are reasonablypriced. The breakfast also very expensive. My son and I ended upspending almost the same amount on food as we did for the room for 2nights. I would think twice about returning due to the expense of food.
Review 113:Great skiing and very nice, clean, comfortable room. Friendly andhelpful staff.
Review 114:Booking with Booking.com was not a good idea. We booked a Loft Room, but only got a regular room!!!! NOT impressed! And when we asked, it was because we booked with a third party....so I'll never do that again!........other things include, Not getting supplies we asked for. Loft room, a cot, a coffee maker, and there was no list of events anywhere posted, so we missed out on New Years fireworks.
Review 115:I liked the atmosphere and the activities to choose from.
Review 116:Excellent experience while at the resort. The staff was friendly and easy to deal with. The room was much larger than we anticipated, had a lower level with seating and a fire place.great experience.
Review 117:The pillows! They are far to big and stiff to sleep on. After the first night my husband woke up the next morning with such a stiff neck that I had to do the driving for the next few days because he couldn't turn his head. We requested smaller ones and the staff tried to accommodate but even the new ones were huge. We finally ended up folding up blankets we found in the closet and sleeping on those.
Review 118:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful at all times and the whole resort was kept very clean. We avoided the buffet breakfast for the first two days because of the price, but decided to splurge on day three. It was very good and we regretted not eating there the first two days.
Review 119:The outdoor pool was closed, which wasn't mentioned when I made thereservation. The shower had dispensers for conditioner and shampoo, butthe conditioner was empty. It seemed like they should have checkedthat.... I had reserved a room with a King size bed, but was given twoQueens and told no King rooms were available. The vending machines weresold out of nearly every option. There isn't much nearby. We had todrive 20 minutes into Barrie just to get snacks and beverages.
Review 120:The shower was wonderful. The beds were comfortable. The room was clean. The gentleman who served me at check-in was friendly, helpful andsmiling, even though it was very busy and he was dealing with manypeople at once. The Adventure Park was fun, and the all-day rate veryreasonable.
Review 121:It was all good.
Review 122:The soaker tub was amazing, as was the shower. The room was spacious and quiet and very nicely furnished. Staff was very helpful. Would love to stay here again.
Review 123:No coffee/tea making appliance in room Couldn't cool the room quite enough for personal preference No bath tub Restaurant prices a bit more than I budgeted for
Review 124:Mattress and pillows extremely comfortable Peaceful and quiet Spotlessly clean Rustic blended with ultra modern Fridge in room Relatively quiet air conditioning Quick check in Amazing shower head Softened water Staff were very obliging in find me a coffee maker despite dealing with a bit of an emergency Food quality really good
Review 125:the staff was not help full and charged me more the was quoted on booking.com and did not offer a refund and all the outside activities were not open until saturday
Review 126:the food was great
Review 127:The fact that the resort was under construction when we were there and we were in informed of that when we booked. The rooms, hallways, were dusty and the air conditioner was not working 100 percent.
Review 128:The area and facilities available
Review 129:Restaurants limited in selection; too pricey for better food when withkids who are picky eaters; Crazy Horse not good food for adults withmore discerning tastes while balancing kids' menu
Review 130:Convenient proximity to activities fair pricing for activitiesand lodging
Review 131:The pool was closed when we arrived friday night but they did promptly re-open it saturday morning.
Review 132:Everybody was very nice and allowed us to keep to ourselves most of the weekend. we did recieve a noise complaint but they were very polite about it & I didnt realize the music was so loud
